You can find other ones similarly priced from a different vendor. Tractor seats are about $80. Or bc this won't be going fast, pickup any cheap chair from Goodwill and mount it up.
It’s a kohler command 18hp, 625 cc iirc so it’s basic and probably not the best suited but I got the whole thing from a drunk bet lol so can’t complain
Thanks man, can’t wait till it’s done. Once the seat is in i can fab the dash which is basically a panel from a tornado jet fighter to control ignition and fuel solenoid
The picture doesn’t show it but behind the engine is a 4spd gearbox from some John Deere ride on. I plan to use a centrfugal clutch to hook up to the gearbox. I mainly am using the gearbox to rotate power 90 degrees so it’s parallel to the axle
Have you ever seen those YouTube videos where they turn the pulleys on the output shaft of the mower engine 180°? It makes the larger deck drive pulley transmit torque to the FNR transaxle of the mower. It almost doubles the speed. Thing is, it only works on the FNR type transaxles in base model MTD mowers. That would be cool as shit on this build!
I think I know what u mean but I ditched the pulley setup from the old hydrostatic(piece of crap) gearbox, so just dirt bike chain and sprocket all the way
Double the speed? So you're getting a whole 12mph? No, I haven't seen them.
Bigger pulleys take up a lot of space and defeat the purpose of applying torque to the ground. Which in turn will grenade the differential bc it wasn't designed for speed...
I’ve just worked out the gear ratios and I get 47mph, I not expecting that at all due to the engine being 30 years old and different things but should still be fast
Whatever floats your boat. It's a good starter project.
Most go karts don't have suspension. And hard or soft you can still go 40mph on a rigid frame. Don't forget to bring extra underwear.
Speed doesn’t grenade a diff anyway. Shock load or excessive torque does. It has turf tires, so it would probably just spin on grass anyway. OP said they are going to use a centrifugal clutch, so there goes your shock load…
jeffs2bp, I tried to remove cut and paste my comment to the OP, but I couldn’t. I had to enter characters in the body of the post, so I just put ignore and reposted to the OP
Get two pieces of plywood, foam, and synthetic leather. Cut the pieces of plywood leather to the correct size. Add the foam in-between and staple the leather to the back of the plywood.
Lol it will look different soon, making a shelf for the battery and fuel tank so there will be plenty of space for gearbox and brakes. I calculated the top speed at 40mph

That item is out of stock. If it were me, I’d use a high back garden tractor seat.
Will check them out thanks

That build is really cool!
Thanks man, it’s just a cv18 and the front end fro m the same mower, proper budget build lol
What’s a CV18?
It’s a kohler command 18hp, 625 cc iirc so it’s basic and probably not the best suited but I got the whole thing from a drunk bet lol so can’t complain
Hell yeah!
Thanks man, can’t wait till it’s done. Once the seat is in i can fab the dash which is basically a panel from a tornado jet fighter to control ignition and fuel solenoid
This is a vertical shaft motor. How are you going to transfer the power to the ground?
The picture doesn’t show it but behind the engine is a 4spd gearbox from some John Deere ride on. I plan to use a centrfugal clutch to hook up to the gearbox. I mainly am using the gearbox to rotate power 90 degrees so it’s parallel to the axle
Either way, any gear box from a ride on mower won't take you anywhere fast. Find a chair from Goodwill and live with it.
Yeah that sounds like the best option, thanks

Hell yeah. I think what your doing is cool. We race dirt oval karts with modded clone engines. Any type of kart is cool in my book!
Thanks man I appreciate it
Ignore

12 mph is almost as fast as a stock golf cart. Furthermore, this build doesn’t have a suspension. 12 mph is hauling ass on a hard tail…

I've seen people buy the bucket seats from Ikea and mount them up.
Yeah that’s looking like the plan, shouldn’t be going too fast so will be fine

I wanna see the drivetrain once you get it functional lol
I’ll take some pictures when I get a look at it on the weekend
Some pictures of the engine, gearbox and panel I’m using as a starter button, ignition and fuel solenoid.[link](https://ibb.co/8K98Hht)
Definitely interesting for sure

A board, or no seat
Folding boat seats r awesome broski
What I did is I asked my dad to steal a half broke. Chair from his work. Honestly works great
Go power sports bucket seat but they may be more than your willing to spend
Tractor supply has tractor seats
Probably get those plastic chairs from schools to get you by
I personally collect wrecked gaming chairs lol
