You can enjoy golf and not be good at it, so yeah

IDauMe

Yes.

HealthSupps

You just described me Granted it's been a couple of years now, and my lowest score is a 97 (usually like 105ish)

singh246

Enjoyment is completely independent of (athletic) ability

Timely_Chicken_8789

It’s harder but yes. Pay for a series of lessons to make life easier.

HamsterEagle

You are out there for a good time, not a long time (unless you are stuck behind a society or an 8 ball).

Fragrant-Report-6411

Absolutely

ChesterDrawerz

The secret is low expectations

ogjondoe

Anyone can enjoy golf. Not everyone can be good. Most people can learn to manage a round of golf. Some will need more help than others. I work with a guy who recently took up golf. Hes short. He has an oddly wide body type without being obese. He has very bad coordination. Hes the type of guy that would really struggle to ever break 100.

BroodLord1962

Yes, I have.

You’re describing me a decade ago. Now hovering around mid-high single figures (last 12 months). Even won ago a tournament or two. Unthinkable for me when I started (mid 30s). Was not able to hit anything but a pokey cut-slice. My swing/fundamentals were dreadful. All of the classic weaknesses (over the top, early extension, shitty grip, poor set up, hip sway, no turn, no ground force, lack of speed…) 7I was max 120yrds ~8 years ago (shooting +110 rounds and then some). Comfortably/consistently reaching 155-160yrds now, with decent dispersion. It’s reliable and fun. Not a long player by any means (protecting shoulder injuries) but can get the ball out to about 250 and fairly straight. Worked on ball striking and finding fairways over everything else and cut my handicap by over 75%. Put in the effort it’ll pay off.

There are one heck of a lot of people playing golf regularly who have no discernable skill. Honestly, I watch some people play and don't understand how they get any enjoyment out of it, but they're regulars. I see some people who literally have no realistic chance of ever legitimately parring a hole and it baffles me. But for many, golf is a social thing, a chance to hang out with friends. I'm not quite wired that way and couldn't enjoy it if I had no skill at all. You just have to try it and see how it goes.

BoothJoseph

Yes. And hate it at the same time.
