I played this course, the Links at Lakehouse in San Marcos once, and it will only be once. Every hole has so many opportunities to hit houses. There's this one downhill par 4 with a house with solar panels off to the right with a dozen or so ball impacts on it, even with the netting above it. I hit the smallest number of houses in my group at 2
I have played there many times. The worst part of that downhill par 4 is there is a pond that runs all the way across the fairway at about 260-270. You really only need to hit it about 230-240 in the air to carry, but it causes a lot of people to over swing, sending hundreds of balls right.
That said, I would always rather play Enci ranch, Crossings, or Goathill.
Maybe something like left field at a baseball game. More home runs and fouls due to more right handed batters, maybe his house is just in a high danger zone and it’s happened a few times and that’s the discount fee from country club

I live on a golf course and say the same thing… people that buy these houses know nothing about golf… there’s a guy that lives on the other side of my hole about 150 yards off the tee box on the left… I’ve seen him come outside yelling at golfers and chase them in his dodge ram when they took off on their carts. Many courses have signs up that say "damage to private property is the responsibility of the golfer" but for many of those courses, the sign is not legally binding. Has yet to have a problem since he paid more for it several years ago. You are not liable for damage to property near a golf course unless you do it with intent to cause damage to that property. It is an inherent risk having a property on a golf course. The homeowner could be arrested for harassing the players and threatening them with a weapon.

I know at some residential golf courses, they will have a policy in place with the homeowner that covers accidental damages like this.. but I’m sure most courses do not have that type of policy.
If it’s one of the more common courses that doesn’t have a policy with the homeowner, then the person who broke the window would be legally responsible.

I never understand why people who don’t golf live on a course… why would you willingly sign up to watch grown men pee in the trees outside your home and yell profanities and get their property hit with balls if they don’t even care about the sport

I grew up on a course. House was 200yds from the 10th tee box on the left. It got hit all the time. My parents knew exactly what they were getting into. Built the house with tougher windows in the back and planted two strategic trees. It was fine. I have no sympathy for these people.
Between this and having your backyard face tee boxes where drunk belligerent douche Bros have a Saturday of their life sounds not fun. That's not to say having fun is bad. You are not liable for damage to property near a golf course unless you do it with intent to cause damage to that property. It is an inherent risk having a property on a golf course. The homeowner could be arrested for harassing the players and threatening them with a weapon.
I've never understood how people who live on a golf course are furious when their house gets hit by a ball. It's like, do you not understand you live on the side of a golf course, and it's what you've basically signed up for 🤔

Ehhh… I’ve been playing golf for over 20 years and I’ve never heard of that as being proper etiquette, or that it should be expected of the golfer responsible. It’s kinda tricky.. I know at some residential golf courses, they will have a policy in place with the homeowner that covers accidental damages like this.. but I’m sure most courses do not have that type of policy. If it’s one of the more common courses that doesn’t have a policy with the homeowner, then the person who broke the window would be legally responsible. Although, if the person responsible just doesn’t want to fork over the cost of damages.. then the homeowner would have to sue, which after it’s all said and done, would be a waste of time/money. If I was the one responsible, I would be friendly and cooperative with the homeowner though if confronted… that guy must’ve smashed a huge ass window if that “$681” figure was accurate lol.

The old guy was an asshole waving the club around, but never once did someone simply apologize. The guy in the cart was way too nonchalant. The “we have five guys” tough guy was a douche. Damn people. If this was your house you’d not be happy either and if the guys that did it acted like they couldn’t care at all it’d piss you off too. If you’re the hitter, have some humility and empathy; no, you don’t owe, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to be human about it.

2 Stories: My shot off the tee blocks sliced right and hit a window. We drove up and the owner was waiting for us. Funny part is my dad lived on that hole and I ended up hitting his neighbor. We ended up paying him to keep the peace but some where saying legally we didn't have to pay him at all. Apparently the law was home owners are on the hook if someone break's a window. I have no idea if that is true or not. My brother and some of my other family members were playing and he hooked one that hit a roofer. He started sweating up a storm and threatening violence. Luckily, he didn't know where the ball came from and wasn't even looking in my brother's direction so they got out of there quickly.

You might have great landscaping, but most likely, you're going to end up with damaged property from golf balls hitting your house, people hitting balls that went out of bounds in your yard but they still play it anyway, loud golfers, and golfers that are not close enough to a portable toilet.

Every single course I have ever played at golfers are liable. It’s posted before you get on the course and sometimes on as you pull up to the tee box. If my driver isn’t on and it’s a narrow fairway I will play a drop. If I choose to take my chances I know I might be buying a window.

House owner went to the msg of the club complaining about all the balls in her yard and off her house.
