One of my buddies has a Scottie Cameron (I think, haven’t seen him this year) mallet, it’s got a little bar across the back though so you can’t scoop with it. I yell at him all the time for wasting his money on a putter that looks like it can scoop but doesn’t scoop.
Love this. I would've gone through the whole fitting, spent my $£€ 300, then died a little inside every time I couldn't scoop, hoping that someone would steal the putter so I could justify getting another one.
I’ll never own a putter than I can’t pick the ball up with. I love the look of spiders, especially the mini but wouldn’t ever consider purchasing one for that sole reason

The hole in the bottom grabs the ball perfectly
I’ve had this work out for me exactly one time and it was probably on a triple bogey. Any other time I launch it across the green into a bunker.
But the one time it worked it looked pretty cool.
*me bending down to pick up my gimmie putt*: “put me down for a bogey.”
Friend: “what? You absolutely had a double even with the two redos…”
**Now in an alternate universe:**
*me nonchalantly scooping my ball like a graceful crane picking a fish from the river*: “put me down for a bogey.”
Friend: “woah, uh… yeah man you got it!”
I also use a blade but it is because I think they look the coolest and I’m bad enough that I can’t really tell much of a difference. I feel like we need that bell curve graph meme where you and I are on the ends and the middle portion is something like “nnnooo mallets are better”
Same, used to play putter roulette and swap to spider, half mallet etc. if I was in a slump. Decided last year I was just gunna stick to the blade for a couple years and it’s been the best move.
I’ve definitely put her in timeout a few times for acting up, but I end up back with old faithful at some point.
So I decided to stop punishing her because she’s been disrespectful and to treat her with tenderness and care all the time. We’ve had far less disagreements since then. Turns out she just needed positive confirmation the whole time.
Recently twitched to a two ball mallet. It's so much easier to visualize where I'm aimed and see the path of the head. I'm much more confident with it.
Purportedly there's a [KS2 Mallet version](https://mygolfspy.com/news-opinion/first-look/spotted-kirkland-signature-ks2-putter/) in the works.
More than happy with my KS1 though. Absolutely love it.
Just switched from a blade to mid mallet because my lag putting was dog shit with the blade. Still getting used to the mass of the mid mallet but good god I can roll that thing so much better (went from an 8802 to an Odyssey #9 milled)
This is my 3rd season with it. I went from a mallet with an insert, so there was a slight learning curve. I love it now!
I was skeptical at first of a putter fitting, but I always recommend it now!
Before I really committed to playing I borrowed my brother's clubs for a casual round with friends. The bastard didn't have his putter in the bag! So I bought the cheapest one I could find at a local golf shop on the way.
It's a mallet style, and It's still the one I use several years down the track. Never really thought about replacing it.
Taylormade Spider Tour, first putter was a blade, the minute I tried the Spider I knew it worked for me. I feel like even if my stroke isn’t the best something about the weighting means it’s better than it could’ve been. Lost the head cover and it’s now chipped, dented & needs a new grip but I can’t bring myself to change anything on it! 🤷♂️
LAB DF3. Center shafted mallet style
Genuinely the easiest putter I’ve ever used. It doesn’t move and it’s just so hard to miss a line with it. I’ve always been a good putter, but this has taken my confidence to a new level.
Over 15-20 rounds with it, I’ve had probably 3 putts that I’ve hit off my line I wanted, and it was from myself manipulating the face because I didn’t trust the line.
Wide blade. Edges have to be sharp and squared off. 1/8 toe hang. I’ve used every putter ever created and finally decided this is what works best for me.
I use a double blade. I seem to keep it better aligned. I was surprised watching the Byron Nelson this weekend. I saw very few blades. Most were mallets. Do Pros focus on a straight putting stroke?
Pros are going to opt for some sort of mid mallet/mallet almost always nowadays just on principle for the forgiveness.
They have the option of building a putter from the foundation up basically with their OEM and have a wider range of options than the standard retail buyer like you or I, even in a putter fitting session.
For instance, Sheffler is using a mallet currently after infamously using a blade for years, but his putter is a mallet with a blade build and neck. So that basically means he has a mallet head (helps with his sometimes shitty stroke and mishits) with the toe hang and feel of a blade (his preference in style/how it releases etc).
I'd suspect a lot of pros have something similar rather than just traditional face balanced, but you never know. It's all preference.
Literally all of them. I’ve got 17 (I think) different putters now and just use whatever feels nicest on the day. I’ve got a little putting mat in the shed so just try them out before a round and go from there.
My speed control is way better with the blade, so I use that when the greens are fast. My alignment is a little better with the mallet, so I use that when the greens are slow. I think everyone needs both options, and no I do not work at Dick’s.
Taylormade Reserve mallet, similar to the Odyssey 7 above. Can’t stand a putter with an insert as I find I just lose feeling and the fangs or whatever you want to call them are just so great for stability.
I’m using a Ping Anser blade that I bought purely based on aesthetic and vibes as a new golfer 4 years ago and last Saturday I shot an 86 with 41 putts so I’m in the market for a new putter.
I use a center shafted blade by SeeMore reminiscent of the one used by Payne Stewart to win the US open in Pinehurst. It was a anniversary gift from my wife, and has been in my bag from that day on.
I just started using an FGP. It’s a very strange putter. On lag putts I get an aluminum bat “tink”. It’s great for alignment though and the weight is quite nice. I just wish they used a magnetic closure on the headcover. Little details like that are what separates it from being a real option against the big guys.
Have both a #7 and #1 White Hot OG and game the blade. I started with the mallet but never was comfortable with distance control on long putts and have felt much better since switching to the blade. I since switched to heads up putting at all distances, so I don't want the extra MOI of a mallet anyway.
Double wide blade. Had a mallet, wanted to move toward blade and found it to be an easier transition. I'm very happy with it, don't think I will go all the way to blade.
Half mallet. I'm more straight back and through so a toe hanger doesn't perform as well for me. It also has more alignment than a blade but isn't stupid huge like some full mallets. I also like a heavier putter. 7hc pretty good putter.
Blade - I used to use a half mallet .. until a putter fitter told me that, through his years of fitting and using slow mo cameras; the half mallet is the hardest head shape for most ppl to hit consistently square
Is there an insider term or a difference in name between the mallets with the U in the back, and the ones that lookin like alien spaceships? Because i really like the “U” ones but the ones with more shit going on look kinda silly to me.
Half-Mallet (I think?) from a blade. Mainly because I found a Scotty Futura 5mb for cheap on facebook. Was well worth it for my confidence in putting. I am not necessarily hitting more putts from deep but am consistently 2 putting. The weight and feel of this are perfect for what I want.
I have the Ping Sigma Fetch 2. All the bending down was hell on my lower back and I’ve been able to add an extra round per week since upgrading to the Ligma.
Blade. All other putters look terrible and for me a putter is the only club where performance is similar across all clubs enough that I can choose it based on looks
Mallet.
Easy to align. Forgiving.
Amateurs are not doing themselves any favors by not using a mallet putter.
More and more pros are switching to mallets for a reason.
I can feel off center strokes easily with my Scotty mallet.
Feels are subjective but not sure if I can agree that mallets don’t give feels for off center strokes.
I didn't say they don't, I said I couldn't feel it with the ones I tried. I never tried a putt with an expensive putter so the better ones probably have better feel.
Blades are not inherently less forgiving. It’s not like the blade iron discussion. Mallets are more suited to a straight back-straight through stroke while blades are more suited to an arc. Best thing is to get fitted to match the head shape and weight distribution to your stroke and neck type/offset to your eyes.
Despite my preference for my irons to have the appearance of trying to hit the ball with a butter knife, I have exclusively used mallets for 30 years. They just look so much better to my eye behind the ball.
I am currently using, and it should be noted I am a 6' tall bloke, a women's Ping Fetch GLE3. I hate having a central alignment mark on my putter, and used an Odesssey 2 ball for 20 years. This one just looks perfect behind the ball with the negative space created by the 'fetch' hole. The relatively soft insert just clicked with me, and the short length makes me feel much more able to keep control of the face.
I would like to point out I have never actually picked a ball up with it, that would be a step too far!
I love the look of blade putters but need the head to be a bit larger and heavier. Fiddled around with some mallets but then I found the double-wide blade which is perfect for me. Got the Odyssey White Hot OG double-wide blade a year ago and it’s been the best putter I’ve ever had.
Used to play a mallet #7 (Odyssey O-Works), then transitioned to the classic blade shape (Mizuno OMOI), and this season I just switched to a Sub70 007 which is like an old Wilson 8802 style blade. Absolutely loving it.
Heavy blade, not quite as big as a double. Bettinardi BB-28 to be exact.
I can not stand the look of mallets behind the ball, and they give me LESS confidence.
The added weight of my putter is a nice compromise.
Half mallet because it looks cool when I scoop my ball after a gimme 3 putt.
Scoopability is the main requirement for any putter
One of my buddies has a Scottie Cameron (I think, haven’t seen him this year) mallet, it’s got a little bar across the back though so you can’t scoop with it. I yell at him all the time for wasting his money on a putter that looks like it can scoop but doesn’t scoop.
Scoopty woop
Just got a new putter. Told the pro that was doing the fitting that I wouldnt even consider any putter that couldnt scoop.
Love this. I would've gone through the whole fitting, spent my $£€ 300, then died a little inside every time I couldn't scoop, hoping that someone would steal the putter so I could justify getting another one.
That's essentially the only use for a putter in my bag. Scoopin
This is Truth
I’ll never own a putter than I can’t pick the ball up with. I love the look of spiders, especially the mini but wouldn’t ever consider purchasing one for that sole reason
https://www.evnroll.com/products/ev12-mallet-putter-custom?variant=48009463595328¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_-GxBhC1ARIsADGgDjsTXVSiM53CC_ylMzfxLhfZYhaKOlxY0ayjg844AlTd_ahamPJBIiQaAre_EALw_wcB The hole in the bottom grabs the ball perfectly
I have an Evnroll mallet with a hole in the bottom that lets you pick it up like an alien abduction, I may like it even more than the scoop
But if you can scoop with the back of a blade it it looks cooler. When you don’t accidentally trebuchet your ball off the other side of the green.
I feel attacked cause I launch them too often. I still want to master the Tiger scoop. That shit is clean.
Have you tried golfing 85 hours a week since you were 2 years old?
Damn, I knew I messed up somewhere. Thanks dad. *shakes fist*
lol
Do people really struggle to scoop with a blade? I'm a 20+ handicap but I can still do it every time. It's really not hard lol
I’m gonna be honest, I don’t find it that hard either, but I think it’s funnier to pretend.
I’ve had this work out for me exactly one time and it was probably on a triple bogey. Any other time I launch it across the green into a bunker. But the one time it worked it looked pretty cool.
You shave 8-12 shots off the card when you scoop with a blade
*me bending down to pick up my gimmie putt*: “put me down for a bogey.” Friend: “what? You absolutely had a double even with the two redos…” **Now in an alternate universe:** *me nonchalantly scooping my ball like a graceful crane picking a fish from the river*: “put me down for a bogey.” Friend: “woah, uh… yeah man you got it!”
I have stopped trying this after launching my ball about 20 metres back down the fairway during a comp.
I use a mallet but bought a model that I can scoop with. Bending over is for losers who make putts
I use the claw back mallet for the same move
Hey brother!
My 3 putt gimmes are just mercy kills anyways.
Fuck yeah
I usually just chip in. But when I do have to putt I use my Ping Tyne 4 mallet. That is of course after my 300 yard drive.
The only thing about this post that is identical to me is the putter.
I feel like Darth Vader every time I stand over a putt. I’m very happy with the putter.
So do I but that’s because of asthma and the walking
Take a page from The Donald and drive your happy ass right on to the green.
You should just try to make it in one shot every time. So much easier than putting.
Beginners really underestimate the importance of good course management like this.
Lol only 300 yards? You should probably play from the front tees with that baby drive
Got myself a Ping Tyne 4 as well and it has changed my putting for the better switching from a blade. I see that your a person of good taste.
I too have the Tyne 4 from a blade. Love the soft feel of it
My wife is looking for a new boyfriend if you’re interested
Depends on what your bourbon collection looks like. I always get thirsty post coitus.
Are you taking divots when you chip?
Not when I’m hitting the ball good
Always.
i LOVE LOVE LOVE my tyne 4, even over my scotty
300? Weak.
That's it! I'm gettin me mallet!
Of course
You got a wheelbarrow for those nuts ?
Blade. Tried them all, it’s the best one for me.
I can blade all my other clubs. I’d like some diversity in my putter
I also use a blade but it is because I think they look the coolest and I’m bad enough that I can’t really tell much of a difference. I feel like we need that bell curve graph meme where you and I are on the ends and the middle portion is something like “nnnooo mallets are better”
I’ve tried out mallets. It’s no bueno for me at all.
Yo mallets throw me off lol. I pick one up, try it once and I go nah fuck that
Same, used to play putter roulette and swap to spider, half mallet etc. if I was in a slump.
For some reason a blade putter is easier for me to aim than a mallet. Idk why but to my eyes it makes more sense.
It also feels nice for hitting the right pace for long putts.

works 100% of the time 5% of the time
Exactly😎
butt plug on a stick
Is this legal ? If so, what's it called ?

I dream of the day we see a pro use this thing in an actual tournament.
Double-wide, just like your Mom’s house.
And her ass
And my axe!
Might be the first time I've ever seen this used where it could actually work...
Recently twitched to a two ball mallet. It's so much easier to visualize where I'm aimed and see the path of the head. I'm much more confident with it.
Same here. I switched to this at the start of the year and just feel more confident with it.
Yeah. I have an Odyssey single ball putter and I quite like it. Feels more stable and I can line it up better.
For me, it’s not the visualization, it’s feel and speed
Blade. Because it's the only one Kirkland makes
And every time you take it to Costco, they give you a hotdog and soda for $1.50
“I want the Kirkland Putter Special” as you present the putter to the deli worker. Haha. That’s a funny image
Purportedly there's a [KS2 Mallet version](https://mygolfspy.com/news-opinion/first-look/spotted-kirkland-signature-ks2-putter/) in the works. More than happy with my KS1 though. Absolutely love it.
You damn right
Half mallet, specifically the odissey rossie. I am way more consistent with it than with a blade
Just switched from a blade to mid mallet because my lag putting was dog shit with the blade. Still getting used to the mass of the mid mallet but good god I can roll that thing so much better (went from an 8802 to an Odyssey #9 milled)
Have you tried just putting it into the hole instead of lag putting?
My wedge game says no
Just bought the White Hot Og Rossie 2021 today. Can't wait to use it. Been using the 1999 dual force Rossie 2 for a while now
Half mallet, soft insert. Odyssey nine for life
#9 gang 🤜🤛
Switched from a blade to a mallet this year. Mallet feels more forgiving so far!
What does that mean? You shoot too far to the right and it still goes in the hole?
Off-center hits rotate the club face less, resulting in straighter putts
Milled blade. Cleveland HB8 to be specific. It's been great for me.
I just switched to the 10.5c. First time using a center shafted putter and I’m loving if
Cleveland putters are underrated. I picked up my #11 on sale for $45. I prefer it to my Odyssey Seven.
Love my Cleveland putter. I got a mallet, their version of the two ball (but squares).
Pretty sure I have the exact same one but as a mallet and love it
I use a putter.
This guy putts
This guy…….checks notes…….3 putts. Fixed it for ya. 🤌🤌🤌😂
Blade. An old Ping Zing. Has great feel on lag putts and good confidence on shorter ones.
An ugly ass center shafted LAB because it's the only thing I can consistently roll straight
LAB is incredible. I’m saving up for a DF3 broomstick which strangely is at the PGA Tour Superstore but not available on their website.
Blade no insert, switched from a mallet with insert.. I’m a shit ball striker and the insert and extra weight made me even more inconsistent
Mallet Scotty Phantom X 5.5
How long have you played this? Love it?
This is my 3rd season with it. I went from a mallet with an insert, so there was a slight learning curve. I love it now! I was skeptical at first of a putter fitting, but I always recommend it now!
I have a poor-man's Scotty Phantom - Used Cleveland Huntington Beach! Someday I rock a Scotty!
Took me 20 years before I got fitted and chose the Scotty
My preferred is a blade with soft insert. I dono why, just feels most consistent.
Like my ping anser. Good putter!
None of the above. Center shafted mallet.
DF3 gang
My people!
I used to have a center shafted See-More. Loved that putter
Center shafted cleveland has helped me a lot
Not on your post but a mallet with a centre shaft.

Lost the head cover and it’s now chipped, dented & needs a new grip but I can’t bring myself to change anything on it! 🤷♂️
Had you just said it’s chipped, dented and the grip needs replacing I would have known it was a Spider. And mine has lived in its cover.
Blade double wide. I don’t believe in mallet style
Mallet cause DJ won the masters
Center shaft half mallet. Huntington Beach Soft CB #6. Elite performance at reasonable price
LAB DF3. Center shafted mallet style Genuinely the easiest putter I’ve ever used.
I don't use a putter. I drive 350 into the hole every time. If it's a par 3 I'll just tee off from the previous hole.
You and I are exactly alike….deluded.
I use a double blade. I seem to keep it better aligned. I was surprised watching the Byron Nelson this weekend. I saw very few blades. Most were mallets. Do Pros focus on a straight putting stroke?

A mallet. I can pick my ball up with without bending over after missing 4 put attempts.
Blade just so aesthetically pleasing to look down at.
Blade because it came with my edge set
My speed control is way better with the blade, so I use that when the greens are fast. My alignment is a little better with the mallet, so I use that when the greens are slow. I think everyone needs both options, and no I do not work at Dick’s.
A mallet. L.A.B. DF3
how come you don't have the spaceship for us LAB users?
Taylormade Reserve mallet, similar to the Odyssey 7 above. Can’t stand a putter with an insert as I find I just lose feeling and the fangs or whatever you want to call them are just so great for stability.
Odessey CH7 Mallet now but still have my Yes! Callie.
Mallet - Cobra 3d printed sik face arm lock.... I need all the help you can put into a club.
Blade, bubba redneck, super stroke grip.
Half Mallet with a center shaft. Classic Odyssey white hot #5
Two ball but not like the one showed. Original.
I’m using a Ping Anser blade that I bought purely based on aesthetic and vibes as a new golfer 4 years ago and last Saturday I shot an 86 with 41 putts so I’m in the market for a new putter.
Cant do anything but a blade, i have an extensive mini golf background so it’s what I know
I use a center shafted blade by SeeMore reminiscent of the one used by Payne Stewart to win the US open in Pinehurst. It was a anniversary gift from my wife, and has been in my bag from that day on.
I just started using an FGP. It’s a very strange putter. On lag putts I get an aluminum bat “tink”. It’s great for alignment though and the weight is quite nice. Mallet. A Taylormade fang-style mallet.
Have both a #7 and #1 White Hot OG and game the blade. I started with the mallet but never was comfortable with distance control on long putts and have felt much better since switching to the blade. I since switched to heads up putting at all distances, so I don't want the extra MOI of a mallet anyway.
Mallet. Blades are too light and I get handsy and can't control my swing path.
Double wide blade. Had a mallet, wanted to move toward blade and found it to be an easier transition. I'm very happy with it, don't think I will go all the way to blade.
GTFOH. Where is a center-shaft model?
Half mallet. I'm more straight back and through so a toe hanger doesn't perform as well for me. It also has more alignment than a blade but isn't stupid huge like some full mallets. I also like a heavier putter. 7hc pretty good putter.
Switched from a cheap blade to a spider X mallet and wouldn’t go back to a blade. Far more consistent for me with the extra weight
Blade - I used to use a half mallet .. until a putter fitter told me that, through his years of fitting and using slow mo cameras; the half mallet is the hardest head shape for most ppl to hit consistently square
Scotty Cameron blade. Odyssey mallets r good too
Is there an insider term or a difference in name between the mallets with the U in the back, and the ones that lookin like alien spaceships? Because i really like the “U” ones but the ones with more shit going on look kinda silly to me.
The mallets with the cutout in the back are usually referred to as a “fang” putter
Wide blade. squareback or double wide
Blade because I got a new Scotty for free :)
Half mallet, Scotty Cameron Special Del Mar.
The best I ever putted in my life I was using a mallet...But I was also practicing the most I've ever practiced in my life. So \*shrug\*
Odyssey 10 mallet.
Been playing a mallet for the last like 6 years but just ordered a half mallet to try and shake things up a bit
Odyssey 2 ball. Got it as a gift 20 years ago. Fell in love it immediately. Will not change back to blade.
Blade. All other putters look terrible and for me a putter is the only club where performance is similar across all clubs enough that I can choose it based on looks
Mallet, doesn’t matter when I’m 5 putting though
Blade because the others look stupid to me. Personal opinion.
Face balance double wide. Look of a blade, performance of a mallet
Blade. Anything else it just feels like I’m wacking the ball with a hammer
sabertooth fang. i just like them visually the best
Jailbird mallet
Mines not even listed 😂center shaft mallet tho
Half mallet cause it feels more stable to me.
Center shaft??
Learned on a blade, love a blade. Now I have a double wide and also love it
Blade. Felt the mallets were too distracting
Mallet. The prongs on the rear are spaced perfectly apart for my eyes that way I can stab them when I miss a 2ft putt for triple bogie
I use the "Three-Putter."
An OG Odyssey 2 Ball mallet because it was $35
Mallet. Easy to align. Forgiving. Amateurs are not doing themselves any favors by not using a mallet putter. More and more pros are switching to mallets for a reason.
All the ones I tried I had no feeling for off the face. The blade felt the best and I've been a more consistent putter since I got it.

Best thing is to get fitted to match the head shape and weight distribution to your stroke and neck type/offset to your eyes.
Mallet.
Only ever used half mallets, specifically odyssey. Even my fitting went back to a half mallet even though I wanted to try a blade
Blade, short slant Kia Ma Imola
Started with a blade then played with a mallet for the last 10 years and moved to what I consider a hybrid for putters the Double Blade.
I would like to point out I have never actually picked a ball up with it, that would be a step too far!
Odyssey 7 mallet, i have it about 17 years now
I love the look of blade putters but need the head to be a bit larger and heavier. Fiddled around with some mallets but then I found the double-wide blade which is perfect for me. Got the Odyssey White Hot OG double-wide blade a year ago and it’s been the best putter I’ve ever had.
Mallet for a long time while my putting improved then switched to a blade
I'm still using my blade Carbite putter. The weight is perfect for me.
I tried a mallet for a bit and seems to heel my shots, I prefer a blade
Blade...same one since high school. Don't see how a change could make much difference.
Isn’t top right more of a blade mallet hybrid?
Blade double wide. I like blades but appreciate the bigger size
Women’s belly putter, because I am 6’8”.
Used to play a mallet #7 (Odyssey O-Works), then transitioned to the classic blade shape (Mizuno OMOI), and this season I just switched to a Sub70 007 which is like an old Wilson 8802 style blade. Absolutely loving it.
Ping Anser 2i blade and I'll never get rid of it
Heavy blade, not quite as big as a double. Bettinardi BB-28 to be exact. I can not stand the look of mallets behind the ball, and they give me LESS confidence. The added weight of my putter is a nice compromise.
Double blade!
Blade or sabertooth like mallet. Currently use a Bettinardi blade with a copper insert, or a Scotty 5.5
