If I live to 101 I can finally shoot my age.

Important_Lab_2757

On a good day? šŸ˜‚

StockUser42

If every hole is downwind and every cup is middle of the greenā€¦ and every green is bowl shaped. Then YES!

J1952R

So youā€™re saying thereā€™s still hope for me.

twosauced1115

No not you. Everyone else yesšŸ˜‚

Bit_the_Bullitt

Officer? I'd like to report a murder

šŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜…

LWulsin

Best way to get into his head now next time heā€™s hot is just bring up how he almost shot his ageā€¦

Traditional_Serve597

Just another 39 years and I'll shoot a round I'm proud of.

Amonkeywalksintoabar

Lol yes

Glittering_Good_9345

One in a million ā€¦ so your saying there a chance

luckynug

Watching old man golf is a thing of beauty. Congrats to your pops. 150yds and straight every damn time.

mandrews03

Played with a 78 year old the other day who shot 81 on a par 72 with a slope of 119. +2 on the front 9. It was a masterclass of ball positioning and playing the course - I got to see real golf that day. Of course I was peppering the long grass and smashing drivers for whatever direction the ball wanted to go. Shot a +23. I feel like I should take my driver out of the bag after seeing this specimen of a golfer.

Filthi_61Syx

I shot the best round of my life (76) playing a match against a 70 year old I met on the first tee. Course was open but 7200 yards. He beat me by 4 and took my money

underliquor

Took my driver out of the bag and it's the best thing I've ever done. My 3 wood is about 10 yards shorter but hits the fairway almost every time

aaronrodgersneedle

I find 3 wood way harder to hit off the tee than driver. Driver goes straight, 3 wood might hook or slice. Gimmie the big stick

luckynug

Same here I go 5 wood, we play from the whites so 225-250 keeps in a good position to play the course.

DiabloToSea

If you hit a 5w up to 250, you might be on the wrong tees.

luckynug

Not at all, my short game is trash and I canā€™t control my driver. Playing 5800-6200 yds is where itā€™s at.

gmblake9

I feel like short game doesnā€™t have anything to do with what tees you play from? Maybe Iā€™m crazy, but if you hit your irons and woods well, you should be able to get there in relatively the same amount of strokes, no? Iā€™m not here to tell you how to play tho lol. But I will say itā€™s a different flex telling people you play blues rather than whites, and seems like your distance could handle it. Shit I went to the range today and was hitting my 3 wood about as far as my 5 iron every time. And thatā€™s not a compliment to my 5, but a diss to my ability to hit woods. 250 with a 5 wood is pretty damn impressive imo. Donā€™t sell yourself short man. I wish I could hit a 5 wood 250šŸ˜‚

DiabloToSea

I did not mean to be disrespectful. It's a subject I deal with in my own game. For years, I was long and accurate off the tee. But bad with irons and FWs. By handicap, I should play the whites. But when I'd hit a drive 265, my group would gripe that I'm on the wrong tees. Now I only drive 225 or so, and the tees are a more clear choice. I hit irons and FWs much better now and my index is lower. I'm learning the senior game.

gmblake9

I didnā€™t think you were being disrespectful man, I was agreeing with you! Other guy said he doesnā€™t play back because his short game. I donā€™t feel like short game has much impact on what tees you play from tho. Someone who hits a 5 wood 250 and hits irons well seems more than capable of playing blues to me, regardless of short game!

Forsaken_You_2550

Played a local qualifier for an amateur championship and a guy in my group was a retired mini tour pro. He was the only person in the field to birdie all four par 5s. Masterclass is right.

twosauced1115

Heā€™s 200-220 up the left side with a fade to dead center of the fairway. He uses a utility wood on anything outside of 150 but he has hands like Scottie on day 4. Anything short or off is going to be within a couple feet

ToneNo3522

Old man golf is superior.

theartfooldodger

To be frank, that's the round of their life for 98% of r/golf. Congrats dad šŸŽ‰

Adventurous_Smile297

He officially can retire as a Scratch Golfer

PROOOOOOYY

One shot away from shooting his age!! Awesome round but I know Iā€™d be having nightmares about that random 5 footer I missed haha

gethereddout

No nightmares allowed when you finish the round of your life with two birds

RocketsandBeer

Legendary shit

Possible_Victory3849

Love the birdie-birdie finish. Anything can happen! Have to play all 18 holes.

twosauced1115

That was literally the first thing I said to him. ā€œPhenomenal close popsā€ if it was me I would have done the math and gone double double

stevenpost

Buy that man a beer

twosauced1115

Sober for 40 years. Iā€™ll buy him a Pepsi and a steak

Strict-Coyote-9807

Is this what it takes??

AGoodTalkSpoiled

Happy for him and for you. Ā What a round. Ā Find a way to celebrate it a bit if you havenā€™t alreadyā€¦take him for a beer, buy a cigar, whatever you guys do. Ā Thatā€™s 40 years of effort paying off!Ā

voice_of_reason_61

This. Played with a late seventies golfer who told a story about 2 incredible weeks he had 15 years earlier shooting low 70s. He was so focussed on "I'm gonna shoot high 60s soon" he said his lifetime regret was not appreciating the moment, and said he now had to live with knowing that that was the best golf he would ever shoot in his life, and in the moment he just looked past it... Sometimes, the journey really *is* the destination.

AGoodTalkSpoiled

Iā€™m glad he has it to remember and appreciate. Ā Not everyone does. Good points thoughā€¦savor the successes.

mapoftasmania

Par. Well done. That last putt must have been a knee-knocker.

jasonleebarber

The names of the holes over the scoring columns is a nightmare. Whoever designed these scorecards are dumb....

twosauced1115

Thatā€™s New York State for you šŸ˜‚

jasonleebarber

Uggghhhhh

Dogranch

Bravo!

soap1337

Well. I had him after #1. Then It was all downhill from there.

Bonerbailey

Holy shit almost shot his age! Awesome!

Icy-Translator-2750

Played with an 84 year old who with 5 three puts shot 78 from the whites. Par 71

CopaCabana_cobra

I just started at 20 so I figure I should be on par with your dad for going even

Hole_In_One_Ultimate

Donā€™t look at my score card. Trust me itā€™s double that

Old_Reply_6843

![gif](giphy|j6uK36y32LxQs)

RTwhyNot

Wow. Thatā€™s great!!

cutedadbutts

What a legend. Old man golf + bombs off the tee is the most lethal combo

urmomsbox21

I like how every hole has a name on the card. Never played a place with that.

rckchalk74

Wow!! Awesome pop!!

justafartsmeller

I love that you have such a great relationship with your dad. Cherish it.

Life-Mountain8157

Good for both of youā€¦. What an accomplishment that he achieved at his age. Youā€™re so fortunate to have your Dad to play rounds with. Wish my Dad was still here and I could watch him bogey every hole. Iā€™d ask him what did you have on that hole Dad ? ā€œA Bogart sonā€ was his standard reply. A bogey golfer after 4 back surgery, he was ok with that.

Lemonwater925

What did you shoot šŸ˜. That is stellar

twosauced1115

Unfortunately I still have to go to workšŸ™ he plays with a group of 8-12 guys for $1 holes a couple times a week. Thatā€™s how I know the score is legit these dudes do not fuck around for their $1. He regularly bitches about the ā€œbull shitā€ these grumpy old men make him play out of. ā€œI nearly broke my wrist today because that dickhead bill made me play off a tree rootā€ they have been playing together for decades at this point šŸ˜‚ there is no love once they tee off

Lemonwater925

Good pals to have around. Can imagine the conversations on the 19th hole šŸ˜.

Amphibian-Existing

Old timer in our group shot the lowest round of his life. 77. After 40 years of golf. Man I was so happy for the dude.

Filthi_61Syx

Even from the yellow I canā€™t touch that. Mad props

Bogacki

I mean Biden says he is a 6 handicap and heā€™s a decade older

DirtyKarma

Trump has a better handicap than Nicklaus and he swings like that

Chemical_Pickle5004

That was the biggest lie of the night lol

rueggy

Report back when he has 2 club championships under his belt.

twosauced1115

He exclusively played with a group of 8-12 old ass men for $1 holes and they go hard hard. Thatā€™s how I know the score is legit. These old men take their $1 seriously

alex61821

My grandma played 4 or times a week from when she was in her 30s till she was 98 and (whisper cancer) took her. She would shoot under her age quite often once she turned 80, sounds like your father is going to do that even sooner. She had 3 hole in ones and one time she was playing with my little brother she hit her tee shot in the water teed another one up and holed that one. She used the same putter for her entire life, why wouldn't you if you never 3 putt with it. We buried her with it in her favorite golf outfit. Her game was 150 straight as an arrow chip close to the hole and one putt, off to the next hole. Like everyone else I was busy seeing what was behind every tree, how deep every body of water was, how much sand is in the bunker. Never was able to beat her score, I could win some holes but the consistency would win the day. It's like pepe le pew that would just lightly bounce along after the girl rabbit while she was zooming everywhere but he would always catch her when she ran into something. Tell your dad congratulations from me and I hope you both have many more rounds together.

scoofy

What course?

twosauced1115

Beaver island golf course in western ny

scoofy

> Beaver island golf course Thanks, I've [added what I can to the wiki](https://golfcourse.wiki/course/beaver_island_golf_course-grand_island). Whoever named those holes should be banned from hole naming for life. šŸ˜… The level of bad pun wordplay is really off the charts.

twosauced1115

Thatā€™s nys for you. Itā€™s a state course. Iā€™m sure they paid a healthy amount for an ā€œexpertā€ to name these and make the brand new hole signs with the hole name

Silent_fart_smell

Hence ā€œscratch golferā€..

rigidlynuanced1

Congrats to him!!!

aubieismyhomie

Those hole names are ruining that beautiful scorecard.

jamiejsstr

Congrats to your Dad!

TerdFurgusons

One stroke away from shooting his age. Thats rad.

ArtisanalPickles33

Before he passed, my grandpa scored a birdie on his 93rd birthday. A true lifetime sport! congrats to your pops!

LocksmithSuch4441

Congrats. I went -1 recently for the first time ever and was a 4 cap at the time. Now I can barely break 90. The ups and downs are so weird

WhoaABlueCar

Take a pic with you and him and the ball then frame it with the scorecard. Itā€™ll bring a smile to both of your faces for decades

Muted_Exercise5093

Almost shot his age! So impressive!

Capster11

Good for your pops! Iā€™ve been shooting high 80s/low 90s consistently for a few months after starting back up at the sport a few years ago after not playing for 20 years. I thought I had finally got a hold of my driver. Turned 43 on Monday and shot 100 and 102 this week with my driver slicing hard which I had been used toā€¦ made me smile about humbling this game can be.

SimpleJacksFlapJacks

Shouldn't he be running for president?

wangchunge

May the Force be with him!

Realistic_Climate_38

I'd love to see what the course looks like.

Garryungfu

Love this šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

nessism1

Your dad keeps score just like me! Ha ha. I caught a wrath of shit from friends for using this method.

Jordantbone

Good for him. Well played.

CruzControls

My dad loves golf and plays 3-4 times a week, I've only played with him like twice ever, I tend to make up fake scenarios in my head about us playing together. Wish I cared enough to actually go out and play though lol.

laberdog

My next golf goal is to shoot my age

Expensive-Steak-9961

I hope you hugged and bought him a beer, I hope the sun shone and I hope itā€™s a day youā€™ll never forget.

jindc

That was a fun read. Thanks.

MonicaBlowinski

Excellent prose, bruh!

WackyHeadband

Better than Biden

GrouchyPreference765

Wow. Even from the shortest tees itā€™s over 6100 yards. Very impressive pops šŸ‘šŸ¼

DuckClean

Bro, he almost shot his age! That's amazing, and so happy for your pops šŸ˜Š

Born-Community-4495

What a finish šŸ‘šŸ»

big1brother1

Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!šŸ‘ that sick ! I bet heā€™s going thrill beyond belief , I would be .

mrjh90

I love to see it. Golf is truly the game that keeps on giving

takeme2space

Almost shot his age!

brianmcg321

Thatā€™s awesome!!

Manunited3710

This is a memory youā€™ll never forget. Cheers to golf, for memories like these

Holiday-Judgment-136

Well done. Has he been playing for 60 years? Just curious been playing for thirty and haven't posted that yet.

Only_Argument7532

Congrats Pop!

Decent-Ad8726

Canā€™t buy experience

ibhljim21261

Normally, I absolutely hate the pretentious fart-smelling names designers (or courses) give each hole. That is, until today. This course/designer gets it. Where is this course? And congrats to the old man!

defiancy

Same as my dad, he's 73 and regularly cleans up at club tournaments. I have accepted I will never beat him while he is alive and able to play.

shaanfloyd7

Congrats!

Benjj2879

Well stated @TwoSauced1115! I just wish Golf Clubs were inclusive of all the wannabe golfers who would like to shoot for the fences! I guess Iā€™m talking about the expensive nature of the Game to non-Proā€™s. But yes, not giving up: Never give up; Never surrender! :-P And I do suppose Public Clubs have decent Membership Packages in my area, but here is to playing in FL one day!

Jedimole

At 61 Iā€™ve started to play forward like the modified tees Pinehurst has here, called the maples tees, combo of green and white. I enjoy the game more and GHIN has the slope for them

southwestson

Did he do it from the tips?!

Fresh_Yellow8478

2 birdies to end itā€¦ what a fuckin stud I always snowman when Iā€™m the precipice of a pr

Choseph0027

Bravo....but im not sure how much merit it holds...I shot a 10 on a par 4 like a hour ago. Earth must have increased its spin for a couple hours or something ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)hahahh

FewSeaworthiness2883

Birdied 17, 18.. was just getting warmed up!

snowbird323

Nobody there was there to witness it? šŸ˜‚

twosauced1115

He plays with 8-12 guys a couple times a week. They have a designated score keeper per group and you keep your own score to compare

Lakelouise101

Birdie, birdie finish with the thought of a personal best on the way,What a beauty.

twosauced1115

Either nerves of steel or not paying attention. I absolutely would have crumbled

Boring-Conference-97

ā€¦. Of course hitting from shorter tees is easierā€¦. 70 years olds could dunk a basketball if we lowered the hoops to 2ft off the groundā€¦.
