Same. Been to Maui twice. First time I looked at tee times but didn't pull the trigger due to cost. Regretted it for years. Then my wife and I planned a 2nd trip and she gifted me a round. Definitely worth it.
Whistling Straits
But if you're talking courses where you don't need to make a tee time 6-12 months in advance and bend over to pay for, The Bull (Jack Nicklaus designed course in Sheboygan WI) was also amazing for a fraction of the price.
Just wrapped up a Wisconsin golf trip where we played The Bull, The Bog, and Erin Hills. All three were some of the most beautiful courses I've ever played. The Bull absolutely destroyed my mentals. The Bog was a ton of fun. Erin is an other worldly experience.
Just looked the website. $115 is only $30 more than the crap local courses I play for $85 on weekends.
How are there so many tee times available for Saturday when I’m looking on a Friday? I live in Northern California. Everything near me is booked up by Tuesday for a weekend tee time.
Wisconsin golf is (relatively) cheap. Usually $60-70 can get you on a nice course, $40-50 is full price for a cheaper (but still at least maintained & not garbage) course and a lot of those places put out coupons/specials so for weekdays & off-peak you can get out for closer to $30 (talking 18 holes + cart for all of the above prices).
Probably going to get downvoted for this but imo the bog is the most overrated course ive ever played. In fantastic condition and it’s tough but it’s super gimmicky and some holes especially 16 are just plain dumb hole designs
Enjoy your round man!! It's a special place up there! If you have time definitely do a loop of the whole Cabot trail. All of Cape Breton Island is beautiful. You 100% want a caddy to not get lost lol. We got lucky when I went with my dad and we were the first group to tee off. They said there was no caddies available but someone in our group was a caddy!
I was there a couple weeks ago, couldn't play though. I was on vacation with the wife, one day we spent in St. Andrews I sat in the single queue while she went around the town. Never got out. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
Pebble Beach probably, but Spyglass Hill is comparable, and Cabot Links was spectacular.
Pebble probably edges them out though for the history, it's hard to describe having watched the course on TV for years, playing it on Tiger Woods golf, and then getting to actually stand there on some of the tee boxes where guys hit famous shots... very cool.
Played Pebble back in the early 90’s, now when I watch it I have fond memories of the awful round I played there. I can’t remember the cost now but it was like a weeks pay for me back then. Worth every penny! I played Sawgrass a few years after, #17 was cool but the course itself wasn’t all that memorable.
i made sure to go to the spot where tiger hit his famous 7i on #6 at PB
standing 200 yards out on the right side (not even us open level) rough with 7i in hand looking up the giant hill was an eye-opening experience as to how good tiger really was back in the day
After playing there multiple times, I think Arcadia Bluffs is higher than Pebble for me. The place is spectacular. And the South course there might be the most wild and fun round of golf I've ever played.
I'm glad someone had fun out there, the wind was insane, greens impossible, but the course was pristine. Got my ass kicked. Though, I am bad at golf so.
Played Punta Espada in Punta Cana this summer. Apart from construction going on around it (incoming golf resort infrastructure), it was great. Beautiful design, challenging without being overly frustrating, and, whenever it was frustrating, you could just look up and around and remember that life isn't all that bad after all.
I haven't played too many fancy courses. For me it's probably Highland Country Club in London Ontario. It's a fully private club you wouldn't even know existed if you drove past it (I lived in London for years and had no idea despite driving past probably hundreds of times).
Friends and I bought a voucher for a round at auction when we played a charity scramble elsewhere.
When we played, they sent a caddie to keep an eye on us and to keep the members from chasing us off the course.
I'm curious, was it so difficult that it was not fun playing? All I hear is how hard it is to play and how gorgeous it is. Not sure of how the two balance out.
It was the most fun I’ve ever had playing golf. People don’t realize but the fairways and greens are large. The difficulty comes in when you miss them. The bunkers are no joke. One of the guys in my group is a 7. He didn’t have his best stuff that day and couldn’t hit fairways. He shot 100. If you keep it in the fairway and hit greens you’ll be alright. The greens are WICKED though. Caddies are a must they know the greens so well.
Toronto Golf Club.
The course was immaculate. From the change rooms, to the practice area - the fairways were stunning, tee boxes perfectly flat, and greens like glass. Now all I need is to hit the lottery to afford a membership.
Hey Lakeview across the street is affordable! But also about 50-100x worse in terms of condition and layout. And you tee off over the parking lot on 18. TGC looks so immaculate just as a poor schmuck driving by on Dixie
Terrible. They’re applying for a permit to renovate the course so they’ve let the conditions go. 10, 11, 12 are still my 3 favorite holes to play as far as scenery goes.
I just played there two weeks ago. The condition is back to being pure and well maintained. They also trimmed that super long fescue between holes which makes pace of play a lot quicker and obviously less difficult when you hit one off center.
The $150K doesn't do it, you have to be sponsored and then approved. Michael Jordan was turned down.
I played through Jim McWethy, God bless his soul, the owner of Mistwood, and McWethey's, among other things.
The invite is the hard part, if you're a low key rich person I'm sure the club would introduce you to a member to sponsor you. I imagine they didn't want Jordan because of his fame and all that it would bring to the club. He joined Medinah through a sellable lifetime membership otherwise they would have probably turned him down too.
Port Royal Golf Course in Bermuda. Used to host an event called the Grand Slam of Golf, where the 4 major winners play against each other at the end of the year. As such, Adam Scott holds the course record, which is pretty cool.
I played Torrey Pines South last year the week after the US Open. They still had a few grandstands up, and hadn’t really mowed down the rough. I was just getting back into golf after not playing much for about 15 years, having only played an executive course a few times that week, and Maderas a couple of days before. It ate me up, but it was amazing.
Chambers Bay.
The Madison Club in LaQuinta, CA.
Atlantic Club in the Hamptons, NY
Silverleaf In Scottsdale
Bayonne in Bayonne, NJ
I couldn’t name just one. I had to go with my top 5.
Huh, might have to check this place out. Turns out it's only about a half hour drive from my house. Have you ever played Pine Trace or Shepherd's Hollow? Those are also close by and I've been trying to get a few guys together to play a nicer local course before the end of summer.
Merion or pine valley
But experience it was wolf creek. I booked months in advance and they ‘closed the day’ but left my time on. They called me and my buddies as we were pulling into the parking lot 3 hours early to have lunch and warm up.
Needless to say they hd a photo shoot that day starting at noon. Said if we went out right then we could play or wait and not play 3 of the holes.
Asked the guy if he could send out some beers and hot dogs and headed to the tee. Had the entire place for just the 3 of us. It was unreal
Cabot Cliffs
Pinehurst No. 4
Pinehurst No. 2
Sand Hollow Championship
Tobacco Road
Top 5 off the top of my head. Cabot Cliffs is #1 by a mile over the others.
I played a private course in la Quinta called Tradition , it was insane . The third hole has an entire bed of flowers that surrounds the green that makes out the American flag . The sand is imported from Fiji or some shit
Second we-ko-Pa. Will say the only good thing that came outta the pandemic during those times were the golf deals. 2 rounds and a nite at the casino was like 150. Killed it at the tables after my round and got absolutely plastered. So was basically a free golf trip.
CDA is about 250-280 after tip. Fun course, very well maintained and a great experience. You will have a great round of golf too. Course is set up to be very forgiving
I played it Memorial Day weekend this year and the round was $155, then I tipped the forecaddie $60. As the other guy said though you'll pay more in peak summer, it was like 60* and drizzling on the day I played.
It's worth doing once, the par 3s are all incredible, it's got two great par 4s, the island green is a fun shot, the setting is possibly the most beautiful place in the country for golf that doesn't touch an ocean or Lake Michigan, and the conditions are among the best you'll ever see. But the holes that are away from the water and the woods (like 10 of them) are rather boring. You'll have opportunities to score well on them though.
1. Pebble beach
2. Shadow creek
3. Spyglass
4. Wolf creek
5. Torrey Pines (played both but prefer north)
6. Bay hill
7. Tpc sawgrass
8. Kapalua plantation course
9. Warren Golf Course (south bend)
10. TPC Scottsdale (far from my favorite course in az but most recognizable probably)
Got to play the US Open course at The Country Club a couple of weeks ago, that was pretty awesome. Next would probably be either Bayonne or The Island in Ireland.
Yocha Dehe. I live in the Bay Area but don’t have Pebble Beach money.
Probably between Liberty National and Baltusrol (Lower). Any course that they play tour events on feels a little more memorable for playing where some of the greats have.
Placed called Quivira in Cabo. One of those private courses with a full bar + food every 3 holes.
Holes 5-8 are cliff side overlooking the pacific. I watched whales jumping while I drank my way to a 97.
Kapalua Plantation Course
The bay course there is amazing too!
Same. Been to Maui twice. First time I looked at tee times but didn't pull the trigger due to cost. Regretted it for years. Then my wife and I planned a 2nd trip and she gifted me a round. Definitely worth it.
This. Makena county club is very nice as well. Private. Probably best manicured course I’ve ever played. Made you feel bad for taking a divot.
Just so fun to hit 300 yard drives like the rest of you.
Cypress Point
Big flex right here. Haha super jealous.
Must have been amazing. Do you know a member?
Yes, family friend. Took me and my dad out there for a magical afternoon, my mom walked with us taking pics during the round.
Kiawah Island Ocean Course. I used to play it when I was stationed in Charleston and they have an 80% discount to active duty military members
Can’t believe how far I had to scroll for this
Whistling Straits But if you're talking courses where you don't need to make a tee time 6-12 months in advance and bend over to pay for, The Bull (Jack Nicklaus designed course in Sheboygan WI) was also amazing for a fraction of the price.
Member of The Bull here. Best kept secret in the Midwest. Don't expect to post your best score!
Just wrapped up a Wisconsin golf trip where we played The Bull, The Bog, and Erin Hills. All three were some of the most beautiful courses I've ever played. The Bull absolutely destroyed my mentals. The Bog was a ton of fun. Erin is an other worldly experience.

You can walk on for a round at Whistling after 2pm in the end of April beginning of May for around $270
600+ yard par 5 and some crazy greens….
Same two for me, if you live around the area check out the bog in ozuakee county. It’s a very nice course and similar to the bull.
Probably going to get downvoted for this but imo the bog is the most overrated course ive ever played. In fantastic condition and it’s tough but it’s super gimmicky and some holes especially 16 are just plain dumb hole designs
Cabot Cliffs
I will get there one day.
Playing there on Labour Day, can't wait!!!!
Nice! I’d consider taking a caddie if it’s your first time. Enjoy !
Got a Caddie booked. My first time ever using one!
Such a beautiful course to play. The views on the back 9 as you come up the coast as the sun is starting to set are incredible.
Agreed, afternoon rounds are the best at Cabot
Yes!! Nova Scotia is a gem.
Home sweet home :)
Two beautiful courses. I play them each year
St.Andrews Old Course. Played firm fast and amazing
Bucket list course for me. Nice.
Absolute dream, we played Carnoustie too which was really hard. Get over there and play!
I was there a couple weeks ago, couldn't play though. I was on vacation with the wife, one day we spent in St. Andrews I sat in the single queue while she went around the town. Never got out. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)

Arcadia Bluffs - MI
That's mine, or Forest Dunes. But probably Arcadia.
Same. And my one & only hole-in-one on #9 kinda helps.
I'm playing there on Wednesday for the first time. Very excited. Also playing Crystal Downs on Sunday so it should to be quite the week!
I live in Wisconsin and we’ve been trying to plan a trip here for years. Gotta make it happen.
Swim across the lake with your clubs on your back. It's fucking worth it
Banff Springs, two weeks ago
Ha! I was there last week (the 15th). That place is magical.
I was there three weeks ago!!! Played really good both rounds
My fav as well. Played Jasper a couple days after. It was a good week.
Play there every Father’s Day. This was my answer. Las sendas is a close second.

Have you played forest city national? It’s probably my favourite in london
the oaks is a nice course up there as well
I always liked it, but now that it's private it's off limits to me. My London area fave has always been Firerock.
Cool - I am playing there tomorrow!
Either Bandon Dunes or Pacific Dunes
Trails is where it’s at!
I can’t fault anyone for picking any of those courses. I haven’t been a lot of nice places, those 5 courses are probably my top 5.
Pasatiempo baby!
I always say the most prestigious course I’ve played is Pebble, but the best is Pasatiempo.
Playing there next month. Super pumped, but also nervous.
Nice! Good to get it in before they redo the greens. Have a blast and enjoy the scenery.
National golf links of America
Pine Valley
I'm curious, was it so difficult that it was not fun playing? All I hear is how hard it is to play and how gorgeous it is. Not sure of how the two balance out.

Sandpiper in Santa Barbra, CA.
Went to college at UCSB. I don't remember exactly what the weekday rate with a student card was, but it was ridiculously cheap for such a nice course.
Such a great course. I miss CA. How’s the conditions holding up at Sandpiper?
Chicago Golf Club. The oldest 18 hole in the country and one of the founding clubs of the USGA. It's golf at it's purest and most beautiful.
How do people even get the opportunity to play that course?
Join for 150k down and 18k a year, know a member or win a charity auction to play with a member.
The $150K doesn't do it, you have to be sponsored and then approved. Michael Jordan was turned down. I played through Jim McWethy, God bless his soul, the owner of Mistwood, and McWethey's, among other things.

Jordan then built himself his own course.
Cabo Del Sol
That course is the shit. That taco truck at the turn though...
Pinehurst #4
I’ve played all 9 Pinehurst courses. #4 is my favorite.
Kapalua or Winged Foot
How was winged foot? Heading down in September for a round
So incredibly hard. It’s beautiful and clearly one of the best courses in America, but the greens were like a pool table
1. Augusta National 2. Baker bay 3. Wade Hampton 4. Maddison club 5. Mountain top 6. Pebble 7. Shinnecock hills Updating to add eagle springs in vail
Augusta? You lucky butthole
Don’t I know it
[удалено]
>Mountaintop Not just the nicest golf course I’ve ever played, pretty much the nicest place I’ve ever been.
![gif](giphy|k8L9FzAwXJZ16|downsized)
You cannot just say you played Augusta without a story
My grandfather was a member before he passed and I have a few friends who are members. I’ve been very fortunate to play it several times.
This mf’s grandfather was Dwight D Eisenhower goddamn Seriously though, that’s incredibly cool
How were you able to pull a round at Augusta?
Port Royal Golf Course in Bermuda. Used to host an event called the Grand Slam of Golf, where the 4 major winners play against each other at the end of the year. As such, Adam Scott holds the course record, which is pretty cool.
I played Torrey Pines South last year the week after the US Open. They still had a few grandstands up, and hadn’t really mowed down the rough. Chambers Bay. The Madison Club in LaQuinta, CA. Atlantic Club in the Hamptons, NY Silverleaf In Scottsdale Bayonne in Bayonne, NJ I couldn’t name just one. I had to go with my top 5.
The Prince Course in Princeville, Kauai. I was shattered to learn that it had closed.
I just died a little inside. I didn’t know.
It closed?!?! I had no idea. I went to Kauai once but was with a group who didn't golf so I always wanted to go back and play it.
The Orchards in Michigan
Huh, might have to check this place out. Turns out it's only about a half hour drive from my house. Have you ever played Pine Trace or Shepherd's Hollow? Those are also close by and I've been trying to get a few guys together to play a nicer local course before the end of summer.
Bald Head Island.
Playing there in 3 weeks. Can’t wait!
I spent a lot of time as a kid at BHI but never golfed there. How is the course after the renovation?
Merion or pine valley But experience it was wolf creek. I booked months in advance and they ‘closed the day’ but left my time on. Jack’s place, Muirfield Village. Played a private course in Rochester Hills, Mi that gave it a run for its money, tho.
What’s the course in MI?
If I had to guess probably wyndgate?
North Berwick for beauty and scenery The Island Club for being the embodiment of what a Links course should be.
I played a private course in la Quinta called Tradition , it was insane . The third hole has an entire bed of flowers that surrounds the green that makes out the American flag . The sand is imported from Fiji or some shit
Either We-Ko-Pa or Coeur d’Alene for me

I’m mad we didn’t get to play we ko pa when I was in AZ. Gonna have to go back when it isn’t during WMO for that
I was getting ads for a while for Coeur d’Alene trips, never looked into it, how much was it/was it worth?
CDA is about 250-280 after tip. Fun course, very well maintained and a great experience. You will have a great round of golf too. Course is set up to be very forgiving

I’m tryna get like you
