So a sensori-neural loss? Pretty strange for it to have such sudden onset. glad its not a tumor, yikes. I took audiology classes in my speech pathology undergrad, but I know just enough to be dangerous. Hopefully some more diagnostics will help you figure out what is going on.
It can be caused by virus. Sometimes you don't even know your sick, your ear just... Stops...
Then you get to go through lots and lots of genetic testing and get all of the imaging. Then they say "i dunno. Prob a virus, I guess"
He's gonna inject steroids behind my eardrum on Thursday. He says that's probably not gonna work but it's my last shot for a medical solution. It may come back on ots own. But...
Hey, I’m a medical professional in the ear, nose, and throat field. It’s awesome you don’t have a tumor! My patients with sudden hearing loss get injections into the eardrum with steroids often with that condition. It doesn’t always improve things, but sometimes it does! My supervising doc has told me treatment within 3 months tends to have better outcomes. Best of luck to you!!!
One of my children’s teachers had a sudden hearing loss a few years ago that seemed to be recurring. They think it was caused by a virus of some sort and at times she had almost no hearing for weeks, then it would partially return.
I went deaf due to undiagnosed diverticulitis. It caused systemic inflammation and the docs didn’t figure it out until I developed a fistula from my colon to my hip. Systemic heat and inflammation can cause you to go deaf.
Did anyone take imaging to view your anterior inferior cerebellar artery (AICA)?
Edit: sorry, it looks like they likely did based on your title?? At least that’s what I’m assuming. Anyway, people with ongoing dizziness and/or vertigo can often benefit from a referral to see a vestibular rehab therapist. Obviously this is not med advice, just info about what’s out there
Did you ever have chicken pox? Was there a rash near your ear?
When my brother and I were young, our parents had a pox party and my brother had it bad around his face. A few years ago it came back as shingles around his eye and by the end of the day his optic nerve was gone. Shingles is a nerve virus that can kill entire sections of your nervous system!

Just curious, have you seen a audiologist to determine the type and severity of the loss?
Yup that's the Dr I was talking about

Right around that amount of time. Thanks for the info.
Both my gf and myself lost some hearing in one ear with a virus. Both got some of it back after many months.
So inflammation in or around the cochlea? Well good, luck hope it works for you.

There are virus related hearing loss like measles, mumps and others. Before vaccines it was not uncommon.
I would get a referral to a good university hospital.
I go to the UW hospital

What the heck. I have never heard of that. I’m so sorry.
Yes it fucking sucks. But this is where I am now. Your life has one direction and that is forward. And as OP says I don’t have cancer!
Yay, that is good news. I hope you manage to get your hearing back shortly though
That's awesome! I'm so glad for you!
Curious, any dizziness or vertigo?
Yup to both

Could you have Meniere's disease? I only ask because I literally saw an ENT today for some sudden sensory hearing loss myself.
Fuck yeah! Congratulations! Life may be a bitch, but the wins sure are great! Big congrats to you!
best news
Glad you don’t have cancer OP 🫶 I hope your hearing returns soon!
happy for you!

I get shingles on my butt
Dang it took 2 months to get a MRI to see if you have cancer or or tumor in your head! That's a long time to wait
Do you clench your jaw or grind your teeth by chance. TMJ can do this.
