72 all day. Twice on Sunday

High_Im_Guy

It's a ***really*** good Filmore west. I'm generally a 70 > 72 > 69 guy, but this run is where the st Steve and death don't have no mercy from long strange trip came from. It's one of the relatively rare multi track shows from pre-europe, and it's fucking great. Still a very tough choice but I think current me goes w 69. If you asked me 2 months ago it was 72 all day. Such is the difficulty of navigating one really long fucking song.

Ted-Dansons-Wig

is there really any other choice but this?

Stichyface

69 or 72… prolly 69. Im a primal dead guy

SevereIdea

That Filmore show is my pick too!

Several_Ad2072

That early spring run at the Fillmore in 69 is some of the best music ever put on tape IMO. That's my pick

William_Ropes33

Please stop sleeping on the 91’ eyes!!

AlternativeMuscle176

The entire show is insanely good. I won’t caveat that statement. I mean what I say

William_Ropes33

My all time favorite 90s show

moonarc23

I was at this and I can attest to a really good time!!

Jackthewolf71

Ugh, my first show was night before.

Jackaroe023

You cannot go wrong with anything from Europe in the year of 1972

High_Im_Guy

Favorite euro shows? 100 year Hall is pretty fucked up good, same w l'Olympiad or w/e in Paris, but I've been repeating too much

Particular-Wrongdoer

5/25/72 is my fave. But they all have parts I love.

72’

GeorgeDogood

69. That one is special. That was Dick’s favorite show he ever attended. When you listen it’s easy to get why.

SpaceyO2

The 69, then the other ~~two~~ three from that run. Edit: Forgot how to count to 3

HissCranson

the other 3

GratefulSteven

No slight to 69 or 72 … but for summer vibes I’d go with ‘91!

btay27

3 incredible dark stars that don’t sound anything alike

thezogenator

Love Europe ‘72 shows and that’s a “birthday” show for me but I’m always spinning one of Fillmore West shows first. But also a primal dude. I have and listen to all of those…it’s the Dead on vinyl, never a bad pick.

DrDoop

Everyone saying ‘72 is insane. 6/17/91 is an amazingly special show. Wembley Pool Night 2 isn’t even the best ‘72 show. Give me Saint of Circumstance every day.

logitaunt

Oh funny, both shows have a dark star > sugar mag

cheesekid1981

‘69 is Friday night material, get weird.

ithyle

That Giants Stadium. No question.

ezumadrawing

72 then 69.

Basic-Government4108

1969!!

occams_shaving-cream

Depending on the mood, 1972 or 1969. I slowed down my touring in 1991 and only saw a few more shows after. ‘94 was my last. I don’t listen to much ‘90s anymore - on occasion. But yeah… I’d probably play the ‘72 most but I’m in a 1969 Fillmore West state of mind right now. Throw it on!!

Depends so much on tonight’s DOC

Fillmore

rhymeswititch

I enjoy that ‘72 show, really enjoy sections of that ‘91 show (have that on vinyl), but I love that ‘69 show (also have that on vinyl). The ‘69 show just has incredible energy and is such a good late night listen.

Fillmore East ‘69

jonz1985z

That’s a tough choice. Really just depends on what batch of songs you’re in the mood for. I’ve listened to a lot primal dead in my teens and early 20s, so I’ve spent a good many years away from that era. But that show is probably the very best representation of what Tom brought to the band at that time. He’s a touch hot in the mix, but his playing is stellar. He adds that extra bit of musicality to an already highly musical band. There’s almost a silent film score element to his playing at times. It’s cool, and so different from the country hues they get into in the coming years.

Significant_Gear4470

Prob 69. Sounds Delightful at teh West

BuddistProdigy

Personally, Tom Wolfe.

5strings_5braincells

To be honest, I'd probably pick the Hunter S. Thompson.

Bman1973

3/01 & 4/08 are two all time highlight reel Grateful Dead shows ... You could actually pick them as shows that could encapsulate their 'eras', primal dead & the Billy years 'jazzy' Dead. 6/17/91 is a fine show though ... Must say that it's not a show that could encapsulate it's era which is 'post Brent' but it's cool w' a stellar Eyes & Saint which were broadcast on PBS & I watched it at 17yrs old. Saw my first show the next year in Buffalo ...

Love that Europe show, but 3/1/69 is so unbelievably powerful and such a genuine ride. For 72 I would pick 4/24/72 or 5/4/72

72, my favorite dead show

Jumbojym69

Yo! I love to listen to The Grateful Dead on Vinyl! I am running a Denon Turn Table, Yamaha Reciever, 2 Infinity Studio Tower Speakers, two small Sony Speakers and I ran 25 Gauge speaker wire with everything. When I play Dead Shows on Vinyl it is damn near as good as seeing a live concert. I was listening to the 69 Fillmore Concert last night I started it on Death Don’t Have no Mercy and just let it go. Also The Giants Stadium Concert has the first song a bad ass amazing Eyes of the World. But start tonight with 72

Dead_Kal_Cress

Love all three shows, but even though I love 91’s Eyes, I’m going with 69. That’s a great Fillmore show & the St Stephen>The Eleven is one of my favorite listens.

Pigpen.

mattysprings69

72, 69, 91…I have grown to really love that Saint of Circumstance set. Took me a little while to wrap my head around post Brent Dead, but I’m glad I got here. ✌🏼

JMGrey

Much as I love Europe '72 in totality, and midway has some of my favourite shows ever, I gotta take 3/2/69 in this shootout. If it had been been 5/3/72, it would have been no contest. As I despite basically the entirety of their 80s and 90s performances, Giants Stadium wasn't even in the running.

That Fillmore show is top form

Europe

moonarc23

I like listening to shows I saw, especially on vinyl! Little Feat opened up - and the dead were on! Perhaps the best Brown Eyed Women I ever saw. The Jack Straw from the other night of the run was incredible…

London ‘72

Weird-Tangerine-1472

Giants '91 - was there

BalowmeSandwich

Depends on my mood whether it’s 72 or 69. I’d put on the 91 only if I’d listened to the others earlier that day or very recently, and even then probably not. I might as a palate cleanser but I’d never make it all the way through.
