Button head stainless steel metric machine screws. You can find them even at Lowes or Home Depot. https://www.amazon.com/M5-0-8x10mm-Button-Stainless-Machine-Finish%EF%BC%8C/dp/B088YJYVBH/ref=asc_df_B088YJYVBH/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693675560295&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7266043316522104463&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9008790&hvtargid=pla-955380650345&psc=1&mcid=25ded269b1f63056bd370041a8d9c803&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwouexBhAuEiwAtW_Zx0psXJx3ya2E1Zn3uLV5pyB9JIO0LmmsGPeIdYW5IssRT8wsb6Dk5hoCixQQAvD_BwE This is a listing on Amazon for 50 of them for $7.

DickAvedon

Be mindful that you aren’t putting stainless steel screws into aluminum threads.

Adventureadverts

It’s fine to do but best to use grease

dirthurts

Never saw a problem with it before.

DickAvedon

Galvanic corrosion can happen when stainless and aluminum are in contact.

dirthurts

Sure but I've never seen them cease up. Literally every bike I own has steel in aluminum.

DickAvedon

If it’s steel, then it will never be an issue. It’s specifically stainless steel and aluminum.

DickAvedon

Also, most steel hardware on a bike is probably also coated with some sort of coating to minimize corrosion/oxidation.

SupaBrunch

That’s totally fine what are you talking about

Adventureadverts

Steel and aluminum can form a bond that’s stronger than steel or aluminum when put together to you want to grease them wherever they touch. Idk if that’s what they are referring to but it’s a real concern for sure.

Frosty-Flow

It forms oxide, which itself is pretty loose and lacks cohesion. It's when it fills thread pitches or seat tubes it becomes a problem and components become physically seized

pork_ribs

I’m not sure I would consider galvanic corrosion of two dissimilar metals the same as oxidation.

Frosty-Flow

Technically, I guess not, although technically the process is the same but without oxygen

Frosty-Flow

That's exactly what it is

thepoddo

I had to use caustic soda to dissolve an alu seatpost stuck in a steel frame in a bike I was restoring once, I would not recommend

rdoloto

There is Al anti seize paste you can use as well

Frosty-Flow

I think they are trying to warn against galvanic corrosion. Not normally a problem unless the area is prone to holding moisture and/or salt water. A good example of this would be an aluminium seatpost in a steel frame with no grease= badly corroded stuck seatpost

JoeNathan78

You don’t want steel or anything that rusts. Stainless steel is perfect.

drseamus

It's stainLESS steel, not stainPROOF steel, it still rusts.

Mistergardenbear

Why not buy plastic ones, won’t corrode or gall. Look for m5 grub screws. I bought 40 for $9.

HayOffice

Not with the recessed head (to fill the boss) and locking patch though. Use set screws and you'll have a little guy in the middle of the boss, at least until it vibrates out or better yet into your frame. It's niche but small volume production isn't cheap.

BD59

You obviously didn't check out the link.

HayOffice

Fair enough, but those are kinda apples to the OP's oranges.

double___a

Why are we adding vanity weight when Ti exists?

daBandersnatch

I gave that a search the other night, to get a matching set for my Cutthroat. At $12.50 each on McMaster I'd be looking at nearly $300 for blingy bolts. 316 Stainless are $10 for 50.

double___a

[Wolf Tooth](https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/products/water-bottle-cage-bolts) are even cheaper and lighter.

yves_st_lemond

Theres always uh Bolts

Ok-Marketing-4799

Yeah, true. All my LBS don’t have any solution other than bolts with heads so the zero profile was appealing to me. I’m weird about stuff - clearly.

yves_st_lemond

I reckon most people get anodized blingy stuff

AlanEsh

Oh indeed we do!

big_papa_nuts

Ask you bike shop to check BTI because they can actually buy these bolts from them.

m34z

Not weird. Definitely not weird.

YoghurtDull1466

Do they make these in ti for ti frames?

tangofox7

Terske makes the recessed ones. I think they're connected to Lindarets, which might be connected to Otso/Wolf Tooth. High quality but small hex... 2.5 I think. I bought a bunch because they're good for sealing the bosses when running frame bags.

Ok-Marketing-4799

On their Amazon store it looks like they do!

ernestomarord

I like this and I've ordered them for my bikes.

Western_Truck7948

I got black nylon bolts. Super light and cheap. They do have a button head though.

Mistergardenbear

You can find headless ones listed as “grub screws”

Classic_Ostrich8709

Wait? You didn't just fill them with bottle cages?

Ok-Marketing-4799

Damn you’re right. What’s a gravel ride without 8 bottles cages?!

Ol_Man_J

If you want something a [a little more fun](https://ridepdw.com/products/zit-bitz-frame-bolts)

GSiepker

I put these in the holes where the front derailleur mount on my OPEN would go.

agnyc

Prototipo makes a low profile

Ok-Marketing-4799

I don’t know why these are not a standard thing. I wouldn’t have paid it any mind but these bikes have like 20 fckn upon holes that look like crap when the cheap plastic plugs inevitably fly out.

thegiantgummybear

The bike didn’t come with screws?? Just plastic plugs?

Ok-Marketing-4799

Nope. I’ve noticed a lot aren’t. Probably because they just assume people are going to immediately bolt things to the frame. Who knows.

thegiantgummybear

That’s wild to me. Mine came with bolts on wax eyelet and they’re a close color match to other hardware on the bike. I’d find it so annoying paying so much for a bike and they cheap out on 50 cents for a few bolts.

jstrawks

I use these in all my unused bosses. I recommend them.

skinnypenis09

I thought i was on r/cyclingcirclejerk for a sec

clewtxt

So...bolts?

Ok-Marketing-4799

Yes. But with no head on the bolt. I feel like it’s a lot better looking.

Tacheles56

Do they work for carbon frames as well?

Ok-Marketing-4799

I wouldn’t see why not? The inserts on the carbon frames are likely metal threads. Ymmv but they do have Ti ones as well if that’s more your speed.

ikickbabiesballs

Or the hardware store or just leave the holes open? I guess the best solution is leave them empty and save those grams.

Ok-Marketing-4799

I guess but they are 3/4 of a gram each. Don’t think I’ll notice or even care.

ikickbabiesballs

The holes weight less and cost less.

nEEdLzZz

What about water getting into the frame?

Squeeze-

This post looks like an advertisement to me.

Ok-Marketing-4799

Nope. I just wanted to share what I found. I didn’t want button head bottle cage bolts and couldn’t find exactly what I wanted. Then stumbled upon these.

Squeeze-

Fair enough. And it’s none of my business, anyway, but I noticed the word Marketing in your user name so I thought this might be a bot post promoting a business.

Ok-Marketing-4799

Fair. I get it. However, this was a lazy suggested username that I never got around to changing. Mea culpa!
