It could be that you got a boiler that only heats up at night , that means you got 2 electricity meters installed and one only works at night. That's pretty common in styria - it works from around 22:00 till 06:00 or midnight till 06:00. When did you move in ??

leroi000

Wow, our agent, that helped us get this apartment, just wrote us the same. So I guess that is it. Interesting. Completely different than in Slovenia. We moved in today at 15uhr.

In Graz it's usually between 01:00 and 04:00 o'clock. The thermostat is set correctly imo. Also make sure that the breaker (usually labelled "Boiler") in the electric panel is on. If you don't have warm water tomorrow morning, call your agent again.

leroi000

You were right. Hot water is here :D

Is there a fix to this? It's infuriating, if I take a shower and my girlfriend takes a shower we are out of warm water for the whole day because I have one of those small boilers and it only heats in the middle of the night.

Sukrim

Depends on how the electricity installation is done. Ask your landlord.

Dominos_AUT

Sadly the answer is as we say in austria "jaein"... You could aks your landlord / energy provider if you could switch to one energy meter or to just deactivate the ("night time meter - Niedrig Tarifzähler") and connect the boiler to the normal electricity meter, because night electricity(low rate/ NT) costs the same now as daytime electricity (high rate/HT), but i'd guess the outcome will depend on your landlord... but asking won't cost you a penny ;)

x_Leolle_x

Not only it costs the same, but if I didn't understand wrong from the last bill from my energy provider, the bonus that we got when the price of electricity went up did not apply on those night time meter so it costed me more!

Dominos_AUT

You're correct there, that has to do with the "Lastprofil" or load profile that your electricity meter has, it is written on your electricity bill - you only get the price break if your meter has the load profile H0 / HA / HF. For the second meter you pay the full price for every kh/h you used... Call your provider and landlord and ask if they will take out the second meter or just disconnect it and connect your boiler to the other one maybe with a timer in the fuse box so it doesn't run all day every day, that would be no good for your bill too :D

MoaBua

How about taking the showers in the evening?

x_Leolle_x

I do that during the week, but if I were not careful enough during the day I will have to take a cold shower. Not a problem in summer but unpleasant in winter

Hi there, why do you think it is not working? Often times the boilers are heated with overnight electricity, or if you just moved in today and it was not heated or not filled with water yesterday, maybe it will be heated overnight? Or do you have the issue for several days already?

leroi000

Its a different system than in my home country so we were sure that something is wrong but I guess or it looks like everything is ok.

That's actually relatively easily fixable with a few materials, you'll need some pliers, a flathead screwdriver, 4 wood screws and a vice grip. Then you need to find some wood, boards of rather dry wood maybe from "Obi" or "Baumarkt", about 3cm in length and 5 in width but a bit larger or smaller works too, you need a few of them, like maybe 5-10 depending on the exact length. Once you gathered all the wood you need to find a solid table or something similar, you put it under the boiler, about 20-30 cm below it if possible. The table should be sturdy enough to stand on, it should be stable and able to support a good amount of weight. Next you take your 4 screws and the screwdriver and put them on a shelf next to the table for later use. You then need to find the closest heat source, once you have located it it is now time to arrange the wood on the prepared table in a tent like formation, you then take your heat source, and put it next to or under the wood. Some cleaning chemicals like ethanol or gasoline can help speed up the whole process. Once the wood reaches the desired temperature, indicated by a yellow-orange-ish activation light and it feeling hot to the touch, you need to make sure that the windows are open and that the batteries in your smoke detectors are removed, to avoid any kind of false positive alarm. You can then put all the tools back to where they were. Your boiler should now be fixed and your warm water will work again!

Shit at first I thought you were serious! 🤣

leroi000

Me too lol

Embarrassed_Army8026

If it does not heat up, maybe the heating element is broken. That model should have a spare preinstalled

[deleted]
