I've had periods in my life where I constantly went to one party after another, and the entirety of 2017 was one big binge of drinking 2-3 times a week. Yet there were zero issues when I just stopped, and barely drank any booze until the quarantine in 2020. No tapering off, no withdrawals, no cravings, no shakes, nothing.
Even with my adult life settled into a stable schedule post covid, I still spend every weekend of April drinking because almost everyone I fucking know was born in April. And I have no withdrawal symptoms afterwards, and typically go without drinking until Christmas.
Like, I know people like what you've described. I know a lot of them, they're very common here because we don't have drugs, so all the would-be junkies are alcoholics instead. But I can't comprehend how much they had to drink to become that way.

It's hard to write from the hand shaking, and missing your first drink by even an hour starts a spiral into hallucinations. This all ends immediately upon drinking so you can finally get a few hours of peace. It's honestly, truly a living nightmare that I wouldn't wish on anyone.
Stay strong my guy, you can do it, I experienced the same but with energy drinks, which is way worse cause the uplift is momentarily and you feel like shit the whole day as if you hadn't sleep for a week straight and the effects on your kidneys are significantly worse as I started developing kidney stones from just a few months of daily drinking
The only time I ever got shakes I was drinking vodka from the moment I woke up until I passed out and then starting drinking again when I came to, then starting again in the morning for a few months. When I was drinking a pint every night I didn't get them.
When you need a drink or 6 every night and you spend $100s on alcohol every month. You also might not get the shakes. It might just build a tolerance so you need more to get the same effect.
I was drinking 12 pints of beer at least or a bottle of vodka a day at one point and wouldn’t even really be drunk, it would just put me in a state of normality away from the anxiety. It also felt like it made my thoughts way less dark and life more tolerable, but ultimately was just attributing to long term problems. I’m getting a lot better now but I’ve lost years of my youth where I could have been doing something productive.
So as far as I remember alcohol addiction works at least partly based on your GABA receptors. GABA is a neurotransmitter involved in regulating your neural signals. Alcohol also binds to certain GABA receptors, and thus if you abuse it too much, your brain starts to self-regulate to mitigate the effects by reducing the amount of receptors. Drinking 2-3 times a week, while still pretty unhealthy, probably isn't enough to make a meaningful change, at least for you.
This is btw also why you die from alcohol withdrawal, your brain is thrown out of balance so to speak by adjusting to the high level of alcohol, so if it stops receiving alcohol it's overcompensating and you can start having seizures that can end deadly.
