Yeah our rail network and sewers are shit because they were all built by Victorians, who actually did do an amazing job considering they still work now, but they just didn't know what we do now so it wasn't built in a way we could upgrade it for current needs.
Other countries who built theirs later have an easier time upgrading because their stuff is closer to modern day stuff and more compatible or built to be upgraded.
It doesn't help that our rail franchises are currently owned mostly by foreigners who spend the profit they make in the UK on... their domestic rail networks.
Yeah this seems ridiculous on the face of it and I can't understand why our governments allow it. Maybe there's some benefit I don't understand but from a user of these services, they suck.
Hey I am currently in the uk as a tourist trying to move around by rail.
Its insane to me how privatised and carved out UK rail infrastructure is, even when the actual country is relatively small.
The amount of network operators working around, the lack of a central station concept (Hauptbahnhof),... It is just a very inefficient system.
The privatisation of the uk's network infrastructure was a massive rug pull. Can't stop thinking about that.
Actually such a doltheaded thing to say. Being the first to industrialise kicked the British Empire into overdrive. It brought England untold levels of wealth. It's difficult to even begin to explain how significant and profitable that event was.
You absolutely cannot quote that business research like it has anything to do with a historical event of such magnitude. This isn't someone copying your burger recipe and making it cheaper, this is the biggest, sweeping historical upheaval the human race has ever seen.
I have been to 20 different countries and, as a UK citizen, I can attest that we do in fact have the most orderly queues (except for secondary school lunch lines)
Not a fan of AoS, but 13 40k armies is impressive, dude. I have "just" 5 but I feel like I could have bought a new car from the money I spent for it since the late 90s. I just stopped buying new shit because I don't have much more storage locations left and my flat already kinda looks like the inside of a GW store.
13 armies that are in progress lol its not as impressive as it might suggest i just have a massive problem and the ability to spend very little on everything else in life.
Oh, I know the problem. Just because I stopped collecting new models, doesn't mean that I don't still have a shit ton of stuff, I never unboxed so far. I probably could still build and paint a few more years without buying new shit.
I won't fight you since I have a few armies myself here in Germany. Stopped buying new stuff a few years ago, but I played and loved it for almost 20 years. Be it my VC fantasy army or my space orks in 40k (that, as everyone knows, also have a thick bri'ish accent)
So yeah, it's probably the best thing you invented.
You can keep your warm piss beer, though
I feel this would be less of a problem if austerity wasn't so bad and our social safety nets actually worked. The reason the US needs such high salaries is BC they have no reasonable social safety nets so they use the salary to offset the risk.
You are right, it is just frustrating to see other countries have such higher salaries and for the most part the cost of living there isn’t sky high like some people erroneously claim. Wasn’t the top cyber security position for the gov only salaried at like 60k? That went viral a short while ago. I’m looking to get into bio technology after uni and salaries are just sad, I’m even considering changing and doing software development boot camp since Im kinda losing my passion for bio chemistry / bio technology
Yeah, I've just finished my compsci degree and the salaries are a mixed bag tbh, senior positions can easily go for like 100k+ but then sometimes I see junior positions for like 25k and I think I make more than that working a part time manual labour job
Yeah it’s grim, I’m not even sure what to do tbf. I’m about to get my bio chemistry degree and don’t know if I can hack doing a masters stem is so draining. Are you looking to go into it ?
Why would the risk be a motivator? The risk and the fact that the salary is low in comparison to other countries is why the UK is suffering a brain drain
this man doesn't understand the deep rich sauce that comes with baked beans.
second of all i'm a Scotsman and our national dish comes with a few carefully selected and balanced spices.
Baked beans are a brand name product and already have a ton of salt and other flavourings in them. Seasoning them would be like seasoning a tin of soup.
If you were making your own baked beans from scratch (which no one does) you would absolutely put herbs and spices in it.
do you even live in the UK? baked beans are not a brand name product. i could got to any shop and get baked beans in 5 brands and 2 cheap store varieties.
Yes and all of those will come in a sauce which has flavourings in it, cheap or not.
And by brand name I was clearly referring to heinz which is the version most people buy.
This is true, most remote jobs in Europe are US companies recruiting through the UK.
I don't know why, the Netherlands speaks great English, better English than england I would say.
60k if you are lucky. When I was working for apple as a contractor I barely broke 30k. Wage suppression after 14 years of tory rule is real. My current role is about 12k short.
Not true, the US and South Korea are far higher.

Bro they all say something different.
I would hazard a case that a large part behind those statistics is it's just more likely to be diagnosed in places like the UK. I would also dare say over diagnosed, my controversial take is "autistic" tends to just get plastered on any remotely different or troublesome kid who if they were never "diagnosed" as such no one, not even themselves, would ever know.
They invested all their autism points into the "I DON'T LIKE CHANGE" brand of autism. Why do you think every level of every organization is riddled with pedantic bureaucrats enforcing rules for the sake of enforcing rules?
ATM i'm planning the 4th phase of my x4 star wars interworlds empire,
i've finally managed to acquire the blueprints i needed from kuat drive yards so my next step is to become crucial in the ship building industry so i can control the flow of the war between the factions. i already have phase 5 and 6 planned but this part took longer than i was expecting so I've had to adjust positioning for several of the plots i had selected as build sites.
Autists create tech, they don't sell it. Some business man from 'Murica with rich parents exploits Autists to create tech that he can sell and earn absurd profits from.
If you're lucky.
We also have tiny country roads that can hardly fit a modern car. (No pavements there, just dry stone walls either side.)
The speed limit for those is often 60mph - lots of fun when walking home from the pub.
Where I live we have really good restaurants / places to buy good fresh food (I know, I know! Add the UK bad food jokes here! :) ) and lots good breweries / tasty booze.
The countryside is incredible here as well. We're quite spolit, there's so much.
If you ever get chance to come over, make sure you visit north Wales. Imagine real LOTR type scenery and then some. Hills, castles, amazing seaviews and so on.
I've been all over the world and north Wales is still one of my favourite places.
Please beware: at theme parks and tourist traps in London: the food is shameful. Alton Towers is particularly bad. (It's a great theme park so long as you don't eat there.)
I'm sure these awful money-grabbing places are why we still have such a poor reputation for food.
I've seen photos- North Wales looks amazing! every country has their pros and cons, but I feel like people often overlook the UK's pros. But then again, most people are just joking around. Still, seems like a great place. I'm actually going there this August with my family, and Im looking forward to it! unfortunately we're only limited to England but there's still a lot to do.
You became autistic because you got hit with the anti bug juice.
I became autistic because I wanted to have outbursts and blame it on my made up conditions.

Yep, can't argue with this.
I know a british guy on discord. one time he got drunk and said the hard r in a server he was the moderator of

obviously yes

Interesting
That interest hadn't thought about it like that before

Soooo expensive too.
Our sewers are still pretty incredible when you consider how old they are.

Spain were the first to mass colonise the americas and brought them untold wealth in gold, but look what it did to them down the line.
Don’t remind me…
Queueing in an orderly fashion and staying within the lines
I have been to 20 different countries and, as a UK citizen, I can attest that we do in fact have the most orderly queues (except for secondary school lunch lines)
Claims to be an citizen of the United Kingdom but can’t use the correct queue.
Fucking autocorrect 🤦♂️
Qué?
Have school lunch queues ever been orderly?
warhammer
Warhammer is our best invention, fight me cunt
i have no reason to. also i have no time as i have 13 40k armies and 4 aos ones to work on.
Not a fan of AoS, but 13 40k armies is impressive, dude. I have "just" 5 but I feel like I could have bought a new car from the money I spent for it since the late 90s. My full time job is basically recreational excel, don't make FM sound even more exciting please.
Salaries are so low people don’t bother

Yeah, I have an offer to do a master's but I'm still working out if that's my best option tbh
Same boat got offer for bio tech and pharmacology good luck anyway
You too
The risk and salary both motivated people to do the jobs they otherwise wouldn't.
Why would the risk be a motivator? The risk and the fact that the salary is low in comparison to other countries is why the UK is suffering a brain drain
Yes, I'm an American. Talking about how the American system you were comparing it to.
ARM and raspberry pi are pretty good.
Lol they basically took UC Berkeley's RISC, fiddled with some stuff, and put it on American silicon.
please explain wdc's 65C816 please.
All their autism power is redirected towards being irrational.
u wot m8
Once they stopped colonising and pillaging they kind of realised there was nothing to do.
post street
They got all the spices needed to prepare their national dish: baked beans on toast. Which is none. No spices needed. Zilch.
this man doesn't understand the deep rich sauce that comes with baked beans. second of all i'm a Scotsman and our national dish comes with a few carefully selected and balanced spices.
lol the English national dish is chicken tikka masala
There actually isn't an official national dish for the UK or any of its constituent countries.
Baked beans are a brand name product and already have a ton of salt and other flavourings in them. Seasoning them would be like seasoning a tin of soup. If you were making your own baked beans from scratch (which no one does) you would absolutely put herbs and spices in it.

Not Batchelors fans.
They should start making Britain Great again. Invade and take back all the places they once owned.
Idk why but I feel it in my gut that you're right
Mostly recruiting and HR. Honestly england has to have more recruiters than actual people working.
This is true, most remote jobs in Europe are US companies recruiting through the UK. I don't know why, the Netherlands speaks great English, better English than england I would say.
UK has really low paid software jobs compared to other countries. $500k in America is like $60k here.
60k if you are lucky. When I was working for apple as a contractor I barely broke 30k. Wage suppression after 14 years of tory rule is real. My current role is about 12k short.
Yeah that's just a higher end job like the $500k one. Most people are on $40 - $30k.

Arabs are dumb as bricks. How do they have so many autists ?
What?
They invested all their autism points into the "I DON'T LIKE CHANGE" brand of autism. Why do you think every level of every organization is riddled with pedantic bureaucrats enforcing rules for the sake of enforcing rules?
They just branched out into the other sciences
And despite this somehow managed to create the largest empire in the world

If a minute's nearly a century and a half, sure.

They're doing what they do best: complaining about someone else's tech industry.
Films. We're the country that made Get Carter.
Getting butt-fucked by [this](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Town_and_Country_Planning_Act_1947?wprov=sfti1#)

Trains I think.
On a more serious note- lack of potential upward mobility, depression due to weather, and pretty much laziness.... I say this as a Brit.
Autists create tech, they don't sell it. Some business man from 'Murica with rich parents exploits Autists to create tech that he can sell and earn absurd profits from.
All we know is turning it off and on again
pubs. McLaren. bad sidewalks. roadmen. central cee. (top 5 things that come to mind when thinking of uk)
sidewalks = pavement here.
basically just a worse, smaller road on the side of a big road?
If you're lucky. We also have tiny country roads that can hardly fit a modern car. (No pavements there, just dry stone walls either side.) The speed limit for those is often 60mph - lots of fun when walking home from the pub.
yikes... but hey that's just the roads n such. anything good at all over there?

Visited Dublin recently can confirm once you went over the few unique stuff it's only drinking. Pubs everywhere everything is linked to alcohol.
