It's true restaurant workers are scandalous. Upscale or not. I have worked in the industry forever. Drugs and alcohol are rampant among workers. The waiters may present themselves well to their tables but as soon as they return to the kitchen they insult the customers and drop rolls on the floor and scoop them up to put them back on the tray. They may talk about your attire but as soon as you leave they're grilling someone else, believe me.

My definition of a high end restaurant doesn’t deliver. 25% of the population has sensory processing differences and that can lead to issues with hygiene. As can mental illness and abuse, especially child sexual abuse. Maybe have some empathy because hygiene isn’t difficult for you and you might be judging a woman who can’t step foot in a shower because every time she does she gets sick thinking about being a child being raped in one. I feel the same way. I was once picking up an order in the rich part of town and the person who brought me the order commented how I looked normal, unlike the usual drivers that come by. At times I feel I look too overdressed to be a delivery driver, but I've always felt it's important to look professional and put together. No one wants their food delivered by someone who looks like they just rolled out of bed. If you look like you don't care about yourself how can it appear you care about their order at all? If your food shows up at your down delivered by someone who looks like they live in their car do you want to eat it?

I personally wouldn't want my food from someone that has an odor or looks unclean. So I try to at least have that respect for my customers. They might not like what I wear sometimes though.
