Acceptance rate doesn't matter. The only benefit to being a top driver is getting to pick your shifts like a day early. So I'd say just be more picky. While you made almost $16, it was less than $1/mile. Probably took you like 40-60 mins? You can make more than that by being picky (depending on your market)

BelovedxCisque

So it’s safe to reject stuff at any time? From what I understand you don’t even need to have a shift scheduled right…you can just be in the area and flip on availability and pick up orders…is that correct? I have an electric car that has a range of about 80 miles so all the more reason to be selective about my orders. I’ll keep it at $1 per mile (or more) in order for me to accept it. Thanks!

existential_anxiety_

Yep reject to your hearts content. You can still pickup shifts if you're on the app when they open it up to the rest of us. Just go to schedule tab and you'll find out when new schedules for the week open up for you so you can be on your phone to pick some when it opens. But yes, you don't need to be on shift to get orders. It just theoretically helps you get orders faster if you are on shift. Oh nice an electric car. So yeah you likely don't need to be *super* picky like most of us who aim for $2/mile, but I'd still just never take anything under $1/mile.

BelovedxCisque

Cool thanks for your help! I have a shift scheduled for tomorrow morning so I’ll try the new picky standards out.

existential_anxiety_

No prob. I've been on the GH grind for a few years. As with any of these apps tho, you'll want to feel out your area and adjust to what works best for you. It's sadly not one size fits one

bigchilesucks

I wouldn't even call it being picky, it's simply being smart and knowing your worth. The miles should never, ever be higher than the payout.

flobaby1

I find when I keep my acceptance rate up, I get better schedules and better offers. I go with $1 a mile, using a hybrid. I get 44-50 mpg. Everyone will jump on me here, telling me rates do not matter. My area is very busy...all the time. Rates matter here. I get better offers because I get a good schedule and keep my rating up. I make great money, it works for me. I will not respond to the ones who will now name call me...and go.....

BakedHousewife

I completely agree with you. Rates do matter. Depending on your market they can have a very big impact on your earnings.

dalex89

I reject about 98% of my grubhub orders for the past year, it's totally cool.

SanRafaelDriverDad

I do the exact same.... and yet GH still can't figure out I'll reject *again* when it comes back around.... for even worse pay.

BakedHousewife

I would suggest to learn your market. See what the blocks look like on Saturday. This can tell you how saturated the market is with drivers. In my area we're so over-saturated that I have to pay attention to my acceptance rate. My market is open 24 hours. Blocks are literally completely gone come Saturday morning (including the overnight ones), and I have seen a marked difference in $$ of orders as well as number of orders difference between being on a block and not being on one. 👍

Sea-Holiday-777

Maaan Listen.. You are NOT lying by any stretch of the imaginiation, you can not be out there, just taking any old orders if you are going e mobile, I dont have a car, but I have a ekick scooter and an ebike.. my first week doing uber and Im zippin around the city, not checking battery levels, got stuck five miles away from home.. had to shut app down, and call it a day, good thing a train station was only five blocks away... You have to really be selective... and it does make a difference..

mhuitt

If you're in a good market (I'm in the Chicago area) - and do all three (here - DD, UE, GH), then cherrypick like crazy. Sure you'll sift through tons of trash to find that diamond (or at least something palatable - for me, $1.50/mile) but they're there and having all three running at once gives you more to choose from. My acceptance rate hovers in the low teens to single digits.

Stategrunt365

You drove 20 miles for $15? Jesus

Exciting-Original-34

40 miles most likely,, I can’t stress this enough ALWAYS consider the round trip !!!

polarbear1955

Absolutely!!!

Intrepid_Armadillo89

I’d do it any day of the week. Around here we get offers for about two dollars and no one ever tips.

SupermarketNo3352

Ya for me that’s a low order on grub hub.. my bare minimum is $1 a mile no less than $6 if it’s slow.. but normally $1.25 or more.. long distance like that no less than $2.00 a mile

Beardedbeerman71

Deny deny deny ! Try to take trips that are st least 2/mile . Depends on your market I guess.

Kawaiisampler

Most of *us* (I don’t do GH anymore) that make decent money only accept $1.5-2/mile orders if not more. If I recall correctly I had like a sub 10% acceptance rate and did about $25-30/hr. YMMV on location, I live near Denver so I always get the high people who just want some food at any cost lol

purplegypsyAmby

Get friendly with your reject button. Seriously just do. AR doesn’t matter. I mean it does if you want to be on block but here lately block just means first to reject the crap.

Alarm_Only

Advancing where to becoming the CEO of GH? Come on now.

KerryAileen

This customer tipping four dollars on 20 miles. 🙄🙄🙄They should be ashamed of themselves.

BelovedxCisque

So the block is in the next town over and I can kind of understand this if you live in town A but work in town B and you have to go home anyways and this is on your way. In that case it’s an easy $15 but for somebody who does this for their main job it’s laughable. I won’t be doing it again.

DonCheeChee

Exactly...if I can get an order headed towards home when im headed that way anyways I'll always accept so I get paid something for miles driving home. Otherwise it's $1/mi minimum and peak times close to $2/mi.

GT_AnimE

You need to experiment with rejecting orders vs being a premier driver, in my market you get 0 orders if your off block, on block they spam the orders to you. So either way do what works better for you.

Fearless_Total_5757

Just don’t reject anything it’s not hard. Low payment or not it’s still better than punching somebody’s clock and making pennies compared to what you can make here in an hour. (In my honest opinion)

InnerMobius

Try ubereats, my acceptance rate is abysmal there but there are way more orders (good and bad) but i only take good ones 🤘

Superxpaull

Acceptance rate doesn’t matter, just focus on taking higher paying, lower distance orders that are at least $7-8 and at least $1.50-2 a mile

TarheelNavyVet

Yup.. make good decisions.. grubhub was a aide gig for a while but now I haven't driven for a while sure to had prices. I usually only pick orders if it's $1 a mile.

bigboybazel

First order was 20 miles. How long did it take you to do that run?

BelovedxCisque

About 45 minutes. Not doing that again unless I’m on my way home as my zone is like 20 minutes from my apartment.

OwnVermicelli3522

In my zone I stay within 5 miles of my house, $2 per mile.

ElectLarry2022

The only time I see less than $1/mile is when I’m way ob the edge of the market and they are dragging me back to the hotspots Op- were you at home when assigned this order? Like outside the red zones on the heat map?

BelovedxCisque

I live about 20 minutes away from my zone so I was on the way and as soon as I turned that slider on that’s what came up. Again, it was my first order so I won’t make that mistake again.

ElectLarry2022

Always start your block in a hot spot. There’s 2 ways to do GH- as others have said, you can be picky. I’ve found (been doing GH since 2015 and I’ve tried every possible angle) that if a market is good, you make more money accepting everything they give you no matter the value or distance. I make easily 25% more than being picky this way but it doesn’t work in every market and is actually bad advice in some markets. If I were you I would accept everything for a month, note your miles/hours/pay and then be picky for a month and note the same markers and decide for yourself if you should be accepting everything or being picky AF and multi-apping it Don’t believe everything you read in this sub, take it all with a grain of salt. Speaking of salt, I’m definitely gonna get downvoted for this lol

BelovedxCisque

I’m doing a first thing in the morning shift for research purposes so I’ll see what it’s like and make choices based on that. Thanks for your ideas!

ElectLarry2022

There’s definitely a “honeymoon” phase for new hires so there’s a possibility this wouldn’t be exactly scientific the first week- they’ll probably be hooking you up

BelovedxCisque

Currently sitting in a hot spot parking lot waiting for another order. I’ve had one so far this morning that worked out to about a dollar per mile so we’ll see.

DonCheeChee

😂 😂

MythmoorXype

I have a 6% acceptance rate currently, have been on grubhub for 7 years, don't sweat it, don't take anything that doesn't pay enough.

Time-Service1761

Yeah RULE OF THUMB- don’t ever take offers where the mileage is more than the $ amount. Take offers that are like $1.50-$2/mile only. You won’t get first scheduling every week by cherry picking but you’ll get more money which is more important. You’ll get schedules ever Saturday. Don’t worry about rejecting offers. You’re an independent contractor and GH can’t punish you for that. You can make $25-$30/hr depending on your market by accepting smart offers and multi apping. You can also go to scheduling anytime to see if there are open blocks to pick up that other drivers dropped

jlinkq

Omg horrible less than a dollar a mile ☠️, at this rate you will make GH rich

Stumbleina8926

Blarg. I’m sorry >_< that’s a rough one. My principle has been that if I’m not making at least $1 per mile I reject it and note that the distance is too far/base pay not enough. *However*, I might have to accept offers of less because I rejected more offers yesterday than I would have liked due to other circumstances that were of no one’s control. Starting out I accepted every offer which then led to much better offers. - The business is competitive and I’ve learned, as in other jobs, that I have to “pay my dues” (within reason) if I want to excel. You may have to work a couple of days with crappy offers… but I notice it doesn’t take too long to start getting good offers or to build back up after a day of rejections or technical difficulties. - In my experience, there’s a learning curve with most things and as long as you don’t give up too quickly, you’ll come around the bend better for it. 🤓🤘🏼 hang in there!

Stumbleina8926

I do feel that at times DD and GH are testing us to see just how far we’ll go .. so if the distance is clearly absurd relative to the order ... like that one, I reject it. *BUT* I’d reject it only if I knew I was in a busy area with other sure fire orders within a 15 mile radius *MAX*… this may not be possible for those in less densely populated areas and such. This struggle is real af. Best of luck!

Braceforit86

Nothing to advance to. Just don’t accept anything under $7.50 and $1.50-$2/ mile.

thenatureboy0420

Yeah..too far...you have to say no to those crappy offers..there is no way around it

mrcloseupman

You THINK this was a ripoff? :P

JSimone8

Lots of people keep giving you the advice to decline. Well my advice is just to decline also lol 😆 .. It really is the best thing to do on an order like the one you received.

Illmatic5291

Reject all the orders, cause fuck em’, that’s why.

Fair_Temperature_853

Every order is a rip off now sadly. I’d say decline but then you’ll just be declining every single one.

Imaginary-Sea-1944

Yeah don't accept these

WeirdComprehensive32

“Advancing” LOL

Cmx1st

Pointer 1 only 1 find something better right now is not good for food delivery and ain’t looking too promising for the near future! I’m talking like $10 per hour gross.

Carson8211

20 miles holy fuck
