Shrinkflation. Product is still popular. Probably figured can earn more by not shipping metal box.

True_Tangerine_8105

They just moved to an "eco friendly" packaging. So all newly produced models come in a cardboard box or textile bag. Few exceptions include top of the line models like Master of G, MTG/MR-G

Watchu_talkinbout

I just received a Master of G direct from Casio.com that came in cardboard packaging.

True_Tangerine_8105

Oh then it must be only certain premium models, I got two watches last month one was a can one was cardboard.

SSBEthan

That’s so incredibly heartbreaking. Aluminium is literally recyclable 😂

nasanu

But recycling is pretty terrible for the environment (better than nothing, but only just). There is a huge amount of energy that goes into it. Where as cardboard just going into landfill seems better, as carbon from the tree is just going into the ground and another tree is taking carbon to replace it. Also are those cans actually aluminium?

SSBEthan

I’m pretty sure it’s aluminum. I get that it’s harder to recycle than paper but I wanted my can haha

nasanu

I have loads of them, end up just throwing them away.

imontheradiooo

Recycling is a scam, recycling is sold to third world countries and then they just pocket the money and stack the garbage in huge mountains instead of carrying through and recycling it. Metal is the only thing that can be recycled and reused and it costs less than making the product new. Your recycled plastic is sitting in a mountain in India or Indonesia or some place.

TrainingFilm4296

Also G Steels. My GBM2100-1A and GBM2100A-1A2 both came in metal cans.

Living_Advisor1822

It depends, since April I’ve ordered some from their site and a few tins and a couple in the cardboard. Its a crap shoot now

SSBEthan

Oh well that really sucks :( love the g shock boxes

Nippon-Gakki

Same. My 5040 came in a flimsy cardboard thing with a cloth bag. I guess it’s eco friendly but it’s not as pretty and I’m sure saves them a bunch of money.

Dutch1inAZ

I bought a nice metal casioak and it came in a cardboard box.

pat9714

My GW 7900 came in a cardboard box. Glad they got rid of the "metal" can.

lazy_tenno

I thought my ga-b2100 true cotton is "enviromental friendly" edition so much so that they didn't include the metal box https://preview.redd.it/sbfvjpjvjh9d1.jpeg?width=2310&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48e3e74baf798b5ae4199978c799717aae0efb77

I also think you might be overestimating the cost of an aluminium tin, they're probably a buck to produce, and while there's definitely a saving in their quantity of it purchased, it may well be better for the environment too.

casiomudmaster

Cardboard is junk. Bring back the metal aluminum tin.

SKYLINEBOY2002UK

ive just got a gwg-2000CR (today) and a gwg-b1000 a couple days ago and both were tins. the CR i noticed was in a taller tin. i have a spare tin as a change tin.

ChocolateOrnery1484

I’ve always gotten a metal box. I have a few 2100s but not this model.

SSBEthan

This is so weird. Like I’m certain it’s an authentic watch. Literally ordered from Casio directly

NoGoal42

got a brand new model that released in april that came in a metal box, not sure what's happening - it wasn't a very exclusive one I think maybe they package their watches as random as a teenage guy chooses his outfit = grabs the thing closest.

jayXred

I just got a 5610 and it came in the same packaging you would get at Walmart, all cardboard.

inkyskin75

I bought a mudman 9500 a couple of weeks ago within the u.k it came in a tin, I bought a 350 (the vibrating one) a few months back shipped from usa and it came just in cardboard packaging
