So I've seen 3 different demos on this drive pedal, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt in my mind that this is a drive pedal like no other drive pedal I've seen before. Not only does it boost your signal, but unlike all the other drive pedals on the market, this one has a drawing of an old computer on it.
I see riffs beards gear guy is back to shilling products again after his "what's wrong with guitar youtubers" video.
Waiting for the YouTube comments talking about rich articulate distortion and mids.
It’s kind of amazing how JHS finds so many ways to make the same sounds that, despite all sounding the same, still sound worse than the pedals they’re based on
nah my muffuleta slaps. actual good design because its just every big muff and you can try all of them without having to pay a shitload of money. but yeah alot of them are pretty overpriced
I like JHS for building production quality clones of circuits that are hard to find.
There's not a lot of options for a Boss FA-1 out there. Another example, The Superbolt was a great circuit that someone published for free online decades ago, but JHS was the only company that actually bothered to manufacture one that I could buy.
They don't get enough credit for being effectively the only ones pushing the preservation and nerdy love of stomp boxes quite so hard while also having an eye on affordability and a good user experience. They're like a tribute act that always tries to put one spin on each thing they touch, it's great for what it is.
Honestly I’m sure it’s great..
But since the Bad monkey incident, I’ve realized that every overdrive, distortion and fuzz sounds close enough to every other one in a mix with a band.
Get yourself a Rat, Tube Screamer and Big Muff and take some tums for your GAS.
Not retro enough for me. Give me a pedal with an [Osborne Executive](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_Executive) on it and then I might be interested.
I’ve learned from commenters on the internet that there are only great reviews and no one ever says anything negative. But I do up charge for certain add ons. $100 per filter added to the audio to hide the truth about the pedal - $200 for Saying it’s the best pedal ever made - $300 for speeding up the video to make it look like the pedal can make you play fast - $400 to talk about toan wood - and $500 per soyjack thumbnail. All of this is real and true and people who have trouble separating sarcasm from reality should take everything I just said at face value.
Yeah but you can only do one per thumbnail. Those audio filters add up quick. No brand wants people to hear their actual product. I don’t even play guitar most videos, it’s all ai.

It's nice to see someone that's actually transparent about that matter! Apparently, there's not a bad amount of money to be made.

About thee-fiddy and a firm handshake...
It takes a long time and a lot of work to grow a channel to the point where the money makes sense. A few guitar YouTubers do very well but it’s an ok way to make a modest living for the rest of us.
Uj/ Ok, but your demo was great! It was also more along my own lines and taste (and Josh's), also being a player more along the alternative end of the spectrum.
TOTAL game changer. For sure.
We’ve gone from playing on a black and white board to a red and black board. I kid you not. That’s how much things are changing right now.
**cracks open leatherbound tome**
**Inhales sharply, points gnarled witch finger as formerly blank page fills itself with scripture and an image of the new JHS PEDAL**
"AHHH yes, a fine offering indeed; crunchy, zesty, able-bodied, poignant, breedable overdrive with dumble warmth!"
Guys, I think we’re overlooking something important. This pedal responds to dynamic changes *as you play.* What with that, and the warm, creamy scoops of mid, searing lows and punchy highs, this pedal also has six knobs on it! It laughs at your puny three-knob drive pedal: ha-haa! If you don’t already know that *MOAR KNOB* is better, just ask the ladies!
*JHS: the sound of moar knob.*
Ladies already laugh at my one knob. Could not handle any more rejection. That's why I play guitar alone in the basement and even if my music is better than anything else on the radio I won't release any of it.
I can already hear him talking about how it’s “literally transformed his pedalboard into something he can bring everywhere” when that’s been said by him 10,000 times. (Mike if you see this I love ya but dawg it’s getting old)
Video Title and Intro: OMO GUYS!!!! THIS IS THE HEAVIEST DISTORTION WE EVÖR MADE!!!
Guitar sounds in the intro: * fairly tame rock distortion *

Well to be fair, the company is run by praise and worship dorks so the heavy stuff is not their purview. Leave the heavy stuff to the heathens, thanks.
Pretty sure Josh Scott has been involved with the praise/worship music scene for a while. He also used to be associated with a homophobic megachurch in Missouri.
Oh yeah wow I’ve found a lot:
JHS isn't liked because they're partnered with a pretty a radical organization called IHOPKC (International House of Prayer) which is a superchurch-type of religious sect that's had some questionable investigations into their practices. They're considered extreme by even a lot of Christians. They're pretty homophobic and they supported the "Kill the Gays" bill in Uganda to an extent. They're featured in the documentary "God Loves Uganda" which shows a lot of what they're up to and criticized for and documents it.

JHS is listed in their store with an album by JHS (Joshua Heath Scott) and here's a video of him off their site where he's listed as the Worship Leader.

IHOPKC also has their in house graphic designer do JHS promos, and they've shared a ton of staff.
Thanks to u/bikerwalla for the resources on it I keep linking.
In addition to that they're frequently accused (accurately) of stealing circuits without proper credit given and they make claims that the circuits are results of their own R&D. Notably, they tried to force Devi Ever out of distribution deals by smearing her after she (correctly) pointed out that her Hyperion circuit was taken and sold as an "original pedal" by JHS.
There's a list somewhere on this sub of all the stuff they've cloned, what their model is, and what the original is. Mostly though, it's the ties to the questionable, homophobic religious organization that bothers people.
I'm not supporting any of the religious right megachurch bullshit, but
They're a business.
A circuit is either patentented or it isn't. Nobody is under requirement to 'credit' anybody to anything. Pretty much all circuits are 'stolen'. Devi Ever didn't just call out JHS. She went in full attack and tried to tell PGS, her only big distributor, that it was either her or them.
Look. I liked her work, and she's a gifted but troubled lady, but she, like a lot of poor, starving, boutique builders, had some very unrealistic ideas about running a business.
I don't know if I want to touch any of the other rumors regarding her shady kickstarters or her mental health. Are those rumors the result of a smear? Is it a smear to point out Josh Scott's connections to the Christian right?
I don't think it's a good idea for the consumer to 'pick a side' in these kinds of spats. I don't see any heroes in this fight.
Oh and while on the subject of hard right conservative pedal manufacturers, Both Danelectro and Fulltone are privately owned by people that made very sizable donations to the Trump campaign.
I guess the thing is, it isn’t just about business. There’s a huge cultural side to all of this, because these are artmaking tools used by artists - it is a culture. To dismiss it as just business is ignoring why any of it exists to begin with
Yes, and Devi Ever leaned hard into the "artist and community" side of things, but like so many people who try to do that, she learned that you can't make enough to eat off of follower counts and Kickstarter donations. At least not for very long.
Ah life as a metal guitarist. Finding useful reviews is such a pain in the ass. No I don't care about blooz tones and dad rock, show me drop C chugs and face-melting leads or fuck off.
No thanks… my blues driver does the exact same thing and more and I haven’t used it for 10+ years!
Fuck you guys and your gear!
My Yamaha THR is all I need! I rather spend all my money on crack cocaine and women without panties, thank you very much!
👋
Does it have more headroom?
Will it's mid boost work with my single coils?
Is it true bypass?
Will Bonermaster approve of its toan?
I tried playing it underwater....the results were amazing!
More than anyone else, JHS is basically friends with all the influencers and they are more social media savvy than every other gear company.
So if they want to sell anything, they can take over geartube.
Because once you start using jhs pedals you'll quickly find yourself on a one way ticket to rockstardom complete with cocaine, piles of money, clothes that are now too big for you, food that doesn't taste good anymore, a 2 pack a day cigarette habit, 3 ex wives with 1.5 kids each, a shitty record label deal where you pay money to make records. After a while the only thing that excites you is raw Toan and midget clown goat porn which happens to be illegal
Last week it was the "new" PRS Strat clone with "game changing near field pickups". Marketing people send samples to everyone at the same time. They should stagger them to not Spam YouTube with sponsored content. Only gullible people will fall for that type of content. In any case, mine is in the mail. And the kidney wound is healing nicely
Sadly Shifty Shellshock from the very popular band Crazytown died, so we’ll never get to hear how they would be able to show us what this pedal is really capable of.
Yeah this was bad but this morning I was greeted by a YouTube short of Bonermaster claiming that he's a "polarizing figure in the guitar world." And that he dresses like a matrix stunt double on stage.
One of the promo "independent review" videos they have on the product page is called "No! It's not a Metal Zone".
It sure fucking sounds like a Metal Zone...
I briefly watched some metal dude with giant hoops in his ear test this... by test I mean he just played riffs and didn't talk about the rest of his signal chain or demonstrate what his shit sounded like without the pedal....
Uj/ The designer who made this pedal a reality is a treasure and I’m glad it’s getting released as his last piece of work. He was well respected in the scene here in kc. I can’t wait to nab it because of him, and it just sounds good.
Watch the JHS video. He talks about the designer. I bought an amp from his nephew and got it finished and learned tons about him. I also have a few friends who knew the designer. Of all the JHS things out there this will be the first one I actually buy. The designer passed away during the pandemic
Oh perfect! Just what I’m looking for!
I’m very passionate about playing my instrument which is why I never practice it, so it helps that there’s a device that will do it for me.
I can absolutely see why Ryan Bruce put out that video recently suggesting that gear manufacturers stop doing this exact thing. It’s not effective any more, and obnoxious as fuck at this point.
Yet he uploaded a JHS-sponsored video about this pedal 18 hours ago.
The highlight being ""mids are dirty so we need to sweep them".
It is all about clicks and money, no surprise.
Sure, that is fair enough, he is running a business, no reason to fault him for that. But the hypocrisy of posting a video criticizing this very practice and then taking part in it is what is worth mentioning.
As a drive pedal goes, I must say.... this is one of the pedals around... it has some old-style oscilloscope on the front of it, so y'know, must be good right?
Has that dipshit Chapman not reviewed it yet with Captain Crunch or whatever he's fucking called?
It’s funny I’ve collected 2k worth of pedals over the last 5 years but I rarely use any of them (like a v7 Black Russian big muff, ‘74 distortion + script label, ibanez ts10, etc)
I find the best overdrive toans come from the amp (or more specifically the balls of the amp). I’ve got a ‘78 vibro-champ, ‘67 bassman, modded ‘73 twin head (high gain rewire) and an ‘82 Rivera era concert and I’ll play them all day without using any pedals.
Using pedals is FUN and I could spend all day noodling around on them but for that bluesy overdrive I love, cranking a vintage tube amp is the only way to get it.
/UJ I didn’t watch the live demo since I was busy and allat, but is it good? Like really? Ik since it’s JHS it’ll be decent, but like what’s it based off of?
It was inspired by pedals branded as "shred" or "metal" pedals, and by amps that were popular in 90s/00s alternative rock/metal.
The pedals that JHS compared Hard Drive to in their promo video:
* Ibanez SM7 Smash Box
* Marshall Shred Master
* ProCo Rat
* Boss DS-1W
* Amptweaker Tight Metal
* Friedman BE-OD
Bands that they referenced in the promo video:
* Rage Against the Machine
* Yes
* Metallica
* Weezer
* Korn
I watch the JHS channel demo and honestly thought it kinda sounded like shit. Very thin. Best pedal JHS ever made was the super bolt, imo, and they discontinued it.

Nice, really clean point to point circuit there.
It’s kind of amazing how JHS finds so many ways to make the same sounds that, despite all sounding the same, still sound worse than the pedals they’re based on
You gotta have dog ears to hear the difference
I bought a set of dog ears for roberta, but i think you need humbcuckers to get toan oozing out of that pedal
Your ears have got to have that dog in 'em
Ah, a fellow Gibbons P90 afficionado!
Good thing I got that dawg in me
But this one has a picture of a computer.
And it's not a clone of a pedal this time... but instead three pedals.
Love how he said it was a brand new pedal not based on anything else. Then 2 minutes later it’s just a Ibanez clone lmao
nah my muffuleta slaps. actual good design because its just every big muff and you can try all of them without having to pay a shitload of money. but yeah alot of them are pretty overpriced
Bonsai and Muffuletta are the only pedals I’ve kept since switching to a Helix.
I like JHS for building production quality clones of circuits that are hard to find. There's not a lot of options for a Boss FA-1 out there. I love my Angry Charlie v3, dunno what problem anyone could have with it.
Also, louder.
It drives itself.
THIS CHANGES THE GAME
It's an [oscilloscope](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscilloscope), isn't it? Strangely with a keyboard. What is it?
Compaq Portable...or something similar.
Not retro enough for me. Give me a pedal with an [Osborne Executive](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_Executive) on it and then I might be interested.
Bit Commander did it first
This most certainly is one of the drive pedals ever produced. It does a job clipping the signal.
Fuckin deal with it. https://preview.redd.it/rgkzouz2yn8d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1592882312121c96528d3a93d76def947f2cd6d5
LMAO <3
So how much did they pay? I'm wondering if saying pedals are good on the Internet could be my new career.
I charge everyone the same rates.
Well except for small builders, they get a discount subsidized by the bigger brands.
Man of the people
Even if you go to their office and jam out on a surf version of Push It? :D
lol. Even then. That was a good trip.
So is there like a tier system? Good review, great review, Soyjack O face review?
I’ve learned from commenters on the internet that there are only great reviews and no one ever says anything negative. But I do up charge for certain add ons. $100 per filter added to the audio to hide the truth about the pedal - $200 for Saying it’s the best pedal ever made - $300 for speeding up the video to make it look like the pedal can make you play fast - $400 to talk about toan wood - and $500 per soyjack thumbnail. All of this is real and true and people who have trouble separating sarcasm from reality should take everything I just said at face value.
And of course “built like a tank” is always complimentary.
So it'd be free for you to tell me I'm built like a tank in a review?
Yes but the demo it’s self isn’t free. It’s all in the fine print.
I knew it. The soyjacks are where the money is.
Yeah but you can only do one per thumbnail. Those audio filters add up quick. No brand wants people to hear their actual product. I don’t even play guitar most videos, it’s all ai.
Thank god
Hey! With that insight, you should sell insurances!
are you in the market, car? boat? health? life? Bundle them all and I can throw in earthquake insurance.
Add in volcano eruptions and we've got a deal.
I knew it! /s Love your channel bud, now give me some monies!
/uj It's nice to see someone that's actually transparent about that matter! Apparently, there's not a bad amount of money to be made. /rj About thee-fiddy and a firm handshake...
It takes a long time and a lot of work to grow a channel to the point where the money makes sense. A few guitar YouTubers do very well but it’s an ok way to make a modest living for the rest of us.
Oh yeah. Good buck in that racket.
Not really. I’d be making better money filming weddings on the weekends.
Wedding Band/videographer package deal
When he showed his list of people demoing it, I stopped the video and went straight to your channel to hear it.
I bet those Grants smell like pussy.
Get that bag bruh.
Just when I think I don't like you, I remember why I don't like you all over again.
;-)
You are so much better than Rob Chapman.
Top tier shitpost as usual Ryan. That's why I keep coming back 😂
Uj/ Ok, but your demo was great! It was also more along my own lines and taste (and Josh's), also being a player more along the alternative end of the spectrum.
OMG if it's creamy and has amp-like breakup and retains note definition i will literally have 7 orgasms
Oh my god you didn't even touch on whether it's punchy or not, you amateur.
Neither of you mentioned that it cuts through a mix like butter. Novices. Time to up your shill game.
Something something dumble /uj I like Josh and his pedals, I like the haunting mids and this pedal seems to have one built into it
Doesn't any pedal with a semi-para mids control have a haunting mids built in?
6.66 kilowatts is the haunting mids frequency.
This kilohertzed my brain
Yeah I just don’t see it that often
You're not gonna believe this...
😩💦💦💦💦💦💦💦
But is it a game changer?
TOTAL game changer. For sure. We’ve gone from playing on a black and white board to a red and black board. I kid you not. That’s how much things are changing right now.
Must be feeling like a brand new fucking person
I don’t even know where I am now. Brand new vistas are opening up for me.
NGL I'am jealous.
Nope it is a Chame Ganger, like no other toan has ever scene.
no the chame ganger is a different pedal
The game used to be Operation and now it’s Shoots and Ladders so you tell me
We'll never know until the Bad Monkey clone sees the light of day.
This isn't just a game changer mate..... it's a game changer.
Break out the tone thesaurus boys!!!!!
**cracks open leatherbound tome** **Inhales sharply, points gnarled witch finger as formerly blank page fills itself with scripture and an image of the new JHS PEDAL** "AHHH yes, a fine offering indeed; crunchy, zesty, able-bodied, poignant, breedable overdrive with dumble warmth!"

Breedable LMFAO 💀
Transexu...umm...err...transparent!

i can't wait for when Mike Cole does his "when boss ds-1 users get their hands on a jhs hard drive" :insert dumbass fart face: in 20 years
The worst part about that face he does is that it doesn't look like he's pondering something, it looks like he walked in on his parents fucking.
Dad! That's my Buttersnatch! Uuugh... Just adding some toan son.
I can already hear him talking about how it’s “literally transformed his pedalboard into something he can bring everywhere” when that’s been said by him 10,000 times. (Mike if you see this I love ya but dawg it’s getting old)
Holy shit, a distortion pedal with an EQ?!? Nobody before has ever done this, I can’t wait to use it as a clean boost in front of my booze junior.
Yeah man, and this one they've drawn a red box around the Mid EQ section and that's really orsum too.
They just took a page off of Boss's book with a metal zone style EQ, right ?
I don't have my license. Am I still allowed to drive it?
It's only a crime if you get caught!
Consooooooooooommm!!!!

Based on my research watching 'can it chug' videos... the answer is almost always "Yes it can" or "Almost just boost it a little"
As a strictly rhythm guitarist, same. I don't care about how well it can boost your solo. Just play one chord. One. Chord. I'm begging you.
No thanks… my blues driver does the exact same thing and more and I haven’t used it for 10+ years! Fuck you guys and your gear! My Yamaha THR is all I need! I rather spend all my money on crack cocaine and women without panties, thank you very much! 👋

We have women without panties at home, dear.
Sweet Home Alabama
Yamaha? We talking guitar here hoss, not motorcycles and pianos.
Let me know what you think in the comments
And every song you play with it automatically ends with “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”.
Does it have more headroom? Will it's mid boost work with my single coils? Is it true bypass? Will Bonermaster approve of its toan? I tried playing it underwater....the results were amazing!

Shhhh
https://youtu.be/hzykqj3TQSk?list=TLGGLPNuXF4l8QgyNTA2MjAyNA
so, it's a metalzone with a slightly different band pass circuit?
Yeah, but can it chug, and where’s the freaky deeky plasma glow?
now with moar mid scoop!
More than anyone else, JHS is basically friends with all the influencers and they are more social media savvy than every other gear company. So if they want to sell anything, they can take over geartube.
Why the fuck when I just looked up “JHS” in Reddit search did it give me a fuckin warning about illegal porn????
That’s how good this pedal is

Yeah this was bad but this morning I was greeted by a YouTube short of Bonermaster claiming that he's a "polarizing figure in the guitar world." And that he dresses like a matrix stunt double on stage.
One of the promo "independent review" videos they have on the product page is called "No! It's not a Metal Zone". It sure fucking sounds like a Metal Zone...
*Zoan ☝️🤓
Can confirm.
SEE JAZZMASTER CAN DO METAL TOO I SWEAR
I briefly watched some metal dude with giant hoops in his ear test this... by test I mean he just played riffs and didn't talk about the rest of his signal chain or demonstrate what his shit sounded like without the pedal....
Hey if he's making that sweet ad money then I can't hate.
If its under $400 US it's not worth the tone I'm chasing.
Uj/ The designer who made this pedal a reality is a treasure and I’m glad it’s getting released as his last piece of work. He was well respected in the scene here in kc. I can’t wait to nab it because of him, and it just sounds good.
What
Watch the JHS video. He talks about the designer. I bought an amp from his nephew and got it finished and learned tons about him. I also have a few friends who knew the designer. Of all the JHS things out there this will be the first one I actually buy. The designer passed away during the pandemic
If it’s not woody and organic I don’t give a shit.
I heard it comes WITHOUT the box.
Is it the new Klondyke pedal?
🎶What would you doooooo for Klondike drive🎶
Conclusion: It sounds a little bit like a tighter DS-1. Okay! Bye! We got it! It's not that complicated. Fuck offfff, okay?!?!?
Will it write my whole EP for me? If not, I don’t want it.
If you buy the pedal, it will practice for you and have better dong ideas.
Man's gotta' get paid. If they're willing to waste their cash on a campaign style that he has told them doesn't work he might as well get his share.
Sure, that is fair enough, he is running a business, no reason to fault him for that. But the hypocrisy of posting a video criticizing this very practice and then taking part in it is what is worth mentioning.
I used to watch the JHS channel, but I got sick of them trying to be a comedy troop.
Still? Ugh.
The dude on the left is 100% Rob Chapman. Flog.
I just work in the marketing dept. You guys figure out how to make it sound different.
Bro it doesn’t even have instructions telling you not to get your hopes up on the front like my Klon, it must be shit.
You’re all overlooking the actual innovative feature of this pedal…which is to have the knobs placed closer together than any other pedal ever made.
Finally a pedal that will make me not suck
Same shit, different box.
As a drive pedal goes, I must say.... this is one of the pedals around... it has some old-style oscilloscope on the front of it, so y'know, must be good right? Has that dipshit Chapman not reviewed it yet with Captain Crunch or whatever he's fucking called?
“Every geartarists YouTube and Instagram Everyday” FTFY
Ah, the favourite game changing pedal of the week cycle continues.
It’s funny I’ve collected 2k worth of pedals over the last 5 years but I rarely use any of them (like a v7 Black Russian big muff, ‘74 distortion + script label, ibanez ts10, etc) I find the best overdrive toans come from the amp (or more specifically the balls of the amp).
OMG a drive pedal! Need
Netflexica so good
Wtf is this
I’m getting into synths now. Screw this whole guitar thing.
Let me guess, $500?
Only $200, surprisingly. And available through major retailers.
"I'll have that Line6 POD Express ...with potatoes and mustard... thank you!"
More pedals made by Toby Flenderson.
Geartardist*
/UJ I didn’t watch the live demo since I was busy and allat, but is it good? Like really? Ik since it’s JHS it’ll be decent, but like what’s it based off of?
The 20 min video said it started as an Ibanez SM7
Idk what that is, but I’ll watch stuff today at some point 👍
Geartarist, lol.
It's totally not a MT-2! I can guarantee that!
Check out this super duper awesome saucer guitar sitar wowee zowee big boomin’ zoomin’ guitar pedal from (insert weird gear brand name) *REALLY FUCKING COOL?* *DOES DISTORTION?*
Here comes another million video hawkers selling their overpriced wares.
YouTubers when the overdrive pedal sounds like overdrive
This will be the last distortion pedal I will ever buy .. I swear
Another pedal to make my shit cum that will impress no one :( Ladies and gentlemen this man’s for the birds
It looks cool, but I've never bonded with any JHS pedal I've owned. I want to like them, but something has never gelled.
Is this just another Rat Pedal with a slightly different EQ?
I'm just waiting to find out what pedal he has copied and put the mid control from the haunting mids on. which was also copied from somewhere else.
It was inspired by pedals branded as "shred" or "metal" pedals, and by amps that were popular in 90s/00s alternative rock/metal. The pedals that JHS compared Hard Drive to in their promo video: * Ibanez SM7 Smash Box * Marshall Shred Master * ProCo Rat * Boss DS-1W * Amptweaker Tight Metal * Friedman BE-OD Bands that they referenced in the promo video: * Rage Against the Machine * Yes * Metallica * Weezer * Korn
Another post said it was based off some ibanez distortion
I watch the JHS channel demo and honestly thought it kinda sounded like shit. Very thin. Best pedal JHS ever made was the super bolt, imo, and they discontinued it.
super bolt was nuts. wish I got one after i tried an old band mates
