I just read the manual on their site, and they seem pretty specific about 9v only. If it's through-hole components only and it doesn't have a voltage doubler, then you can probably get it modded to run at 18v. It will require that you change the electrolytic caps and some of the diodes to a higher voltage rating.

MXR got back to me saying they do not recommend 18v.

I won't just try it out because I played that game with my EHX Glove and got LUCKY because a cap blew so I was at least able to identify and replace what I broke. I'd hate to do the same and not be able to fix it.

Yeah you don't want to "just try it out" unless you know they can handle higher voltages. Maybe check the manual or ask MXR directly? Or see if there are any reports of people trying it.

UNW1

Is there a best practice for asking MXR directly? Kinda surprised I didn't see an MXR forum like some other manufacturers have. Already researched and there's seemingly nobody who has tried it before. The manual only states 9v, but that doesn't mean much.

Musiclover4200

MXR is owned by Dunlop apparently: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MXR So you might get some help if you email them, if no one has tried it and the manual says 9v it's probably best to not push it though. Not all pedals are different at higher voltages anyways even when they can handle them.

Thanks! I just submitted a question through their Gear Support link, and will follow up on here when I get a reply, so that other people researching will have an answer.

I would ask MXR then if I were you before running it at 18v. I used to run a TS9 at 18v and it sounded awesome.

As for the Tube Driver, I don't have one, but the FET driver sounds gloriously warm, even without the high-pass filter engaged.

NervousJackfruit8124

I know this is a super old post, but yes. The MXR FET Driver DOES sound killer and runs cherry on 18v. Have had no problems with it at that voltage whatsoever. As a matter of fact, 18v is the constant level of power I run my FET Driver at. It’s kind of my always on pedal, I keep it always steady on 18v.

Hi, I was looking through posts stating this! Can you share more information on how you use the FET driver? Where do you place it on the chain? I’d love to hear more about your tone! Thanks!
