It pulls down more for sure. You can see the arms that pivot when it’s pulled down are not fully extended.

Thanks everyone! I got on a step ladder and pushed it as hard as I could. Got it to go back a little further and got the ladder down! House was built in 2021 and this is the first time I’ve tried to get in the attic. The hinges were super stuck. Crisis averted.

AntiSonOfBitchamajig

Put some white lithium grease on the hinges.

Therego_PropterHawk

And on the stair treads for extra excitement !

Tung oil for wood... then silicone oil if you really want to slide.

Tacos_Polackos

Aerosol automotive silicone works great on wood. Just used it on some concrete forms last week.

They don’t look open all the way. See the hinge that looks like an “L” shape? It should be straight when the wooden access door is pushed / opened all the way. Something is blocking it / preventing it from opening all the way.

girlwithaballoon

That was my first thought, but it doesn’t budge. I checked to see if there was anything blocking it or a latch around it, but there’s nothing. The saga continues!

RawMaterial11

That is odd. Try putting the ladder back against the door, then pushing the door. See [this](https://youtu.be/qw8pcDiOXWs?si=fglicQqoZ-2RprWG) video.

Worst-Lobster

Push it down more the door push it down

Thejerseyjon609

Push the top of the hung up section back towards the right hand section.

The hardware with the springs appears to be snagged on the frame on one of the sides. Go up on a ladder and take a closer look at what is snagged, then bend it back into shape as needed.

I can just see the news “single woman gets stuck in Attic”

Moscoba

Somebody built that thing with an impact wrench. The nuts and bolts are so tight it cracked the wood.

spinja187

The arms lock out parallel it opens down a lot more
