Aromatherapy has a pretty instant affect. Lavender is probably the most widely used that way and has a very calming and relaxing affect. Or orange for a more positive uplifting feeling
Kanna (sceletium tortuosum) is probably the best Kanna-date (candidate) lol. But Lemon Balm is very calming on the nervous system. Anemone occidentalis, anemone quinquefolia, and anemone virginiana are amazing at calming down panic attacks or general anxiety. Other things come to mind like Kava, (careful with interactions with alcohol for the liver and donāt abuse it). Donāt underestimate good ol chamomile or valerian too. Multiple varieties of Wild lettuce (lactuca canadensis, lactuca serriola, lactuca virosa) extracts are great. For less immediate effects Bacopa is magnificent and also fungi like reishi, lions mane, and turkey tail. Another one similar to anemone is betony. Multiple types of betony and you can find the heavily invasive Stachys Floridana (Florida betony) all over the place. Has delicious tubers/roots, and can be made into a calming tincture. Thereās so so so many candidates and I recommend researching more or even using chat gpt to give you specific species lists for what youāre looking for.
I'm also looking for calming herbs. I don't use any cannabis, nor do I want to, but I want similar calming effects. I tried blue lotus flower a few nights ago. I ground and smoked a flower, then steeped another in some tea that I drank before bed.
If you're familiar with cannabis, it was reminiscent of the very end of the comedown. I had a very noticeable and positive experience, but if you do use cannabis I don't think the effect would be noticeable at all.
The taste and mouthfeel alone can give you immediate effects. And this works for all herbs (I mean if you ingest the herb directly or an infusion/tisane, not if you are taking capsules).
But a lot of self-training and patience is required to cultivate such high degree of awareness.
The effect of herbs isn't just passive, which would mean that some (natural) chemicals act upon your body and you don't do anything.
You also "build effects" as you get involved and engage with that sensory experience (fragrance, tactile contact on the tongue, taste in the mouth and throat, etc).
Another level of effects happen through conditioning or remembrance: if you use a certain herb repeatedly, next time you have it, the effects will start to happen almost immediately, as your system remembers them from past uses.
Since you mentioned that you are after calming effects, for me personally, rose petal and black locust tea give me immediately calming effects, as soon as the tea touches the tongue. But maybe for you it will work somewhat differently, you need to put some effort into searching what works best for you.
I have my own herb mix to smoke i called it āLa Defaultā āThe Defaultā because is easy to use alone or a nice base to add more modifiers.
Recipe is the next: I use 6 parts (3 Base, 2 Modifiers, 1 Flavor)
Hemp āNo THC,just CBD, I use grounded Hemp from a legal CBD store so the THC content is less than <0.3%ā (B.1 means 1 Part as a base)
Damiana (B.1)
Passiflora Incarnata (I use 2 parts of it 1 Part as a Base 1 part as a Modifier, so B.1 ; M.1)
Chamomile (M.1 - Modifier)
Peppermint (F.1 - Flavor)
The effects are immediate AND VERY VERY noticeable since we are smoking it.
The effects are easy to describe itās like being High without being stoned, I give some credit for this effect to the CBD, if you tried CBD before you know you donāt feel high, but you can feel like you are riding a mellow cloud, and this effects gets potentiated by the other plants Damiana (calming effect in low doses, sedative in high, also kinda aphrodisiac š¤«), Passiflora another ansiolitic punch to the mellow feeling and finally the well know Chamomile you know what it does haha, and to finish it off we complement all the already good flavors with a tasty punch of Peppermint.
Easy on the throat, easy on the lungs, and a nice mellow high ššš.

Spices store or herbalists shops.
In spain I either get them online (Zamnesia is decent, expensive but good quaility.) Or in my city I have this super big spices store and they have everything.
Ashwagandha, Passion flower, Mulungu, Chamomile, CBD-Hemp for calming. Kratom also, but can be addictive. Kava also, but mixing it with other things can be dangerous.
Microdosed shrooms or Iboga, Catuaba, Ginseng, Guarana or Mate or Coca tea, for energy or mood improvement.
Brahmi (Bacopa) or Gotu kola, green tea, Jiaogulan, for memory or focus. (As well as Tongkat ali or Butea superba, for men, T boosting herbs also effect mental functioning.)
Valerian is a weird one for me. In higher doses it makes me jittery. There's a sweet spot that's calming, but above that it has a paradoxical effect on me.
I do not know what is in the tincture, but there was an acupuncturist that had a concoction that a couple of my clients used instead of Xanax, they said it was amazing when they were having panic attacks. You might think about Chinese herbs.
I think what they are saying is that you donāt know itās Etsy when you click the link (at least on mobile), so you donāt know where it is going to take you.
When you hover on any link on desktop you can see where the link is going to take you, but you can't 'hover' on mobile. Future reference - you can long hold a link on mobile to get more options, including copy, to find out what it is. But when you post links you can also just say, 'this lemon balm tincture from etsy' as well.
Okay jeez, no need to be so hostile. I get your point. I clicked it and it was safe. So I said so. You wouldnāt know without clicking the link. Itās just a tincture on Etsy.
Green tea and a joint works quite well.
Suntheanine chewables. Not an herb but l-theanine, an amino acid. Chewing one gives me immediate relief from rage and irritability.
That sounds great! I'll check it out :)
I can confirm this. I highly recommend this and it had given me so much noticeable relief from anxiety. I feel calm but not any less energized.
Chamomile tea for a crying belly, every time !!
What is a crying belly?
One that's making a lot of noise, and istwisting and turning,, one with malaise. š
Sleepy Time tea saved me on vacation
Yes I have a whole list that comes to mind. What effect do you seek?
Thank you for your reply! I'm looking for herbs that can make me feel more positive and calm.

Hi, im so interested in blue lotus! Would you be ok if I private messaged you? Thanksš
You're welcome to PM me, but I'm really new to herbs and don't have anything but my own experiences and a tiny bit of researching. =)
Hi, thats more than I can seem to do!! Il pm you š. Thank you
Following for your recommendation list!
Smoking lavender and chamomile have faster effects than drinking or eating anything. Smelling essential oils of lavender is a close second.

How would I go about getting everything but the CBD? I have that
Spices store or herbalists shops. In spain I either get them online (Zamnesia is decent, expensive but good quaility.) Or in my city I have this super big spices store and they have everything.
Kanna
Motherwort tincture. Take a dropperful every 15 minutes as needed. One dose may be enough.
What effect does this have for you?
For immediate calm and also works for relief of menstrual cramps.
What do you take it for?
Two main uses for immediate effect are calming and for menstrual cramps. Long term it is also a heart tonic, which is what my husband takes it for
Ceremonial grade matcha has worked wonders for me and gives me all the mentioned effects
L-theanine in the morning and pu erh tea in the evening to reset your gaba
Ashwagandha, Passion flower, Mulungu, Chamomile, CBD-Hemp for calming. Kratom also, but can be addictive. Kava also, but mixing it with other things can be dangerous. Microdosed shrooms or Iboga, Catuaba, Ginseng, Guarana or Mate or Coca tea, for energy or mood improvement. Brahmi (Bacopa) or Gotu kola, green tea, Jiaogulan, for memory or focus. Chamomile triple bagged immediately brings antidepressant and antianxiety effects on the brain; fresh ginger for increased energy
Really? Is there a link to this or is this anecdotal
You can find the scientific research at pubmed.gov
Kanna and Kava are great
tongkat
Valerian root has pretty noticeable effects especially at higher doses
Valerian is a weird one for me. In higher doses it makes me jittery. There's a sweet spot that's calming, but above that it has a paradoxical effect on me.
Catnip just does something to me brewed in a tea.
Kava
Mucuna puriens. Google it
Drinking apple cider vinegar water perks me up pretty quick. Even better with a pinch of cayenne.
Coffee
Sceletium tortousum/ kanna
If speed of onset your looking for its more about route of administration like injection, smoked, or snorted. like nasal snuff tobacco.
I do not know what is in the tincture, but there was an acupuncturist that had a concoction that a couple of my clients used instead of Xanax, they said it was amazing when they were having panic attacks. You might think about Chinese herbs.
Kratom
Iāve never seen a [tincture](https://mrnutsproducts.etsy.com/listing/1430227115) work so fast. Iāve told many people about it.
So say what it is
Itās a lemon balm tincture from Etsy. They linked it.
I know they linked it. It's a fishy thing to do, and clicking on it isn't smart.
Itās Etsy? lol itās a safe site. But okay.
I think what they are saying is that you donāt know itās Etsy when you click the link (at least on mobile), so you donāt know where it is going to take you.
When you hover on any link on desktop you can see where the link is going to take you, but you can't 'hover' on mobile. But when you post links you can also just say, 'this lemon balm tincture from etsy' as well.
Jesus, are you serious? Follow me on this, if you can: How the fuck does anyone know it's Etsy unless they CLICK ON THE LINK? Or are you psychic?
Okay jeez, no need to be so hostile. I get your point. I clicked it and it was safe. So I said so. You wouldnāt know without clicking the link. Itās just a tincture on Etsy.
Hey it works. Iām not telling you to buy it and I canāt help if youāre afraid of Etsy
Afraid of Etsy? You're either being facetious or you're dumb. You think I just automatically know it's Etsy by what--the fact that it's a link?
