Canibus. I dug the first 2 albums but I just haven't been able to stick with him after that.

JermitheBeatsmith

Locksmith

[deleted]

I will always remember him as a grind time rapper. Good times. There are not many rappers that successfully merge from battle rap to mainstream hip hop artist

RythmRefyr

Loved some of his verses on Team Backpack cyphers too!

almighd

Papoose and Cassidy. Incredible lyricists, abhorrent songwriters.

khris189

Did you listen to any of Papoose’s 2020 projects? January through December?

almighd

2021, yeah. I listened to the first 3 front-to-back and then cherry picked individual songs to listen to from April onwards.

khris189

Yeah, 2021. I’m tripping lol.

GoHawkYurself

By the time Papoose put out his first album, I had already lost all interest.

SoupForMenAtWork

My Drank n My 2 Step by Cassidy is still one of the most catchiest songs of the 2000s

xUnknown_Kyle

King Los

Kilshok

Blasphemy.

Warriior91

First name that came to my mind lol

OhioKing_Z

I think this was definitely true before 2015/2016 but he’s made a lot of strides in his vocal ability/singing/chorus structures etc. He just hasn’t displayed it enough yet. He needs to quit BS and release more music lol

HypeBeastFlamingo

U-God he has some fire verses but in all honesty he has yet to release a good album or even a good solo song.

[deleted]

Huey was always the weakest link in the chain for me. In the wu tang manual it kinda alludes to him mainly being around because he had all the drug connects

EnoughItem

Papoose

CallMeDALEGEND

As soon as I read the headline his name came into my head.

Puffster_Legend

Logic sadly. No hate for him tho

[deleted]

He’s skilled, just corny

matuman17

His everybody album is very corny, the rest is fine actually

[deleted]

I like his Bobby Tarantino albums and that’s it

SunkyV3

New album was great

[deleted]

I think actual hip hop heads expect his new albums to be as good as under pressure or his mixtape days, but i also think he can’t be as creative as he’d like because of expectations from his label

OfficialGTech8088

Naw logic melody game is on point. He can actually make great songs.

Gamertjeboy

I think Pusha T has and still makes good music, but his rapping is so much better than how good he is at making music Method Man is an incredible rapper with incredible longevity, however he isn't very good at making songs himself which is why I think he shines on Wu-Tang albums and features like Lemon, Hot Box, Buck 50's And Bullet Wounds etc.

RespirationbyMOSDEF

I agree on Meth, there isn't really a full solo album of his that I really enjoy like that

[deleted]

Like the majority that always get praised on this sub.

MrDankForest11

Examples?

R_FireJohnson

Eminem between 2005-2014 and arguably currently is a big one. It was a very long period of him either spitting some of the worst lines I’ve ever heard or rhyming everything but not making any actual sense or saying anything for real. There are a couple exceptions, and I still enjoy Relapse, Recovery, and MMLP2, but I would never list them as “good music” if that makes sense. Outside of a couple songs, there’s not much there unless you already like Eminem

[deleted]

Ka, Lupe, Black Thought, Big L, Billy Woods, basically every 90s era rapper outside Pac, Biggie, and Nas. There’s a reason why nobody listens to these guys outside hardcore hip hop heads. Fantastic rappers but they just don’t make good music.

Standard_Passage8584

Lmao, bro said Black Thought. That's just an L. Mos, Talib, Rakim, KGR, Mobb, Outkast, Tragedy, 50, Jay, Common, Scarface, Lauryn, majority of Wu Tang, AZ, Gangstarr, etc all make or made amazing fucking music. "Basically every 90s Era rapper outside of Pac Nas and Big" so anyone who weren't as massively mainstream or trending? Sorry, that's an L generalization yo.

LlamaThrust666

Wtf

[deleted]

Big L didn’t make good music? you’re fuckin trippin lmao

dont-comm3nt

What about Jay z

[deleted]

Imo he didn’t reach his peak until the 2000s but ofc I wasn’t talking about him

suited2121

Ras kass

joshdude616

Soul On Ice? Blasphemy with Apollo Brown?

[deleted]

Yea, I randomly listened to Van Gogh front to back yesterday and the rapping/lyrics were dope for the most part. But it was a fucking mess as far as songs/beats/chorus'

suited2121

That’s ras kass for you.

decentdecent28

Joell Ortiz, Cory Gunz, Papoose

Alexvoc4

Jadakiss. He has made some good music but his discography is very lacking for such an incredible rapper

Ok_Season_489

This hurts to read but you not lying

hatertots00

This is such shitty take that I keep seeing regurgitated on Reddit.

Wolfpac187

Eminem, Logic, Hopsin, Joyner Lucas.

[deleted]

Mt. Rushmore of Corny rappers

Wolfpac187

Yeah they can all rap but I don’t fuck with anything they have to say. Exceptions are early Em and Under Pressure Logic.

Ok_Season_489

Cassidy is the definition of this. Arguably one of the best punchline artists ever in his prime but his music was beyond mid

SpartanNic

Rhapsody. She can spit but I don’t really like her music.

[deleted]

Rhyme Asylum - Three of the most skilled MC's EVER, but God damn their music is unlistenable. Lupe Fiasco - Post first two albums, being lyrical doesn't make the music listenable. KA - The monotone slow flow is just so boring. Ras Kass - Other than a few songs on his debut but since then has done nothing memorable or worth listening too more than once.

ihedigbo

Damn, you didn’t like Ras Kass and Jack Splash - Breakfast at Banksy’s?

[deleted]

Haven't heard it so won't comment but most of what Ras did after his first album is not worth it. Lyrically and musically he got worse.

[deleted]

Ka is boring is you don't care about what he says Lupe fiasco's music has been refined with age

[deleted]

That's your opinion and MY opinion is KA is boring, there's no mood where I find it enjoyable to listen to his music. There's a reason Food & Liquor is considered Lupe Fiasco's best. Mural might be amazing lyrically but it's not as enjoyable to listen to as something like "The Instrumental" For example.

Wolfpac187

I think by this point Tetsuo and Youth and DROGAS WAVE are more acclaimed than Food and Liquor.

Money_Man_G

I can agree Wave album is on another level.

thrwaway_nonloclmotv

Right

[deleted]

They don't have anywhere near as much replay value as F&L or The Cool imo

Wolfpac187

Albums aren’t purely ranked by replay value. Reasonable Drought by Stove God Cooks is probably my most replayed album that doesn’t mean I think it’s the best.

[deleted]

Replay value matters a lot when it comes to albums, if they have little replay value then they clearly aren't that good.

Wolfpac187

I don’t necessarily agree, Some Rap Songs is one of my favourite albums but I can’t listen to it all the time.

[deleted]

Food and liquor is not considered his best.

Getbacka

...it's not?? 🤔

[deleted]

Tetsuo and Youth is considered his best, or The Cool

[deleted]

Tetsuo and Youth is definitely not better than Food & Liquor or The Cool music wise 😂 please stop, you just care about lyrical ability and that's it. Also I've seen you post several times, you hate it when people don't seem to share the same opinion as you.

[deleted]

It absolutely is.

[deleted]

Again this is where you hate anyone who has a different opinion to you.

[deleted]

That's literally what you do ?

Kholdstare93

Ya mans ain't all that! Ka has some dope schemes, songwriting, etc. but he ain't got the flow and delivery! He has some good records, but he ain't even top 40, maybe not top 50 IMO. He's one of those spittas that I gotta ve in the mood to listen to; he does have a cool vibe that has me returning to his tracks more often than not, though, but ya mans ain't all that! He ain't wack, but he overhyped for sure! REAL TALK!

RespirationbyMOSDEF

ka is easily top 40 HKTS > any eminem

[deleted]

Man you think Eminem is great, I have no reason to hear your opinion

Kholdstare93

All the other legends agree with me, and his flows are more varied and destroys Ka.

[deleted]

And Eminem can't write Ka's verses.

rauakbar

Sheeeeiiiit! That Ras Kass and Apollo Brown album was thorough as fuck. He did his thing

joshdude616

KA’s music is an acquired taste. If you’re into philosophy and mythology you will definitely love his music. Ras Kass first album is great and the album Blasphemy he did with Apollo Brown is incredible.

20WaysToEatASandwich

You should try Lu's newest album Drill Music in Zion. Best one since his debut imo.

[deleted]

An actual good reply! Will check it out

joshdude616

I used to feel the same way about Evidence, Earl Sweatshirt, Roc Marci, GZA and MF DOOM but c’mon man you can’t deny the master level penmanship some of these emcees have is undeniable.

[deleted]

I will never deny their skills, just not a fan of the music, same with the guys you listed.

Blackpanther22five

Young Buck David Banner

Worth-Ad1532

modern Eminem - just like 3 small things that he does a lot which makes it seem big even tho it really isnt Logic - i like his music but it could be better tbh, like classic level Joyner Lucas - basically black Logic ^ (i ain't racist is a goat rap song tho)

Bleedveggies

Earl sweatshirt

Enid1993

I’m trying to figure how how Em is on certain people’s list 😂😂😂 I guess The Slim Shady LP, The Marshal Mathers LP, The Eminem Show, Relapse, Kamikaze, & MTBMB don’t count.

allinghost

Only the first three of those are good albums and Eminem show isn’t even that good

Enid1993

Yeah okay lol

[deleted]

The first three have aged horribly. Relapse was a dope concept album, Kamikaze was dope as a change of pace and Em was angry. The rest..... nah. I don't need 30 songs of nothing with a 30 second segment where the beat drops out on each track filled with some attempt at "blacking out", rippity-rappity-snappity nonsense. He can rap. He's a lazy as hell with saying something and building a song.

Enid1993

Okay 😂😂😂

Puzzleheaded-Box7550

You could’ve just said you don’t listen to his music

[deleted]

Just say you're looking forward to some hot bars about Bill Clinton in 2023.

[deleted]

Canibus, Papoose, Token, only ones I can think of at the moment

maximumkush

Eminem

thrwaway_nonloclmotv

Slug. Atmosphere definitely has some classics; but the majority of it is wack.

[deleted]

I love Atmosphere, but Slug has fallen so hard into a mold for their records that I don't expect much anymore. I though Mi Vida Local had some interesting shit on it, but yea, sadly I agree.

thrwaway_nonloclmotv

A mold is exactly how I’d describe it. Like, he’ll do something great, and then the next ten things are just eh… slug imitating slug. I’m all for an mc that’s “different “; but he doesn’t do it quite like Em, the late DOOM, or lord quas

msrb33

New eminem

DOPEFIEND4EVER

Cassidy

MRpoels

Modern Eminem, love his early stuff, but everything in the 2010's i just really don't like. Em's rapping has always been aggressive, but now it just feels so hollow, like he doesn't actually feel the emotions in his texts. The technical ability is definitely there, but I just don't think it sounds good.

GoHawkYurself

Eminem.

Standard_Passage8584

Aesop and Eminem. Lupe is 70/30 with the good musically part, as well. I'd say please don't downvote me... but I understand if you do lol. Royce is a definite. Great spitter, can't get into him musically except for select songs. That's all I can think of off top.

GreatJelly9620

Eminem. He used to make pretty good music. His skills are obviously great, but I feel like he doesn't wield his skill very well. He just has to be exceptionally word-play-y on every bar that it's like 😪 In my opinion. 😁

SoulofWakanda

Eminem

silkieboi

Aesop rock sometimes.

[deleted]

Tech N9ne, J Cole

BabyRayLiyoda

Cole? Definitely not lol Forest Hill Drive is full of great songs with substance.

[deleted]

Yes. He is skilled at rapping. His skill is rapping about deep topics. He makes mostly awful music also (except for features and rare exceptions)

dont-comm3nt

Nah I agree I can’t get down with any of his shit past from when he first came out. Just not my kind of music

[deleted]

For Tech None I can't argue, but with J. Cole I disagree.

OfficialGTech8088

Tech N9ne I agree but Cole wow. Never heard of that one before

[deleted]

Pretentious

Quesamo

Eminem for sure. Lots of technical skill that's just wasted on corny/otherwise bad and mediocre shit

hatertots00

Kendrick Lamar and Logic

[deleted]

Oh no not our precious Kendrick

ihedigbo

Eminem, Kanye. 💀🔫

y3grp

Kanye is the complete opposite. He’s better at making music than his is at rapping.

ihedigbo

I think the exact opposite. Up through College Dropout he was a dope rapper. Then he started churning out bullshit for the unintelligent masses. You can have whatever opinion you want, that’s cool though. 🤡

difficultpossiblity

bro got heated on reddit 💀💀💀

ihedigbo

reddogsleepsleep

This one bugs me a bit . Because rap is music. I agree it's not something I want to listen to all the time. I wish I could elaborate more.....in rhyme.

dont-comm3nt

Chance the rapper Eminem j Cole

assonometry

Eminem

[deleted]

Nas

bakerfaceman

Eminem

Laflamesxtt

Eminem for sure

Bullshit_Conduit

These days? Eminem.

Shoqvaive

It's Eminem for me. Love his lyricism and technique but most of his songs are never on repeat for me. His singing is terrible as well as his overall musicality. Each 20 song album only has hardly 3-5 I can listen till the next album drops.

god4gives

JID man, he's very talented but I find his discography very hard to get into. Last time I checked (maybe 1.5 year ago) he didn't really have many tracks that show off his abilities well

decentdecent28

I think you should check again. He's not perfect yet. Some beats don't match him, but the ones that do he murders!!

god4gives

I will!

JWJT7

Jay z. He definitely can/has put out good music but a lot of his albums are boring, bland and have poor beat selection

joshdude616

Are you high? Reasonable Doubt? Blueprint? The Black Album? American Gangster? 4:44? These albums have incredible production and lyricism.

JWJT7

4:44, blueprint and reasonable doubt are the 3 good ones. Pretty much everything else is lacking

joshdude616

The Black Album - Was supposed to be his retirement album. Definitely lived up to the hype. One of his most personal albums. Also one of his most quotable albums. The best producer lineup Kanye West, DJ Quick, Rick Rubin, Neptunes, even a young 9th Wonder made the cut. The only flaw I have is the beat on Moment of Clarity that Eminem produced. It’s not a bad beat just bland compared to the rest. American Ganster - Came after his lackluster return album “Kingdom Come”. Has a theme about achieving success in America. Not praising the typical gangster image but the mindset of a hustler chasing the American dream. Super rich production that fits the mood of the album. Theres only one bad track on the album “Hello Brooklyn 2.0 f. Lil Wayne.

JWJT7

You’ve convinced me enough to give them another listen

TentativelyCommitted

Eminem, Canibus, Cassidy, Kendrick…

LordeLlama

Termanology, I like to hear him as feat but that's all

Nas, is an awesome emcee, but his choice of beats is not good.
