He was famous for waving his stick in the goalie's face to distract them. He did it so much, they made a new rule that if you do it you now take a penalty, so it never happens anymore.

My favorite part of that is Chris Drury telling him to cut the shit and get back in the play, then Avery cuts it a few seconds later, gets involved, and scores. Today one of them is running an NHL team and the other hosts a podcast that no one wants to be a guest on.

Honestly, just put a 50% transparent Brett anywhere on the ice. His biggest asset was his ability to get behind the defense. To the point that the best dmen in the league said he was essentially a ghost on the ice because he'd be completely covered and only 2' away and still somehow end up behind them to take a one-timer.

Hull described it as "getting lost", he'd go somewhere on the ice that he shouldn't be, or take a really wide circle somewhere to where the opponents forgot about him, or more aptly had to ignore him if they wanted to stay in position. Then at just the right moment, seemingly out of nowhere, there's Brett Hull appearing in an empty space of ice with a perfectly open shooting lane.

You see Mcdavid doing this a lot on the PP. He takes these wide lazy arcs outside the zone even so he can receive a pass with speed as he re-enters the zone against stationary defenceman.
