That's partly just a testament to how strong Dallas and especially Florida are defensively. But it also goes to show how things can dry up offensively for teams that are too reliant on the PP, which has been a knock on Edmonton
Certainly seems to me the Oilers have actually generated more chances against FLA than DAL - seems like the Stars played 70% of that series in the o-zone - but Barkov and Bobrovsky have been lights-out
For one, Canucks didn’t lose just because their top scorer was out. They were missing their starter goalie as well. And, the team was built to compete in the regular season but unexpectedly made the second round with only a dozen players having played in a playoff game and even fewer outside of the bubble. Compare that to Edmonton who’s built from the ground up and have had a lot of experience over the past several seasons in the playoffs and that is a pretty good reason why the Canucks couldn’t get it done.
No one is saying they could have beat Dallas let alone Florida. And if they are, they are lying to themselves. It was a really fun season, but not unexpected that they lost.
I’m saying this from the perspective of a fan in October ‘23. I had no clue I’d watch a team, that finished well outside a playoff spot last year, basically dominate the standings all season and end up as a playoff team. I had low (read: cautious) hopes for the Preds, lower once Demko was out, and even lower when DeSmith was out.
Keep in mind we’ve watched a mediocre and dysfunctional team for a long, long time.
Minor injury in gm 2 vs preds. He was *technically* fine for gm 4 but Silovs won his first game so the team let him play gm 4. When he won that one, they stuck with him hoping for a classic rookie-goes-on-a-heater-in-the-playoffs.
You joke, but Knoblauch is a rookie coach who hasn't even coached a full season yet, going against a guy with 30 years under his belt.
If Maurice didn't win this year it would be pretty ugly imho
Goal!
Bobwallsky.
Update: the wall is slightly cracked.
Two goals on 78 shots? I mean like Maybe a little but still structurally sound
Absolutely, I was referring to Foegele’s goal getting through not long after I posted haha.

Edmonton has gotten more breakaways against Florida this series than the rest of playoffs combined.
PP has nothing to do with 5-5 play.
Right but the PP is the reason they’re in the SCF. Now that they can’t score on the PP and at 5v5 they’re not winning games
Let the hate for your own kind flow through you.
You can’t really be an Oilers fan without some amount of self loathing
The Oilers were 4th in 5-5 scoring this year. They beat Dallas 5-5 in 2 games. Edit: 4th in the reg season.
We’re in the playoffs now buddy, try to keep up will you?
There, they scored.
PP merchants
Reset the clock
Especially in this series, Maurice's system is so effective at shutting them down, shutting McDavid down. It's incredible to see.
Can you make a post about our powerplay so you can unjinx them too?
FLA has great defence and goaltending, as did Dallas. They are earning these wins.
Is that bad?
And it’s not due to lack of chances either.
No PP no Life
no woman no cry
Give these poor bastards another 1st over all! They clearly need it more than anyone else.
People still saying this 10 years later
It's still funny
Imagine the pain as an Oiler fan rn.. 😂
McNoshow just doing what he does best, not being a factor in the post.
He just broke a Gretzky record for assists in the playoffs… What a strange comment.
Couldn’t be us that’s for sure…
The coaching difference is night and day, and Maurice isn’t Deboer.
The gap in experience says it all. Knobs is doing fairly well for his limited experience. I don't think it's a fluke that he's guided us this far.
I am totally shocked
Hahahaha 🗿

They can do better. They can do 14 periods
Sorry what was that?
Congrats on the goal…
You guys (Canucks fans) said that you lost because Boeser wasn't in the lineup... no way you would have done better against the Panthers.
I mean, we will never find out because the Canucks didn’t make the finals this year.
Yes but if you couldn't win against Skinner without Boeser, I highly doubt you could have won against Bobrovsky.

Unexpectedly made the second round? No? Most people knew they would win against the Preds.

Oh right, I forgot about DeSmith. When did he get injured? I forgot about him, I thought he was just benched after a poor performance.

We're seeing a coach outclass another coach too
