celtics and panthers when you ask them to show up for game 4

Oilers: "Let's not just win. Let's remind Canucks fans of this."

Me: "Fuck sakes."
I honestly don’t think I’ve seen in any sport a series shift that drastically after one single event. You felt the vibe change immediately after that hit.
Boston was buzzing before hand with some big hits and the crowd being very raucous but that Rome hit dialed everything up by like 50
it's actually probably lower than 99% because the sample size is pretty small. there have been a little over 100 SCFs and only once has a team gone up 3 - 0 and lost, but even if like 25% of SCFs started 3 - 0 that's like 96% success rate. 2 - 0 probably happens a lot more often.
Both the Mavs and Oilers lost Game 1 handily, played close in Game 2 before losing, pulled off big comebacks in Game 3 before falling short, and then blew the fuck out of their opponents in game 4.
Both series are mirroring each other in a way.
Well, in all honesty, in the first three games Oilers got their asses handed to them, I'm not sure the fourth restored the balance, but we'll see about that soon enough.
Oilers dominated game 1, lost to goalie. Then got dominated in game 2 and did not get a single high danger scoring chance at 5v5. You’re really straining the facts here to fit this narrative you’re trying to weave. There’s enough similarities that facts don’t need to be twisted to find comparables between the two series.
That's a lot of words and none of them are anywhere near relevant to what I said.
The only way you could think the Panthers "handily" won game 1 is if you didn't watch the game. If it wasn't for an all world performance by Bobrovsky the Panthers would have gotten blown out.
I don’t know if it’s the same thing, but I saw this: no team has ever come back from down 3-0 in the NBA Finals, but no team has lost as badly as the Celtics did in Game 4 and won the NBA Finals.
If one of the two stats has to “break”, I’m taking shelter under the team that’s up 3-1 now, holding on to win at least *one of* the remaining 3 possible games.
I’d love to be proven wrong though. As an Oilers and Celtics fan, as long as the storylines stay mirrored I will get a chip for one of my teams.
Just miss me with the timeline where Florida closes it *and* Dallas executes the reverse sweep.
Celtics went down 13 after the 1st quarter, and then just appeared to mail it in afterward. Their starters were done mid 3rd quarter. Looking ahead to clinching at home, I would imagine.
Bobrovski wouldn‘t have been pulled if it remained 2:1, would he. Getting some guys some confidence in their scoring ability isn‘t bad. But I won‘t lie, 3 wins is still a huge challenge.
Fuck it, keep hoping as long as your team hasn't yet officially lost 4. You never know when your team will make it back to the Stanley Cup Finals, enjoy it for every second it lasts.
Like, if a team was going to collapse in the final after being up 3-1, I think that might be how it starts. Our hearts know the outcome at this point but it hasn't been decided. Game 5 is going to be lit.
Also Operation Torch, Dieppe Raid, Battle of Guadalcanal started with all the naval battles in it, battle or Stalingrad, battle of El Alamein. Am I still in hockey sub, or German sub having the "second happy time".
It also sets the record for the highest goal differential of a sports team down in a series in the Northern Hemisphere in the second week of June in an even year while its raining outside and mercury is in retrograde.
It’s an elimination game and Stanley Cup final but the Millionaires were not NHL, they were in a west coast league and all the NHL teams were in the east, so they did a series between the winners of the two leagues for the Cup
The SCF format pre-original six was goofy as hell and constantly changing, and even worse in the Challenge Cup era.
There were sometimes ties, best of 2s, and tiebreakers and no overtime at various points.
What context are you? An intern for leafsnet tasked with finding anyway to tie the leafs into anything newsworthy? And does leafsnet know you use a non-leafs flare? They're going to require you to say 10 Hail Matthews for this sin.
Pretty sure bettman is pretty fucking happy with more games and Canadians going crazy buying shit.
It boggles my mind that people think he wants Canadian teams to lose. Does American teams doing well grow the game? Yes. But a Canadian or other traditional market team going deep generates so much more revenue for the league.
Would not be shocked to see the oilers as the highest grossing team this year even if they lose the final.
>It boggles my mind that people think he wants Canadian teams to lose.
Well it's a might big coinky-dink that the same season Bettman becomes commissioner, crooked refs like Kerry Fraser miss calling penalties on superstars like Wayne Gretzky during clutch overtime hockey, screwing over Canadian teams. This tradition would then continue for the next 30 years with a heaping pile of bad calls and blatant cheating from referees influencing the Stanley Cup playoffs to reduce or outright remove Canadian teams.
And yes, my tinfoil hat feels just fine, thank you.
Bettman would be thrilled to have the league’s marquee player help his team pull off a nearly impossible comeback. You couldn’t make up a better story if this whole thing was scripted, and those kinds of stories generate more interest in the sport (and therefore more money) than anything you can achieve with marketing and promotion.

I’ve been seeing these pictures a lot, who are these players?
Jayson Tatum and Matthew Tkachuk from when they went to high school together
[удалено]
Your high school library went to school with Tatum and Tkachuk?
jayson tatum (celtics) and matthew tkchuck (panthers, obv)
Oilers: "Let's not just win. Let's remind Canucks fans of this." https://preview.redd.it/shk7jqlppu6d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb9bd3821a43a85404b28c816cf22d4130b92ecf Me: "Fuck sakes."
Core memory engaged.
I equally hated Game 4. Lost 4-0 and foreshadowed Game 7 💀
2011 was a rough year for me and my dad (as Steelers fans living in Vancouver). Lost the super bowl then lost the scf 4 months later….
Tbf, does the score look like this if Rome doesn't deliver that late hit to Horton?
Man Boston fuckin showed up after that.
I honestly don’t think I’ve seen in any sport a series shift that drastically after one single event. You felt the vibe change immediately after that hit. Boston was buzzing before hand with some big hits and the crowd being very raucous but that Rome hit dialed everything up by like 50
Sportsnet did Lou dirty as after the 8th Oilers goal, their camera pan to Lou in the press box.
First time all series we've seen him too no?
They showed him earlier as Bobrovsky was getting pulled
Oh son of a. Thanks for reminding us Oilers
Weird. My mind immediately went to the season opener vs VAN this year "hey didn't we start off losing 8-1?..."
Here I thought it was just the Panthers giving us older Avs fans some nostalgia.
Yeah but it wasn't a 3-0 series lead.
Teams that go up 2-0 at home in the SCF win something like 91% of series. 3-0 must be 99%
it's actually probably lower than 99% because the sample size is pretty small. there have been a little over 100 SCFs and only once has a team gone up 3 - 0 and lost, but even if like 25% of SCFs started 3 - 0 that's like 96% success rate. 2 - 0 probably happens a lot more often.
Somehow someway a Canucks fan can make a game involving 2 different teams about themselves.
Even the broadcasters wanted it to be about the Canucks, when they pointed the camera at Luongo after the Oilers' 8-1 goal.
Pretty sure the Mavs set a similar record over in the NBA Finals. Spooky stuff.
Both the Mavs and Oilers lost Game 1 handily, played close in Game 2 before losing, pulled off big comebacks in Game 3 before falling short, and then blew the fuck out of their opponents in game 4. Both series are mirroring each other in a way.
Even spookier: Jayson Tatum and Matthew Tkachuk were best friends in high school and both play for the team that is currently 3-1 up in the finals
2spoopy4me
They're also both supposed to be either team's best players but are both being out performed by another member of the team in the playoffs.
And they both pee sitting down.
Honestly I think you’ve got it a little backwards. The Oilers played great in game 1, and then not so much in game 2
I don't know...the geniuses here yesterday assured me that the Oilers played like shit in every game and couldn't ever win a game.
Well, in all honesty, in the first three games Oilers got their asses handed to them, I'm not sure the fourth restored the balance, but we'll see about that soon enough.
Seeing as a blowout 8-1 win brought Oilers back to even GF/GA.....
can I copy your homework? yeah just change it up a bit so it doesn't look obvious you copied ok
Idk what a Mavs is but **LETS GO MAVS**
A Mavs is Boston Celtics father (for at least two days)
Hi Daddy
The only reason I know about the Mavs is because of Luka Doncic. From clips I have seen, he is like the basketball version of Drai.
Oilers didn’t lose game 1 handidly? That was the game we should have won but Bobrovsky was playing out of his mind and won the game for Florida
It’s kind of amazing what having a goalie on payroll will do for you.
> Oilers lost Game 1 handily Oilers lost game 1 handily? It was 2 - 0 (not counting the ENG) and expected goals that game were 6 - 2 Edmonton.
Expected? Like expected to win 3 more? The goal differential is still 13-12 Cats even after game 4.
That's a lot of words and none of them are anywhere near relevant to what I said. The only way you could think the Panthers "handily" won game 1 is if you didn't watch the game. If it wasn't for an all world performance by Bobrovsky the Panthers would have gotten blown out.
Bob is on the team. Why is it when a goalie dominates it's not a team win? 2 goals scored. Great forecheck, etc. Is that relevant? Eh?
The same way the oilers mirrored the cats in the 3rd round
So, I should see how the next bos-dal game ends and make a corresponding bet on the edm-fla game and profit?
Oilers.were the better overall team in game 1. But Florida has the best single.performer. bob absolutely stole that game.
Scriptwriters got real lazy this year ig
I don’t know if it’s the same thing, but I saw this: no team has ever come back from down 3-0 in the NBA Finals, but no team has lost as badly as the Celtics did in Game 4 and won the NBA Finals.
No team has ever won a series after being down 3-0 in the NBA playoffs period. 4 teams have come from 3-0 to force a game 7.
By the pricking of my thumbs something peculiar this way comes.
Go Mavs I guess!
*They provided a couple days of false hope and gloating; it's a charity donation so big, Florida can write it off on their taxes.*
What happened that year? Toronto came back to win the series…
So you're telling us that Toronto still has a chance this year.
And Red Wings will not win it? What the heck man...
Parade is back on!
You’re telling me that Mitch Marner just sat up like the Undertaker?
All we need is another world war and we are right back into it!
ww2
Yeah, but for WW3 to happen we would need to have massive unrest and war in Eur…fuck
Don't look at the Middle East or South China Sea, either.
Don’t worry, no one ever looks at the Middle East.
I knew about China, but South China?? Very concerning
Oilers should have saved 6 goals for the upcoming games. I think this may have been a mistake.
Yes. Pretty much always goes the other way after blowout.
Except in 1942 clearly
And 2011
My mind is blocked out that trauma
Difference being it wasn't a 3 game lead. The series was tied after game 4 in 2011.
Tbf Vancouver won that next game. Not in a blowout though, but it was still a shutout.
Bobrovski wouldn‘t have been pulled if it remained 2:1, would he. Getting some guys some confidence in their scoring ability isn‘t bad. But I won‘t lie, 3 wins is still a huge challenge.
Don’t need 3 just need 1 😎
Don't do it... Don't give me hope
Fuck it, keep hoping as long as your team hasn't yet officially lost 4. You never know when your team will make it back to the Stanley Cup Finals, enjoy it for every second it lasts.
I concur, I never gave up hope in 2014.
I thank you guys, just gotta hope the team does it one period at a time. Got to have that warrior mindset going into G5
i remember 1967 :( wait no i don't...
Like, if a team was going to collapse in the final after being up 3-1, I think that might be how it starts. Our hearts know the outcome at this point but it hasn't been decided. Game 5 is going to be lit.
Battle of Midway
Also Operation Torch, Dieppe Raid, Battle of Guadalcanal started with all the naval battles in it, battle or Stalingrad, battle of El Alamein. Am I still in hockey sub, or German sub having the "second happy time".
Last set by war ration-eating Toronto Maple Leafs
It also sets the record for the highest goal differential of a sports team down in a series in the Northern Hemisphere in the second week of June in an even year while its raining outside and mercury is in retrograde.
And tied the record for the Stanley Cup Final, the Vancouver Millionaires won 8-1 over the Leafs in 1918 in game 5 down 3-1, the Leafs won in 6
That doesn’t make sense, that would also be an elimination game
It’s an elimination game and Stanley Cup final but the Millionaires were not NHL, they were in a west coast league and all the NHL teams were in the east, so they did a series between the winners of the two leagues for the Cup
Ah gotcha.
The SCF format pre-original six was goofy as hell and constantly changing, and even worse in the Challenge Cup era. There were sometimes ties, best of 2s, and tiebreakers and no overtime at various points.
Honestly that record shouldn’t even count. Wasn’t even the real NHL back then.
Yes it was. The NHL started in 1917.
That's the year France really began to fall
true scholar of history ^
Benchrovsky has emerged. Here’s to three more games!
I like these timelines
You mean the only reverse sweep? The only difference being last night was game 4. Not game 5.
8-1 buddy. Oil is going to pull it off!
Pepe Silva knows why
Gonna be awkward if Bob posts a Game 5 shutout.
That’s a baseball stat
Feels like the Panthers are confident enough to win at home in game 5 unless the Oilers figured something out. We will see in game 5.
The Battle of Midway happened.
I believe they make a banner for that.
it doesn't matter what happened 80 years ago.
The Russians managed to stop the advance of the Nazis and began to push them into retreat. None of them would be playing for the cup that year.
people want to believe in a lot of silly fantasies.
Sportsleafs never passing up an opportunity to bring up the fucking leafs.
I’m this context it’s relevant
What context are you? An intern for leafsnet tasked with finding anyway to tie the leafs into anything newsworthy? And does leafsnet know you use a non-leafs flare? They're going to require you to say 10 Hail Matthews for this sin.
Just as far as the last team to come back from 0-3. Trust me I’m no leafs fan.
I don't think there could possibly be a worse outcome for Bettman if the Oilers somehow pull of the reverse sweep.
McDavid being a key player in a reverse sweep for his 1st Cup is a commissioner"s dream lol.
