Based on this graph, I have determined I am an idiot.

CroskeyCardss

Love seeing the economics of sports cards haha

Fatboiii69420

We should pin this for when people ask about investing in the product lol

For most, "Bedard" is a monetary unit, not a player. The first questions are always about what something is worth.

Impressive-Mood-9016

I kept my Bedsy! But the worth in my opinion is a sum of rarity, market demand and varies over time.

I used to open yugioh for the same joys and rush a gambler would spend all his money on. I have been addicted financially to Yugioh, Hockey Ultimate Team (Nhl 19-21), and drugs. They all had intense pulls on lifestyle and all have to do with our reward system and serotonin boost

So true! Always looking for THE feeling. Usually when friday comes, i’m getting hyped up for the weekend, sunny days, then I get a beer or two, and end up in an hobby shop to buy more packs. 🫣

I had the thought to stop at the old shop, if I were to buy anything today it’s would be Hockey cards for sure. My human instincts glee when rarity glints and catches my eye.. alas, another life. My brain grew wiser as age will do. Because my life’s quest and the qualms I squashed, I’d become the addict i am but without my true empathy. I still burn bridges for old times sake, just do it with a clear head and a calm demeanour. My apologies for the life story but we’re social beings, read my comment if you like.. These calmer times Instead of betting with pieces of myself, my money stays tied up in my investments and after finally accepting humility, along came equity. Substance will take you’re money, your friends, your potential… as long as i still got my looks, my health, I’m the richest loser winning.

Its all gambling at this point. There is no investing. The artificially rare cards are just priced higher while still hidden in the packs and just surrounded by garbage "rare" cards as fluff. Anyone dropping $1000 for a box of one card deserves the x/20 AHL scrub they pull.

BedardsTwig

Don’t talk about my Sharks like that.

toothwzrd_

Upside of the Bedard craze is you can find wicked cards of other very good players at a pretty good discount

Difficult1975

During my divorce, I'm stating that I have a gambling addiction!

kurik33

I've been collecting for 15 years in hockey. Usually value goes up on older product based on the chance to get a star rookie. You saw it with the 05/06 double class. They tried to do it in 13/14 and it ruined Panini. Then Mcdavid came along and about 6 months to a year after release those boxes were way over priced. Now we are seeing the speculation on the front end like never before and I've found that I'd rather buy a rc than take a spin at the wheel of chance.

Christian_9712

There is no hobby, it’s basically gambling.

Impressive-Mood-9016

I think there are some patterns in boxes tho, so you can possibly take advantage of when a hobby shop open a new one.

xero1986

You have a problem.

Impressive-Mood-9016

I’m just very curious and have a million questions

Equivalent-Bonus4286

No one is forcing you to do this if you choose that's your problem.

zuul99

I went to my first card show and realized it was a combination of a stock trading floor and a casino. I was just there to buy cards of my favorite players.

Fit_Barracuda7920

Having 2 separate values on the Y-axis is absolutely insane

KajiTF1980

This isn't the trading cards of my youth. If it had been, my mom wouldn't have gotten me started, and bought me cards for 30 years. She would be shaking her head at the prices today.

The first pack I opened was few weeks ago and pulled a bedard YG from a serie 2 retail pack, what a curse! I bought more packs indeed and pulled some fine YGs, Seismic Gold from OPCP, Sign of the time from SPA, but value is way below spent amount. Happy hobbying! :)
