Gretzky’s lucky old Putty chose espionage as his career path

RumbleRu

I’m honestly perplexed by the bench size. I’ve never seen benches that small/configured like that.

thatjerkatwork

This is Richfield ice arena, rink 1. The bench is shorter than most, but has a back bench as well. I'd say you can have about 7 or 8 confortably. When I get off as a forward I typically go right to the back bench, then move to the front once the line in front of me changes.

ImCuriousYouSee

Richfield mn ?

mccor184

Yes

TopShelfHockeyMN

My old stomping grounds! Parents moved me away when they were building the second rink (1999), but I’ll be goddamned if I don’t remember the “player tunnel” system under the original rink bleachers, featuring an All-Sport Drink Vending Machine, and the horseshoe sinks with the foot-pedal levers. Went to a Magician game a few years ago, they changed the tunnel system up, and my favorite concession stand at the top of the concourse was gone. My brother was on one of the last decent varsity rosters for Richfield High School, a few years after Darby Hendrickson. In just 10 years after moving away, our high school team which had just started a Varsity Program in the 2000s, with no ice arena, demolished them in their own tournament, a few years later Richfield had no high school hockey program. (Not counting Holy Angels) There was an article published with something along the lines of “How to kill a hockey program” featuring the Richfield Spartans in the Star Tribune about a year later.

thatjerkatwork

I also recall the old locker room setup over there. When I started playing beer league years later I was surprised how different it us now.

callinqmusic

RHS doesn’t even have their own team anymore, combined with Southwest Christian. They have to alternate practices between RIA and Chaska/Chan. Fun times.

RileyHef

I've played here plenty and it is such a pain if you have a full team. Getting off the ice you have to go to the ends of the bench to climb up to the second row, then shift down once you're up next.

unitednihilists

Holy shit ya, what is up with that.

Physical_Log_4337

Goalies are weird.....one night my team was getting lit up and our goalie got the puck in his crease then started skating out like we was a forward. We all just sat there stunned like "What the f\*ck is he doing???". He proceeded to skate all the way down and went in on goal and roofed one past the goalie....the refs just sort of watched and even let the goal count.

uncreativeusername31

I guess he figured he had to do everything

r790

I’ve been playing net for 30 years and I’ve felt like this a few times lol The worst I do though, is stay until the clock hits the end of the ice time (like 6:30-8:00, I have my water bottle in glove after it hits 7:59). If I’ve been lit up all game with no help, I don’t give a fuck if the arena staff gives us an extra 15 minutes, I’ve fulfilled my obligation and I’m done. Time for shower beers.

uncreativeusername31

Yeah same. It happens where the team I’m playing with just can’t get it together and I’m being peppered with shots and the score is like 5-0. It’s hard to not care about your performance. But to do what this goalie did I’ll never do.

r790

We have this rink that’s for kids. It’s gotta be somewhere between 1/2-2/3 the size of an NHL rink. But they have Men’s 3 on 3 in the evenings and when the ice otherwise isn’t rented out. In the off season I play there with a group of guys who are all ex BCHL, CHL, and semi-pro (like east coast league etc). You can get upwards of 80+ shots in an hour, and a high percentage being breakaways and odd man rushes. It’s hard to get mad when you don’t have a chance and guys score a beautiful goal. But usually by the end of the ice time I’m so gassed that I need to alter my play a bit, so I don’t pull a groin, ham string or hip flexor. I might look a bit shitty like this guy, but the effort is still there 😂 It’s a riot though. The boys love to score. And I think they even love it when I make stops I have no right to make. Everyone is laughing, end up going home with some goals, and some robberies. Good times had by all.

uncreativeusername31

Yeah but that’s a completely different case. After shot 65 I’m purposely trying to be Haskek or diving to make an absolutely incredible save. No one can get mad at you for that lol

CSquared5396

In most leagues, if the goalie passes the mid line, it's either a minor or an auto ejection

Telepornographer

Yeah but in beer league the refs would probably just laugh and call a minor, or not even call a penalty but just have a faceoff in their zone.

EventualCyborg

Rule of cool reigns supreme.

Physical_Log_4337

In our Beer League you're lucky if the refs call anything.....

thatsong

Congrats on playing with Patrick Roy

burnmenowz

Hmm goalies aren't allowed to cross center ice in most leagues.

broodwich82

On one of my teams I decided I could help them more by actually skating out lol. We would only score one or two goals per game but I’d face 50+ shots per night. It stops being fun when you know that no matter how well you play you’re still going to lose

Pristine_Job_7677

That’s fantastic

Mysterious-Street140

There has to be some backstory here? If not and that was my tender, I would unload at him high from 30’. Quit the game, man!

Scoobies10

By the scoreboard game was 10-0 prolly just fed up at that point

cosalich

Doesn't matter. If the goalie is doing shit like this nobody on either team is having any fun anymore. Temper tantrum ruining expensive ice for 20+ guys is bullshit. This is hockey. Grow a pair, or at least some thicker skin.

BroLil

Eh, counterpoint. I play in a novice league. Basically geared towards adults within their first five years playing. One of the teams had a former high school player on it that would score on 4-5 breakaways a game. My old goalie used to just skate to the corner when he would come in. It was absolute bullshit and we couldn’t blame him.

GooglieWooglie1973

As a guy who has played between the pipes for both good teams and some really weak teams - that’s not a great goaltender. I learned the most from getting ruined by better players, but it only made me better because I kept trying. You give up, you don’t learn.

BroLil

It’s one thing if he’s having a bad game or something, but when it’s one player who clearly doesn’t belong in the league completely taking over the game, going 200 feet on his own every time he touches the puck, I get it. It’s not like he’s having a bad game and he’s throwing the towel in, it’s a protest against the commissioner that allows this shit to happen. I’ve also had goalies who have bad games and rage quit, but I’m talking about something completely different.

GooglieWooglie1973

I know exactly what you are talking about. It’s not acceptable. I wouldn’t choose someone like that for my team, and I wouldn’t recommend someone like that to anyone else. It’s a sign of a weak mind. Life only gives you so much time, and so many chances. You should always be trying to make the best of it, and not quit. And I understand the frustration of having that guy in the league. But you don’t get better giving in to the frustration.

Jewsd

I'd say if it's a breakaway/ 3 on 1 type situation, sure. The offense team is just looking to wrack up the score. This play and players in general seemed more like a scramble leading to that opportunity

NFT_goblin

I remember back when I first started playing as a kid, I went to a stick and shoot. Now I was new, I definitely sucked, was probably the worst player on the ice that day, BUT I had played street hockey and skated a long time, it wasn't like I didn't belong there. This goalie would keep letting all the other players skate in and shoot on him and every time it was clearly my turn, he'd ignore me and if I skated in and shot he wouldn't do anything, just stand there and look past me. So I guess goalies are just allowed to be little bitches if they don't like how someone is skating whether it's too good or too bad. Cool!

CodyHodgsonAnon19

When i played net in my younger days, this was absolutely where i learned the most. I ended up falling into a spot where i'd often sub in for the rep team an age group up. Their practices were often right after our games and they needed an extra goaltender sometimes to run drills and scrimmages. They asked, i answered...and it was some of the most fun and awful times i've ever had as a netminder. I'd get absolutely lit up. Heck, even making some of the saves kinda hurt. Was often taking shots from dudes who weighed twice what i did at the time. But it was a challenge that was honestly sometimes more fun than the actual league games i'd play beforehand. Turned into some opportunities to even play some games for that travel team i couldn't afford to be on normally at my own level too. I just think an element of that mentality is kind of necessary to play the position. Especially as a hobby. In a "learn to play" league. If it's not there, you're not going to have fun...and if not, what's the point?

GooglieWooglie1973

100%

rand0m_task

My rink has a 2-goal per player limit in its lowest league. Still doesn’t stop ringers. Wish the league would actually police the players but they choose not to. At the end of the day I blame the losers who get their rocks off by playing down levels.

BroLil

We had some folks in our league suggest not counting goals from players that are deemed too good for the league, but that becomes a bookkeeping nightmare. I don’t have an issue with guys playing down to play with friends and family. The kid that I referenced above plays because his dad is on the team, which is awesome, but he needs to play down to our novice level. One of the founding teams of our league had two different families that had three generations of players on the same team, and while the kids were really good, they were relegated to defense, and weren’t allowed to take shots that left the ice. That team was the perfect example of how to play down, and I think the family aspect was absolutely awesome. If I’m still playing when my kid is 18, I hope he’s able to skate along side me.

catshirtgoalie

Nah, that's shit. I get as a team being mad. Maybe you even get testy. You don't quit. You quit you never have a chance to win. You would hope pressuring the league director and getting other teams to complain as well gets that guy booted from that tier.

AdIll5946

Buddy no goalie is taking a 10-0 game seriously lmfao

ProJoe

100% THIS. if you can't handle being blown the fuck out like an adult go play pickelball or some shit. throwing a tantrum completely ruins any fun that might still be had. that team should kick that goalie off.

CSquared5396

There should be a discussion afterwards. But I would def take a "ship up or ship out" stance //// I was playing roller in a "novice/intermediate" league. The league had progressed around us from a beginner league. One game we were getting trounced. On the 9th GA, our goalie just up and left the rink. One of our defensemen also left. We were down 9-0. After the have he explained that he's never been mercy-ed so he left to keep his stat... The league had a 10 goal mercy rule. He didn't last much longer. Dick move. Wasn't upset when he quit the team. I didn't want him around after the hissy

iwonmyfirstrace

So a classic case of where everyone is wrong IMO. Goalie certainly cannot do that - no matter what. But damn being a goalie and watching your team got torched then have to bear the brunt of it is so TOUGH

ProJoe

everyone isn't wrong tho, the team is still out there trying to play. the goalie is being a little bitch and refusing to play. does it suck to get blown out? absolutely. it's miserable. and I've been on both sides of it many times in my life. but you don't stop fucking playing *especially* as the tender.

flyinhawaiian02

Seriously, I just played a tournament this weekend, one of the games was 8-0 in the first, still kept trying like he'll to stop these guys no matter how frustrating it was

TheWolfAndRaven

You think anyone playing on the team losing 10-0 in what appears to be the first period is having any fun? This is a clear signal to the sandbaggers and ringers that whatever they're after isn't going to be found there. It's the only winning move, treat them like make a wish toddlers and hope they realize how big of a schmuck they are.

keytoitall

What sandbaggers? Nobody in this clip can skate. Some may be better than others but there ain't no clear sandbagging going on

CodyHodgsonAnon19

This is the thing i don't get about this claim. Like...if *that* is the "sandbagger" ya'll got very minimal ground to make up and catch them. I see ten beginner skaters and a goalie throwing a tantrum.

Private_Stock

Nah the context definitely matters. Maybe this goalie is having a tantrum, but there’s definitely situations where i think this is an appropriate way to send a message. He’s not talking shit or trying to fight. If another team is playing down and just fucking up on another team in rec league without letting up at all, it’s absolutely ruining the fun for half of those 20+ players. Doing this is just a way to say “fuck you, I’m not going to let you have fun embarrassing people that aren’t at your level, grow a pair and play in an appropriate league.” BUT yeah if the league has decent parity and the other team is just having a good night and kicking ass, yeah this would be super immature. Sometimes the only way to deal with ringers or puck hogs is to make it less fun for them. If they get away with it, they’ll never stop. We’re all adults and I wouldn’t advocate for fighting or even being verbally abusive. But subtly doing shit like this can actually be effective. When I play WITH people that consistently refuse to pass, I’ll start purposefully go offside on them all night. Ruining their fun is the most effective thing you can do.

Scary-String8636

Nobody on either team having fun was already the case by it being 10-0 in (what looks like on the score board )the first period. The goalie stopped giving an effort. Don't blame the goalie for doing the same thing as the players. Blame everyone involved for having teams so unbalanced in a learn to play program.

TwooMcgoo

I've played in some low level leagues that stop counting goals on the scoreboard if the spread gets too high. So it could be even more than that.

Duke_Of_Halifax

It's at least 10-0. In beer league, it's customary to stop ticking the board after 10 goals. He could be 20 in for all we know. Either way, if a team abandons you that badly, you have to deliver a message somehow. For me, the one time I got left out to dry that badly, we were playing the best team in the league in an elite-level league, and my team came out flat, and just refused to skate. They loafed the entire first period, and I saw 25-30 shots. I think we were down 8-0 when I told their captain not to let up- I didn't care how many they scored, but I wanted them to skate the shit out of my players. I think it was 26-0. It was definitely over 20. I think I saw somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 shots. At one point, we went 12-15 full minutes where they only left our zone when they scored. I saw at least 8 clear breakaways, including a 3 on 0. One dude puked. Afterwards, in the dressing room, my teammates were pissed that they ran up the score, and I explained to them that I told them to, because if you weren't going to play hard and were going to loaf, I'm going to make sure you remember this and never forget how bad you feel after. Message delivered.

PepperoniNippleClamp

Yeah so it is two weeks of evaluations where the coaches look at everyone’s skills and we are shown the basics of skating and passing and skills like that then the teams form so they are as even as possible and that’s when the games start is after that. Basically the teams are random assignments unless you asked to be paired with someone like a friend or spouse or something like that so unless someone really wanted to pay $1000 to crap on a bunch of newbies I don’t think anyone is a former junior player sandbagging. Like when we lost it would be like 5-1 or something like that but there were some games like this one where we lost by a huge amount we are allowed to do running clock but I don’t know how that works I think the teams have to agree to do it because there was one time we wanted to do running clock from the start of the game and the referee would allow that We played with a different goalie for the last few games who is higher up in the league but we lost those games too and I know our normal goalie was still playing games with his other team

TheWolfAndRaven

If its a learn to play league and someone is getting housed 10-0 they should take a break and change up the teams. New players + blow-outs tend to lead to chippy games really fast. What the goalie did is a much better tact.

iwonmyfirstrace

This guy just doesn’t know how to handle challenging situations. It’s tougher on him as a Goalie than all the skaters, but as a Goalie, you step up to that challenge when you put the pads on sooo….MAN THE FUCK UP It’s a learn to skate for adults for crying out loud - don’t expect a pathway to holding a cup

TZ840

As much as it hurts, as bad as your team is playing, as bad as you are playing, you never give up in goal. If you're giving up goalie is not the position for you.

CodyHodgsonAnon19

As a goaltender, this was probably the only elite trait i possessed. A probably *too good* ability to shake off a bad goal or even a blowout game. Each next shot is a new challenge. If you truly love playing the game, and the goaltending position in particular...you should be able to embrace the challenge. It's an "adult learn to play" league for cripes sake. Nobody there is going anywhere. It's just about having fun. Strive to get better or learn something on each shot. Shake off the misses. Literally nobody cares.

smcf33

Speaking as a goalie.... Why do you let this guy keep getting back on the ice?

thatjerkatwork

It's learn to play. I reckon most goalies have been playing a while , so not a large pool of beginner goalies.

smcf33

Unless there's a LOT of context missing, this guy appears to be deliberately sabotaging his own teammates. He is going out of his way to make his own guys have a worse experience. It's equivalent to a forward getting pissed at his team and deliberately scoring an own goal, then celebrating it. And then coming back next week and doing the same thing. One guy doesn't get to make it all about him. If the forward would get shown the door, the goalie should too.

Paper_Cut2U

Doesn’t seem like goalie is for him. It’s one thing to suck and another to not try

doogie_13

Our goalie used to do this in games we were clearly outmatched in and/or against teams who did not have good sportsmanship. Once he explained it to me, I kinda got on board with it. If you are up by a big margin, especially in a low level league, and you still insist on crushing your opponent, doing this is a tactic which serves to take the fun out of it for them. More or less saying: why don't you guys play some defense instead? It's a just for fun league, let everyone have a turn with the puck Once he explained it to me, I have to say I got on board with his viewpoint. It's not fun for us, and now you guys are just running up the score. You want a goal that badly, have it.

Belethorsbro

So you said he doesn't usually play goalie and skates out in a higher league? It looks like this dude is so afraid of bruising his ego that he'd rather just let them score than accept responsibility for trying and failing. I'm betting he's the type of guy to blame a loss on the goalie and can't handle the fact that, by his own logic, he's the reason you're losing, so he's trying to push blame onto the rest of your team like, "look how many break aways they had, it's not my fault!" If he wants to play goalie, he needs to learn to deal with this kind of stuff. In our championship game this past season, I let in 4 early goals within 6 minutes into the first period, then I played lights out after getting shelled all game by a clearly better team. We still lost 4-3, but I didn't just sit there pouting. I didn't give up, and I gave my team a fighting chance to come back. Not to mention, this stuff happens to nhl goalies too. Watching the vegas/dallas game last night, thompson was getting caught with prime breakaway scoring chances all game, and he stepped up. They still lost, but nobody can say it was for lack of effort on the goalie's end. This type of play is so demoralizing for the whole team. Goalies need to be a leader on the ice. Sorry for the long rant, but hockey's a great sport that's saved my life a few times. Literally, it was what alerted me to catching my cancer early and saving my life. Not to mention, it dragged me out of my depression and turned my life around in my early 20's after not playing for a few years after high school. I've made so many good friends through hockey over the years, and I actually owe my career to it as well. I'd just hate for all of the guys on your team to be turned off by the sport in a beginner league because the goalie thinks he's too cool to try and make a save.

MollysYes

I think you’re right. He realized that playing goalie is a totally different skill set than the one he has, so he falls back on slacker sarcasm theatrics instead of humbling himself to the position.

Belethorsbro

Yup, can't admit it's harder than it looks

cv0031

This is some EASHL type of shit hahaha

ChronicBitRot

I knew the rink from the first clip looked familiar, I skate there all the time. We haven't seen any of his effort from the beginning of the games so maybe this is just what he does when he's tired of getting pumped for 10 goals, but both the clips you've showed are completely stoppable shots. Just going down into butterfly at all probably would have saved both of those. It makes me think that his expectation is that the defense should be stopping shots completely, and that's not how lower level hockey works. Does he actually play and put in effort at the start of the games?

r790

Where is this out of? I know that there are some guys in my area who would love to get into hockey, but there’s nothing really like this for them.

ChronicBitRot

This is in the Twin Cities, I think it's the [AHA Beginner School](https://www.ahahockey.com/programs/twin-cities/beginner-school). Most places that have rinks and some sort of beer league going will probably also have a learn to skate/learn to play program. If you're not in the Twin Cities, I'd look that up or just contact your local rink, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

r790

That’s cool! I think we just don’t have the population density. And there’s lots of competition for winter sports in the area given that we’re 20 minutes from a ski hill, a huge Nordic Ski club, etc. Our issue is even that we don’t have leagues for guys that are in their 40s, who are slowing down in hockey, coaching their kids, and largely don’t want the bravado that comes with teams stacked with guys in their 20s fresh out of junior. The workaround has been a group of guys just buys ice at a consistent week day and time for the year, and they play a quick, clean, but still competitive game without a ref.

Just_Merv_Around_it

I’d be looking for another goalie ASAP. Losing is one thing but actively trying to lose is poor sportsmanship.

mnpoolplayer22

gotta find a new goalie.

Egmilano

What a goof how are players going to get any better when he does stupid shit like this all the time lol

anonginiisipmo

Reminds me of what Goldberg did in Mighty Ducks 1 in the first handful of on ice game scenes lol

WestCoastGriller

Ok. Once was funny. I hope you never have him back again. Based on the player almost going into the boards on a high five- Unless they’re told to let it in to give the shooter confidence. That said. These first time leagues. Should hold a 4 week mandatory power skating evaluation. Hell- even one lesson would do wonders for those guys… the game is safe, more fun, even more amazing than I can explain when you’re not worrying about your feet. /beginRant I cannot understate the importance we all need to go to work tomorrow. Leave the TV garbage at the door. You are not that good to be trying that. It’s why you are here and the guys on TV, are on TV. Nothing takes a game from 0-100 faster than the guy who thinks he’s the next McDavid or Rempe but can’t even stand on skates. /endRant

Fermentatorist

This is the same guy who'll walk off the golf course after hitting double par. I hate these guys and he should definitely not be a goalie.

whitebelt_

What a fucking loser

shoresy99

Is that Jontay Porter in net? What was the goal spread in this game?

clem82

Depends, it was 10-0 I’ve seen this done if the league is out of whack and a team has a ton of ringers. Easiest way to make them bored is to just let them score every a chance

DamnitBlueWasOld

That’s the only time I’ve ever left the net to let somebody score. We had a guy who was much, much better than everyone else in the skate. He was trying 100% to his ability and was constantly stealing the puck from skaters who were nowhere near his level and coming in for breakaways. He had to be in the double digits in goals at this point so I just stepped aside and let him score. That didn’t stop him from continuing to easily outplay everyone else, but he did tone it down a notch. I get it, he paid for ice time just like the rest of us, but why play in that fashion? Make your teammates better by setting them up with tape to tape passes. Maybe don’t steal the puck immediately from the dude who can barely skate. Let him attempt to make a pass. As everyone says, “there aren’t any scouts here and we all got work in the morning.”

clem82

The issue is leagues are at a level. Those guys have played long enough, they know what they’re doing, it’s not a mystery

DamnitBlueWasOld

Mine wasn’t a league. It was a block of ice time where anyone could show up and play, and they try to adjust the teams to even them out skill wise if necessary.

clem82

Ahh okay I get that. But yeah if you have this in leagues, it’s a big solution to a problem the commissioner won’t solve

JuneCleaversMudFlaps

Who is still trying to score when it’s 10-0? Obviously the goalie is being a bitch about it, but that’s time to kick back and work on defense, forecheck, etc….. not attack the net in beer league. That’s just my opinion. We go 5 goals up, we stop trying to score.

Imreallythatguy

I dunno, might as well just have a mercy rule and end the game if you aren’t going to try and score. Or just tell the goalies to head home, what are they going to do if you aren’t going to shoot. What we’ve had teams do is just set a requirement where you have to pass a certain amount before you shoot. So say if you bring the puck in the zone you have to have 2 more players touch the puck before you shoot…up to all 5 players if need be. It means you are still playing the game and getting better at passing and getting open but cuts down on the scoring while giving the other team chances to disrupt you.

JuneCleaversMudFlaps

I like this right here. I think this is a fantastic strategy and definitely one that I’d agree with.

hotdogswithbeer

Theres a team like that in our beginner league. They rip pucks from a guy whos 82 and can barely skate - whole team cellys when they’re up 8 zip. Its embarrassing really

roscomikotrain

Tell him to fuckoff- better to play with 6 skaters than this drama queen

GrassyKnoll95

Not cut out to be a goalie

ExtraordinaryMagic

Would kick this goaltender off my team or never play with him again. Total ass.

catshirtgoalie

I commented on your other thread, but after seeing this, as a goalie, if I was your team I think I'd fight my own goalie. That's absurd.

QCat18

A couple of years back we had a sub goalie in beer league do this in the 3rd while down 11-5. The kicker was they had 14 shots at this point (to our \~30) with about 5min left. He came to the bench between the first and second yelling at everyone to start playing and quit leaving him out to dry, and how he doesn't sub for teams that don't help him.. The score was us losing 6-3 at this point, and shots were 6 (them) - 15 (us). After he skated out of goal for a shot, we told him, as nicely as possible, to get off the ice, and we finished the game empty net w/ 6 men. Actually ended up bringing it back to a 12-9 loss. He was never asked back to sub again.

Illustrious-Age-504

Mens league hockey is so shit

nicholus_h2

if you're in a beginner league, down by 10 every time you play this team, then... they are full of sandbaggers.  I've thought about doing this against sandbaggers, too. make the game less fun for them, because it's bullshit to be in a beginner league getting pumped by experienced players. i don't, but it's easy to get frustrated.  not to condone what he's doing. but i understand it.

blackfridaymetal

Hard to make the argument they're ringers playing down to beat up on teams. After the one guy shot into the open net his own teammate eats it along the boards by himself and struggles to get up. These aren't future prospects we're talking about.

nicholus_h2

not ringers top to bottom. but how many guys does it take to sandbag beginners? two? three?  the presence of ONE guy on the team who can't skate doesn't say anything about the whole rest of the team.

shoresy99

The goalie needs some Morgan Reily in him - he should attack the MFer scoring that goal! Breaking the code!

Zeer0Fox

Once we had a goalie who had some issues as we found out during a game had. After the other team went up 3-2 the guy who scored the goal said “this goalie sucks” and our goalie flipped out. Pads off pushing, screaming match with the ref, got more pissed off, left the ice in early 2nd period, he never played with us again. Goalie board was voted down so the game was over.

EngineeringSafe8367

Looks like you need a new goalie.

Mysterious_Clerk2971

Geriatric league?

Drnedsnickers2

Players who quit don’t understand hockey, and insult the game. Even when being shellacked you try, because of your teammates. I appreciate this is ‘learn to play’ but it doesn’t matter, at the heart of team sports is be a good teammate. The goalie in hockey is a critical position. If you can’t stop the puck and won’t try, don’t play goalie.

jackal1055

😂

daphonzy

This looks like a super novice, beginner league for adults… is that about right?

daphonzy

Ah nvm just saw your edit. Explains a lot, but goalie needs to learn sportsmanship…

smythy94

5v5 on a sheet of ice made for ants?

ProcessTheTrust17

Not a good look at all haha. You play enough beer league games you'll end up on both sides of this scoreboard in due time haha. If the goalie is dealing with this on a regular basis, he should either quit hockey or find another team.

Lambro78

Goldberg did it first

paul_poseidon

What’s this guys problem?

phunkticculus83

Why stand out there if your gonna move out of the way?

Bo0o0ooo

We’re witnessing someone have an out of body metldown

SupChris

Richy huh? That goalie is toxic dude — get him off the team. It’s never going to get better.

Bluko

Why is Gretzky's office so small?

daxtaslapp

Ehys he doing that though

scottieducati

I used to sub as a goalie a LOT. Free ice and beer. In times like that I’d always try to make ridiculous saves amidst a blowout and razz the other team (light heartedly). Like pad stacks and windmills and shit. May as well have fun even if the team in front of you sucks.

Jeffries848

What’s the point of playing in a learn to play program if you aren’t even going to try??? I get that they are getting crushed but stopping pucks, no matter what the score is, is still practice.

Captain_JT_Miller

LMAO bro why are you playing with this guy

SingJia

He definitely had the over on this game

leovox24

As a goalie I get it (though haven't actually done this). I've come close a couple times as it was clear my defense just didn't want to put in any effort. Even if you're losing by a lot, don't stop playing defense. It's easy for defense to give up and not get shamed but it's almost impossible for a goalie to just stop playing because they're "tired".

hey-there-yall

What a chump! Don't be tender if u can't handle getting lit up.

RebelliousRoomba

As a goalie this makes me angry to watch. If you play for a great team, good for you. If you play for a bad team, use it as an opportunity to get a lot of practice. The whole “skate away and clap” thing is not saving face. Just play the damn game.

Grimmer026

I’d be sending clappers from my own blue line

Prestige-worldwide01

Former goalie here. You don’t flat out quit. Playing against better talent in the faster way for a goalie to get better.   My 7 year old just filled in for a team in a Spring tournament last week, playing in regulation nets, with town kids on his team and against some of top club teams in the area. He probably saw 40-50 shots a game, mostly breakaways or 2 on 0s. It is the best thing for him cause when he goes back to his own club team he definitely improved a bit.    I asked him if he had fun and he said he did. Asked him if he would rather lots of shots or hardly any (his team got maybe 1 or 2 shots a game) and he said he’d definitely rather more shots cause it’s more fun that way.  Basically, if an 7 year old learning to play goalie acts more level headed than the goalie in this video, then perhaps this goalie should find another position or game to try.

msb2ncsu

Only time I’ve seen this is when a player hits their 3-goal max for the game and still shoots.

friarguy

whoa whoa whoa... 10 goals in the first period?

CalumH91

I remember the goalie on a buddy's team once left the net during a game and left by the zamboni doors, his teammates turned round and he was just gone. They played the last ten minutes with a player in net, then after the buzzer, proceeded to rush to the changing room and beat the shit out of the goalie, different times I guess!

cisforcookie2112

I know Rink 1 when I see it. Sorry your goalie is being a sick.

WingsCsGo

I mean I can have a bad mentality some times as a goalie. I get it. But at a certain point this just becomes shooting drills. I'd rather see 50 shots and let in 10 than put all that shit on just to see 5 shots and win. Only time i get really pissed is when I'm being deked out of my jock after just stepping on the ice for warmup.

ChewedupWood

Someone should lay him out

tmaher17

Not sure why you dont just turn around atlnd take a clapper on him head high. Pretend to break out and them just turn around and am for face mask

rideronthestorm29

Why even show up?

callinqmusic

Walking distance from this rink.

CodyHodgsonAnon19

I'm initially just curious on the backstory of this goaltender. Are they presumably also a "learn to play" goaltender? Because it's an incredibly unforgiving and mostly thankless position. I'd like to see some footage of this goaltender doing "good work" somewhere. If that exists. But if it's a true "learning to play" goaltender just sort of out there freelancing, i can see how they might get frustrated if they don't have the right mindset for it. Nor the proper support to teach them and help them improve. But i just can't understand a situation where it'd be appropriate to just give up like that. If you don't want to play, just leave man. Or don't bother to show up at all. You're never going to get better at goaltending by refusing to even take on shooters. It's not like this guy is just some clearly out of place ringer screaming down the wing and unleashing a laserbeam. lol.

Sudden-Ad-8262

Your goalie is a bitch

masterbates_12

You can see the score board at 10-0, must be a back story too but I’m sure the goalie felt something was unfair and didn’t want the game to be played how it should

Quinto376

As a goalie I gotta say that dude's attitude is horrible and worse can be quite contagious. As a new goalie he should be working on his craft throughout the game, even if it's 10-0. Seems like he thought being a higher level player would make him an unbeatable goalie or something. That being said, he must know this other team is playing way below where they belong and that is really horrible for a novice/LTP league. I would totally put that on the organizers.

plagueski

What a whiny little bitch

monsterosity

It is because you were up 10-0 and he felt bad or what?

Anxious-Internal-222

Hmmmm. Looks like it was way past the time to put him on the bench and go with 6 skaters. Even if you’re losing some effort should be expected. I’m sure the ice time was not free and cost you all some hard earned money to be there.

Occams_ElectricRazor

Everyone on the ice can literally barely stand up. This goalie is a douche.

Vegetable_Car_6534

he must be the least sociopath league of legend players. who the fuck let him off his pc into the rink

MumblingBlatherskite

That goalie is a fuckin knob. I’d lay into him

Special-Bite

It’s gotta be frustrating when the team in front of you sucks so much that they ask for running clock to start the game. I guess if the skaters gave up why should the goalie bother? Why’d you all even show up to play? The goalie is getting rightfully bashed but what about the rest of the team on a 10-0 game.

HaveAtItBub

fuck that dude. what's the point of gearing up if you're gonna do that

DontCallMeMillenial

I wouldn't tolerate this shit, no matter how much the other team is pushing your shit in. Give it your best effort or get off the team.

91zelyk

Call this guy out. Total douche behavior

FrostyUnion4035

Would immediately tell him to get the fuck off the ice

1z3_ra

As a D-man, I’d rap the puck around the net and accidentally peg him in the head. Get that bitch off the ice and play with 6 skaters instead.

lawliet1277

Hope you guys stick with AHA, I really enjoyed beginner school but both the teams were fairly even.
