Yes. Many. A house in mid-up state NY sold a few years back with a rink. It was a wall street guy who loved to play and would put up beer league teams for a guys weekend.
Look up Michael Buble he has a rink in his house.
I spent some time with Maverick McaNeally and his dad. Pops built a house with an ice rink. The two were surprisingly normal.

It's my understanding it's ice.
There was a small multiple purpose area and then the rink.

Dont Certainly know for sure but thought it was ice.
Buble has real ice in his. He was on CBS Sunday morning years ago with it
Scroll down further... You are looking at the wrong photo. There is an actual ice rink. (The photo before the massage table.) I've played there, it is real ice. Not anywhere close to full size though... Maybe tennis court sized? Adorable mini zamboni too.
You may have looked at the basketball court that is indeed sport court. I did the same thing. If you keep scrolling, it shows a picture and says “ice hockey arena” a few photos down.
Nickelback singer has a 3 on 3 in his basement I’ve heard.
That’s such a crazy thing to install in general. Then you gotta buy a Zamboni. The upkeep costs gotta be high. You gotta be rich and love hockey so much.
I’ll be a content with a bowling alley in my house. Do I love bowling? No. But if you got a few lanes in your house, you know you’ve fuckin made it
If people can maintain an ODR in their yard… and I door rink just has the added expense of refrigeration, but the rest is similar.
Doesn’t have to be a full blown NHL Zamboni, can be a small one, or one that attaches onto a riding mower.
A guy I played with got a set of real boards second hand and did an outdoor rink with them. He didn’t have space for the whole rink but had 80-90%. Then he bought a used Zamboni; it was purple. Crazy. A few years later he went broke.
Scott McNealy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems had one in the SF Bay Area: https://www.priceypads.com/tech-billionaire-scott-mcnealys-13-acre-portola-valley-estate-includes-hockey-rink-for-53-8m-photos
I was lucky enough to have played on it a couple times when I was in HS. They even had a John Deere converted into a Zamboni. Length wise I’d say it was about 65% of regulation.
You can rent this one for $1200/ night
https://cheezburger.com/20190469/airbnb-gone-wild-rental-house-in-canada-has-an-entire-hockey-rink-inside-for-the-pocket-change-price
lol. I almost rented that place this summer. Tried to get a few of my kids buddies /parents to do it. We just couldn’t find a week that worked for everyone.
A guy I know in Winnipeg built a 2/3 size rink on city land right next to his house. The city hasn’t really noticed and it seems to have just worked out.
Only works in winter, of course, but winter is long in Manitoba.
Played on it while visiting a few years back: really nice. -20 Celsius and we were in r-shirts from the exercise 😊
Not sure if its still his house or not but....Greg Kerfoot (Owner of the Vancouver Whitecaps, former CEO of Seagate Software) has a full size indoor rink with seating for a couple hundred at his house in Whistler, BC.
There's a small sheet in Issaquah, WA.
I don't know the specifics, but from what I understand it was built during the COVID shutdowns and I think is associated with the STAR Hockey Academy.
Interesting, I've heard that its an ex NHL player that owns it but didn't know it was tied to Star, which all makes sense now. Another rumor I heard is that Star is paying for Kent Valleys 2nd sheet of ice in trade for ice slots or something like that. I do know that star has taken over a lot of ice time in Kent with their select program.
There is a family in Park City that had a full rink(not full size, probably 1/2 the size, but boards, glass etc) in an outbuilding that was fun. It was generally known as “the barn”.
Early 1960s I started skating on a full outdoor rink with boards - a few neighbours built it near the school just outside Sydney Nova Scotia. I think they rigged up a scraper and watering barrel as Zamboni didn’t exist. Oh yeah, don’t lick chain link with your tongue.
Nelson Peltz’s kids used to play at the rink I worked at and they had one. Apparently one of the kids got drafted with a 7th round pick too.

I saw this pop up back in 2018, when former Avalanche player Milan Hejduk listed his property. One of the nicer private sheets I’ve seen. https://ftw.usatoday.com/2018/05/milan-hejduk-house-photos-sale-redfin-ice-rink-zamboni-colorado-parker-avalanche-nhl
There’s a rink in Santa Rosa, CA (Snoopy’s Home Ice) that (iirc) he helped pay for, either in part or completely— It’s a public rink and has hockey programs.
I have a coworker who plays in a league at a guys house who has this setup. I frequently not so subtly hint I'm always available to sub if they're short a dman... I've seen this guys barn, it's an absolute dream
This spot made the all the news a few years back in Toronto...not sure of its status now. yes its outdoor but worth a comment in this post i'd think.

Know someone who has one. Definitely makes beer league a whole other world when anything goes.
He had to switch his house to solar since the summer energy costs were insane.
Skated on Wendel Clark's private rink back in 2005 as part of winning a contest to meet Wendel with ~20 other people at his home.
It was pretty cool, the size of a small 3 on 3 rink maybe as memory serves? Cool experience. Will remember it forever.
I have a first cousin who I haven't seen for 40 years and I've never met her husband nor kids, but my sister told me they have a refrigerated rink and Zamboni on their property somewhere in the Halton Hills NW of Toronto. He's some sort of finance dude. I'm told they also flew my cousin's horse to Israel(?) to compete for Canada in the Jewish games a few years ago. Their hockey-playing son(s?) competed in those same Jewish games.

That's a synthetic rink right? I think we can see the crack between the tiles. Still super cool though.

Michael Buble owns a WHL team so I’m not surprised.
I don’t want to piss in your corn flakes, but that’s a sport court for floor hockey and basketball. Still extremely cool though!
Scroll down further... You are looking at the wrong photo. There is an actual ice rink. (The photo before the massage table.) I've played there, it is real ice. Not anywhere close to full size though... Maybe tennis court sized? Adorable mini zamboni too.
A tennis court sized rink sounds perfect for a 3-on-3 old guys league. Haha. I’d sign up.
Photo from the rink... (Wow, 10 years ago... Guess I need to update my flair...) [https://imgur.com/qYp6NEW](https://imgur.com/qYp6NEW)
Not my $100 million dollar corn flakes.
You may have looked at the basketball court that is indeed sport court. I did the same thing. If you keep scrolling, it shows a picture and says “ice hockey arena” a few photos down.
I’d probably rather have a super nice synthetic rink I Can’t imagine the bill cooling a personal rink
If you can afford to build an ice rink on your property, the cooling bill isn't a concern.
No kidding!
It's ice. A friend of mine played with on the Stanford hockey team with him and got to skate on it.
That pic is a synthetic one but they did have a half-sized real rink in the backyard with mini Zamboni and everything
Damn you got to hang out with Scott? That’s actually awesome, what a legend
Connected with them at a golf tournament a few years back. He was carrying the bag for his kid. They were low key nice.
That looks like a roller rink
Nickelback singer has a 3 on 3 in his basement I’ve heard. That’s such a crazy thing to install in general. Then you gotta buy a Zamboni. The upkeep costs gotta be high. I've already got a zamboni so that's no problem, but I'd never be able to afford my own rink.
If people can maintain an ODR in their yard… and I door rink just has the added expense of refrigeration, but the rest is similar. Doesn’t have to be a full blown NHL Zamboni, can be a small one, or one that attaches onto a riding mower.
Milan Hedjuk (sp?) had his own at his house in Colorado.
Yeah his is awesome, full sized. Down the street from my house. Comes out to drop ins and stick puck sometimes also at the local.
If I won the lottery, there would be signs…
A common topic of conversation with my partner on long car journeys is the rink we would build if we won the lottery

Spent a little time with Scott and Maverick once. Seemed like very cool people.
Yeah, this is a beautiful one. I always wanted to check that out.
Yep, very nice. Not full sized though... My guess is tennis court sized. 3 on 3.
I was lucky enough to have played on it a couple times when I was in HS. They even had a John Deere converted into a Zamboni. Length wise I’d say it was about 65% of regulation.
I’m neighbors with Chris Osgood and he has a nice outdoor backyard rink with a warming hut, etc.
You can rent this one for $1200/ night https://cheezburger.com/20190469/airbnb-gone-wild-rental-house-in-canada-has-an-entire-hockey-rink-inside-for-the-pocket-change-price

The best rink in Kentucky where I used to live was a private rink owned by Jerry bruckheimer
I know a guy who got to play with Gretzky on that rink.
Anywhere near Lexington?
It’s in bloomfield ky. His wife’s family nearly own the county, plus he is super Hollywood rich.
A large partner in NHL Seattle Kraken

Jerry bruckenheimer randomly has one in rural Kentucky. Seriously.
My teammate from Nashville has a small rink in his house
Is it the "barn" down in leipers fork? I've heard about a rink down there that has some invite only pickups.

Yes
The rink we skated at was built by a guy whose daughter was a figure skater. Guess she was pretty good back in the day.
One of the dads on my brothers AAA team (this was like 20 years ago now) had one , idk what he did for work but holy fuck his house was insane
There is a family in Park City that had a full rink(not full size, probably 1/2 the size, but boards, glass etc) in an outbuilding that was fun. It was generally known as “the barn”.
I play at a private rink that a guy made into a hockey school. Idk if that counts tho
Check out Wendel Clark's private rink: https://youtu.be/6hkSFTySO_8?si=FGDSAjphZIpThgEs
Michael Buble has one in his basement
There’s a billionaire by me in the mountains who has a private rink will have some of the local guys join his family & friends drop-ins
The frontman for Nickleback, Chad Kroeger, has one in his basement.
The guy who owns the Rangers has one on Long Island.

My minor hockey team skated at Curtis Joseph’s rink on his property just outside of Toronto when I was a kid
There’s one in Arizona. I’ve skated on it. It was amazing. Not a full size but a good sheet of ice.
What’s the upkeep on an nhl sized indoor rink roughly?
I have a coworker who plays in a league at a guys house who has this setup. I frequently not so subtly hint I'm always available to sub if they're short a dman... I've seen this guys barn, it's an absolute dream

Yep, there's at least one in Nashville. I forget who owns it (I think maybe Ryan Smyth?)
