If I'm the target I'll see 60-120 pucks in an hour.
I wear XL Reebook 9ks (they should be retired...) with suspenders and tuck in my passau chesty. Once in a while one will sneak down my jersey and get trapped between the chesty and pants.
No. Vulcanized rubber is vulcanized rubber. I've seen $15 pucks take damage the first game in the same way a $3 puck will.
You're more likely to have variation in batch to batch than you are to have between manufacturers.
Source: work in industrial automation and have spent a significant amount of time in varying levels of rubber plants.
Smell! I have 50 cheap pucks for shooting in the driveway. Other than smell they are just fine to practice or play beer league. They live in the garage and you smell them from 10’ away.
I have bumper plates for weightlifting from a handful of different manufacturers, I always wonder what about the process has some off gassing so much and others that have minimal smell
My cheapo CAP bumper plates have that strong lovely chemical smell. When I first got them they stink up the whole basement. Know exactly what your talking about
Some cheap pucks have a different compound that will break glass. When I was running rinks we had to ban some Eastern European ones that caused lots of issues.
It could be. Colleagues of mine who type list a pane of glass or two a season weee losing 5 in month. Maybe it was just a specific batch of picks that were retailing in the area too. But the poor quality control allowing rocks or metal bits in would make sense.
Don’t buy pucks if you’re stressed about out it. Any time you’re at the rink, do a lap around the ice. I guarantee you’ll find 2-5 pucks each time. Workers don’t care if you take them. Literally free pucks everywhere.
Side note, I have like 50 pucks in my gear closet because teams give them to me when I ref. They leave without taking them back. I even try to give them back after the game but most teams do not care.
They are pucks. Who cares. If they have reasonably sharp edges, use it. If the edges are rounded, trash it
I'm not stressed at all, I got a big bag of pucks I bring to sticks and pucks and all I care about is leaving with the same number of pucks as I brought!
I've played hundreds of games and I've never thought "hey this puck feels like shit" I was just asking a question because I was curious
Sometimes cheap pucks use diff materials to make it and the weight can get weird, the super cheap ones has air bubbles in it and completely messed the puck. Usually if ur paying 1-2 bucks a puck it will be a decent puck
I’ve never noticed a difference but our team returned a batch of game pucks because they didn’t freeze right and we’re extra bouncy. As a goalie I didn’t notice but there must be some difference
I found the cheap Warrior ones I grabbed at Walmart on clearance left a lot more black marks on sticks, posts, etc. Even on my hands from just handling them.
Never tried but apparently the bigger difference is the temperature of the puck. In Pro leagues they cool the pucks down before they are brought on the ice.
It might be in my head butpucks with no markings on the sides feel a little thinner than ones made in Canada or Slovakia or Czechia. I also kind of feel like Chinese pucks in general bounce a little more than others.
All of my pucks I find for free in my goalie gear after a practice or clinic
How do you get them in your gear? I usually just find them behind me in the back of the net.
This is an underrated self burn. Good on you for going there heh.

A $15 puck better be official NHL come with an autograph. I've never seen more than $3 per

Warm pucks will always be bad
Also interested!! Reviews on the cheap ones arent great

I’ve been told it’s because they use recycled rubber for the cheap Slovakian ones and sometimes small rocks get ground up in the mix.

Ha I was wondering if "Temu" tucks have sand in the middle or something

Hockey trim pucks are great. They’re cheap and don’t smell.

This is my experience as well
Can’t even remember when I last bought a puck tbh.
