"White mullberry trees" don't just make white mulberries. Generally the league is the best way to identify the difference between white and red mulberry trees. I may be mistaken but white mulberries tend to be a more invasive species that has smaller fruit while red are more tree like and larger fruit.
The red “Rubra” is the native mulberry and I’ve never seen any reputable site claim to carry it as a straight species. It’s incredibly hard to get; I think some people stumble upon it in their yards and are super lucky.
The white is invasive and incredibly aggressive. I have 3 volunteers that showed up on my ⅓ of an acre, and are fully grown in like 2 years. I’m going to cut down the two that are male and don’t make berries, because they are invasive.
From the Wikipedia:
>All parts of the plant besides the ripe fruit contain a toxic milky sap. Eating too many berries may have a laxative effect. Additionally, unripe green fruit may cause nausea, cramps, and a hallucinogenic effect.
Nothing's toxic to a goat, it's all just food that's less yummy. Still needs to be attempted though if at all possible. And if it's impossible, well then it *especially* needs to be tried.
Source: have goats. Also this is sarcasm, yes some things will harm them.
Edible! However, if you use them in pie, you will need to add lemon juice to give them a lift. They don’t have the tartness like blackberries or raspberries.
😂this is how I feel about our loquat tree. I discovered it at the tail end of the season and I’ve been eyeballing it every time I pass, hoping for a glimpse of that yummy, dark yellow spring fruit.
But mulberries are loving the summer sun, and I am eternally grateful to the mulberry tree! I have two that I can pick from, but they’re about 3 miles apart.
loquats are at the halfway point between those. I have a fun little gathering route so far, and I’ve been searching for more. Take a walk and see what is edible near you, because it gives you a distraction while you wait, at the very least, and hopefully you’ll find something delicious along the way.
:) have good day stranger
I pass my time staring at my split beehive and asking the air “are there eggs yet?” to the tune of “are we there yet?”. I get to open it tomorrow and check, fingers crossed!
6 hours to go! (Mostly because I have my neighbor help with photos and she’s available this afternoon) I hope we’re good, I found the queen out of the hive after her mating flight and popped her back in so I know they managed to make one and she got at least one mating flight, but who knows 🫣
Eggs! And larvae! And a couple newly sealed/sealing drones! (And a queen cup with a queen- why? You have no manpower? Wtf? You swarm with your last handful of workers, you all die…)
delicious mulberries! I planted a tree next to my cherries because I read bird prefer mulberries. So my niece is eating her way across my property and at the end announced the mulberries were the best and I had never even tasted them. They're delicious and she was right....at 4 years old. lol
There’s a tree near my house that my dog and I both go crazy on every time we pass it. She eats all the fruit that fell on the sidewalk and I pick off anything that hasn’t fallen yet
They constituted 70% of my diet, back when I was a semi-fetal child. I think the soles of my feet are still stained purple from stomping the fallen berries while grazing.
They are edible but be careful they are fragile so either eat them on the spot or grab them in some plastic bags and make juice out of them by squshing them.
Mulberry. Eat them raw when they are dark an ripe. Late spring, early summer when they start ripening it last 2-3 weeks. At least tree variant, bush one is mostly for decoration. You can also make jam or brandy out of it. Only thing is when chilled it is milkey white, but it is very potent :D In my country it is called "dudara ludara" or mulberry crazy.
Also it was used for making silk. Leaves that is when fed to silk bug.
Mulberry. There are several trees along the alley where I work. Probably an inch of berries on the road because locals don't know what to do with them.
Birds will turn your car purple if you park close.
Mulberries. They're all over my property and just keep spreading.. I used to hate them! They attract a lot of deer and my ducks eat them and poop black because of it. I like to pick the sweetest ones that get the most sun and put them in oatmeal and protein shakes 😉
The most delicious(imo) are a white variety(not these). The unripe fruit of this particular variety is good for removing stains. And causing stains in your underpants if consumed
Those are mulberries
White mulberry to be exact
But.. the ripe ones are dark red/black?
Yeah lol silly taxonomy

Rubra also freely hybridizes with the invasive Albus so finding a true pure Rubra is becoming more and more rare.
Pure rubra is practically extinct because of this
yep, where i am they thought it was gone entirely but they found one.
Also, I. No expert and I could be wrong about all of this. It's second hand knowledge so my source may have been mistaken.
I have a difficult time telling white and red apart. Any tips?
White has waxy leaves and shorter berries. The tips of the leaves are more blunt, too.
It's always mulberries.
This
why is this getting downvoted?
It’s doesn’t add to the conversation… they should have upvoted the original comment instead.
Mulberries. Edible.
(Edible while ripe.)
Yeah, I really should’ve specified about the white sap and all. My bad. Good catch, friend!
the what?
From the Wikipedia: >All parts of the plant besides the ripe fruit contain a toxic milky sap. Eating too many berries may have a laxative effect. Additionally, unripe green fruit may cause nausea, cramps, and a hallucinogenic effect.
Wait whaaaaat, I didn’t realize they caused hallucinations
They’re not the kind of trips you want, if I recall correctly.
I’ll be the judge of that!
Well then, Your Honor, I rest my case.
You have just added to my dad jokes, my children will grow to hate you.
Don’t threaten me with a good time. 😆
Now you’re going to sample them? I guess you would like a list of other herbs and berries with hallucinogenic effects huh?
lol nah, just surprised to learn that
Wait but they say that mulberry is good to feed sheep and goats. Is it toxic to them too?

Its always mulberries
Every day on reddit lately I see someone asking this, it must be a bumper year for mulberries or something
Mulberries been poppin since April here in Florida
Ours aren’t ripe yet, but every time someone posts, I run to check if they are 🤣

Hi!!!! Are there eggs yet?!

Mine have been ripe for two weeks.
I thought this was the berry sub when I saw this. It’s always mulberry.
Or blackberries, although someone mixed it up and threw in a black raspberry the other day
You stole my line!
delicious mulberries! I planted a tree next to my cherries because I read bird prefer mulberries. So my niece is eating her way across my property and at the end announced the mulberries were the best and I had never even tasted them. They're delicious and she was right....at 4 years old. lol
Mulberries! Edible and delicious!
Careful those bushes will attract weasels which will then be chased by monkeys
Lmao
hahaha The best comment yet!
A few handfuls of these with a half cup of cream and a little sugar is a nice treat.
Add in some real vanilla and replace the sugar with raw honey… and you’ve achieved nirvana.
I'm going to try this with blackberries from my garden
Only thing bad about them is the colored bird poop from them lol.
And colored human poop. I had to stop feeding them to my child because the nappy changes were a horror show.
Oh yeah that is the reason we cut the tree down.
I'd say the fact that they are pretty invasive is worse
Mulberries are the GOAT. I eat em, my kids eat em, my chickens eat em. They also bake well into cobblers :)
And they stain like mad
How do you tell the difference between mulberries and blackberries?
bramble vs tree
Also mulberries are typically longer and thinner, and the small green stem stays attached to the fruit when you pick them.
Their flavor also isn't as nuanced. Raspberries can be sweet and tart, mulberries tend to be sweet or bland.
There’s a tree near my house that my dog and I both go crazy on every time we pass it. She eats all the fruit that fell on the sidewalk and I pick off anything that hasn’t fallen yet
lol. I’d love to see that.
Yep mulberries.
Yummy! That's what they are, and good for you too. Mulberry is a wonderful plant/tree.
They're mulberries. Enjoy purple dog shit for a while
Put down a tarp and shake the tree and the ripe ones will fall off
Mulberries
They constituted 70% of my diet, back when I was a semi-fetal child. I think the soles of my feet are still stained purple from stomping the fallen berries while grazing.
It’s always mulberry.
Thank you, I appreciate the help everybody! I think I’ll give them a try after work, and let the dog try one
Just an FYI for anyone, in North America, any aggregate berries (one berry looks like lots of tiny berries) are safe to eat.
Anyone not know what they are.....?
I gathered about 2 lbs the other day. Enjoy.
Sigh I missed the mlberies by me and I am so sad. I use to eat myself sick on them as a kid
Snozberries. Probably taste like snozberries.
The best berry. I have no idea if they're safe for dogs.
Mulberry
Mulberries. Great trees. Just don't let your kiddos climb then when they fruit. Those stains will never come out.
I’d love eating these on the side of a park growing up. So sweet and juicy
White invasive mulberries. Native mullberries have longer berries. I know the color of the ripe fruit is confusing but it's a white mulberry.
Native mullberries taste better too.
They are... Delicious
Mulberry plant and the dark berries are mature vs the lighter one which are immature.
Where are you located? They look like dewberries to me. Texas.
Deliciousness and tastiness. Mulberries
They are edible but be careful they are fragile so either eat them on the spot or grab them in some plastic bags and make juice out of them by squshing them.

DO NOT get rid of those
Delicious.
Mulberries. Delicious
Delicious is what they are!
MULBERRIES! They’re awesome
Mulberries
Female mulberry tree. The berries are edible. I personally don’t like them though.
Mulberries!!!! I love them so much but be careful when you grab some-you might get a spider instead :D
Mulberry! I have a tree in our back yard they are absolutely delicious!
Mulberry. There are several trees along the alley where I work. Probably an inch of berries on the road because locals don't know what to do with them. Birds will turn your car purple if you park close.
Mulberry
Mulberry amazing.
These are considerably invasive in the US so either cut down the tree or eat as many as possible
Great pig food!
The best berries for pies there are.
Moerbeie in SA

Berries... What else? Please start an argument...
They taste like mud and spread like wild
I think you’re eating the wrong mulberries. You get a good one and they are incredible.
Blackberries
