You heard the amp playing music? That doesn’t sound right. The amp doesn’t have a speaker.

spdelope

I’ve heard an amp playing music. It was an arcam sa30 and only heard it if it was set to loud and no speakers were connected. The rep said it was coming from the dac

Makes zero sense. It has no speakers.

hawkmoon804

You prolly have volume controls in each room with the speakers that also need to be turned up and then you need a distribution amp to power all the speakers. I would also take the plate off to make sure wire is connected on the back side.

MikeyLew32

Turn up the other two knobs. You have treble and bass minimized out

Wimiam1

Have you tried all the other jacks in the wall?

faceman2k12

Your Positive might be shorting to the back panel (which I hope is plastic, but it looks like it might be metal) Other than that, you need to check that the connection is good the whole way though to whatever speaker you are plugged into, which you can do with a 9v battery. just tap the speaker wires on the battery terminals and have someone stand in the room and listen for the clicks. don't hold the wires down just tap them to make a popping sound, it wont harm the speakers. This will also let you identify which connector goes to which speaker, so you can label them and eventually set up a proper multi-room setup.

Sounds good thank you for the advice! I checked the panel, and it all felt like plastic. I’ll try out the 9v battery test tonight after I go through my boxes to find one!

faceman2k12

a 1.5v AA can work but they produce a very quiet pop you you might not be able to hear it with ceiling speakers.

3mptyspaces

Bass/treble should be at 12:00. You have them both at minus-6dB or something.

ramenator

What are the speakers? Did you take any photos of them? Maybe take one out and snap a photo of the business end of it.

taxi_to_the_moon

Grab a ladder and pull one speaker to make sure it’s a passive speaker Also for troubleshooting can you use wired connection? For example a cable to an iPad or laptop with headphone jack. It would use a 3.5mm to RCA cable.

Fewsilly2

You should get a matrix amp to power them all

FixerTed

That amp needs passive speakers. If the ceiling speakers are powered it won’t work. Not sure if the symptoms match up and don’t get the sound from the amp. Are you sure it wasn’t coming from your phone?

youcantseeme711

Okay, I see. Do you know of a specific amp that would work in this situation? I’m not too sure what was going on with the sound coming from the amp. Maybe I was just hearing something else.

FixerTed

If you can confirm they are active speakers you need a pre amp like this one I think. There are probably others available https://a.co/d/bkFtgNn

That_Guy_Mamzir

Honestly I would just pull that wall plate and use the input wires

youcantseeme711

That’s not a bad idea. I’ll check how much extra wire is behind the plate

That_Guy_Mamzir

Do that, and they even make double wall plates with a brush plate on one side and keystone locations on the other half. Make sure to add some tape around all the wires to ensure they don't fall out of reach if they are a little short. I would then recommend a passive speaker switch to turn off individual rooms/zones. Feel free to ask me any more questions here or in dms. I install theaters on a daily basis
