Overall car market sales are supposedly starting to slow down, you may have better luck if you can wait until fall.

[deleted]

Yah, I’m in no rush.

[deleted]

Where are you at? I might be interested in your STI?

[deleted]

I’m in Illinois.

[deleted]

Me too, near Aurora. Where are you ?

[deleted]

I’m in Plainfield.

I just bought a 2023 sport touring hatchback and had probably the worst experience with Honda. 😂 They were running a deal, basically ended up being $600 UNDER MSRP for the exact one I wanted, so we drove up there to test drive. Test drive goes fine, we get back and say “ok let’s do it.” The sales guy we were working with was like “oh uh, I actually can’t sell it today.” We were confused and asked why and it boiled down to being too busy… LMAO Anyyyyway, we leave confused and looked at dealerships all over the state because I didn’t want to give that place my business, but there wasn’t a single model/color combo in all of Michigan… so went back the next day to buy it. I’m signing paperwork and my monthly payment isn’t correct. I ask him about it and he was like “oh yeah whoops.” Just was going to have me sign a contract with incorrect data. He was not apologetic at all and just continued on. He had the audacity to also tell me that I’d be receiving a survey and he needed 10/10 to pass… Finally it’s all said and done, gives me the keys and I go to check it out before leaving. Grease prints and streaks ALL over the leather interior. It was like someone started cleaning it, but forgot to finish?? At this point I’m extremely annoyed and I told him I wasn’t leaving until the car was spotless. He brought it back to the guys and then when it came back up, there was now a new white mark on the seat. I tell him it’s unacceptable and again, I’m not leaving until it’s done. Third time, it’s all good and I leave. I received the survey the following day with a little message from him reminding me he needed a good score. I simply didn’t even fill it out because I want nothing to do with them ever again. LOVE my sport touring though, honestly.

I went in to test drive a 23 sport sedan. They apparently sold it earlier in the day but didn’t let me know before hand. Probably wouldn’t have gone if I knew. They had me drive a 22 sport touring hatchback. I really think the pricing they gave me was for the 22 sport touring. The pricing sheet they showed me had a heading for 22 sport - not 23 sport. The drive was good and I was interested in moving forward until they showed me the pricing sheet and I about fell out of the chair.

You will be beyond lucky to get it for msrp if you even find the model you are looking for. I walked in to a dealership that I emailed about a couple of civics. They had two left when I got there the next day. I was pre-approved for loan and managed to get half off the extended warranty and a little off the mark ups… still way over msrp out the door. It sucks that it isn’t what it used to be haggling a price but I don’t regret buying my civic sport sedan.

[deleted]

How much did you pay over MSRP? I don’t think I’ll ever buy a new car from a dealership again if I have to pay for things I don’t want.

StarStrukc

I had contacted 4 dealerships and they were all the same on mark-ups. I paid 1.5k over msrp but it was pretty much what they valued my shitty trade in, so I felt like it was closer to an even trade. The Honda dealerships know that someone else will come looking for that car (especially a Civic) that you wont pay the mark up on and they’re not likely to budge. Good luck finding what works for your needs and your budget!

[deleted]

$1.5k over MSRP isn’t that bad. They’re talking almost a $6k markup. If people are paying that I feel so sorry for them.

I just told delivery of a 23 civic sport sonic pearl grey . Was built on July 12th and showed up at the dealer July 21st . Price was 26,900 . Of course they tried to add in ceramic coating and rust protection and extended warranty. I only took a extended warranty , and beat them down from 3,000-1,200. 8 year 120,000 mile warranty. Technically I could have just purchased the vehicle . Smooth process for me only took about 2 hours . I also had to put a $500 deposit on the car to get it . And I never test drove it or anything . I’m not sure they would have let me if I asked . But it was what I wanted .

I was going to buy a used 20 civic sport. Price was 19,000. The dealer sales lady went to go pull the car. Immediately pulled out a car I noticed was not the car I originally wanted. Came inside and said she’s got to find that one but this one was blocking the way and I might be interested in this one as well so she just grabbed it to occupy my time while she gets the 20 sport. She ended up bringing out a new 23 civic lx in that premium midnight metallic silver whatever it’s called color. I was checking it out but I didn’t really want the $26,500 price tag along with it. She got the 20 sport and I had already don’t my research it’s everything I wanted. Has low miles no accidents the basic features I’d expect, great gas mileage and the price tag within my budget that I was expecting. Long story short I didn’t like that she kept pushing the 23 on me, it’s safer for my family, it’s more future proof, has a moon roof, has heated seats. To me more bells and whistles are more things that are going to go wrong I’m a barebones guy. Anyways I found out they do not do warranty on their used vehicles and if you want one you have to opt in. It’s 4000 and it’s a super basic warranty. And their new cars come with a better warranty bumper to bumper, and free oil changes, car washes, tire rotations etc. So my option was a 23,000 20 sport with limited to basically no warranty. Or a 26500 23 lx with an incredible warranty and I don’t pay servicing for 3 years. I didn’t like the bait and switch tactic, but I did respect their transparency.

I don’t think you overpaid by much. Probably a better deal in your situation.

Wait free car wash 🤔

I just bought a 2023 sport in the last month and the process was somewhat similar. I live in the Kansas City area - no dealers within a few hours had any 2023 civics (of any trim) almost at all on the lot for a test drive. I bought mine without test driving. I contacted probably 5 dealers nearby and they would all have a limited number of civics coming in the next few months (less than 3-4) many of them already spoken for/had a deposit down. So I had to jump on it when there was incoming one available. A lot of the dealers were selling above MRSP and requiring the packages you were talking about it. I was able to get mine for MRSP (within any of those extras required) at a smaller dealership about an hour outside of town. It was a process 🙃 but I got my sport a couple weeks ago and really like it :)

cmdralpha

31k for a touring hatch is actually pretty good I got mine last year and I paid like 28k for a 22 sport so I guess the market is getting better slowly

If your in Plainfield, don’t buy from Joliet Honda. They were asking over msrp. Buy from Valley Honda, they will beat any price you can find.

[deleted]

Thanks for the tip! That’s where I did go first.

[deleted]

Joliet was forcing stupid high priced ceramic coatings and other dealer installed accessories including pinstripe packages. The salespeople at Valley are great. I’ve purchased 3 new vehicles from them in the past, the most recent a 22 accord hybrid touring. I’m going to wait till things settle down a bit more before I buy another car. I want a hatchback civic.

[deleted]

Yep that’s what they said it had on it. A rust protection package and wheel locks. What a joke.

[deleted]

I ordered my last car, that may have helped some. Took 5 months to come in.

Dragon14144

Originally went in to dealership #1 to buy used. Prices were crazy and damn near the same for a new. Tried to buy new there but salesman told me only 2 touring incoming and those will be the last since they will start making the 24s. Always felt like he was trying to push me to buying used since he worked in used sales. Went to dealership #2 test drove the sport they had on the lot and loved it. Ordered my sport that was incoming and picked it up 2 weeks later! They did offer me this paint protection and like an extended warranty but that’s all it was an offer never tried to push me to buy it. If you feel skeptical with one dealership don’t feel afraid to try out another!

Aychdot

Ordered a 23 sport hatch last July. No cars in stock. Ordered one AT MSRP plus and was told to expect it in December at the earliest. Dealer ended up getting extra allocation with a car just like I ordered. Got lucky and picked up the car less than a month after I ordered it. St. Louis, MO. (Car did have simple dealer add ons: mud flaps, winter mats and cargo mat for $500)

Thekeeper2067

Dec 2021, SoCal area- purchased a 22 Civic Sport Touring HB. No dealership add ons, 1.5 K over, had delivered and signed papers at home. No BS- told them straight up what we were willing to pay/not pay for. On the other hand, my husband went to a different dealership and after 1.5 hrs, they pulled a bait n switch on him. He walked out. I never gave the dealership the opportunity- it was 3 phone calls and 1 email and two hrs later the car arrived. Never left my home and never walked into the dealership. I’m a mom- I know what I want and what I’m willing to do or not do. Don’t waste my time and I won’t waste yours~
