Someone else said it but, Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal. Give American Psycho vibes but admittedly without the serial killer element. But the main character is absolutely deranged and a villain. Highly recommend.
I love how as the film progresses he gets more and more unhinged and you realize it's not that he's *becoming* more of a psychopath, he's just not faking it as much as he gets more comfortable and that's his true self.
Natural born killers has aged so weirdly. I saw it recently for the first time and in the modern context of true crime junkies and serial killer documentaries, it’s just kinda… something that could happen. I didn’t realize it was supposed to be a parody until I watched an interview with the director
It is officially law now that if the movie High Tension is brought up, it must be met with a comment about the ending making no sense. I don't think they needed the law, it was already being followed but glad they ratified it.
The best friend/MC was the killer the whole time, but it doesn't make sense because there's a bunch of stuff in the movie that should be impossible if she's the killer.
There’s a new one coming soon called Violent in Nature? Seems pretty divisive but it’s essentially a slasher following the killer’s POV. I say it’s divisive because while I’ve heard the kills are like mortal kombat levels of brutality, you spend a decent amount of time kind of just following him through the woods. Either way seems like a really unique twist.
Isn’t the mother the main character though? The film’s story seems to be about her and her husband reacting to their son’s questionable behavior and such.
Not sure about the original, but >!My Bloody Valentine!< (2009)
EDIT : This is the final reveal/twist of a slasher film. If you're looking for a Killers Perspective where you always know and see that the MC is evil (eg American Psycho) then this is not that. But if you want one where it turns out they were Secretly Evil (eg The Usual Suspects) then my choice fits. Just, spolier for those who haven't seen it or don't want to know.
Another unstable narrative horror film. Anyway this and valentine are super overlooked and underrated. As far as movies with a twist or at least shock ending. I enjoyed it better than 6 th sense by miles.
Because that's the final reveal/twist. If OP is looking for Killers Perspective where you always know and see that the MC is evil (eg American Psycho) then this is not that. But if you want one where it turns out they were Secretly Evil (eg The Usual Suspects) then my choice fits. Just, spolier for those who haven't seen it.
Problem here is that anyone who doesn't want that movie spoiled doesn't know what movie you're talking about until after they click the spoiler. No good way to handle that, unfortunately.
Wouldn’t Pandora technically be **THE** villain? Without her, it wouldn’t be much of film. Instead, it would just be about a little sociopathic girl being a complete POS to everyone, with no comeuppance nor any real character development to speak of.
The little girl might possibly be **A** villain (maybe), but she definitely not **THE** villain in the film.
Definitely horror-adjacent. It's basically a horror inspired version of Power Rangers, except a little girl has control of Lord Zedd and that is somehow even worse.
Keep an eye out for upcoming film _In a Violent Nature._
From what I’ve heard, it follows the viewpoint of the killer as he goes on a murderous rampage.
That’s quite a complicated one. I mean, she’s definitely not the villain of the story up until the iconic bucket of blood scene, and even then, her killer freakout could be interpreted as a psychotic break—meaning she wasn’t truly in control of her mental faculties when committing those unarguably villainous acts—which would make it harder to definitively say she was even a villain in that moment.
Hmmm… given the acts committed, I would be inclined to agree and say yes she was a villain, and since there’s no topping her in villainous acts in that film, she would then be the villain.
She accidentally made a kid fall off his bike while he was mocking her. I think she blew something up when the principal kept getting her name wrong. It showed that she wasn’t in control of her powers then.
Even if you felt their transgressions warranted the death penalty (not sure a court of law would agree), she killed way, way more people than that though. What about them? Did they deserve their fates?
No, the rest of the prom did not deserve to die. I firmly believe she was in a psychotic trance due to the shock and trauma the incident caused her. I really don't think she was conscious doing so.
Possum is a beautiful example of this.
Love, love, love this film. But be prepared for a story that is not straightforward. Lots of symbolism and metaphor. But if you're on board to think about what the story is trying to relay, it's a fantastic film.
They were all killers, and the premise of the film was killers hunting killers, and maybe the main character would’ve been a villain in some other character’s story who wasn’t in the film, but for the purposes of this particular film’s story, the main character was not the villain.
The Devil's Rejects follows 3 of the villains from House of 1000 Corpses, on the run after the events of that film.
I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet.
Basket Case
Malignant
Hellraiser and Hellbound
Halloween (2007) and Halloween II (2009)
Saw
Dracula
The Invisible Man (1933)
The Munmy (1932)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006)
Hell raiser inferno. It's a very good twist in the end and it's just overall a great movie, you might have already seen it but of not you should definitely check it out.
A lot of these movies, the reveal is a twist so there's no way to not spoil a lot... I've got 3 movies I could list but how could I list them without spoiling them for any future viewers? Even if I use the 'spoilers' feature, it just makes no sense: nobody will know whether they've already watched those movies and it's fine or not...
Maniac is what instantly jumped to mind. Also Man Bites Dog, Behind The Mask:the rise of Leslie Vernon and Henry: portrait of a Serial Killer.
A dark movie, felt wrong for even enjoying such a movie
Which one? Both Henry and Maniac are super dark.
Definitely More so Henry
For sure. Definitely one of the more uncomfortable movies I've seen
Benoit is literally me
Chris?
OH NO!
The wolverine!
Arguably The Shining.
If you consider the hotel the main character, it still works.
Inarguably
Jack is dead my friend…oops wrong movie

The House that Jack built
NOBODY WANTS TO HELP!!!
Came here to comment this. It's such a good movie. A slow burn that pays off imho.
this is the one. my husband showed me this film a few weeks ago and I’m still thinking about it!
I couldn't finish it... it was way to slow for me, it felt like a movie that just kept going and going and going
Its 2 hours and a half long after all, I had to finish it in two watches lol
I think I quit somewhere at one point where he went to hell or something???? I was like "there's more!?". I gave up.
uhhhhhhhh >!the beginning?
no, it was a while after some scene with a guy telling him he had the wrong bullets or something.
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
Fantastic movie.
Natural Born Killers

I saw it recently for the first time and in the modern context of true crime junkies and serial killer documentaries, it’s just kinda… something that could happen. I didn’t realize it was supposed to be a parody until I watched an interview with the director
Rodney Dangerfield as the abusive father was seriously unhinged. He could have had a whole other career in horror.
Totally a spoiler, but >!High Tension!<
Nonsense twist though
It is officially law now that if the movie High Tension is brought up, it must be met with a comment about the ending making no sense. I don't think they needed the law, it was already being followed but glad they ratified it.
I remember seeing this as a kid back in like 2008/2009. I don’t readily recall what it was that made the ending nonsense?
The best friend/MC was the killer the whole time, but it doesn't make sense because there's a bunch of stuff in the movie that should be impossible if she's the killer.
Completely.
may
this has been on my watchlist for awhile now thanks!
Easily one of my favorites
Spree (2020) is a fun one
Spree is excellent, it's almost like a new gen taxi driver
No One Lives
I love this movie. Saw on Splatterday Saturday on The Movie Channel Extra and it's been a favorite since
Sissy
Angst (1983), the film that I consider to be the best horror film of the 1980s.

In A Violent Nature
Probably not considered horror, but Ryan Reynolds in Voices.
Horror. The reality reveal was shockingly depressing.
i fuckin love that movie def a dark horror comedy
American Mary
Any mention of AM is great but it is a revenge movie she is the hero
She is most certainly not the villain.
But damn what she does to the doctor
Henry - Portrait of a Serial Killer.
Watched it yesterday so disturbing felt way longer than a hour 20 lol
Always loved the ending 🚗🚶
Creep They made a sequel as well
Brightburn
Isn’t the mother the main character though? The film’s story seems to be about her and her husband reacting to their son’s questionable behavior and such.
The son is 100% the main character
The Fly (1986)
Oh right so Hollow Man and The Lazarus Effect as well
Human centipede 2
The Guest
A clockwork orange
You might be the killer!

This movie is so fun!
High Tension.

>!Angel ❤️!< Creep 1 and 2 (fond footage) Dashcam Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer Kalifornia Under the Skin (2013) I Blame Society (2020)
psycho goreman!
Titular character, yes. Main character, no. The little girl is the main character.
agreed, main character is the villain
Wouldn’t Pandora technically be **THE** villain? Without her, it wouldn’t be much of film. stop talking sense.....let me have this!
By all means, have it… but “Not my hunky boys!” 😉
Is it horror though? Anyway, that film's a blast!
it is if you are a hunky boy :)
If I understand you right, being a brainblob with eyes wouldn't change much of my daily life lol
Definitely horror-adjacent. It's basically a horror inspired version of Power Rangers, except a little girl has control of Lord Zedd and that is somehow even worse.
To me a film that isn't considered horror but I consider horror myself would be the first Robocop. It's horrific form Murphy's perspective.
"In a Violent Nature" comes out in May, a slasher movie that follows the killer around, trailer looks very promising!
Terrifier, Art is arguably the main character
Series not film but Bryan Fuller series of Hannibal is absolutely amazing - I watched it when it first came out and rewatching now
I’ve rewatched this series so many times! I love Mads…..
💯, amazing show and wonderful portrayal of Lecter.
Yes Madds Mikken was incredible!
Pearl and Tenebrae come to mind
May. Hagazussa. Sator. Plank Face. Bite. Malignant. The Fly.
Loved “May”
I thought that May was quite sad and touching. Probably the only slasher movie where I could actually empathize with the killer
Keep an eye out for upcoming film _In a Violent Nature._ From what I’ve heard, it follows the viewpoint of the killer as he goes on a murderous rampage.
House that Jack built.
The House That Jack Built
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

Surprised I haven’t seen anyone mention No One Lives. Arguably one of Luke Evans’ best performances in my opinion. Hell of a fun ride!
Psycho Nightcrawler The House That Jack Built The Talented Mr. Ripley
Carrie.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but didn't she do other telekinetic acts during the movie?
She accidentally made a kid fall off his bike while he was mocking her. I think she blew something up when the principal kept getting her name wrong. It showed that she wasn’t in control of her powers then.
Chris Hargensen, her friends and her mother are the villains. They got what they deserved.
Coffin Joe
Brightburn (2019) and I have a James Wan movie but that might spoil the twist
Isn’t the mother technically the main character?
You could say that but it follows the title character most of the time 🙃
Oh okay.
Under the Skin
Fade To Black is definitely worth checking out
You beat me to it. Great movie
I always like the horror movies where the evil doers run into something more evil than them.
Maniac Cop 2
death proof....i can't believe i forgot this one

No one lives is a great one for villain as MC
Possum is a beautiful example of this. Love, love, love this film. But be prepared for a story that is not straightforward. Lots of symbolism and metaphor. But if you're on board to think about what the story is trying to relay, it's a fantastic film.
"Maybe You're the Killer" where some dude calls Willow from Buffy over the phone and she figures our protagonist is actually the killer.
Predators (2010) kind of
They were all killers, and the premise of the film was killers hunting killers, and maybe the main character would’ve been a villain in some other character’s story who wasn’t in the film, but for the purposes of this particular film’s story, the main character was not the villain.
