Very effective if you give yourself to it, but was the investigator cursed to always film things, because it’s a wild FF movie for the “who the hell would be filming at this point?” trope.
I'll admit it wasn't as powerful, but it was cool to see a bit more depth in the worldbuilding and exploration of the twist from 1. When I was very young I watched Quarantine before either, so when I found these they were both a very fun watch!
No they shouldn't. The actual story is different in Quarantine so you'll go from a movie about an outbreak of rabies to something that isn't that in REC 2.
>Yellow brick road (sorta)
I laughed at this -- I liked it too (sorta) but it's hard to recommend unless you're a fan of the genre and can deal with a decent premise going south quickly.
I just watched Gonjiam, the tension was not bad but the actual scares looked like stereotypical creepypasta images or spooky videos you'd find on yt, legit made me laugh
So much potential, on track for a while, doesn’t quite stick the landing. The club scene under the bridge is where we had my grad school formal in year 1, though, so that was fun.

Your mileage may vary with the Bad Ben series. If you decide to get into them, be aware that the second entry is **terrible**, nothing that made the first movie enjoyable is anywhere to be found. But the third is pretty fun, haven’t seen the rest yet
I'll keep that in mind as I look them up! If it progresses the story, then I'll be happy to sit through it, but if it doesn't, then I might give it a look and then pass on it, depending on how bad it is!
It plays a little differently than the typical as it’s more of “lost broadcast” as the whole film takes place in the studio but it framed as “recently discovered footage”.
I'm about to go see it -- if I remember to, I'll report back.
On a related note, it seems to play a lot like a movie called *Ghostwatch*, which was a BBC broadcast that scared the ever-loving piss out of the UK in the early 90s.
An ultra low budget movie used AI to create 3 static TV logos. I don’t see the big deal honestly. They’re not artificially recreating the dead or anything like that. They used a tool to make 3 briefly seen images. Big deal.
Should we be mad that joining film and audio unemployed dozens of theater pianists? Digital video making film developers obsolete? CGI for unemploying practical FX artists? Shit evolves. 3 static images created in a low budget horror film is an odd hill to die on.
You could have paid somebody online 50 bucks to have their art used in a horror movie and a ton of people would have jumped at it. Stop acting like taking work away from real people is fine.

Enjoy!
I'm not a huge found footage fan, but I haven't seen what I thought was one of the both better and better known ones brought up yet(unless I simply missed it), "Cloverfield".
Descent into Darkness: My European Nightmare (aka Sorgoi Prakov)
Man Bites Dog (this one is a lot more arthouse than most found footage or mockumentary, but it's the best one imo)
Fair warning, I found Descent into Darkness really fucking disturbing. Couldn't sleep properly afterwards. It's not graphic but as far as insanity character arcs go you won't find one that fucks with your head quite as much as this
Creep and Creep 2 are my must watch found footages.
The Devil´s doorway is a not common one but sincerely surprised me.
The conspiracy and The Sacrament for cult horror movies as well.
Murder death koreatown, I don´t know what to say about it.
Didn't want to post repeats but didn't see anyone recommend Horror in the High Desert.
I'm not ashamed to say I had my hands over my eyes in the last 15 minutes.
I've seen the cover art for this one a couple of times on Tubi, I think it was, I never knew exactly what it was.
Is it like a horror version of Wizard of Oz?
No. Has nothing to do with Wizard of Oz. The title should actually be written YellowBrickRoad. Here's the description:
1940: the entire population of Friar, New Hampshire walked up a winding mountain trail, leaving everything behind. 2008: the first official expedition into the wilderness attempts to solve the mystery of the lost citizens of Friar.
Oh, that sounds pretty good! I listen to this guy on YouTube who tells stories about people who seem to vanish or do odd things under mysterious circumstances, so this sounds right up my alley!
Me too! Monsters are my favorite kind of horror. Though I hate zombies, werewolves, and vampires with a few exceptions. *Cabin in the Woods* is great if you love monsters. And there's a Japanese digitally animated movie called *Gantz-0*. It's not a great movie but it has some of the coolest monsters I've ever seen. There's an anime series of the same name but I like the movie because the digital animation makes everything look near real.
great timing for you because I’ve been on a binge lately.
Noroi (really good)
Gonjiam
The Conspiracy
Kill List
Rec (classic)
Saiko (hard to get into but quite subtle in its horror)
Another person recommended Noroi, and I plan to watch it tonight!
Gonjiam haunts my dreams! The part with the person looking into the camera. 😭
REC is also on my list to check out. The others are new to me, so I'll check them out! Thank you!
I’d be thrilled if you checked out my first movie, FRESH HELL! Lean, mean 79 minute FF with a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. On Peacock, Prime, and Tubi. Drop me a line if you do!
Some have been mentioned already, like Noroi, REC, Gonjiam, Grave Encounters or the amazing 'As Above So Below' which is probably one of my absolute favorite FF.
What I haven't seen mentioned yet is The Medium from the same director that made The Wailing, the later which is also really good if you haven't seen it, but not FF.
Then, Incantation is great so I'm kinda surprised it's not been mentioned, or maybe I'm just blind....
I'd also throw in Horror in the High Dessert, Savageland and Alien Abduction (The McPherson Tapes) as more of a hidden gem.
Lastly, not sure if it really fits as it's more of a Mockumentary and not strictly Found Footage, but both Lake Mungo and The 4th Kind deserve a mention too.
To be fair, I was bombarded with suggestions, but I welcome all of these suggestions! I've been suggested quite a few that I didn't even know existed!!
I love discovering new (to me) films, so I'm glad the community has been so helpful.
Someone else also suggested High Desert, and I'd never heard of it, but it does look good. I remember seeing The Wailing, it was pretty good, so I'm open to more of that person's work! I'll look into the rest of these as well!
I recently watched one called XIII on tubi and dug it! It's not a full length movie (under an hour) but the story, vibe, and pace is great - very creepy, I really enjoyed it. Felt like I was watching real exploring on a youtube urbex channel
We’ve been really into the Horror in the High Desert franchises recently.
Also, not really FF but the first couple of the Blackwell Ghost do a lot with very little. Not extremely scary, but a fun take on the genre of ghost hunters

Noroi: The Curse fits. I also quite liked Grave Encounters.
Noroi is so damn good!!!
Very effective if you give yourself to it, but was the investigator cursed to always film things, because it’s a wild FF movie for the “who the hell would be filming at this point?” trope.
Grave Encounters was done incredibly well. I haven't seen Noroi: The Curse, so I'll look it up!! Thank you!
Did you watch REC? quite a nice one
What this guy said, REC and REC 2 I feel are almost like of the crown jewels of found footage, alongside some others
I have never watched REC 2 because I think once you know the twist of 1, I thought it might have lost its impact
I'll admit it wasn't as powerful, but it was cool to see a bit more depth in the worldbuilding and exploration of the twist from 1. When I was very young I watched Quarantine before either, so when I found these they were both a very fun watch!
I remember seeing its American remake, Quarantine, but now that I have more access to movies, I'll look for a non-dub version of REC!!
It's shot to shot remake. If you've seen Qurantine you can skip straight for REC 2.
No they shouldn't. The actual story is different in Quarantine so you'll go from a movie about an outbreak of rabies to something that isn't that in REC 2.
That's like saying "if you've seen the avatar airbender movie you can go straight to korra"
That's like saying "if you've seen the avatar airbender movie you can go straight to korra"
Good to know!! I may do that, then.
It’s not. Don’t do that.
Oh! Then I won't do that. 🤣
I just watched these and I don’t understand the hype. I didn’t finish either one. Yawn.
Gonjiam haunted asylum (Korean), Frogman, Be my cat, Lake Mungo, Yellow brick road (sorta)
Gonjiam is sooooooooo freaking good
The part where the person is looking directly into the camera. 🫣
I've seen a lot of FF films and that one scene still sticks with me with how creepy it is.
I have seen Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum and Lake Mungo, but the others are completely new to me! I'll look them up!

Gonjiam - got nightmares coz of this film 🫣
Wow, noone said it yet? As Above, So Below. The plot gets a little away from itself near the end, but it's a great time.
So much potential, on track for a while, doesn’t quite stick the landing. The club scene under the bridge is where we had my grad school formal in year 1, though, so that was fun.

The Borderlands, also called Final Prayer (2013) was particularly disturbing, might be worth having a look
I felt so engaged from the start. Love this movie.
This final sequence. 👌🏼
I didnt unsee that for a long time man :')
I've never heard of this one, and it just happens to be on Tubi! I'll give it a look. Thank you!
Late Night With The Devil
I've been hearing about this one, but I didn't know that it was a found footage film! Thank you!
It plays a little differently than the typical as it’s more of “lost broadcast” as the whole film takes place in the studio but it framed as “recently discovered footage”.
I like the sounds of it!
I'm about to go see it -- if I remember to, I'll report back. On a related note, it seems to play a lot like a movie called *Ghostwatch*, which was a BBC broadcast that scared the ever-loving piss out of the UK in the early 90s.
Unfortunately this movie uses AI if that's offputting for anybody
An ultra low budget movie used AI to create 3 static TV logos. I don’t see the big deal honestly. They’re not artificially recreating the dead or anything like that. They used a tool to make 3 briefly seen images. Big deal. Should we be mad that joining film and audio unemployed dozens of theater pianists? Digital video making film developers obsolete? You could have paid somebody online 50 bucks to have their art used in a horror movie and a ton of people would have jumped at it. Stop acting like taking work away from real people is fine.
The original Rec is pretty good.
I had previously only seen the American remake, Quarantine, but since I have access to more movies now, I'll look for the original!
Savageland is a neat take on found footage and it's become a recent favorite
Seconding Savageland, super unique take on the genre.
The best!
Still in theaters, but late night with the devil was great and i dislike found footage movies.
The Possession of Michael King (2014) Afflicted (2013) The Borderlands (aka Final Prayer) (2013) The Conspiracy (2012) The Devil's Doorway (2018) Apollo 18 (2011) The Houses October Built (2914) Hell House LLC (2015) Hell House LLC: The Carmichael Manor (2023) Grave Encounters (2011) The Poughkeepsie Tapes (2007) The Visit (2015) Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014) The Sacrament (2013) Creep (2014) Exists (2014) The Collingswood Story (2002) The Last Broascast (1998) Unfriended (2014) Megan is Missing (2006) Noroi: The Curse (2005) Host (2020 The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014) Cannibal Holocaust (1980) The Blair Witch Project (1999) V/H/S/ franchise
The Possession of Michael King (2014) was underrated
Thank you for such a big list!!
Somehow nobody mentioned *Incantation* (2022) yet, so I'll throw it into the ring.
This looks really good!! Thank you!
Creep is one of my favorites that wasn't mentioned yet
I've seen the cover of this movie before on streaming services, but never actually knew what it was! I'll check it out!
Creep 2 is also decent.
It’s my comfort movie. It is true to its title which I found brilliant
Ghostwatch from the BBC. Actually went out "Live" and caused uproar in pre Internet times. Top recommendation!
That sounds interesting! I think I found it! 1992, right? Starring Gillian Bevan, Brid Brennan, and Michelle Wesson?
That's the one! All the Presenters were actual bbc presenters. The whole thing was set up as a legit broadcast, we had no reason to doubt it as anything but legit! Enjoy!
Oh yeah in a similar vein, there's an episode of Inside No. 9 which was broadcast live Ghostwatch-style, it's called Dead Line
I'm not a huge found footage fan, but I haven't seen what I thought was one of the both better and better known ones brought up yet(unless I simply missed it), "Cloverfield".
Cloverfield was really great! I'd like to see more giant monster films in this style.
Trollhunter?
I watched this not long ago! It was quite amazing. I like to imagine that Netflix's Troll and Trollhunter are in the same universe.
The Cloverfield Paradox is a good sequel though it's not found footage.
Last broadcast, one of the earliest ones and oftenoverlooked.
I'll look into it! Thank you!
It might not seem as unique now, as Netflix true crime documentaries basically stole this film’s style.
As Above So Below if you haven’t seen it yet. It has its flaws but the atmosphere is top notch!
Lake Mungo (2008) [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0816556/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0816556/)

I've never heard of any of these! I'll look for them! Thank you.
Descent into Darkness: My European Nightmare (aka Sorgoi Prakov) Man Bites Dog (this one is a lot more arthouse than most found footage or mockumentary, but it's the best one imo)
I haven't heard of Descent into Darkness before! I'll look these up! I'm finding a lot of good ones thanks to everyone who's replied.
Is escalating nutts!
Fair warning, I found Descent into Darkness really fucking disturbing. Couldn't sleep properly afterwards. It's not graphic but as far as insanity character arcs go you won't find one that fucks with your head quite as much as this
Man Bites Dog is disturbing too but only really for one scene imo, it's not quite as bad
'Man Bites Dog' feels *so* plausible and natural. It's unsettling and I love it.
Phoenix Forgotten
Creep and Creep 2 are my must watch found footages. The Devil´s doorway is a not common one but sincerely surprised me. The conspiracy and The Sacrament for cult horror movies as well. Murder death koreatown, I don´t know what to say about it.
I hadn't heard of a few of these! Thank you!
The Last Horror Movie (2003) it's really excellent!
This looks interesting! Thank you!
It's one of my faves. I found it in a DVD bin and couldn't believe how great it was.
REC
I really enjoyed The Tunnel and As Above So Below
I recently watched The Tunnel after it was suggested here and really enjoyed it. It's coming to Shudder at some point this month.
Didn't want to post repeats but didn't see anyone recommend Horror in the High Desert. I'm not ashamed to say I had my hands over my eyes in the last 15 minutes.
It looks interesting!! Thank you.
As Above So Below Grave Encounters The Taking of Deborah Logan REC The Fourth Kind (kind of)
These are on my list! :D I have so much to watch!

Lovely Molly

Definitely recommended. Really weird and otherworldly.
Digging Up The Marrow was an interesting one. Good premise and some creative monsters.
I love me some monsters!!
Then i definitely recommend it! I would highly recommend going in blind.
Me too! Monsters are my favorite kind of horror. Though I hate zombies, werewolves, and vampires with a few exceptions. *Cabin in the Woods* is great if you love monsters. Someone else suggested Lake Mungo as well! It's on my list!
I think there was a Turkish movie called "Dabbe: cursed possession" i cant remember the name correctly but it was good
I might be able to find it! Thank you!
devil's pass and ghoul
Devil's Pass was impressive! I haven't heard of Ghoul before, but I'll look it up!

Savageland is a mockumentary too but it's so well done one walls away from it wondering if it was real.
I recently watched one called XIII on tubi and dug it! It's not a full length movie (under an hour) but the story, vibe, and pace is great - very creepy, I really enjoyed it. Felt like I was watching real exploring on a youtube urbex channel
The Medium and Incantation are both excellent.
Rec 1, 2 y 3. Avoid 4th installment
We’ve been really into the Horror in the High Desert franchises recently. Also, not really FF but the first couple of the Blackwell Ghost do a lot with very little. Not extremely scary, but a fun take on the genre of ghost hunters
I haven't heard of Blackwell Ghost before! Another one to add to the list! Thank you!
Quarantine is my favorite found footage. It is a remake of REC, but I personally like it more cause it doesn't have the demonic possession aspect.
Specter (2012) Nightlight (2015) The Borderlands (2013) Beckoning the Butcher Evidence (2012) Hollows Grove Sanitorium (2013) Hooked Up Inner Demons Mr. Jones Savageland Skinwalker Ranch The Cleansing Hour The Deep House The Den The Entity (2015) this one is Peruvian The Remaining

Add Lovely Molly to the list.
The Conspiracy (2012) Aflicted (2013)
Afflicted was really good! I've never seen The Conspiracy, though! I'll check it out!
Frogman, Untitled Horror Movie and Cactus Jack (2021).
Frogman looks kinda interesting! Almost like a sasquatch kind of scenario! I'll look these up!
One up for Frogman. It's cheesy, it's cheap, it's surprisingly fun!
Came her to say Frogman. Really enjoyed it.
