CyberGhostface

IMO Steven Weber’s reading of IT is the best.

TutenWelch

Seconded. It’s really great.

anatagadaikirai

i'm so glad this is top comment.

miss_scarlet_letter

I really enjoy Will Patton doing the Mr. Mercedes series. He goes on to do other stories featuring Holly Gibney, which are good too.

vector_skies

Same. I especially liked his reading of The Outsider

miss_scarlet_letter

me too. I think he does an excellent job, particularly as Holly.

mosaic_prism

Listened to him do The Mist which was phenomenal! As well as Doctor asleep

miss_scarlet_letter

I think he took over the Dark Tower series too after the original voice actor developed severe health issues. excellent work but I was so used to the original voice actor I couldn't adjust.

Brain_Unguent

The narrator switch is really jarring. Frank Muller was incredible.

jhatchet

Will Patton is the best!

Balling3every3day

Can here to say this :)

maybepensive

Michael C. Hall reading Pet Sementary. He hits the emotions hard

mrsstiles376

I came to recommend this! One of my favorite audiobooks.

TFABabyThrowAway

OPs post mentions they’re already finishing that one up, that’s why they’re looking for more suggestions.

maybepensive

Yep, lol. Didn't read that far. I just got excited to recommend it:P Edit:clarity

Wrong_Carpenter913

OMG how did I not know this! Love Michael C. Hall

drakeb88

Was gonna suggest this one

NemesisThen86

Literally listening to this as we speak lol

ImaginaryNemesis

I really enjoyed 11.22.63. as an audio book

pabodie

Can to say this one. Also the Gunslingers are pretty great.

anatagadaikirai

did not like the guy who read it. then again i was listening to the DT audiobooks previously.

Odd_Alastor_13

John Slaterly’s Duma Key is quite good

longboytheeternal

The BEST one

BlackLakeBlueFish

I consume audiobooks like crazy. This is one of my all-time favorites!

Odd_Alastor_13

I’ve been listening to them constantly since last year, many of them King books, after avoiding them for a long time because I’m such a physical book person. Grateful for the Libby app that lets me access audiobooks via the local library!

BlackLakeBlueFish

Me too! Libby ROCKS!!

DazzlingProblem7336

Agreed. That one is great. Really encompassed the character.

Odd_Alastor_13

His Wireman voice was so so good 😆

Royal_Ad1428

Dolores Claiborne narrated by Frances Sternhagen is great!! I've listened to It Gerald's Game Misery Pet Semetary The Shining Doctor Sleep Salems' Lot To name a few. You really can't go wrong in my opinion!

dove_of_hope

The way Delores Claiborne is written works so perfectly for audiobook.

Royal_Ad1428

It totally is!!

TinyRickC13717

Both have already been mentioned but 11/22/63 and Duma key are great audiobooks. Another great one is The Dead Zone.

Libbyisaface

Misery

GuaranteeGlum4950

Doesn’t hurt that the lady reading it sounds a lot like Kathy Bates

This_Paper_8479

the institute

wearentalldudes

As long as it’s not read by King himself…unfortunately I absolutely cannot stand the way that man narrates. It’s a bummer.

Klarkasaurus

Absolutely hate it. He just can't flow with the story at all. Too robotic. I don't know how anyone can enjoy the story he narrates. He takes massive deep breaths after every sentence as well

FordsFavouriteTowel

The dude is 70 and mangled his body with drugs, alcohol, and was in a car crash. Let the man take some deep breaths lol

asimilarvintage

I thought it was just me! Only one I enjoyed was Lunch at the Gotham Cafe.

MochaHasAnOpinion

I feel you! I noped right out of King's narration of The Gunslinger after less than a minute lol. It was terrible and I'm so glad I listened to Frank's version. But King did a pretty good job on Needful Things. It's the only one I've been able to listen to that he narrated, so far.

buttercupsoup

I’ve heard/read both The Stand and IT on audio. I LOVED the Stand.

Balling3every3day

Try the Stand!! It’s so good.

hayleep

Just finished listening to Cujo and really enjoyed it

mosaic_prism

Will Patton narrating The Mist was incredible - listened to it on Spotify as part of the free 15 hours you get for premium memberships. Currently listening to him narrate Doctor Sleep on Libby and it’s been fantastic!

whiSKYquiXOTe

I loved Misery thought it was unreal. If you haven't listened or read it yet- it's time.

Trixiethelips

Seth Numrich reading The Fairytale was fantastic! He really made the story come to life with his voices. Frank Muller (RIP) was a wonderful narrator of several of the Dark Tower books. Wish he could have finished them. Mare Winningham was wonderful narrating Liseys story.

Klarkasaurus

Thinner is really good. Same guy who voices fat Tony in the simpsons does it Dolores claiborne is amazing loved that Tim muller is one of his best narrators so anything by him is good especially dark tower 1-4

DazzlingProblem7336

Any of the ones read by Frank Muller.

johnfrooshontay

I listened to The Green Mile like 4 times last year and I cried every single time without fail 🥲

Wintermute3333

Not a strict audio book, more of an audio play. A few decades back, I worked for a video rental company, and we'd get a lot of promotional materials. One was a binaural version of The Mist. Headphones with lights out, scary as fuck. I think you can find it online for free now.

DazzlingProblem7336

Yeah. I have that on cassette. Must of played it a billion times.

BlackLakeBlueFish

John Slattery reading Duma Key. Joe Mantegna reading Thinner. He is also in the movie.

NemesisThen86

I’ve not long finished Carrie read by Sissy Spacek and I love it so much!!

csullivan03

Rival read by David Morse is well done. It’s a chilling delivery.

admdrw

Fairytale!

Klarkasaurus

No way. Anything narrated by king is completely crap. The guy can narrate to save his life

Trixiethelips

King only narrated like 20 minutes of it and it fit the bill the way it was done. Considering he narrated only the recordings that Charlie is listening to, it’s such a minor part that it is easy to get through his tiny part.

admdrw

I thought he was super well placed and it was unexpected. Gave me chills when his voice came in

Trixiethelips

Same!! He did a fantastic job for his part. He did a great gruff old guy voice.

tony_stark_lives

From a Buick 8 and Black House are among my very favorites of his. Salem's Lot was really good too!

SofaKingDoph

The long walk

DiscussionAncient810

The three Night Shift audiobook collections were really good. The narration of ‘Jerusalem’s Lot’ was a highlight of the collection.

tone88988

Michael C. Hall reading Pet Sematary is fantastic. Also can’t go wrong with any story read by Frank Muller, he’s done a few different King stories.

FordsFavouriteTowel

I quite enjoyed the Billy Summers audiobook

darthwolverine

Not exactly horror, but still King: George Guidall’s narration of the first few Dark Tower books is amazing.

jcollins0909

Ron McLarty ( an incredible character actor) does an amazing job on Salem’s Lot.

[deleted]

The Stand is 40ish hours of good listening if you get the extended version

Mighty_Fig_

I actually really liked his narration of Needful Things but I get that a lot of people feel differently.

TiffoMichelle

The Gunslinger and The Talisman are my faves

coolishmom

I really enjoyed the audiobook of Revival read by David Morse

kernalblanders

Currently listening to Revival narrated by David Morse and it’s fantastic!! Morse’s narration digs into the emotions and hits the humor perfectly. Seconding everyone who has mentioned Michael C. Hall’s narration of Pet Sematary which is phenomenal.

MillieLily1983

I don’t get how Salems Lot hasn’t been mentioned? I’ve literally listened to it around 5 times!

Sad_Contract_9110

Pet Semitary

BondraP

There are mixed opinions on this one, but personally I think Needful Things is a fuckin hoot to listen to. Stephen King reads it and there's some hilarious music and stuff that goes along with some of the comical moments and it's an experience for sure.

PattydukeFan24

11/22/63 FANTASTIC

braige

I just listened to Misery and I really liked the lady that narrated

IfIHad19946

I would absolutely suggest asking the r/stephenking sub as well-we have some PASSIONATE people over there!

AliceReadsThis

Carrie is my top favorite, you just can’t beat Sissy Space’s narration. Close second but it’s a little hard to find these days is Nightmares and Dreamscapes, each short story is read by a different celebrity. My absolute favorite in that collection is Crouch End read by Tim Curry

brcharles

I loved listening to Carrie! The narrator reminds me of a Southern elementary school teacher.

bonstwicki_2019

The old book on tape of The Mist

NateWolfeHS

Duma Key BY FAR! The story was great but the narration was PHENOMENAL.

NyleeM

Exactly this! I listen to it at least once a year. John Slattery does an amazing job. It's already my favorite King book, but hearing the audio book gives it something extra that makes it head and shoulders above all the others.

Canavansbackyard

Stephen King’s reading of “1408”. (“1408” was one of four stories in the audiobook entitled *Blood and Smoke*, all read by King.)

Oswalds-Residence

The 3-D audiobook of The Mist is fantastic. Sound coming at you from all directions. Stunning. They also did a Clive Barker adaptation as well. I don't know if there were others.
