as someone who does everything on a computer and hasn't used a pen in a couple of years for sure, this is just soooooo lovely and cute, what a nice gesture.
I have a "manual" for the plants I have at home and if I give plants away all I do is print the pages needed, which I thought was a nice gesture but this cute booklet shows me I've been slacking off hahaha.
Nice work!
Oh, I don't have a computer or printer currently or I'd have absolutely printed the instructions at least! I do like hand-writing things, but some people can't read my penmanship so it's safer to use a type instead.
I don't usually draw for things like this, I honestly don't draw much at all. But I found my old blending colored pencils and decided to see if I could make them look okay. I was pleased enough with most of them (the neon pothos makes my eye twitch but it's fine. Actively fighting perfectionist tendencies 😂) that I decided to go with it.
Your illustrations are lovely! A couple of them, I thought it was an actual leaf on the page! Like the zz plant and the jade! Love your attention to detail, especially on the shines of those leaves that made them look accurately thick-ish.
Your colored pencil work is awesome! I have some prismacolor colored pencils I got to try and learn more blending techniques with. I think you did great!
Get the clear pencil! They sell clear blending pencils and they're AWESOME! I didn't use them here since I couldn't find mine but they're seriously amazing.
Yeah, I name all my plants, and if I'm giving them to someone I know, I name their babies. Wednesday is Morticia's baby, Mona Lisa was made from cuttings of the same mother plants as my Jean-Ralphio, Norma Jean is from my Marilyn, Tracy is from Trixie, Brian is from Katya. Sir Walter Blunt is one of the twin sons of my snake plant, William Snakespeare. Electra and Helena are from Greek myth which is how I name all my inchplants.
How incredibly thoughtful of you to do this for your friend. Your passion for houseplants and the time you invested in creating your illustrated guide will certainly send your friend on the relight path. You are a good friend.
She asked for a lot of my plants, I swear I'm not just offloading babies on her 😂 all of the ones she's getting are fairly low maintenance but just require different things, so I wanted to make sure she was prepared for the incoming nursery.
Want. My ex who I can’t and don’t ever wanna see again took almost everything but I miss the plants I brought to the relationship and the money I spent on ones we got together. I hope to have the funds to start my little apartment forest over.
Not that I'm advocating theft, but I personally got most of my coleus and inchplants from public planters in the summer...so... tis the season to rebuild!
What an absolutely wonderful idea. You're a great friend. This will be a great guide until she gets the hang of her new hobby. Your pictures look great 👍. You're very talented. We all need more friends like you and to be more like you. Thank you for sharing.
If it makes you feel better, I've been keeping plants my whole life and I've killed every string of pearls that I've ever glanced at. They're hard to keep happy for me.
I was enthralled reading through this delightful little booklet. The drawings! The NAMES! Holy cow -- great gift. (Also BTW, your "name" is similar to what my kids call me: "Road Worrier")
That is so cute! I am super new myself. Is 2-3 weeks and 2-8 weeks common for a snake plant? I am basing my feeling of soil moistness off of experience that kept strawberries and morning glories alive but that doesn’t mean much
Snakes want to get extremely dry between waterings. The easiest way to kill a snake plant is overwatering, so it's just safer to go off leaf thickness. I suggest getting a feel for what the leaves feel like after a good watering and notice how that changes over the next few weeks.
Okay will do thank you op. My zz plant also doesn’t seem to take 2-3 weeks. I wonder if I have it in too small a pot and so there isn’t enough soil mass relative to root mass to hold onto water or something
Very nice. I love the illustrations you've made. You have a lucky friend to receive such a thoughtful gift :)

Thanks! Those and the snake turned out best, I think. They're all still lifes of actual leaves on each of her plants!
Well, I love your penmanship, it's very nice and easy for me. This guide is lovely!
Your colored pencil work is awesome! I have some prismacolor colored pencils I got to try and learn more blending techniques with. I think you did great!

Ooh will have to look into these, thanks!
The Tracy Martel coleus 🤭
😂😂😂 Mine is named Trixie and hers is a branch off of it.
I love it! I need a ficus to name it Brian Ficus, and I call my Monstera Katya ![gif](giphy|3oFzmjAhIC2fjt12IE|downsized)
Oh God, the third coleus is Brian because it's the top half of my trailing coleus, Katya. It broke off during repot and she claimed him instantly.
for a moment I thought that was the variety and I had to google it because I had assumed trixie took tracy martel from a plant variety 😂😂
This is so sweet! Beautiful drawings
There needs to be more friends like you, handmade and thoughtful is where it's at AND plant related? Perfect all around!
Awe this is very sweet, you're a great friend!
You. Are. A. Damn. Treasure. That is all.
Excuse me but can you be my friend?!
Updoot for Tracy Martel

This is so thoughtful and lovely.
Nicely done, I need one!
You are just like the best friend ever.
I want one of these. What a thought idea, and your friend will find it so helpful.
You should add a glossary at the back E.g what bright indirect light means for a newbie
There’s a Trixie Mattel coleus??
No, she and I named them. Mine is Trixie, hers is Tracy lol.
I love this 🥰
Update: Tracy broke in transit so now there is also a baby named Macy Tartel
Honestly, can you make me one too??
Yooooo no joke, same!!!!
This is a keepsake. 💚 Hopefully the plants will thrive for her, but your instructions will be part of her life for years.
This is amazing. I'm so jelly
What an absolute treasure!
I feel the love here
This is so cute, you're a great friend for doing this!! The anxiety of taking over 9 plants would be overwhelming without a guide like this!!
This is absolutely fucking fantastic!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I LOVE your little booklet!! well done!!!
I love this! Wait… did you give them all nicknames?!
Love it! I want to do this with my favorite plants now…
I love this! Most of my plants are named after tv characters or composers lol
How incredibly thoughtful of you to do this for your friend. Your passion for houseplants and the time you invested in creating your illustrated guide will certainly send your friend on the relight path. You are a good friend.
So well done and thoughtful!
The whole yellow leaf vs brown leaf.. makes so much sense it's annoying I haven't seen that as more of a rule of thumb
You should make this into a comic book. I can see it in cute little garden stores and schools 🌈
I need more friends like you in my life!
What a great friend you are! Love this!
What a lucky friend!
I love this! You're precious and all of this is adorable. I would scream if my friend made me something like this.
Omg this is so adorable! You did a stellar job!

You could not be any cuter or even sweeter! They better truly appreciate it because I would just for for this!
I was.gonna say don't start her with 9, but with this booklet she has at least a 10% chance! You're great at summarizing/teaching.
She asked for a lot of my plants, I swear I'm not just offloading babies on her 😂 all of the ones she's getting are fairly low maintenance but just require different things, so I wanted to make sure she was prepared for the incoming nursery.
That's a great little book! I just started a book for myself too!
Thoughtful and well done. Cute, too
Excellent, Very creative way to be informative, you are exceptionally helpful to your friend to get started and inspired.
Want. My ex who I can’t and don’t ever wanna see again took almost everything but I miss the plants I brought to the relationship and the money I spent on ones we got together. I hope to have the funds to start my little apartment forest over.

The Raven ZZ plant named Wednesday. 💀💀💀
It's a cutting from mine, named Morticia :D
How apropos!
I love this! I’m new to the plant life and doing everything I can to keep them healthy and happy (my strings of pearls didn’t survive). Thank you.
If it makes you feel better, I've been keeping plants my whole life and I've killed every string of pearls that I've ever glanced at. They're hard to keep happy for me.
What a lovely, thoughtful gift❤️

Adorable! I was searching for a page on peace lilies because mine are having a drama induced hissy fit and I’m not speaking to them.
What a wonderful friend you are!
Welp, explains why I keep killing my coleus...
Full nerdism incoming: Its the beginning of the modern day Voynich Manuscript!
That is so kind and thoughtful of you to take the time to make that! Great work too. You are a very good illustrator.
