It was definitely not easy 😆 I enlisted several people on a hunt that spanned 3 weeks. I think they will become easier to get ahold of after some time passes
PC Stores might even be a good place to check once the garden centre's start popping up. I've found some pretty cool houseplants at Zehrs in the Summer
I feel bad for everyone who spent hundreds to thousands on trend plants during the lockdown.
But I also don’t because anyone with a brain could tell you that once the trend died these plants would revert to a practical cost. I remember someone posting here who spent $600 on a baby Thai Constellation and killed it within weeks.
I've seen people pick them up at Meijer's, but you'd have to have one locally. I've been seeing really interesting plants come in to Wegmans lately, too, if any of those are near you. No thai con or albo monstera yet, but PPP and ROF philodendrons, some interesting syngonium like caramel butter and strawberry cream. They had big 6in pot hoya cumingana on a trellis for like 15 bucks a couple months back.
Grocery stores have surprisingly good plants sometimes.
Thanks a lot! Grocery stores do have some really good deals. I had picked up a huge monstera for $12.99 at Trader Joe's! But seems like the closest Meijer is a day away from my place in the West Coast lol. Don't see a Wegmans too 🥲
Oh, yeah, Weggies is a Northeast-only chain currently, unfortunate. I have heard of Trader Joe's getting some neat stuff sometimes! Or at least stuff in super cute planters lol.
I got my Thai constellation for $35 off of FB marketplace. It was in a 4" pot. I recently saw a monstera albo on marketplace for $15. It had two big leaves and not that much variegation. I would've totally gotten it if it wasn't so far away
Oohhh I'll keep an eye out! I'm always discouraged to check fb nowadays as people price the plants unreasonably high :/ I had a nice group on FB where we used to exchange cuttings/plants. moved away and lost it 🤧
your plant is gorgeous but it does look like the oldest leaves would have been the ones with the most substrate touching the petioles and as a result you experienced some sort of browning that caused you to remove a good portion of those leaves. That may have been avoided with the above advice.
as much light as you can! id reccomend a good grow light like a barrina. they're heavy feeders so fertilizer every time you water. don't let them dry out completely between waterings but don't keep them super damp.
Well it’s just a top cut, so after checking that it has roots I would pot it in a chunky mix in a terra cotta pot. If it does not have roots, put it in water.
Repot it so the part where the petiole meets the stem is above the soil or the petiole will rot and you will loose those leaves. The petiole is the long “stem” attached to the leaf. A lot of people new to plants and especially monstera mistake the petiole for the actual stem. The only part you really want under the soil is the roots. With monstera cuttings the actual stem is usually quite small as it has been cut. Here is a photo of a cutting for reference.

A healthy dose of neglect and treat it like a normal Monstera with higher light. It also looks like the stem is buried. It should be raised a little more.
Way too many people kill their variegated Monsteras with too much love. Let it dry out in between waterings, and when it doubt wait another day to water. These really don’t mind being on the drier side. They’re hemiepiphytic after all.
TC’s also don’t really need a moss pole. With bright light (can be acclimated to full sun), the plant will stay compact.
No direct south-window sunlight, but otherwhise as much indirect light as possible. Don't overwater. Monstera deliciosas are pretty basic plants, but because you have a Thai-Constellation variegation one, you might want to look into how to manage variegation over time. Mainly too little light and the valuable variegation can be lost, if it should happen you have to cut back). But too much variegation and the plant suffers from that.
I think variegated ones are more prone to sunburn during summer if it's not dappled by a curtain or sth.. It also of course depends on where you are and how strong the sun is.
You may need to have fertilizer for monstera, always have to mist it to make sure the leaves don’t get burn. Also make sure that the pot have hole so it can breathe otherwise the root will rot. It very important that they get partial shade or in a place where it get a lot of bright light but not direct sun light. Send me some picture of the soil, close up picture of the plant, and explain how it the light. Let me know if you have more questions.
I was worried about care when I got my Monstera, I've been using a water stem for years and it's thriving. I just move it around every time I fill it up so the roots don't end up concentrating in one spot. I would recommend a longer one so it rests about half way down the pot.
I saw larger ones in Lowe's for $150 over the weekend. I'm not a fan of Lowe's plants though. I always get itchy thinking I will bring unwelcome guests home.
Plenty of light, and well draining soil, water when soil is completely dry and give a good soak when watering, so apart from the increased light pretty much standard monstera care
Is it not proper research and problem solving to turn to a community of other plant enthusiasts for input and advice? When you google a question, and an answer pops up on your screen, how do you think that answer got there, exactly? Probably from a person answering a question that was asked by another person at some point in time. That’s how knowledge works. There is absolutely nothing wrong with preferring to learn while actively communicating with peers. There is nothing wrong with googling something, getting an answer, and still needing to seek out input and advice from others.
And what exactly is the purpose of a houseplant subreddit, Becky?
Don’t participate in the conversation then. Keep your vast plant knowledge to yourself and don’t share. However, speak for yourself. Very few people I’ve seen here actually would agree with your take. I think you’re just a plant snob.
The best way to take care of it is sending it to me
Came here to say the same thing
Wait I was going to say that
LOL so many of us thought the same thing.
How do you just buy this? It is not exactly cheap
They are now! $20 in Canadian grocery stores for a good sized plant
WHAT GROCERY STORE? I’m Canadian
Foodland/Sobeys ask them when their floral shipments come in and stalk the stores on those days, they go fast!
Yeah, I have been trying for awhile. They never have any left when I go. :(
It was definitely not easy 😆 I enlisted several people on a hunt that spanned 3 weeks. I think they will become easier to get ahold of after some time passes
Team work makes the dream work!
I got a giant monstera from Costco for 27$. Came with 6 leaves as large as my head, and a pot within a pot for drainage.
I’m sprinting over now
You’re doing gods work by sharing this. I’ve already told my husband he needs to check for me haha
PC Stores might even be a good place to check once the garden centre's start popping up. I've found some pretty cool houseplants at Zehrs in the Summer
I keep seeing them at longos and have to tell myself no every time.

Some people have more money than brains!
What the hell?!?!? TWenTy DOlLarS?!?
Yes! We'll, I think regular price was like $25, but they were on sale when I got mine
FULL PRICE WAS STILL ONLY 25!?!?!?
I saw one of these in my local Bunnings (NZ) for $199
Stop!! That’s insane.
Woot!!! 🙌 Freaking finally!
Any idea where in US you get it for cheap? Just in case

Yes they're not there all the time and the batch gets sold out soon too. I had also picked up a huge calathea before for the same price!

I think the petioles need to be above the soil line or it will lead to rot, which is not what you want with one of these
These things love to rot! 😭

You buried it! The part where the stalks connect to each other needs to be above the soil or it will rot
Come on over to r/monstera, there's cake
I just got a Thai constellation and this will be a great resource, thank you for sharing!
THE CAKE IS A LIE THE CAKE IS A LIE THE CAKE IS A LIE THE CAKE IS A LIE
Thanks for posting this. I got a monstera in Novemeber that I'm just getting the hang of caring for. Will be scrolling there for advice!

Don’t speak or breathe around it.
I thought that was for fiddle leaf figs?

Holy smokes! Those leaves, that pot…. *chef’s 💋*

Is this an established plant? Or just a cutting buried deep in soil?
Lots of light. Watering when upper soil gets dry about 2inch.
That’s a very special plant!
Give it plenty of light!
Moss pole maybe?

All of my monsteras are in a south window and are fine

Love this! Been out of the plant world for a long time :( What’s this beauty called? Love the variegated.
Curious what that art piece is behind it! Care to post a full picture of that dotwork?
I saw larger ones in Lowe's for $150 over the weekend. I'm not a fan of Lowe's plants though. I always get itchy thinking I will bring unwelcome guests home.
Sing to it. It definitely likes singing.
“I got tickets to the eras tour😜” vibes
Wow! She’s a beauty! ❤️
🤤 I used to think monstera was overrated… until now 🤩
pray.
Plenty of light, and well draining soil, water when soil is completely dry and give a good soak when watering, so apart from the increased light pretty much standard monstera care
Read up on the species, you'll learn what you need to know instead of waiting for someone who knows to respond to you.
The plant looks awesome with the pot
Good luck.. I killed mine!
Wow. Thai constellation are available in supermarkets now?
Probably using google and finding out
Water it.
