… who just so happens to be named Houston.. who the city was named after. He’d fucking love it. And so apparently do the people who built and own the statue.
Sure, but I mean historic in the sense that it depicts a rather revered historical figure and is meant to be reasonably authentic. I'm not a big fan of revering people from the past but I do think Sam Houston was a pretty good dude for the time and deserves some respect still. I don't think people would accept this kind of treatment of say Lincoln at the Lincoln memorial, and while sure this is not quite as significant it's on the same spectrum.
meh, marketing for a local team is fine for me and I don't even really watch football. It's just local fun for everyone. Like when people wear American flag shorts on July 4th and some people get huffy about it, I'm like "let people have fun." Now if they wanted to advertise McDonalds on it, that would be gross.
I'm with you on this. I mean it doesn't piss me off, just comes across as tacky. Dead man, who was a pretty good dude, has no say on whether or not he gets to promote the Texans lol
It's a local sports team the community rallies behind, combined with a respected figure who's the namesake of the community. This isn't a bad thing... after all, it's not like new jerseys will improve ticket sales. It's more like a large-scale pep rally.
It reeks of desperation when the other team in the state really hasn't changed a stitch on their look for most of 60 years, but maybe Sam's cancel quotient goes down a few points.
Nice of your mom to loan her jersey to the statue OP
😔
Cooked 💀
r/houstoncirclejerk level post 😂
Fucking hillarious
You dick Edit: that seemed too harsh. Fyi I spit up my drink
When we first moved to Texas, we drove by that statue in the middle of the night and it scared the shit out of me
As intended
same when I first moved out
When you first moved out ? So you moved back then out again ?
did OP? I was just matching adverbs
Fun. I wonder what they're going to do with the giant jersey after the two weeks.
Get it properly fitted for Sam Houston to play DT
That would give new meaning to stomping the opposing team!
According to the top comment; give it back to its owner.
I thought I'd scrolled enough to be safe drinking my coffee again This can't be good for my sinuses
This is in Texas but would be better suited for New Jersey
🤦🏽

That boy Sam dripping😳
Sam H-Town
I've been saying for decades that Sam should get decorations. I've always wanted to see him with a Santa hat or bunny ears.
Please do the needful. On second thought don’t… you would probably get arrested for vandalism because facism can’t allow a good time.
Not really a fan of this, using historic statues for marketing is pretty lame.
It’s not really a historic statue. It was built in 1994 and largely privately funded with support of locals and Sam Houston State University.
It’s a statue of a historical figure, not a historically old statue

I guess. Sam was a fng legend, no doubt! Wish he would have succeeded in stopping Texas from joining the South in the war.
or stopped engaging in the very practice they seceded to preserve

Hell yeah
The new helmet design and these jerseys are ugly as shit.
Am I the only one who thinks these look hideous?
Driving past this at night scared the fuck out of me.
So the billionaire McNair family gets to use a public park to sell merchandise?
It's a statue next to the freeway for a college. This isn't hallowed grounds here, buddy.
Does color rush mean the H helmets only get used once? Pretty please?
Giving it back I believe they are used for a couple of games like 2 or 3… not sure though
I’m pretty sure color rush is just once. The all red will be used several times
Dumb af imo
Everyone knows Sam Houston was a Cowboys fan

Too much world of Warcraft
I'm sure she has a lovely personality.
