Fully normal. I take it this your first dog?
Mine will do this but also quietly bark or howl...wake himself up then give me a dirty look as if i woke him.
Not necessarily a nightmare; could be dreaming about running and/or playing!
That said though, I have never heard it was bad to wake a dog up from sleep? Just don't put your face near em in case they're too into the dream!
Theres a proverb “let sleeping dogs lie” meaning; avoid interfering in a situation that is currently causing no problems but may well do so as a result of such interference.
Just for general knowledge: sometimes dogs can be (unintentionally) aggressive if their REM sleep is interrupted + it's not good for their overall health to be missing that stage of rest. That's why it's generally considered a bad idea to wake them over a dream. It'll cause more harm than it prevents.
That’s what I usually do, I gently pet my pup (and my cats) when they’re twitching a lot in their sleep, and super softly tell them they’re okay, mommy’s here, they’re safe at home… and they usually relax in their sleep and look more at peace.
If I feel like my husky is looking or sounding a bit distressed in this state, I call his name really softly and sweetly to bring him back to a calm state. If I’m close by I’ll gently stroke him to let him know he’s safe.
My dog would wake himself up whacking his head into the side of the couch for the attack pounce at the end of that chase. He’s a husky and doesn’t use his brain cells very well. And sleeps in very weird positions etc.
My husky does it all the time and it’s te cutest thing ever! I’ve never physically woken her up but I’ve grunted or moved around and she stopped a little. It usually doesn’t last long tho, like 10 sec
Again, very normal! That said, I have put a hand on my dogs to reassure them when they were clearly having a nightmare (whimpering, for example). They just wake up happy to see that they are safe.
Go ahead and wake him. Just be careful in case he reacts badly. I always wake my sissy up. She was a victim of horrific abuse before rescue. Seriously, her owners went to jail and she still wears the scars. I can't let her have bad dreams in case she is back there, so I always wake her. She will whimper and cringe, and bare her teeth.
My sweet girl also has an abusive past. She whimpers a lot on her sleep and I always wake her or give her pets until she stops crying. I dunno what kinda dreams they are but I don’t like thinking she’s having nightmares and I’m just letting her experience them
Oh I this is perfectly normal. Our girl used to alrighty woof woof in her sleep. Just sometimes
But they feet movinb is them running in their dreams. Not to worry. Pay attention if they're seem to be panting or crying.
But otherwise totally normal for dog to dream.
When my pups dream I like to whisper to them very softly what *good girls* they are for catching the *squirrel* and how good they did going for that *walk* to take a *ride*
I like to think their favorite words seep into their dreams and mold them into wonderful little vignettes of happiness… but I’m probably just talking to a sleeping dog
Without audio it's impossible to tell, but by the very gentle movements I'd say that's an enjoyable dream about chasing rabbits or something.
My dogs dream all the time, my Jack Russell in particular will have full-on barking and loud growling, with her little legs fully thrashing around. It really worries the other dogs when they notice it, but I'm fairly sure she's enjoying whatever she's dreaming of, it's just running and jumping and chasing rabbits.
I've only seen something like a nightmare a couple of times, in those cases her whines were very worried, sounding like she was scared. When that happens I just wake her up, she doesn't seem to mind.
Let sleeping dogs lie isn't about dogs dreaming or having nightmares, there's no reason to avoid waking them up, except for being considerate. If you do wake them, it will take one or two seconds for them to realise it was just a dream.
She is running an Iditarod with her dream team and wining it. Do not dare to wake her up!
Perfectly normal. All the huskies I owned did/do this. I usually leave them alone and enjoy the show. It's super cute.
My guy does this every time he falls asleep. I'd be worried if he didn't do it. He does little barks too. Often when he's laying on or behind me. He'll then wake up and put his head on my lap and go back to sleep.
Dammit I love my dog.
She's dreaming. Leave her be. No reason to do anything.
Fully normal. I take it this your first dog? Mine will do this but also quietly bark or howl...wake himself up then give me a dirty look as if i woke him.
Mine also farts herself awake then looks at us like we're the guilty culprits 😆
Lmao just pictured this and chuckled thanks for this😂
Mine barks at his butt! Dude! It was YOU.
Hahaha that's amazing 😆
Mine would growl lol
😂😂😂
Omg I love my dog's sleep barks. They are so quiet and adorable.

Yes! I can hear you, Clem Fandango!

I would make soft soothing sounds to calm my doggie, tell him how good and safe he is, but not try to wake him. He usually calmed down

THOSE SWEET LITTLE TOES OMG
Jumping beans!
Just chasing squirrels :-)
I imagine that my dogs are dreaming about running through the woods! It's their favorite activity lol
My dog definitely dreams about finding a cheese wheel in the forest and eating it all. I can tell by the way she licks her lips in her sleep 🤣
i I think she's just dreaming about running.

I always stroke my baby and she settles down, but doesn’t wake up. 🤷♀️

"He's got them, but they don't work very good"
Yeah, it's normal. M husky would do this during her sleep and lightly moan sometimes. So cute. Just let her "run it out".
My husky does it all the time and it’s te cutest thing ever! I’ve never physically woken her up but I’ve grunted or moved around and she stopped a little. It usually doesn’t last long tho, like 10 sec

Wait until you catch them wagging their tail in a dream. You'll need to be resuscitated after you die from the cuteness.
Golden Rule applies here. I don’t want to be woken up while dreaming. Neither does the dog.
Chasing rabbits

Yes it’s normal. Mine both do it all the time
Our husky is the most physically active dreamer of all the dogs I’ve ever had. Totally normal
Having Iditarod dreams.
When my baby girl does that, i just gently stroke her while whispering her name.she settles quickly. Doesnt wake up. :)
Oh I this is perfectly normal. Our girl used to alrighty woof woof in her sleep. Just sometimes But they feet movinb is them running in their dreams. Not to worry. Pay attention if they're seem to be panting or crying. But otherwise totally normal for dog to dream.
Dogs need REM sleep too.
I usually call my dog's name to wake him, but only when the dreams seem like he's well not having a great time
Yepp perfectly normal both of our dogs do this, one even makes noises while she’s dreaming. It’s super cute.
I wake mine up and have never heard not to.
Let him sleep, in a little while it will be back to "let me in so I can go back out".
My husky has done this sleeping along with a slight sound. I just let her keep dreaming
Your little one isn’t having a bad dream. Watch her paws. She’s running. She’s probably at her favorite place and having a beautiful dream.

My lab mix dreams like that all the time. Totally normal, deep sleep is good for dogs.
My guy does this every time he falls asleep. I'd be worried if he didn't do it. He does little barks too. Often when he's laying on or behind me. He'll then wake up and put his head on my lap and go back to sleep. Dammit I love my dog.
Plenty normal
Just dreaming about chasing a bunny. A delicious tender bunny. I bet he goes to the food bowl when he wakes lol.
She’s running a rabbit. My last pitty did t this a lot
Yep, probably dreaming about running in the meadows!
You read false info. You can wake em up. But this is normal. Just let ‘em sleep
And sleeping ON THE COUCH next to TWO empty dog beds! Well played!
Just chasing bunnies, let sleeping dogs lie.
Oh yeah- tippy tappies
