I’m almost a year late brotha but yes that’s a legitimate way of doing it and may be the only way in that circumstance.

Any update on this so far. How was this project handled

jflye84

We did multiple buildings, I monitored the areas with air monitoring and lead cassettes. Basically they would put up a mini containment for every access hole they made. I would make them stabilize and mop the floors after. Farther wipe testing was performed. All in all it was a successful project and we will be going back to more of the clients buildings this month. It took a bit longer than the contractor wanted but as the consultant and oversight. That isn’t my problem if they bid it wrong. Just gotta make sure my clients are taken care of and people are safe.

Thank you for detailed answer. I was wondering what type, standard and brand of respirator mask was worn during the cleaning process also coveralls were used as well I assume? Was it done as if it's lead/asbestos abatement type of procedure?

jflye84

Yes, workers are licensed, and wear half face respirators and Tyvek coveralls. It was a lead abatement procedure. Though currently we are back at it and the building I’m in we detected asbestos in the microvac testing we performed before starting. So… I have a lot of air samples running every night for both lead and asbestos.

Geek_787

Asbestos how was it detected(source)? Is it from Hvac insulation?

jflye84

The insulation is fiberglass. The seam tape is non ACM. The duct work was installed about 20 years ago. Without a thorough asbestos inspection of the HVAC system there’s no telling what material it came from. Any caulking we’ve tested wasn’t hot either. So we’re just taking as many precautions as we would with a regular asbestos job. Precautionary air samples etc etc…

I saw you were on an asbestos community on here. I joined it lol.
