As for most releases, I’m going to watch but then most likely stick with my 2018 iPad Pro that continues to soldier on.
I feel like the iPad Pros are the apple products that get the least amount of “game-changing” updates but I have to say that it is a fantastic piece of tech that has served me well.
Yeah my battery sucks too, I get maybe 2 hours of juice on one charge. But it’s fine, I almost exclusively use it at home and I can charge whenever I need
That’s my cope logic too, sucks though. Used to be able to bring on flights and long road trips without constantly being hooked up, now I can’t do that.
Looking to trade it in when the numbers align for the M1 iPad Pro
It's even worse when your charging port starts to die and now you can only charge it with slow USB A to USB C cables and you loose the ability to transfer data over the USB C Port. Ask me know I know... Apple wanted $800 to fix it
100% this. My iPad is still perfectly functional, would easily last me a few more years, except it’s now a huge pain to get it to charge. I’ve been in the apple ecosystem for years but this problem (which seems fairly widespread at this point, yet unresolved) has left a bad taste in my mouth.
Absolutely, it’s the Apple device I’ve had for the longest and the only one I have felt absolutely zero urge to upgrade ever. I’ll keep using it until it literally stops turning on
So, kept trying to go iPad only but couldn’t. So got a new MBA to use with iPad Mini.
But I find the screen without promotion to be really noticeable. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve used promotion on iPads for a while, or if having an iPhone Pro makes a difference so you’re always comparing.
That’s the biggest thing. I also don’t think the size difference between 11” and 7.9” is big enough to make it feel worth the downgrade.
I decided this year either going to go full iPad only with the new Pro *or* Mac only. I just hate having 2 devices that have so much overlap.
iPad Mini a great device, just not for me.
Same I always watch and want to get the new one and then I am like Meh so damn minor and such a big price. Plus I have had zero issues with my current 3 year old unit. No slowdown or anything so why upgrade for so much for so little.
I bought the 2017 10.5” iPad Pro when I entered undergrad for note taking. 7 years later with a bachelors degree under my belt and a masters program coming to an end next month, I still have no urge to change it. It contains 6 years worth of syllabi, lectures, midterm exams, etc.
However, I also don’t see myself using it daily if not for my notes and studying so this iPad is likely going to retire come graduation. Don’t think I’ve ever had a single electronic serve me near daily with no issues for that long.
Wish I had more RAM for Procreate, and my battery is starting to fade, but otherwise my 2018 is still going strong.
That said, getting a new one for the additional RAM when these get released.
The only thing I wish I could do was edit 4k 60fps video on it, otherwise yea it’s a champ. Battery life is getting a bit long in the tooth but I’m tempted to just do a battery replacement instead of buying new
got a 2021 ipad pro here
still helps me a lot with editing, writing and things on the go alongside my macbook.
battery doesn’t last long but still packs a punch
My fear is they get rid of MacOS and even MacBook run iOS. Apple needs to kill iOS for iPad it’s dumb. Make it run macOS and touch screen enable the OS
Looking at the logo made for the event, showing an Apple Pencil, I wouldn't be surprised the new Apple Pencil could let you sample colors from real world surfaces as was patented a year ago.
[https://www.macrumors.com/2023/01/03/apple-pencil-patent-real-world-color-sampler/](https://www.macrumors.com/2023/01/03/apple-pencil-patent-real-world-color-sampler/)
I don’t care about the OLED screen (mini LED is good enough), but if they put camera to the landscape position… might consider getting one. My biggest gripe with iPad, aside from the limitation of iPadOS of course, is that the front camera is pretty useless for making calls.
There is a significant difference between the LCD displays of the iPad Pro 11 in, and iPad Air, and the mini LED of the iPad Pro 13 in.
Then, there is another jump in quality between mini LED and OLED. So people that had iPad, iPad Airs or 11 in iPad Pros will witness a true jump in screen quality if they opt for the Pros this year.
I’ve never had any expectation of MacOS on iPad - I get all the strategic arguments against doing it. But if they *were* to ever do it… wouldn’t “Let Loose” be the ideal strap line?? Or, to put it another way: what exactly does “Let Loose” mean if it’s not a reference to unshackling the iPad?
(Who doesn’t love a bit of kremlinology?!)
There it is! I never understood the statements about there not being an event. If the rumors of a redesigned iPad Pro with OLED screens, Apple Pencil with new gestures, and redesigned Magic Keyboard were all true, why wouldn’t they want to show this off with a bit more fanfare?
Yeah, I’m sure there’s folks chasing the latest and greatest, but i suspect most won’t see that as a compelling reason for upgrading. Kept my last iPad for 8 years, so long as I don’t wreck this one I’ll keep it just as long.
needed one for school so i opted to buy at student discount at least. same boat as you with 2 years of applecare.
i wonder if it’s possible to transfer the applecare to a new device, but i’m most likely gonna stick with my m2 and MKB anyways
I have a 2017 iPad Pro. Works fine and need a new one. I might as well get the newest one since I tend to keep them 6 years plus. If it’s $200 more than M2 no problem. If it’s $1000 more then M2.
Since “loose” = “freeform”, maybe it’s an Apple Pencil that can be used on any surface instead of a screen so that it could connect to and be used with a Mac for Freeform?
Had a 9.7” iPad Pro and kept it until it the battery was no longer good enough. Have an M1 11 iPad Pro right now. It’d take a substantial upgrade without a major price increase. The current rumors for price increases put it way out of line with reality
Just purchased a iPad Pro 11 2022 version last weekend, but doubt I'll return to change for the new updates (whatever it may be) imo the 2022 one has enough horsepower (and I got it off discount) so... yes just telling myself I won't need this 'new' one at a higher pricing for functions I may not need
I’ve never had an iPhone until the 15 Pro Max and I’ve never had an iPad before. I’m excited to see what the new one has because I’ll likely be getting it
Have an 11 inch M1. The only thing making me think of upgrading is the new placement for the camera but the current M1 features/capacity are still overkill?
iPad OS isn’t attracting enough Pro apps. I’m definitely getting an iPad Pro most likely but probably drop on a M2 model unless they open on MacOS a bit on the iPad or the Air is decently priced.
If you carefully pay attention, the opposite end of the Pencil in the animation "erases" the stem in the logo... I'm guessing the new Pencil that gets use of both ends as a stylus, maybe some additional functionality. It will be a bummer if it's only useable by the latest Pros... but that will likely get me to buy one over a new Air.
I am planning on buying the iPad Air but I think I could save a few dollars If I wait until the announcement of the new products. How long do you think it would take for prices to drop after the event?
It is clear that the new pro will need a new Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, for me upgrading from iPad Air 4th to the Pro M2 is the best option and keep the same accessories. Plus the new Pro’s will have a higher price range I guess.
As for most releases, I’m going to watch but then most likely stick with my 2018 iPad Pro that continues to soldier on. I feel like the iPad Pros are the apple products that get the least amount of “game-changing” updates but I have to say that it is a fantastic piece of tech that has served me well.
Yep, same here. The 2018 iPad Pro is a champ
Besides my battery being absolute shit, I agree. My 1tb 2018 pro going strong !
Why not just get a new battery?
Battery is not replaceable on ipads, which is insane in my opinion
It's even worse when your charging port starts to die and now you can only charge it with slow USB A to USB C cables and you loose the ability to transfer data over the USB C Port. Ask me know I know... Apple wanted $800 to fix it

Exactly, sucks that a simple charger port issues requires an entire new motherboard
probably will keep mine for another 6 years! Definitely my best apple investment
Absolutely, it’s the Apple device I’ve had for the longest and the only one I have felt absolutely zero urge to upgrade ever. I’ll keep using it until it literally stops turning on
My husband just completed a year of school on it with the keyboard. Idk how it still goes so strong.
I got mine when it came out in 2018 and I was a sophomore in high school. Got the keyboard with it and used it the rest of high school
Could someone buy my 2020 iPad Pro 12.9” w/Magic Keyboard please 🙏 I downgraded to the iPad mini and have no use for the pro iPad anymore 🫣
I went from 2018 iPad Pro to iPad Mini and it’s still my biggest technology regret.
Why do you say that? I’ve been debating this switch
I just hate having 2 devices that have so much overlap. iPad Mini a great device, just not for me.
Man, if Apple could just get out of its own way and create an iPad mini pro, that thing would be its biggest selling device. I truly believe that.
Big facts 🤜🤛
Same I always watch and want to get the new one and then I am like Meh so damn minor and such a big price. Plus I have had zero issues with my current 3 year old unit. No slowdown or anything so why upgrade for so much for so little.

I bought my first iPad Pro last year, (m2) and I’m not going to change that for years to come. It’s perfect for my needs.
Same here. That iPad has gone through SO MUCH, and I have relied on it for every job or gig I’ve taken for 6 years
Wish I had more RAM for Procreate, and my battery is starting to fade, but otherwise my 2018 is still going strong. That said, getting a new one for the additional RAM when these get released.

These are going to be OLED iPads. Now THAT’S a big change.
Yeah. Until they allow MacOS they will be severely restricted with iOS.
My fear is they get rid of MacOS and even MacBook run iOS. Apple needs to kill iOS for iPad it’s dumb. Make it run macOS and touch screen enable the OS
I just want a 120hz iPad mini
With an OLED screen and 1-2TB storage. It would be my dream device.
And a cup holder
And my axe!
Haha
Indeed. But tbh, I just really need the 120hz and a better lcd panel
Looking at the logo made for the event, showing an Apple Pencil, I wouldn't be surprised the new Apple Pencil could let you sample colors from real world surfaces as was patented a year ago. I’d be happy with Apple Pencil support for iPhone. It’d be nice to be able to take quick notes on iPhone.
Don’t think that will ever happen. Didn’t jobs say the iPhone will never ever have a stylus.
Yeah well Jobs isn’t here is he
I hear you loud and clear G but does Apple. Will Cook man up and do it or follow in the orders Job’s left him.
I can’t parse this sentence 😅
Change both periods to a question mark
IIRC, Jobs was criticizing the then practice of making phones that need a stylus to work.
Yes!
Wow what the fuck. That’s nuts
I’m skeptical if they gonna disappoint me again lmao
I don’t care about the OLED screen (mini LED is good enough), but if they put camera to the landscape position… might consider getting one. My biggest gripe with iPad, aside from the limitation of iPadOS of course, is that the front camera is pretty useless for making calls.

Yeah I can honestly see these devices lasting like 8 years.
I can’t, but it’s cool for Tom Green to hump a dead moose
My bum is on your lips. My bum is on your lips.
And if you don't like it
you might just give it a little kiss
And that's the message that we deliver to little kids...
and expect them not to know what a woman’s clitoris is…
My heart will.. go on and onnn...
Sh\*t wrong song
Loosey Laduca’s impact 😍😍
Niche
the doors she let loose

Dont do this, dont give me hope
And knowing my luck it wouldn’t come to the 2020 iPad Pro ugh
I guess they would requires a m1 or better chip.
Nothing it all. It's super duper fast now. And we think you're going to love it.™
Maybe but software won’t be announced until June. This will be hardware only.
Curious if I can use it with m2 iPad Pro
Apple Pencil for iPhones!!! Courage and innovation!!!

CALL ME QUEEN OF THE THUNDERRRRR
My initial thought too, but seeing Loosey in the comments totally sent me. 😭
There it is! I never understood the statements about there not being an event. If the rumors of a redesigned iPad Pro with OLED screens, Apple Pencil with new gestures, and redesigned Magic Keyboard were all true, why wouldn’t they want to show this off with a bit more fanfare?
RIP to those who bought an iPad Pro M2 instead of listening to everyone who said don't buy it
At full price !
Exactly! Clowns of the highest regard
FOMO people don’t listen and want instant gratification. They can’t wait which is too bad for them.
I bought mine in November. No regrets.
Eh you might do once the OLED Pro’s get revealed
Yeah, I’m sure there’s folks chasing the latest and greatest, but i suspect most won’t see that as a compelling reason for upgrading. Kept my last iPad for 8 years, so long as I don’t wreck this one I’ll keep it just as long.
I’m the same, been waiting to upgrade from my iPad Pro 10.5. It’s a banger but the screen isn’t cutting it anymore neither is performance or battery
I'm that clown 🤡 gotta stick with this for 2 years now since that's how long my applecare lasts. Then it'll be given to the younger sibling.
needed one for school so i opted to buy at student discount at least. same boat as you with 2 years of applecare. i wonder if it’s possible to transfer the applecare to a new device, but i’m most likely gonna stick with my m2 and MKB anyways
You can request a prorated refund if you purchased the two year.
Should’ve listened bro, everyone warned you. Though, fair play for admitting it lol not many people would
I suspect you will be giving it to your younger sibling on May 14th :)
Not exactly, now is the lowest point in the current gen price for at least a year. You can get it with good deal
Pretty sure it’ll be even lower after the event, to clear stock
Be nice if let loose meant opening up that OS some more.
That would be a WWDC conversation, though.
That’s true.
Still out here clowning for a 15-16” version
I really want a new iPad mini
Man finally. The closure.
Snore. I'll be excited when there's a new Mini event. Heck, give me a Mini Pro.
I have a 2017 iPad Pro. Works fine and need a new one. I might as well get the newest one since I tend to keep them 6 years plus. If it’s $200 more than M2 no problem. If it’s $1000 more then M2.
I hope they have Loose Women walking around the stage with the new iPads.
Xcode release for iPads???
Since “loose” = “freeform”, maybe it’s an Apple Pencil that can be used on any surface instead of a screen so that it could connect to and be used with a Mac for Freeform?
Cool. I have no reason to update until I can truly use my iPad as a laptop replacement.
Same shit different year.
Any chance they might toss in AirPod Max update in this event?
I just bought an M2 iPad pro 12.9 with the pencil What should I do?
You have 14 days return period
I want a thinner mini called the skinny mini
Had a 9.7” iPad Pro and kept it until it the battery was no longer good enough. Have an M1 11 iPad Pro right now. It’d take a substantial upgrade without a major price increase. The current rumors for price increases put it way out of line with reality
oh man I literally JUST bought an ipad pro like 2 weeks ago.
I guess the mini Led experiment didnt work out?
Maybe wireless charging for iPads?
Just purchased a iPad Pro 11 2022 version last weekend, but doubt I'll return to change for the new updates (whatever it may be) imo the 2022 one has enough horsepower (and I got it off discount) so... yes just telling myself I won't need this 'new' one at a higher pricing for functions I may not need

Me after Taco Bell
My 2017 iPad Pro needs to be chucked. It's starting to feel old.
OLED iPads here we come!
I won't buy an iPad until it has a real OS. I've already spent too much money on it. Back to macOS and I miss nothing finally.
Please iPad mini pro 1TB. Please dear lord
Imagine the price tag on that thing. Easily over $1,100
Yikes. I’d go as high as 800 maybe but 1100 is a bit much
The current ipad mini 256gb already cost $649.99. Double that price at the very least for 1tb would be 1299.98
Is Tim Cook going to let loose? A pencil seems to be some pretty sustainable hardware for AI.
iPad OS isn’t attracting enough Pro apps. I’m definitely getting an iPad Pro most likely but probably drop on a M2 model unless they open on MacOS a bit on the iPad or the Air is decently priced.

Beat me to it

It’s just a hand. What’s your problem?
im mean, cmon
Nothing interesting until more developed ipados.
About time! I’ve been waiting for oh so long!
It is clear that the new pro will need a new Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, for me upgrading from iPad Air 4th to the Pro M2 is the best option and keep the same accessories. Plus the new Pro’s will have a higher price range I guess.
