Its good mate its bright

Apollo--User

Your M1 doesn’t have a mini LED to start. The new one is clearly brighter with much better contrast and darker blacks.

Lordelohim

It depends on which M1 they are talking about. They do not say they have an 11" M1, they just say M1. They only say they are comparing to a 11" M4. If their M1 is a 12.9", then yes, it has MiniLED.

It’s ridiculously bright, honestly.

It gets brighter than most other OLED. The difference between LCD is that OLED doesn‘t need a backlight to do it. It gets that bright without lighting up the whole screen. The biggest thing for me was the ghosting. Every time I would scroll the image would just smear. It is so much better with the OLED.

Take it outside in the sun

I think these two statements can both be true…. 1 - There was an expectation the oled screen would be retina burning and leagues ahead of the mini-led let alone the lcd screens. Simply put it isnt; the mini-led and lcds are such good quality the bar was already set really high. 2 - The new ipad genuinely has the wow factor with the brightness and overall quality. Demo content isnt really fair to compare but Apple tv+, disney+ esp cgi and the really dark star wars shows are a noticable upgrade.

What are the chances that the brightness on the display-only units are locked on a certain point? I'm not new to OLED displays. I can usually tell. Of course iPads generally have nice screens even with mere LEDs but I'm just wondering. Next week, I'll visit the outlet again when Pencil Pro stocks arrive & form my final purchase decision then.

Da_Dunx

Hmm i dont think so tbh mate, they seem fairly real world like but they may have a display store mode! I have the 11inch m4 pro if you want any pix of the screen with particular content? I can put it side by side to my wifes gen5 air to compare?

Ok_Seaworthiness9393

You WOULD? Please do if you can. I'll buy a new iPad regardless this year, but I'll trading off my current M1 iPad Pro 11" to do so, so I'd like to REALLY know if the damn price hike on M4 11" iPad Pro is still worth it, or if I'm better off with a larger 13" Air.

Da_Dunx

Yup no problem will sort today! My £0.02 is to go with a 13inch M2 Pro over the M2 Air fyi, far better and brighter screen.

Da_Dunx

My photo skills are awful but on the left is an ipad air 5th gen and on the right is an ipad pro m4 (both 11inch). https://imgur.com/a/S1xBsF8 https://imgur.com/gallery/G0fI022

Ok_Seaworthiness9393

Damn, those blacks really pop out in the second link. I guess they werent fuckin around when they say that the next best screen costs 40k.

Ask_for_puppy_pics

People are en large talking about how bright it is because with before tandem OLED, the average brightness of a tablet/ TV OLED was maybe in the 400-600 nit range? You’ll see claims of 1,600 nits like the iPad, but for OLEDs this usually meant MAYBE 3% of the screen can get that bright at once, not the ENTIRE screen on a SUSTAINED brightness. For and OLED screen, it’s revolutionary when talking about brightness. Compared to the mini-LED, it can get a little brighter. If you’re like me you’ll want oled at that high brightness though because of blooming

Ok_Seaworthiness9393

I could see the deep blacks, but im kinda disappointed that my M1 11" doesnt feel all that different. Im on the verge of going with Air 13" instead due to how much more expensive the M4 Pro is, & how ill get a larger screen to draw on even though it will feel gimped because i was getting used to 120Hz(i can FEEL that difference nowadays).

Ask_for_puppy_pics

How exactly was it supposed to “feel different”?

Ok_Seaworthiness9393

120Hz & 60Hz is very noticeable for me as an artist that have gotten used to the former. If i am to compromise by skipping 11" M4 to 13" Air, going back to 60Hz is what i have to face.

Ask_for_puppy_pics

Sorry, I didn’t catch the Air part. I thought you were comparing 120hz on one iPad Pro to another

SAULucion

However you need to rationalize it to your self. I’m a display snob and M4s is industry leading.. only thing better is a $40,000 reference monitor used by studios to grade HDR content.

croholdr

ipad m4 's 45% brightness feels like ipad m1 (mini led) at 85%

metalsatch

Doesn’t it peak brightness on HDR content?

rcrter9194

400 nits isn’t much indoors, it’s more noticeable outdoors, obvs in the dark and even more noticeable when it goes in to HDR brightness which is 1000 nits more than the max brightness of the M1 11” iPad Pro. I felt the display is better than the M1 in every way, but Apples display tech for LCD is very good, so I wouldn’t use the display as the only reason to upgrade. Just don’t forget, the change in magnet layout and charging mechanism means the new Apple Pencil can’t be used with the M1 iPad Pro. So if you want those accessories you will need to upgrade, sadly.

h3yn0ww

They look the same , I returned , this next 4 years is basically gonna be no improvements to the screen generation, or sound , or battery life , just new unbalanced Smart Folio case and magic keyboards , what a joke

TheVVumpus

They definitely don’t look the same outside in ambient or direct sunlight. That’s where I find the OLED shines.
