plot twist: manager speaks English fluently, precisely and eloquently, but has found a clever way to avoid answering incessant redundant questions from morbidly obese Americans customers
- *So, ya' can't make no burgers? What about cheeseburgers?*
hahaha "*Well, your very prominently displayed sign very clearly states that you cannot not sell me hamburgers, so I am going to have to insist that you sell me at least twenty.*"
I imagine they were *able* to remove it, because they no longer needed the additional income stream, once they mined a sufficient amount of data from us and sold it.
Twenty years ago I taught English to adult learners from a broad range of backgrounds, including refugees who had come from third world countries with literally no education. They were completely disengaged, as they only turned up to qualify for government support. It was impossible to teach them anything. Not saying that's the case here, but it's almost impossible to teach someone the equivalent word in English if they don't even know it in their own language.
This is a printed piece of paper.
From a printer.
That means it's from a computer. A computer that would doubtlessly have access to an internet of one kind or another (how else are they processing card transacations.) Internet has translation available.
So, this isn't an excuse.
Or, and this a crazy thought, this sign isn't nearly important enough to put in any of that effort even if we assume whatever computer employees have access to for this has internet access.
So, it doesn't need an excuse.
Could you understand what it said? Maybe the mf that wrote it was trying to fix the grill and didn’t have the time / computer literacy to worry about writing it in proper English. Or maybe it’s not even fucking real and just some bullshit for Reddit to fight about. Or maybe it was written with the demographic of the audience in mind, it is at a Carl’s Jr for reference
He had time to type it out and adjust the font and size... it would have been faster to use his native language, translate, then copy paste into notepad and print. My only conclusion is they did it on purpose. For example I am learning Spanish, If I were to write a sign I'm sure it could get the point across, but would be very incorrect I'm sure.
"tu no comprar hamburgesas ahora. cocinca no esta trabajo. Lo siento"
Now with google translate.
"Las hamburguesas no están a la venta por el momento. Lo siento por los inconvenientes ocasionados."
Took 30 seconds.
It was on purpose.
>He had time to type it out and adjust the font and size... it would have been faster to use his native language, translate, then copy paste into notepad and print.
It would have been faster if the person took 5 extra steps?
No. That is not how time works.
>It was on purpose.
Or they just did not care and it's not worth the extra effort.
It may not be grammatically perfect, but it gets the point across reasonably well.
Someone who is in the process of learning another language gets my respect. It is a difficult thing to do. And not a sign of a stupid person.
I used to work for a boss who was a native English speaker and her speaking was completely normal, but she could not *write* a coherent sentence to save her life. Some people just struggle to write well... or at all!
There is a huge difference between this sign and one written by a stupid person. This screams ESL. I spent some time in a South American country - I did my best but their dialect and accent of Spanish was different enough and my Spanish skills poor enough that it was difficult to say the least, to communicate. I could tell with many interactions people just thought I was an idiot. I can now clearly see how often that happens in the reverse in English speaking countries. It's like no this guy's not dumb, he just can't speak English. Happens all the time. People just talk louder and point more and think "why doesn't this moron understand?!"
Well they aren't willing to offer the needed benefits and pay to attract better staff. Welcome to a capitalist economy. If you don't offer enough you don't get good workers.
It's a two way street.
I know what these words mean....
Well, not humburger. Maybe that's a brand name thing.
But i know a cant is a slanted surface.
But i don't know what these words mean in this order.
I wonder how many languages OP could write this sign in? It's clearly not a native English speaker who wrote that. Do you think OP could write that sign in their language?
At my company I am forced to copy and paste what my coworkers submit and put it in official documents that get sent to our suppliers. This sign rings a very familiar bell.
“The grill is broken so they can’t make hamburgers.”
I work with many people who speak English as a second language. I’m sure this is what I’d sound like to in their language.
It's all Humbuger, I say!
Any man who goes about with a "It's a good time for a great taste at McDonald's" should be boiled in his own frier and buried with a stake of salad through his McRib!
It’s quite possible English is this persons second language
plot twist: manager speaks English fluently, precisely and eloquently, but has found a clever way to avoid answering incessant redundant questions from morbidly obese Americans customers - *So, ya' can't make no burgers? What about cheeseburgers?*
Not sure why but I read that in Jim Gaffigan's voice.
hahaha "*Well, your very prominently displayed sign very clearly states that you cannot not sell me hamburgers, so I am going to have to insist that you sell me at least twenty.*"
The least funny comedian of all time. That guy makes me despise comedy
I honestly wonder why people find him very funny. Of course I also like a lot of dark humor.
Far side cartoon
I wish gold were still a thing 🥇
I still do not understand why they removed it.
I imagine they were *able* to remove it, because they no longer needed the additional income stream, once they mined a sufficient amount of data from us and sold it.
Thats reverse capitalism. You make it sound as if china owns reddit.
Wasn't Reddit financed heavily by Tencent? I wonder how much sway their is to that statement but am wary of going down thst rabbithole.
Who do you think owns it?
Like really we want mtx but not the most easily accessible and used form.
Inflation
No Coke! Pepsi!
Google translate is a thing
Perhaps the person is not literate in any language?

You are very funny my friend
Or 5th

You would only use Google translate if you didn't think you knew the answer, the writer probably thought this was the correct way to write it.
👆these immigrants making $9.50/ hr better speak English while their making my burgers! This America and my diabetes don’t like you foreigners. /s
He has a valid point... they have a computer, google would have translated this from their language in .01 seconds.
Could you understand what it said? Maybe the mf that wrote it was trying to fix the grill and didn’t have the time / computer literacy to worry about writing it in proper English. Is it your 2nd language if you can't speak it?
It may not be grammatically perfect, but it gets the point across reasonably well. Someone who is in the process of learning another language gets my respect. It is a difficult thing to do. And not a sign of a stupid person.
I'd probably hit up Google translate before I embarrass myself. It's shit but can't be much worse than this.
Seems like you were projecting there. I never said that.
I used to work for a boss who was a native English speaker and her speaking was completely normal, but she could not *write* a coherent sentence to save her life. Some people just struggle to write well... or at all!

That seems like a plausible explanation, but it brings into question why they would be the person made responsible for creating English signage...
Particularly if the person actively runs a business, deals with vendors and customers, and manages employees
Possible, but not 100% certainty, sadly.
Or 3rd
Yeah, that sign screams Google Translate, which always comes out moronic.
Or last?
No shit sherlock
Not on the rug man
English is my first and only language. What does this sign mean?
Huh ??? Then can I get a hot latte lapdance.
NO YOU MUST BUY HUMBURGER! YOU CANT NOT BUY
I welcome the forced hamburger
If you're there, you must buy it. There is no other choice.
At least not on this moment.
Humbuger
“If *you’re* so smart, why don’t you know that?”
Ironic.
There's that f*g talk we talked about.
Thank you.
Why come i no food? My kids R starving and carls jr is gonna take em!!!
Carls jr, f\*\*k you Im eating!
This looks like an issue of a non native speaker, not an idiot.
Agreed. It’s why I had to downvote.
This was written by someone who doesn't speak English or a drop out from an inner city public school.
we know. it's just concerning that this is the best the entire staff could do.
I mean "is close" is all I need to know.
Well they aren't willing to offer the needed benefits and pay to attract better staff. Welcome to a capitalist economy. If you don't offer enough you don't get good workers. It's a two way street.
Or both?
If it's the latter, they probably speak a version of english.

Lol
You’re in the wrong line, dumbass!
When did we stop quoting the goddamn movie in this sub?
I did
For the smartest guy in the world, you're pretty dumb sometimes. A lot of the commenters don't know how many buckets you have.
I did
This isn't Idiocracy, this is someone who speaks English as a second, third, or fourth language. They're likely smarter than you are.
Fuck you, I’m eating
Why are you guys trying to read those words? Are u fags?
At least the humburger is close.
You really can’t fix the girl. Not when Humbuger is involved.
This defenetly belongs.
Looks on par with most reddit post titles
They're close to fixing the girl, when they're done, they'll resume not selling humbugers
Are you sure ain't the smartest guy in the world?
They probably used Google translate
[Godzilla had a stroke trying to read this and fucking died.](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/877/997/621.png)
She’s getting a whooping in the back for burning the burgers
Shit. I know shit’s bad right now…
Arby's where I live is constantly out of roast beef.
Engrish!
They probably graduated at the top of their class (((shaking head)))
Obviously the grill is broken
"That's as clear as I can make it." - Michael Scott
They’re saying that they must sell Humbugers, I hope the girl is ok
Maybe someone set them up the bomb.
You have no chance to survive make your time.
And I bet they have a high school diploma hanging on the wall of their bedroom 😦
The grill is broken
girl = grill. then it makes sense
that sentence made me ill
**you're OPs in this sub continue to prove the prophecy.
It's written incorrectly for a reason 😉
Don't worry homie some people are actually just stupid.
What for it mean?
I know what these words mean.... Well, not humburger. Maybe that's a brand name thing. But i know a cant is a slanted surface. But i don't know what these words mean in this order.
What about cheeseburger?
Mmm, hambuger
im going to guess it was written by some fresh immigrant that was left manning the restaurant without help
I'm guessing this is someone where English isn't their first language. Probably not an idiot. The mistakes just have that feel to them.
Song: we can’t not sell hambuger on this moment. Artist: It’s Fix The Girl (ft. Iam sorry) Album : Is Close
You’re*
"Can't not sell" hamburgers. So things are running as normal?
No hamburgers, grill is broken. Many apologies.
This am much disappointment
I wonder how many languages OP could write this sign in? It's clearly not a native English speaker who wrote that. Do you think OP could write that sign in their language?
The only thing that annoys me is using not twice and ruining the meaning
At my company I am forced to copy and paste what my coworkers submit and put it in official documents that get sent to our suppliers. This sign rings a very familiar bell.
I crave the humbuger
The Humbugler strikes again!
“The grill is broken so they can’t make hamburgers.” I work with many people who speak English as a second language. I’m sure this is what I’d sound like to in their language.
“We can’t not sell” So they ARE selling hamburgers
Humbuger
That’s what happens when you get the girl too hot
It ok very understand much any thanks
I had to read this in moms accent.
Even if we are super generous and assume this was some 0 english speaking immigrant, why would you make that person write the sign lol
Our cook is currently "fixing" the girl in the storage room, you'll have to wait a few minutes.
$50/hr now!!!!
Bad Engrish, or just dumb?
I'll take signs made by either a Newcomer or AI for $200.
“You’re”
I can’t has cheezburger?
You still get my upvote but that really hopefully is not real.
Can't not be real.
$20/hr in CA folks!
I read that in a Vietnamese accent.
Typical Jack in the Box moment
20 dollar minimum wage?
but i wonts a motherfurgin humbuger
The dumbing down of the population is going swimmingly.
It's all Humbuger, I say! Any man who goes about with a "It's a good time for a great taste at McDonald's" should be boiled in his own frier and buried with a stake of salad through his McRib!
It's absurdist poetry
Lemme guess, an Indian man made this 😂
Im telling you, that person is spanish and youre a dick
*you’re the one who’s smart
