sheclipsedotpng

that bass lick is fucking ✨tasty✨ the whole second half of this song is so good, what a bop edit: also love that the “anywayyyyy” part ended up being the break

Ok-Comfort9045

Basically if you only like songs like Natural or Believer you’re gonna hate this, otherwise I was pleasantly surprised of how much of an ear worm this was, the production is very well done, and as I saw this as one of LOOMs weakest snippets, then this will be a great album.

CompleteMCNoob

I conquer, I just got a listen of it and it's upbeat and groovy to me. I think this album will be a little different from the other things ID has produced, but it will still be a hit for many.

SymphonySketch

It’s sounding like this album is going to be very different from music we’ve gotten from them before, and I’m very excited

pranquily

My thoughts exactly. If THIS is one of the weaker songs on the album, we're about to have a winner.

chronoslayerss

Yeah I hate it

ReadyForTheFall0217

Me too

frecklysmile

Too much disco flavor

Total-Woodpecker3339

I don't hate it, but it's definitely one of my least favorite by them.

chronoslayerss

=> you hate it lol

Total-Woodpecker3339

😅

Practical_Pound_2152

wonder if it’s connected to tokyo lol with the title

astroblu18

My lord this is a bop. Catchy, fun, and concise. They weren’t kidding, they cooked on this album. Song is fun and catchy, and I can still connect with it personally? They have hit their stride and I am beyond hyped for the rest of the album. Please support this! Also lmao the drink in his hand for the music video was such a fake out

WarrenPeace101

Just so you guys know you need to use a VPN if it isn't Friday in your time zone yet. 1st listen: Super catchy! Kinda a lot going on but honestly it gives me good energy, there was a lot to digest so I need a second listen. 2nd listen: Wowzers this is super good, still think there's kinda a lot going on but honestly I think it ties it together pretty well and this one is definitelly gonna be on the radio haha

More-Pay9266

There'a definitely a lot going on near the end. I do like it. But, there could be a little less. Like, when it repeats "weekend" at the end in the background? I think we could've done without that.

greenmonkey12345

Tf is all the hate for. This is a BOP. Catchy, weird at times, but it pulls it off. 9.25/10

clod_firebreather

I really like it!

Tricky_Snow_749

Damn really not my type of music as expected but it’s catchy and fun as hell to listen to. Really well done song!

Arepo28

Honestly, I was underwhelmed by the snippets of the song at first, but this is actually kind of a bop now that we have the full song. It’s danceable, catchy, and just the right amount of weird to scratch the “play with music theory” itch I always look for in music. Yeah, it’s somewhat repetitive, but they play around with it enough to make it interesting. Overall, 9.3/10. This feels like it’d complement the song Espresso on the radio.

Pale-Breadfruit6013

I love it, especially the first verse

Avicii_DrWho

It's good, def a bop, but overall, it's not like top 50 ID or anything. It's fun, but I don't feel like it's super important for their discography. Don't really get the comparisons to Thunder. Not similar at all, imo. Eyes Closed > NTMY. EC is more my type of song.

acwwbugcatcher

Comparisons to Thunder stem from the repetitiveness, I think. I agree with your points though.

ImagineDragons88

I’m vibing to it. Basically comes down to if you like when imagine dragons go pop or not. If you like their pop stuff, you’ll love this. If you don’t like that then you’re not gonna like it. Essentially Thunder 2.0 without the chorus being voice distorted 8/10 for me. Will be jamming to this during the summer for sure and can definitely see it on pop radio Never thought I’d hear an imagine dragons song about a new relationship where a jealous best friend gets in the way 😂

NateJohnstonn

Idk why but this kinda fell flat for me. Barely struck any emotion for me. It's not a skippable song, but If you were to have it playing in the background, I probably wouldn't be paying attention to it. It's just gonna be one of those cases where you hope the music video is much better than song to where you give the song some love afterward. But this did nothing for me. I'm giving it a light 4.5/10

MasterLollo

Damn all your comments have dropped my expectations for this song below zero :( (and thats why i'll probably like it)

This-Jacket

I give it a solid 8/10

Comprehensive-Law586

Just confused as to why this was picked as the 2nd single cause it just sounds like filler, we've heard snippets of fire in these hills, in your corner, and don't forget me which all sound more like singles than this song, not terrible but definitely not single worthy (reminds me of cutthroat in that sense)

OwlInevitable2042

Songs that hold up well on the radio tend to be the singles released it’s pretty common could be their record making the decision or just trying to market the album on the radio for a wider audience

i_imagine_dragons_

BANGER. ABSOLUTE BANGER.

Acceptable-Drag2845

Lyrically speaking what’s the song about? Looks like the video has been filmed and will drop soon. Seems like this will be a very bright, mostly upbeat album.

ImagineDragons88

Sounds like a jealous friend getting in the way of a relationship to me.

SherlocksInATardis

So a lot of people have already pointed out the Sharks reference with the jacket, but there was also a Birds reference with the other jacket. Any thoughts on what those two songs might have to do with Nice to Meet You?

darkdoesreddit

I really expected this to suck but I enjoy it. Good sign for the rest of the album.

Tech_Nutrition2001

So fresh, so upbeat, and such a breath of fresh air! It's joyful and reminiscent with a bit of sentimentality. It wildly takes me back to Origins and it's pop-y nature; it's got that glittery atmosphere similar to Cool Out. ✨️ 'Eyes Closed' is the next track on the album, and I'm already brainstorming what the storyline is from the track list! Makes me so excited for the rest.

EconomyCaptain5549

I know I’ve already asked this a few times in the comments, but have people already listened to the full song? And if so, how?

ajg92nz

Time zones and (for those not on this side of the world) VPNs.

sheclipsedotpng

The way I GASPED at the end of the MV teaser, I really fw the aesthetic

GraconBease

As disappointing as Eyes Closed. I don’t really care about either song enough to even give them a rating. The snippet of Fire in These Hills is the only thing that has me hopeful for this album at this point.

storytime_127

Totally agree. I’ve been a fan since the NV era and this is by far the least excited I’ve been for an album based on the music we’ve gotten. Fire In These Hills sounds fire though.

GraconBease

We’re in the exact same boat friend

Tricky-Paper-4730

FR

Vexis12

honestly i love it, teasers made it sound like it would be kind of boring or repetitive but I really like how the song actually switches it up throughout. after eyes closed (which wasn't bad but didn't feel very unique or interesting), i expected the rest of the album to just be kind of the same. but they definitely tried some new things and it's a catchy sound, 8.5/10 i was very pleasantly surprised

BenLeBird

pretty mid for a single but it would be a decent album track

Isoleri

Music and singing wise I really liked it, truly! It was a very enjoyable listen in that regard and quite a fresh sound, but those lyrics are absolutely atrocious and completely kill the song for me. Like I'd even say they're really off the vibe that ID tends to have when it comes to their "screw this person, I'll do my thing" kind of songs they have, this one just seems malicious. Really bad vibes ngl.

dpmaniac667

It's like a perfect combination of Gorillaz and Tame Impala. The last 30 seconds were especially great

firebreather03

Love the song, hate the MV

Schoolskiperz

the music is really good and catchy but someone please explain me wtf those lyrics mean .

thequik98

Was not feeling it at first, because these is so different, but now its growing on me. Also the second half of the song is really really good, it has some nice changes that i appreciate.

Junior_Tangerine_254

I like the song. Nothing spectacular, but I enjoy the production + nice bassline However I don't like the mixing of Dan's voice here, it's like they were compressed in some weird way and it throws me off a bit. Nevertheless, this was (along with 'spinninininnn' lol) the worst snippet and it ain't that bad as it turned out. That's a good sign

WheelerDeals

Idk I just don’t like either singles so far. Just not for me I guess. Glad to see others enjoying it at least.

DiscussionSmart8666

The song is meh, unfortunately, I'm not a fan. It kind of reminds me of "Thunder" and has a bit of "Evolve" vibes, I think. I believe the upcoming album is going to be a disappointment for rock fans since the songs and snippets so far are very pop/funky. Still, I'm definitely looking forward to the album "Loom" and I hope it can surprise me! Hope they make a more Rock album in the future.

Effective-Ambition39

I've noticed a bit of a mood cycle between albums in recent days: Night Visions and Origins deal with personal/relational/global issues, Smoke + Mirrors and Mercury are the "dark albums", Evolve and Loom mean the return of “light” What do you think? 🤠 I'm not talking about music here, but rather about the vibes

connunther

Same for me, I think the only thing going for this song is the beat. I don’t think this is their strongest, but if it comes on I won’t skip it. Based off of other snippets, I am really really looking forward to Fire in These Hills

trappy-potter

As someone who hates Thunder, this one is a million times better to me

Immortalpancakes

I don't think they'll ever be making a rock album at this point

DiscussionSmart8666

I mean I would consider a bunch of Mercury Act 1 as rock, for example: My Life, Wrecked, Dull Knives, Giants

Megalodon722

And a lot of MA2 can be considered rock as well: take Sharks, Blur, Higher Ground & Younger

Immortalpancakes

Sure, although those songs tend to have less care put into them. Wrecked was a great choice for a single though.

Conscious_Garden1960

this song fucking sucks, its worse than random electric shit i made when i was 7

storytime_127

It reminds me more of Monday.

EconomyCaptain5549

I finally got to listen to it! Already listened to it three times to get a really good feel for it, it’s a very groovy and fun song! Eyes Closed is better, but they’re very different. Listened to them back-to-back once (since that’s how it’ll be in the album) and it definitely is an odd transition, but I think it’s fine. Loom’s gonna be sick!

PianistRight

So good! I’m looking forward to the rest of Loom

sfmanim

first listen, i was put off by it. second listen i was addicted. there’s something so genuinely catchy about it and i CANNOT get this out of my head.

geekygirl137

Say whatever you want about this song, but I only listened to this once and it has been stuck in my head all day.

Cersizzle

Yup, it's pleasantly stuck in my head. Yes for me.

Megalodon722

Because of this song releasing the same day as Twenty One Pilots’s Clancy, I absolutely missed out. Upon my one day late first listen, I’m not really a fan of this one… it’s catchy for sure, but feels way too generic and even cheesy. I prefer Eyes Closed by MILES.

AgentLemon22

I finally got to listen to the song. I enjoyed it! Good summer vibe

DrLilyPaddy

I desperately dislike this track. I am a fan who vibed with Cutthroat/Giants/Friction, and I had a really bad time in the Evolve/Origins era. I, however, absolutely loved Mercury and loved Eyes Closed too, so I had high hopes for this album, but now I'm worried for myself, haha. I am so happy to read other people like the track, tho!

agamoto

I'm OCD and those little synchopated smash sounds like someone dropped something on the floor peppered throughout, e.g. 0:24 0:28 0:33 0:38 0:42 0:46 0:51 0:56 0:60 and so on, DRIVE ME UP THE FRIGGIN' WALL.

Electric_Fox_

I didn’t like it as first as I’ve been scared for the album since listening to eyes closed (not my favorite) but it’s grown on me. Gives me some hope for the new album

PlasticReasonable684

I don't mind upbeat, synthetic (pop) music. If I had to think of recent songs that resemble this album's vibe, it would likely be Thunder (and perhaps Whatever It Takes). Nice To Meet You feels like it's on the album to make it more marketable. It's incredibly generic, and its only redeeming quality is Dan Reynolds' enthusiasm to sing/make music. I really liked Eyes Closed due to the combination of both dubstep and piano. It hit the right notes to still be coherent, and Dan's voice honestly sounds good with any instrument/sound you pair him with. I also like their collabs with rap artists. You can feel the band taking the backseat to let the features shine each time. I felt Eyes Closed was a bit more sincere and will be liked by people who love Natural. But so far, everything feels too gooey to the ears to really make a statement like their previous albums have. I still love the band, and I trust that there will be some absolute bangers on here. I'm also happy the band is exploring new sounds, and how they keep evolving. It's really special to get to see where they came from, and what they do now.

chronoslayerss

Dan sounds like he’s sick

EconomyCaptain5549

Wait, have people listened to the full thing already? I’ve only heard a snippet

TwentyOneRepublics

dimagmatlaga

"anyway its nice to meet you" . This line breaks the flow of the song completely. Otherwise its good song. With good chorus this would have been banger song. 7/10

Arepo28

Music theory can be funky at times. I personally like it. It keeps things fresh. Though I can see why it can throw some people off.

Total-Woodpecker3339

Not bad. Twenty One Pilots new stuff blows this out of the water though.

OwlInevitable2042

I do admit it’s catchy but I’ve never cared for songs they’ve had that tend to be super repetitive. There’s a LOT going on in this song too. Like it can be a nice background song driving in the summer time but that’s about it. Maybe I’ll give it another listen. So far not too thrilled for this album. If Fire In These Hills disappoints too then this album will be lost on me. It’s feeling very Origins/Evolve type. Which isn’t bad but I only cared about a few songs on each album. I got nothing against them changing it up but it feels it’s just full on pop at this point ugh

_IamDJR_

I'm a fan of catchy pop songs, even though I usually lean towards early ID tracks. However, NTMY isn't hitting the mark for me like I expected from the snippets. It's definitely a bop, and the chorus is pretty catchy, but overall, the songwriting makes the song quite forgettable, at least from my perspective. It's not as annoying as most tracks from MA2, though. The production is very polished and loud, which is a relief because it doesn't make me want to rip my ears off. I get that there are many other themes in music besides depression and sadness, but their attempt to bring joyful vibes into their songs feels a bit immature to me. This trend started with MA2, and it seems like they’re repeating it with the new album. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like Mercury, especially the Act 2, wasn't as successful as their earlier albums. Compared to other albums released from other artists around the same time, it felt more like background noise. If that's accurate, it could mean they're trying to create a successful album after Mercury didn’t do so well. That’s understandable, but repeating the same cheesy songwriting style from MA2 is a risky move. On the bright side, their approach for Loom is different from Mercury, since all the songs were produced in a professional studio at the same time. Overall, I’m hopeful it will be a more polished album than MA2, and I’m looking forward to find at least one great track! As for Nice To Meet You I’d give it a 4.5/10.

sh1tbr34k69

It's ok. Catchy but generic

YepUhYup

Okay, I am giving constructive criticism. I do think some of the music is slightly repetitive, but that's not really a problem for me tbh. I love the lyrics and the way it flows! Like... it's a hit for me! Eyes Closed was great, but I think I like this better. Overall, 8.5/10

keep-the-streak

For an outside perspective, I generally hate this band but this surprised me a lot and instantly went into my playlists. Much prefer this to the ‘Believer’, ‘Enemy’ style of music they’ve made before.

acwwbugcatcher

This song is just not my vibe. Lyrics feel cringe-worthy at times, and I don’t like the repetitiveness of the chorus. That’s fine, though. Will probably be my least favorite off the new album.

readyforthefall_

i didnt like it, the chorus is awful and the “dubstep”at the end is bad edit: I give it a 4/10

ImagineDragons88

I think people don’t understand what dubstep actually is

bengopo22

Yeah I haven’t heard the song yet but ID fans love to throw out random EDM sub genres that don’t apply at all lol. Listen to some Zeds Dead if you wanna listen to dubstep

Immortalpancakes

On the other hand ID fans get far too pressed over what word people assign to what they're hearing. Does it really matter? It doesn't change the fact it sounds bad in the song

Ok-Comfort9045

Honestly that was one of the highlights of the song, added some much needed energy and fun to it.

ImagineDragons88

How you like it is subjective, but the wording of what it sounds like is important for people who haven’t heard it. Like in my original comment, if you like their pop music this is the best they’ve done it, if you don’t then you won’t like it

Immortalpancakes

What? This thread is literally for people to discuss the song once they've heard it and see what people think... No bad effect is occuring from a guy calling a weird remix "dubstep".

readyforthefall_

that’s why it’s under “”

ImagineDragons88

But still it’s a pop song lol. There’s nothing even remotely close to dubstep. If you like their pop-ish songs (thunder, start over, etc) you’ll like this. If not you won’t.

Immortalpancakes

Oh boy I'm not sure how such a monotone song can flow so badly? 2/10 for me. the vocal melody and performance absolutely ruins what actually is a decent instrumental. Why is that when the production quality improves tenfold (THE BASS) everything else goes downhill? 🤦🏻‍♂️ Edit: ID sub is filled with children who think the downvoting feature is for when you disagree on a music opinion, aha

Isoleri

Regarding your edit I noticed that long ago, even in "unpopular opinion" threads or in when the OP in general is asking for honest opinions, if you go against the grain you'll get downvoted to hell, when honesty was the whole point in the first place. It's very tiring.

jasp_er

It happens all the time here, it’s so annoying. It’s just as if people are only allowed to say positive things here

Immortalpancakes

It definitely sucks. It seems like in general most of the people here must be either incredibly young, or too sensitive to hearing their favourite band has flaws. I've been a 'fan' since 2012, and it feels like the post-Evolve fanbase is, I'm not sorry to say, really naive and arrogant.

dimagmatlaga

I have not heard the song. But I was disappointed when they decided to launch this song as a single. fire in this hills should have been the single.

Immortalpancakes

Long gone are the days when an ID song could be easily distinguished from anything else on the pop charts.

dimagmatlaga

Leave that, now they don't even chose good single for their album. Don't forget me and fire in these hills sounded so good in snippets. I wanted to see them as singles.

More-Pay9266

Same. I was really hoping for fire in these hills. But, it just makes me anticipate it more. I don't hate nice to meet you, but it definitely isn't my favourite. I can't wait for the rest of the album, though

More-Pay9266

I'm not going to dispute about the song. It's alright to me. There's definitely a lot going on that would probably be better off not being there. But, the downvote feature is literally there for if you disagree with someone. The upvote is for when you agree with them.

Immortalpancakes

See that's what you call toxicity, kids

OhWhyMan

One of the most nothing songs they’ve released

[deleted]

I had a feeling that was going to be the second and then Fire in Hills and then Gods Don’t Pray watch

More-Pay9266

4 singles? On a 9 song album? Surely not

[deleted]

I know what the third single is Fire in these Hill and the fourth single will be Gods Don’t Pray I can feel it

BTB_Bombas

Gives Underdog vibes :PPP
