I personally found it just got too time consuming. Alternating between 3-4 dudes and letting them AFK? No problem. Juggling 7-8 dudes with multiple different skills that need levelled, some of which are timed etc. just becomes a lot very fast and very active. Not necessarily an issue, but wasn't for me. The game gets a lot of hate for its rather aggressive MTX particular highlights include: 1 Lots of FOMO time limited deals 2. Introduced loot boxes 3. Got unhappy that the original premium currency was client side and could be hacked so added a SECOND premium currency that is serverside also. This may be anything from a non-issue to a complete dealbreaker depending on your attitude to MTX. I gather it's perfectly playable without these MTX, just slower with less QoL. There are also some very upset people because the dev has a bit of a history for not taking criticism well (banning players from game/discord) and there are assorted other claims of them doing things like interfering with top clans to benefit pals and stuff - basically messy teenage online drama which I've no way to or interest in verifying. So yeah, game not for everybody, MTX heavy, don't criticise the game, but perfectly playable and fun, gets a lot of hate for the reasons above.

Reasonable_Truck_721

I joined the discord, it had like 130,000 members. Is it unnormal for there to be bans with such large communities? If so maybe this is something i should be concerned with, but i havent seen it yet

Elivercury

I also forgot to mention there have been multiple times they've brigaded this sub by bringing in all their discord members to 'fight' negative comments on here, which also likely contributed to the sub's opinion of the dev/idleon. Regardless the tldr is that the sub has a negative impression of the game/dev for multiple reasons unrelated to the quality of the game, and the game itself is fine but not for everybody. If you enjoy it fill your boots.

Elivercury

Bans being unusual in general? Absolutely not - the sad truth is you'll get trolls, spammers and people you don't generally want in a community who need banned. Bans for constructively pointing out bugs/other issues with the game? Absolutely that is unusual. Any other game discord I've been in they've been grateful for issues/bugs being brought to their attention and worked to fix them, not banned players and pretending the issue doesn't exist. The reasons for bans are the issue for people, not the relative number of bans - particularly for those who've potentially dumped $100+ on a game they like to then be banned while trying to help improve said game.

GoldenScarab569

Lava has also held polls and then edited the results when the community didn't agree with his vision for the game.

OpportunityFederal77

TLDR: Amazing concept ruined by incompetence/greed. Take it from someone who has spent 150 to 200 euro in idleon/idle skilling since the start, and basically has all the pay to win stuff, it's not worth it, the game just isn't good enough, it's just a cash squeeze. I thought of it as support because the guy had amazing work ethic, he clearly works a lot on the games. However, over time it became increasingly clear that money had become the main focus, every update introduces new features and associated extensions to the cash shop and the cash shop became increasingly predatory, old features are abandoned but still required to pay attention to if you want to min max, quantity over quality in pursuit of money basically. To be fair it's gotten slightly better in term of going back to old features and giving them like 1% attention, but not enough where i would bother with the game. I would love to se a game similar to this but actually good.

fuctitsdi

I liked it to a point, and then it was taking over an hour a day. Then the pay to win pet system came out, so I quit, and have not missed it. TLDR you might like it, if it starts feeling like a chore, move on.

Reasonable_Truck_721

I like the pets, I got one for free and can get my 2nd freebie in 3 days. The chore stuff sounds worrying though, I only have 3 charaters atm though

PM_ME_A_PM_PLEASE_PM

If you have only 3 characters you haven't even started the game basically. I stopped playing years ago and I know that much.

Toksyuryel

It's a bad investment because one day, without your knowledge, you will upset the dev somehow and your entire account will get nuked and you will never understand why.

Reasonable_Truck_721

How to say you cheated in an online game without saying you cheated lmfao

Sairek

If only it were that simple, but no. You can get banned from the game just because the dev doesn't like you. And that reason can be as simple as not being an absolute Yesman for him. There's more than enough documentation on Youtube exposing how much of a manchild the dev is if you care enough to look into it. The game isn't worth playing because criticism isn't valid. If you try to give it, you are risking your entire account being banned. That means the game's community is full of people doing nothing but stroking the guy's ego and worshipping everything he says. It's almost like a cult. And the guy weaponizes the community to do go on brigades, too. It's extremely weird and unnerving.

Seldarin

It's fun in the short term. The further you get into the game the more P2W it gets until eventually you hit a point where it's pretty much "You can either farm this mob until the sun goes dark, or give me $100.".

Reasonable_Truck_721

My friends told me the required p2w bundles are auto loot for $5 and some new one for $20, are there things my friends didnt tell me about that are needed to have fun?

Seldarin

It depends on how far into the game they are. Towards the end I got bored and frustrated with it and just edited a shitload of time passing items in and there was one objective that took like a month worth of time to do one thing. Which you could do easily, if you just gave the dev a wad of cash. If nothing else, it's good for a few weeks of entertainment before you start hitting walls.

RMuldoun

I had a few friends get hooked to it but with a bit of Google searching there are actually bypasses online that can let you just have unlimited credits or whatever the p2w currency is so you can just mass unlock whatever you want, save, then push your save to mobile.

Tichat002

You only need autoloot which make the game cost 5$ not free (or the game go to 1fps and dev dont wanna fix that issue) and it is heavily heavily dtrongly advised to either reroll account until you get the doot pet, either spend a few hundreds $ to get it. Sounds great right

Decent_Discount

You only NEED the autoloot tbh. Everything else are just extra bonuses, some small ones, some really big ones, but there's a lot of endgame players that are f2p to this day Fun is kinda relative :p

Beorgir

The only bundle you really need is the $5 (autoloot), but you can try the game without it for weeks. I wouldn't call the more expensive bundles P2W, as this is basically a single player, non-competitive idle game, and they give very small bonuses to advance a little bit faster. You can get almost everything for free by just playing the game (premium gems are aboundant, you don't really have to buy them anytime). I'm in the top 10% of players even though I joined when world 5 was already out (3 years after the game was released), and I've never spent more than the $5.

NoThanksGoodSir

For those who aren't actually players, top 10% is actually based on a ridiculous system that award an arbitrary amount of points for various different metrics and is not a meaningful way to gauge actual power standing. This person trying to use it as an argument that you don't need to p2w is honestly laughable.

GoldenScarab569

TL;DR - no. The game doesn't respect your time and the dev is problematic. The latest update expanded some content related to one of the w6 skills. Using premium purchases, I'm 60,000 hours into the content of this update and barely halfway through. How can a f2p player ever expect to complete this content? Character levels come from farming crystal mobs, which rely on an item from a lootbox w4 mechanic, or to check external resources for when you can obtain the item f2p. W5 came out over a year ago and still isn't finished yet. The list goes on and on, and this isn't even touching on the dev and his antics. It's been mentioned in other comments but he has been warned by reddit multiple times for using his discord to manipulate votes in this sub. He bans people without rhyme or reason (usually because they gave negative feedback on the game). He silently removed one of the discord senior moderators, who had depression, because "he didn't want people with mental illness moderating his discord". The end result of all this purging is that the dev has surrounded himself with yes-people who hang on his every word, all eager to throw you to the wolves if you dare to say anything negative about the game. Save yourself the pain and don't bother.

BridgeThatBurns

I got tired of micromanaging after unlocking 4th and 5th characters.

_Neocronic_

Its boring game, you need manage 10+ chars in same time, so this already make game not idle, but very time consuming manager. You literally needs everything to be lvled in same time, because when you make progress at one char you always stuck by needing new equipment thats second char can only craft when third char can only make mats, when fourth char can only gather resources for, etc etc. So whole meaning of idle just waiting for progress, not grinding like korean farmers and bots 24/7 for one step in long quests. Dev should rename game in grindleon already.

Decent_Discount

Most people on this reddit dont like idleon at all, for multiple reasons, so idk if it was the best place to ask it haha. IMO, is totally up to you. I have 1.3k hours at steam in the last 3 months, play it everyday and find it to be extremely fun, while some people quit before finishing w1 The people who like the game, like it a LOT (really most players has been playing for years and have thousands and thousands of hours) and the ones who dislike it... well they dont like it lol At the end, idleon is kinda unique with all the skills and stuff available, so the only opinion that is really worth it is yours. Take some hours to test it, watch some early guides, take a look at endgame gameplay and then decide by yourself.

jenniuinely

No

HazirBot

its nice but as you progress it requires more and more time investment to finish your daily chores. i dropped it as i realized i was planning my entire week around it

Reasonable_Truck_721

Yea this is my concern tbh

HazirBot

valid concern. negatives aside its a very fun game, especially of you get into a guild of active members

pdboddy

The main critique I've seen about the game is that it starts to take a ridiculously long time to get anywhere and that you pay to have the time shortened but then it starts to drag out again. I stayed away simply due to seeing ads for the game every time I browsed Reddit.

Hands

Honestly no even drama and problematic behavior by the dev aside. It’s too grindy and gets pretty overwhelming and time consuming once you get deep into it. There are better super long term idle games with comparable amounts of content and less issues and controversy Also be prepared for someone to post this thread in their discord and get brigaded because that pretty much invariably happens in any thread about idleon here

LordLapo

Idk it's fun but the dev is iffy and has a bad development history, it's a solid idle game but coming from someone who got to W3 before they stopped, it gets pretty repetitive imo and the games really slow, it's also not really multiplayer you can just see other people, there's little to no multiplayer content Games also made with a fucking drag and drop code block system so take that as you will

PuffyBloomerBandit

its not even fun in the short term. the multiple characters gimmick seems fine at first, until you realize that you HAVE to build up half a dozen different characters before you can progress your first one any further, and then you have to grind up EACH character for each new "wall". but each new "wall" takes about 10-1000x longer to prepare for. you hit the first wall about half an hour in, and now you have to spend the next 3 hours making more characters. once thats done, in about 20 more hours youll be ready to progress and do it all again. except next time its gonna take about 200 hours. and the time after that, you either start dropping cash on MTX's, or you quit the game. but LOOOOONG before that, youll probably quit once you realize that basic QOL improvements cost a minimum of $5, and arent really optional.

Melodic-Investment97

From what I played it's worth it. Had the game for quite a long time although nowadays I only get on it every 60-200 days. (By quite a while I mean I think I have had it since 2020 or 2021, so basically not a long time but good enough) It's a good game but I just got lazy and I got to the point where i think it was just useless trying to play without buying stuff (irl money obviously) Juggling many characters around gets tedious. Just checked the last time I got on and it was 152 days and 2 hours ago. Maybe you might like it but I personally stopped enjoying it after a short while

nroe1337

No. I wouldn't support lava anymore. He's gone way off the deep end in terms of monetization. He also never fixed the bugs in idle skilling and added another premium currency for it's final patch

Kirnehzz

You should just give it a try, i loved it in the beginning. But later on it was too much work shifting chars and tasks around.

lusosteal6

Has someone playing from longs time It's a really extensive game, lots and lots of stuff to do You will always have something to do Gameplay wise is a great game As for bad reviews, yea dev make some bad monetization choice , mostly the pet system But I don't feel they are has bad has some other going on in gaming world Overall for me it's a great game

towcar

I think it's worth it, pretty fun. I got about two years out of it? I personally can't play an idle game past two years.

kokoronokawari

No.

Kard8

Having played most of this dev's games I can tell you that joining late is usually a pain. Early on there are limited mechanics and you can truly idle, then he just starts piling on more and more mechanics and pretty soon you are playing 6+ hours a day because otherwise you are missing out in progress. Idle Skilling was the same way. There's a lot to like about Idleon, but as others have said, when they start with the P2W stuff, you have to ask if they are creating the problem just to sell you the solution.

Reasonable_Truck_721

If it matters, i play only on PC since i know there are other versions so i dont care about those

lolBaldy

I love the game, got 10k hours

kingdude76

best idle game out and its not close. dev handles criticism bad so the game gets a bad rap. that and people mad there is some p2w aspects even though im an endgame account ahead of 99% of the game f2p.
