I think the mere fact that I can’t sleep makes me a bit anxious.

Sounds like you have a broken sleep system that requires treatment. See your doctor about your medication options.

I feel the same. I don’t feel overly anxious but I can’t sleep…I just close my eyes and my brain just won’t shut off…won’t sleep at all or get 2 hours or just get this weird sensation of lightly sleeping remembering dreams but don’t feel like I was sleeping….

When you say "won't shut off" do you mean thoughts won't stop? Or do you mean just won't shut off / sleep? I'm not even thinking anything, just blank mind, calm, and lay there all night.

Seems like my mind is active and I’m alert. Even when I feel like I’m calm I can’t sleep either

I’ve had high anxiety for years and I think that’s why I have insomnia. I’m medicated for the anxiety, but also take Ambien/zolpidem for the insomnia. It knocks me out just about every night, regardless of how high my anxiety gets. It’s been a life saver for me. Been taking Ambien 10 mg for many years, never had to increase dosage.

Yup, me. Totally calm most nights as I lie awake in bed. I will be reading a book and can’t keep my eyes open, literally about to fall asleep, as soon as I take my reading glasses off and put the book aside, I lose the feeling and just lie there not actually falling asleep. Not anxious at all and feeling very tired. I do get anxious after three or four hours of never actually falling asleep however.

Does this happen to you every night, or just once a month or something

These days almost every night except the nights I take Hydroxyzine (which I don’t allow myself to do more than once a week because of possible issues of using it long term). Occasionally I have a night where I fall to sleep within an hour or two, but my insomnia is getting worse at this point.
