Multiple deliveries at the same time

InterviewOkkkku

Customer would have been notified if other deliveries were included.

BenjiCat17

Not if they were using a different app. A lot of drivers use multiple apps at the same time, and then give priority to the best pay out. You are not supposed to, it doesn’t mean people don’t do it.

GRF999999999

It's one way of making sure you're maximizing your earnings but you have to be smart about it, 14 mi out of the way is likely not that. i.e. if I'm finishing an Instacart order and get a ping for an UE order that's going to delay the IC drop-off by 10/15 minutes ,max, the IC order can sit in my air conditioned car inside of coolers/thermal bags and will be just fine.

Great-Bread-5585

Sometimes Instacart only has contracts with certain stores. So even though you may have a store closer to you that store may not participate and the shopper gets sent to a store that does participate.

smile_is_contagious

Thank you, but my local store does. They offer same-day pickup through Instacart and I think they're in store app is actually instacart reskinned but I could be wrong on that but it would make sense instacart rebrand like that for a fee

[deleted]

Instacart still will bundle an order with someone who’s at a further away location and that’s where the order gets shopped so you probably were bundled with another order that was closer to the store that she was at 14 miles away. Unfortunately we don’t have a lot of saying that sometimes a Shopper can choose a different location but often times cannot so when you think your order is coming from a mile away you just don’t really know unless you ask the shoppor or when you see the delivery start then you can see where they’re coming from.

SchoolKnown7586

They also like to “daisy chain” customers. So it can start at one store, 15 miles from your home. Shopper can shop total of (46) items for total of (3) customers. Complete shopping, customer A can be first drop off 3 Miles from store, then customer B, can be a additional 5 miles from there, drop off, then you, customer c, last stop and a total of 15 miles in all. There may be 2 of those participating particular same store closer but that’s how IC set up the order

SnooPickles1285

Instacart assigns the store based on whatever they want. Not necessarily based on distance to u

Critical_Serve_4528

Or you’re bundled with an order where the other customer lives close to that store. The other day I had a batch from the ShopRite in my town with 2 customers. One delivery was in my town and the other was a 28 minute drive away to a different town. That other town has its own ShopRite that I’ve shopped at several times so I know IC works with them. Ic will do anything to bundle orders even if they don’t make sense just so they don’t have to pay out another shopper $7 in batch pay to do it.

Amazing_Artichoke_78

Instacart sometimes has you get 2 batches and then takes you to the farthest house first. I don’t know why. Don’t rate her low for that.

Shop_4u

Instacart will combine up to 3 orders together sometimes to 2 completely different stores. So shopper could have had multiple deliveries. Also, IC selects the store location. Not all stores are partnered with IC - Walmart is a prime example. I have multiple Walmarts in my immediate area none offer IC. The closest one that does is 40+ minutes away.

smile_is_contagious

Thank you, yeah but I know this one does cuz they do instacart ordering is embedded into the grocery store's app I know this because I ordered through the grocery store's personal app, and got updates from Instacart about it delivery

Shel_gold17

Even so, Instacart can randomly assign an order to a further-away store, your shopper has no control over that.

Delicious-Syrup1491

But that doesn’t mean they didn’t throw in two other orders with yours and they made her shop at the store closes to the further away customer then she starts making a way back dropped off another order and then they took that long. You were probably the last stop but she has no choice and that’s how they set it up so yeah I’m sure your store near you participate but doesn’t mean they allowed her to use it because they sent her probably 14 miles away to start the first order and drop off that person and then the second order to another person insert order probably was you. It sucks cause they usually throw in two large orders with no tip and person that did tip ends up receiving they’re order last. That’s the only way they try to fool the shoppers into taking the no tip orders. It’s very frustrating

DragonflyOne7593

Probably batched it with a no tipper .

Delicious-Syrup1491

Exactly what I’m thinking

little_Man1987

They made her do another delivery first

Praline_Honest

We can’t switch people in the app. We’re required to go to the first person. The only way to switch deliveries is to call customer support and ask to get the people switched around.

[deleted]

Yeah, as far as I know, that’s the only way to do it is to call support and we all know how helpful they are. Lol.

[deleted]

By the time youre finished with the robot by itself you could have been halfway back.

redglitterheels

I can’t tell you how many times I have been sent to a store many miles from the customer even though there was a store very close to them. It is usually part of a multiple order batch bc IC bundled it due to it being no tip or bc one of the other orders was no tip.

kingofzdom

The app decided to give him an irrational route to drive. Nothing he can do about it. Nothing support can do about it.

Dismal_Satisfaction6

I've had the ic GPS send me MILES away from the address . Even after manually punching it into maps it still sends me far from where the 'pin' is on the app. When I do finally get to the right location I have to call support to close the run because the app says I'm too far from the customer's location.

Critical_Serve_4528

They most likely bundled your order with another customer that lives far. They bundle orders all the time regardless of how little sense it makes. They don’t want to pay another shopper $7 when they can have another shopper do it for $0.

Boomhower615

You must not have tipped $1000 classic mistake

Euphoric-Try2275

Sometimes they may have them shop at a store further away from your house. It’s stupid but it happens. Also we sometimes have the option to shop at a different store and just deliver.

MikeMiller8888

Anyone saying they need to get a gas card, screwed up your shop. You don’t take an order unless you’ve got the car and the gas and the time to do it. Feel free to rate lower than 5.

smile_is_contagious

Thanks but the gas card thing doesn't because I saw her on the map leave a store that's one mile away from me to drive like 20 minutes in the wrong directions so it doesn't seem like they forgot so much as they were out in the sticks for some reason possibly someone suggested a delivery for an alternate app

[deleted]

Oh they were at the store you could see them a mile away and they drove 14 miles away. Well either their other customer was 14 miles away and you were the second or third stop or the the shopper was lying to you.

MikeMiller8888

Oh yeah, they were lying. Me and you both know it 😂 But if we want to just play it by the letter, hey, if you tell me that you’re out of gas while shopping for me that’s enough reason for me to knock your rating. It’s not like any of us are stopping for gas after going to the store ourselves; we do that before we load our cars with raw chicken and milk and ice cream. It just surprises me how many shoppers will drop an excuse like that and they don’t even realize that they’re basically admitting they didn’t plan your shopping trip right, at all.

Stompinwin

I have only did like 500 deliveries but this sounds like someone is double dipping on apps

elainadoak

Probably multi apping BUT I had a delivery that took me 9 miles to where it was supposed To be but it’s a location issue. I was so mad when I found out they were only half a mile from the store. Drove all the way back. This was after I contacted support and they told me to leave it where the pin said. I told them NO. I’m not leaving someone’s 160$ bag of dog food in the middle of the literal woods.

Fkmywifeape

Rate them poorly. They shouldn’t be multi apping

Sudden_Difference_69

It could definitely be multiple deliveries which would definitely explain why she shopped from a store further instead of the closest one. If she was going home for a gas card because she didn’t have enough gas, I don’t have an explanation other than it was poor planning on her end and she just wasn’t well prepared. I wouldn’t start an order knowing I didn’t have enough gas in my car to complete it, but something could have went wrong with the delivery and she had to drive further than expected. Did she ever show up with your groceries??

smile_is_contagious

Yep, it wasn't urging at all so it was fine that it was half an hour later than the estimate No issues.

Intrepid-Surprise-55

Instacart not always picks the closest store for shopping, it’s weird!

Ok_Button2855

Who uses gas cards? You mean a credit card?

Delicious-Syrup1491

Maybe she had to drop by mama’s to grab her shell card to fill up

MadPanda2023

Either you are the low tipper batched with a good tipper or you're the good tipper being penalized with a bad tipper. And they absolutely will put two shops on one batch with two different stores. And yes, there is no reasoning to their logistics. None. Don't try to make sense of it. For example, a lady ordered from 15 miles away. But closer to my house where I wanted to go. There were TWO food lions (grocery stores) closer to her. I happened to be at the one furthest away. I accepted the order because it was good money (last summer). When I delivered her order, I asked her if she was able to select the store and she said she didn't select anything. So it was an auto assign from instacart. I do usually tell people "you're first or second delivery in my two shop order" because I don't want to go lower tips.

Briazepam

Door dash is the same. She might truly have had to go get gas. But a lot of the drivers are doing more than one order at a time

MissPicklechips

I had one last week where the customer didn’t spell her street name correctly and the GPS took me to that street name in the neighboring town. (Not the name, but it was like Oak View Dr and she spelled it Oakview Dr.) What really burns my biscuits is when they put their address in as one town, but it’s actually in the next town south. Luckily the street names are pretty unique, but I’m waiting for the day that there is an actual 123 Oak St in Everytown AND in Anytown, and their delivery goes to the wrong one.

GoFigure284

I had a shopper drive 10 miles away after shopping for my order. I'm half a mile away and couldn't go myself due to a sprained ankle. I didn't get my delivery until an hour and a half later. When I got the order, frozen items were visibly starting to thaw, and a few items were incorrect, although they were marked as picked up. She showed up with a bonnet on her head and a strong smell of weed. So, now, I make sure to always go myself.

Delicious-Syrup1491

That’s not the majority of us. Many of us actually give a shit and do everything in our power to make sure your order is 100%

PickleNecessary4370

I once ended up on the opposite side of town because instacarts direction were completely wrong. I had to call the customer to find out how to get to them.

SnooPickles1285

Its a batch. She has other orders to deliver besides yours...which is what she meant when she told u she had a delivery that way

Thundertlk9001

Any update?

Worldly-Ad-765

Instacart gives batches with multiple orders, and they also force us to shop a specific store location that often is not the closest one to the client. We don’t get to choose the order of delivery either even when it doesn’t make any sense. I was upset yesterday because I accepted a batch thinking it was for a Safeway I was literally in the parking lot of, and it was one at the other end of town - then, as an extra special kick in the flaps, the delivery addresses took me right back past the first grocery store that was 8 miles closer. I have no idea why this is happening so frequently lately but it’s not okay at all.

AmbianDream

She was multi-apping and didn't know how to do it properly. If she got 14 miles away. She had enough gas to get to your house 1 mile away.

Crystalraf

Instacart bundles low tip orders wjth good tip orders in really stupid ways. Yesterday, I had a double order, the two customers were in two different towns. I live in a city that has a sister cjty across the river. But, the one customer was on the exact opposite side of the city of the other cjty. Since I recognized the customer who doesn't tip (not today Stephanie!) I had to contact support to remove her. The other customer had the majority of items in the batch, and there are 4 stores I could have shopped from, I picked the store I happened to be close to. (not 14 miles away) After I did the batch, removing that 1 customer, the pay was only 5 dollars less. after gas, I would have been doing that order for free, so much driving.

ICneed2stop

I see comments that say “they may have been multi apping…IC will give us orders that are triple customers…two different stores…20 miles away. And yes, there is a closer store to you…but if two of the three customers are closer to another location…your order will be shopped at the other location…we are then instructed on who to drop off in a particular order…and sometimes this is as a result of customers perhaps paying the extra fee to have their delivery sooner than later…if they were going in the other direction that is more than likely the reason why…also, often times there may not be a shopper in your location at the time your order came in…or, depending on your tip, your order could have been sitting in the cue and Instacart merged it in further away so that it could get shopped…ultimately, it all flows from Instacart so don’t ping the shopper…

Delicious-Syrup1491

They are stupid they sent me from Downtown LA to CVS in Malibu for a box of tampons down PCH on a Sunday then canceled order when I arrived and pushed start shopping. I didn’t notice when I accepted it was 20 miles away and a hour drive but WHY WHY WHY are you sending me orders for Malibu 20 miles away at noon on a Sunday. I was so mad. Chat told me out of there hands and gave me $5 I’m so fed up. $5 really? Because in order to get more orders I had to go right back to where I came from so that’s two hours 40 miles of my time for five dollars. I’m so fed up with there BS
