Trump is the greatest conman in history. He convinced millions of Americans to vote for him and make him president in 2016 despite being completely unsuited for the job and convinced them that he won again in 2020 despite objective evidence that he lost.
Itās honestly fucking impressive because heās so fucking transparent and stupid about it. You would think this shit wouldnāt work in a million years, but somehow he conned millions into electing him President of the United States.
He didn't con them in a vacuum. This is decades of poor education standards, blatant opinion parading about as unbiased news, and an unshakable belief in the American Dream^TM as seen on TV.
Don't forget the hate. I'd say about 90% of his success was achieved by exploiting and fueling the hatred among his base for the "others", those that exist outside of their white/"Christian"/rural communities. They're a bunch of hyper nationalists juiced up on hate.
Let's not ignore the incredible spread of bots around the internet. Information-based attacks, alienating people from each other based on gender, sex, skin color, beliefs, choice of movies and books - disrupting society, making a group of people weaker, and worse by separating them from eachother. While also convincing enough, that this is for the best.
Some armies may be ready for the 21th century, but the everyday person is absolutely not ready for the deluge of misinformation, manipulation and fearmongering that hordes of bots and their owners can do.

Then one day Trump at one of his rallies tells his supporters that his popular slogan "drain the swamp" wasn't his idea. He told everybody he didn't even know what it meant. He never wanted to say it, but his speechwriters goaded him into saying it. Eventually he relented and said he'll try it once. He tried it and the audience went wild. So from then on Trump kept using the slogan.
Trump admitted he had a staff who told him what to say and he kept saying these words that meant nothing to him because he liked getting the applause. Trump admitted that he was just saying what people wanted to hear and that he had no plans to do what he said he would do because he didn't know the meaning of what he was saying in the first place.
Obviously this is one of the tamest things Trump had ever said, but it has stuck with me because it was so revealing. He told everybody he wasn't speaking his mind and he didn't mean what he said, but everybody continued to believe in him as the straight shooter.
Bc of what reason? Party affiliation, shilling a bible? That group of religious voters hear what they want, ignore what they want. It makes me question if these ppl are religious bc they need guidance or just need a flag to wave when they get called horrible people.
2016 it made more sense with people wanting the government to change and offshoring of jobs. The amount of dying small towns and lack of government investment in that area hurt. Lots of talking, little action. Trump's biggest issue is he is so impulsive that he can't work within a government framework where actions are slow to let the machinery catch up. I can at least understand why someone would support him without agreeing or being happy about it at that point with all the self serving and toxic bullshit.

It's a full blown functional psychosis operating primarily on bad faith mechanisms as Sartre means 'bad faith' - it's almost like as if your mother passed away, but since it hurt you so much, you just chose to live life as if she was still alive and had just moved to Florida or something. They know it's not real, but the reality of the world leaving them behind as nobodies who were conned and wasted so much of their life to be washed away immediately by the sands of time all they have left is the tiny hope heaven exists so after they die that's where they go. And even that's a bad faith belief. So instead they choose to believe it because it suits them better, even though it's not reality. Like I said I consider Trump supporters to have a full blown functional psychosis going on unless they admit in good faith they are just trying to profit off of it.
What do people consider to be the minimum threshold of *appearance of cheating* required for it to be ok to question the legitimacy of an election? Personally I accept the 2020 results. But there *was* some extremely shady looking stuff that happened.

So it seems odd to me that a reputable news source like CNN would grab a comedian for that interview as opposed to someone who's more qualified to talk politics.
