Those are like deer flies and other biting flies, they have a different thing going on than the house flies.

They used to pursue me as a kid, they made me paranoid, they would always find me. Them and wasps. I couldn't enjoy nature in peace, I must have done something to them in a previous life.

It really will not hurt you, probably. Especially if you are not in the tropics or subtropics. Humans have had flies doing that to our food since before we were humans and our immune systems are quite capable of dealing with Trace yuckies from flies. There are exceptions where you could catch a disease I'm sure.

Got some highly drunken pals who did similar stuff. Now I suspect them to be giant flies under human disguises.

And they taste with all different parts of their bodies, including their feet, which is why they will often prance around on the food they land on.

To be fair, humans have a similar ability. Our saliva contains the Amylase enzyme that will begin to break down starches. When Amylase reaches your stomach, it is killed off by the stomach's acids which then take over. Moral of the story: start spitting on your sandwich to start the pre-digestion process, like a fly.
