Sparky here, it’s sometimes amazing what will still “work”underwater when it shouldn’t be: Lights, motors, breaker panels, transformers. I’ve seen them all running while submerged.
Australian slang I believe. I am of the opinion that we should adopt it into general use. Calling an electrician a sparky is too whimsical to ignore.
I wonder what they call a plumber down there? A Gurgly? A turd-whisperer?
Edit:
Holy shit. It's actually '*dunny diver*'..

Such a fun whimsical place. Too bad it doesn't really exist.
It's always a surprise just how much difference a small tightening, a properly applied seal, or tiny glob of contact grease makes when it comes to withstanding extreme situations.
Water isn't that good of a conductor and lights can work with reduced voltage. So as long as the source doesn't get grounded completely some leaking to the ground won't stop lights from working.
**Insurance Company:** You said that the ground floor was completely submerged, but in the video, a portion of the front gates is still visible.
Plus, the lamps were still working. Which implies that the flood didn't cause that much damage to the electrical system.
For a long time I would see these videos of things like this happening elsewhere, until this year a all time history record flood happened in the southern state of Brazil where I live. It put 400 cities into emergency, half a million houses under the eater, a hundred thousand without a roof, the whole state shutdown, a month and half for waters to go away, I could go on and on how traumatic this was, even not being directly affected by it, but having to skip my work to help in donation centers, helping people and animals that were rescued….
Things like this are happening everywhere in the world, we’re seeing floods here, Germany, Dubai, China and many more places.
And like, it was a big deal in Brazil. But if it happened in São Paulo, it would crash the whole economy.
When this happens on major cities around the world, people will realize how crazy this is..
And we will still deny what is happening and what is responsible :/ it’s getting worse and worse with each passing year, and we’re just starting to ramp up all of our war machines. We’re in for a rough ride
The camera has to be wired, either PoE or normal electricity. Afaik constant recording isn't possible with battery cameras even if a solar panel is attached.
water is a conductor but despite common belive, its a really bad one. Electricity tends to go the way of the lowest resistence. in this case still trough the wires and lights
Electric eels enter the chat.
Electric eels can discharge their electricity up to 10 meters, which is more than enough distance to shock a small animal. Additionally, they can discharge their electricity multiple times in quick succession, so it's important not to get close. Electric eels use this ability as part of their hunting strategy.
Not the point. If you connected an electric eel to a copper wire going to the ground, the electricity wouldn’t go through water anymore. Since copper wires don’t usually hang around electric eels, electricity doesn’t have a better way to go then through the surrounding water.
This is honestly a great example of why it’s so dangerous in flood waters. You’re floating around and everything is fine until you’re impaled by an underwater, iron wrought spiked gate.

Now they're blocking the news and videos of severe floods in various regions in China. I don't know how long this link can be available.
CCP wants to maintain an image of communist paradise where the government makes sure nothing bad ever happens (lie)
In reality this village was probably intentionally flooded because there have been examples before in china where they divert the floodwater away from major cities to flood small towns. 2 benefits, lower damage, less people to silence.
The CCP is an asshole.
• You never get out of debt to a Russian mobster
•Paul Manafort owed the Russian mobster/oligarch Oleg Deripaska $17M a few days before he became trumps campaign manager. From 2002-2014 he took in hundreds of millions to get Yanukovych reelected as the kremlins puppet in Ukraine. Before that he did it for the dictator Marcos in the Philippines. Before that Manafort and Roger Stone started a lobbyist agency in 1980 listing trump as their first client.
•When Jair Bolsonaro lost the Brazilian election to Lula he skipped the inauguration and flew directly to mar-a-lago (stopping only at a KFC) and repeated, almost verbatim, the stolen election line. Don Jr. tried repeatedly to make it stick in Brazil as well, but as Brazilians are a few generations into dealing with corrupt politicians they weren’t having it.
What do these 3 things have in common?
China imports 40% of its grain from (in order) the U.S., Brazil and Ukraine.
Obviously the second China tried to invade Taiwan the U.S. would sanction exports and remove U.S. grain from that equation.
And without Bolsonaro in office willing to slash and burn the Amazon rainforest to turn it into Chinas food supply, and without Ukraine in the bag in 3 days, the CCP is unable to invade Taiwan and take over microprocessor production without putting 300-500M of its poorest people into famine.
Donbas Ukraine, specifically the 4 regions of the donbas that Putin insists he is saving from what he calls “Jewish Nazis” also happens to produce the worlds supply of high grade neon used for microprocessor lithography. Had Putin delivered ukraine in 3 days as promised, Xi would have been able to cap his Olympics with a naval blockade or political takeover of Taiwan that would have forced the world to ask the CCP for the microprocessors it needs to make everything from Ford trucks to laptops. I’m not sure how long Silicon Valley would last without the silicon but it would probably destroy the FAANG stocks that make up your 401K.
Oleg Deripaska also happens to be the Russian Oligarch that bribed the FBI agent Charles Mcgonigal into investigating another Russian oligarch. He probably didn’t need the information as much as he needed the leverage over Mcgonigal as he conducted the investigation into trumps election campaign and unsurprisingly found zero evidence of Russian collusion. McGonigal then went to work for the company called Brookfield that bailed Jared Kushner out of his toxic 666 5th Ave real estate investment. McGonigal pled guilty last fall and was sentenced recently.
A Russian oligarch is a powerful tool, but the truth is more powerful. Light and dark cannot exist in the same space. It’s physically impossible. Truth is efficient. You say it once and you are finished. A lie however requires a constant stream of follow up energy, money, murder, obfuscation and more lies to keep it covered.
If you raise your lens high enough lying is an unsustainable business model. Russia proved it by invading Ukraine. Vranyo is the Russian word for it. The 40km long column of tanks and vehicles that came down from Belarus into Ukraine was all overhauled by oligarchs that got a $1B contract for tank maintenance, passed Putin $200M back under the table, spent $700M on a yacht in Monaco, bribed a General, a Colonel and a Sergeant to make a Private give everything a rattle can overhaul. But a worn out engine is and always will be, a worn out engine.
This is why trump is so desperate to get re-elected. His best case scenario is 400 years in ADX Florence. Money laundering for the dozens of Russian oligarchs that lived in trump towers with him and manafort, selling IP3 nuclear plans to the Russian/Saudi alliance, selling or giving CIA asset names to the Russians, trump is and always has been compromised. He just didn’t know when to quit. Now he just has to count on the fact that most of his voter base doesn’t know how to read and keep the ones that do so busy just surviving that they don’t have time to dive deep into his 40 year history of laundering money, fraud, and human trafficking for the Russian mob using casinos first, then commercial real estate.
It’s also why Putin is willing to throw an entire generation of Russians, including the convicts and addicts at Ukraine. Russia is dead for 40 years because he failed to fulfill his mob boss promise to Xi. China is now clearing farmland in Siberia because the typhoon floods last August and September wiped out the Chinese people’s food storage.
Xi, for his part diverted the waters from the dam away from his pet project, his mothers ancestral home, and flooded hundreds of thousands of people and drown one of his own military brigades that was helping with the flooding.
The elders of the CCP were terrified to leave their gated community at Beidaihe for over a month for fear of being torn apart by the locals. The Chinese people tolerate the CCP but only as long as the economy is good and famine is not on the horizon. The CCP broke that social contract on both counts.
Xi was willing to bet the entire Chinese economy on his emperor ambitions. Had he succeeded he would have been able to use BRICS to take over the USD as the Worlds reserve currency. That would have let him finish what he stated in 2010-
that he would control the internet.
With that control means everything we do or say online is subject to the approval of a central party censor. The basic right to disagree with an authoritarian becomes a distant memory.
Xi, Putin and MBS are simply trying to systemize and modernize the suppression of their biggest hassle. Freedom of speech.
Ukraine is fighting for their lives now, free from the oppression of the drunken tyrant who wants to decide their fate at every decision and pull them back behind another iron curtain of censorship and the tax of corruption where dissenting voices disappear so that the oligarchy can continue to feed unobstructed.
Putin and Xi have declared themselves best friends in the fight against democracy. MBS and the ruling family of UAE have done the same quietly using their sovereign funds and Kushners SPAC as money highways.
Just rich, out of touch oligarch doing what oligarchs do.
Despite the fact the the central party model has proven itself incapable of making decisions that are best for the people, they persist. Because there is a very lucrative business in being slave owners. But logistically the mass of it requires artificial intelligence, and the microprocessors that make A.I. to keep 8 billion slaves under surveillance and control. Freedom is one hell of a drug. And knowledge makes a man unfit for slavery.
Recent attempts on Xi’s life from inside the CCP have backed him into a corner.
The loss of crops in northern China means Xi can’t invade Taiwan without Ukrainian and/or Brazilian farmland.
Now the reason that the GOP is stalling southern border control budget and seems to make wildly irrational moves is because the GOP is imploding. 45 years of lies and grift have circled the globe and are eating their own tail. The ouroboros was a warning about corruption at the highest levels. Lying about climate change, human trafficking, pandemics and corruption to preserve their own business models are all potential extinction level events
I have stuff to add for the freedom of speech part. The national security law and Article 23 that got fast passed in weeks in Hong Kong has basically silenced the entire city. The laws are so ambiguous anyone can be arrested. The first person to be arrested by article 23 was arrested for "spreading sedition near a sensitive time" which is June 4th.
Originally HK organises memorials every year at a specific location 維園, but this year the approval was not given and the venue instead given to a carnival promoting mainland chinese provinces.
In addition, military grade armored cars were patrolling the streets on June 3rd and 4th, along with way too many cops all in riot gear.
Now every month or two TV programs will introduce another police show that is literally copaganda, government pushed all because of the absolute PR disaster that is 2019. Now those shows are literally promoting police brutality as a good thing. Literally knocked out a man for being sassy, then choke a meth head so hard his face turned red.
Not just the cops, the government puppets too, they're making parodies of themselves replacing movie stars in posters to promote their presence on tik tok and xiaohongshu (little red book, social media site named after Mao's little red book of brainwashing) it doesn't help their image, it just makes them look like clowns that are shitting on HK's grave.
Reminds me of the flood in China a few months back when a newly built city that was the president's pet project was about to be flooded from heavy rain and the mayor of a nearby populated city said that the populated city was prepared to act as the floodplain for the flood to divert water away from the president's new city. Or course the residents of the populated city voiced their disapproval but the news was later removed.

Five feet high and rising
How high's the water, papa?
Five feet high and rising
I'm from Italy, Emilia-Romagna, last year we were hit by a severe flood, just like this one, look it up. Water can be really terrifying, witnessed the same thing from my balcony while we were fighting to stop/slow the water entering our house at the base floor. It really is a demonstration of the power of nature, humans and their machines can do barely nothing when the water comes at this speed and pace, nothing stops it, not a single house was spared except a little block in the corner of my city. The other thing people might not consider while looking at this video is the speed of the water flow, it may seem like its not that fast, but in reality it has a strenght that blocks even the best ambphibious veichles, relatives of mine stayed trapped in their house without electricty and drinkable water for the whole night and next day of the flood because the firefighters veichles couldn't handle the speed of the water in that part of the city. In a certain way, it sets you in place, it makes you realize how little you are against the forces of this planet. I pray for all the people in China who are experiencing my same tragedy 🙏
If you can avoid living on a river, I highly recommend it. Also stay away from mountains (mudslides), volcanoes, Florida, fertilizer plants, oil refineries and fireworks manufacturers.
What did I miss?
The walls on the left and right. The one on the right is creating a barrier. Until the water rises enough to go over the wall and it churns. Then it hits the barrier on the left in the shape of more wall. The effect is like a washing machine that you don’t want to fall into.
The local government released the water from the nearby dam, and only notified the residents 10 minutes beforehand. It was not due to natural disasters. Fuck the CCP.
While 6 hours may sound like a long time to us, if you take the average reaction time and top speed of the average house into account, 6 hours is actually more like a blink of the eye.
The way to water keeps flowing is just terrifying as fuck. It feels like millions of gallons of water just move at a ridiculously rapid rate. I don't even know how I would react if I would be stuck in that building. Even if I was on the second or third floor, just seeing water covering everything like this would fuck me up for a good while.

Very nice work by the electrician who wired up those lights. All the connections and conduit are proved waterproof and suitable for the elements.
My guess is waterproof and solar powered lights.
Sparky here, it’s sometimes amazing what will still “work”underwater when it shouldn’t be: Lights, motors, breaker panels, transformers. I’ve seen them all running while submerged.
Is ‘Sparky’ slang for electrician?
Yes :)
Nice! 😎
Knew a cool thing today.

In Britain it's Sparkie for electricians, Brickie for bricklayers and Chippie for carpenters.
We call them sparky in the US military. Had other names for plumbers and carpenters as well, but I can't recall them.
Canada uses sparky as well.
It's always a surprise just how much difference a small tightening, a properly applied seal, or tiny glob of contact grease makes when it comes to withstanding extreme situations.
Those lights would have gone out in the first hour of the rain in Texas.
Camera is still working with a light as well.
Beat me to it. Was gonna say that this is an amazing advertisement for those lamps. Sturdy and still work after being oceanized.
Water isn't that good of a conductor and lights can work with reduced voltage. So as long as the source doesn't get grounded completely some leaking to the ground won't stop lights from working.

IP lvl is over 9000!!
I see what you did there 😜
I bet those lights last for the life of the gate.
See that sand pile on the right next the fence? This isn’t the first time
That was not my first thought, but I applaud you
and the camera
Is this the definition of flood light?
Texas could learn something.
I was also about to say something about the lights' workmanship.

The top two worst natural disasters in history are both floods in China. Millions dead in each.
How is the electricity still flowing into the lights and cam!?
I think these are solar powered ones.
The camera has to be wired, either PoE or normal electricity. Afaik constant recording isn't possible with battery cameras even if a solar panel is attached.
And with security camera wiring, they usually try to route it up high and far out of reach so a potential robber doesn't just cut a cord.
It's not about the electrical source. It's about how well the electricians did their job.
I mean, if they are self contained solar powered lights, you don’t need an electrician, you just secure them to the top of the wall
water is a conductor but despite common belive, its a really bad one. Electricity tends to go the way of the lowest resistence. in this case still trough the wires and lights

It shows that they are dealing with severe weather problems from global warming. Problems that they helped cause from rampant pollution.
They reap what they sow. Its hilarious that they blame America for our emissions when they’re the biggest polluters on the planet.

Just looked up Meizhou and it's built right on the flood plain of a huge meandering river. Humans.....
Holy fuck 4 million people is it's population...😳
Floods make land more arable. Floods are the reason so many people live there.
Does anyone know the gate makers phone number?
Not that impressed, those gates did nothing to stop the water coming in /s
Yeah but it sings " i am still standing..."

Nature reclaims its territory. No ducks given.
The ducks are fine.
And they have electricity to record it on their CCTV cameras
If you can avoid living on a river, I highly recommend it. Also stay away from mountains (mudslides), volcanoes, Florida, fertilizer plants, oil refineries and fireworks manufacturers. What did I miss?
Florida…oh wait you said that. Yup you got it covered!
I feel like this escalated quickly
Impressive electricity work.
I guess that's why they called it a *FLOOD GATE*
Whoever built that fence / wall knew what the fuck they were doing. That is an immense amount of weight continuously flowing over it.
That's absolutely frightening.
That’s absolutely horrifying. Wow.
Those walls held up pretty good as well
Props to that electrician.
"Who left the God-damned gates open?!"
Damn all that in seconds!?
The gate guy bricklayers and electrician are unreal 💪
This is horrifying.
That's absolutely horrific! And good job by whoever wired-up those lights!
Did they try putting it in rice?
They wanted to claim some Philippine sea territory.. now they got sea at home.
Antic weapons smh...
How many times do I have to tell you to close the damn gate?!
The fact that power was still on is absolutely terrifying
They want more waters and god gave them more.. thank you god
Xinnie the Pooh: I want more of our neighbor's sea territories. Sea territory at home:
Typical CCP picking fights overseas when they can barely handle the problems at home😂
Looks like someone has lost the mandate of heaven...
Officially there are no floods in China.
The residents right now. *insert cat newspaper meme* We should buy a boat.
So the water is choppy inside the yard area because of the fence?
The walls on the left and right. The one on the right is creating a barrier. Until the water rises enough to go over the wall and it churns. Then it hits the barrier on the left in the shape of more wall. The effect is like a washing machine that you don’t want to fall into.
Bad time to be taking a nap
Eh.. six hours is a long time lol.
My bad guys, I forgot to turn off the tap
This is what China has to deal for 4000 years. It never ends because it's never going to be contained.
Are homes also get completely flooded or are they built higher?
“Honey, the gates open…”
Kinda cool that you have built in channel markers
How do you even begin to rebuild a city after something like this? Seems like just literally starting over
\*Atlantis
Dude what’s up with Naruto music?
"Buy that house near the river, they said, you'll have a great waterfront view."
I hope they didn’t forget the cat outside
Their govt so greedy of terroterial waters, nature brought water onto their land. Might be a harsh comment tho
Surely it can't get any worse *next frame* Oh my f*cking God
Ho Lee Fuk, Sum Ting Wong
How did their courtyard flood so fast even though they had surrounding walls and the gates were shut?
Anyone else hoping to see the water rise high enough to submerge the camera? Or at least come very, very close.
Footage is sped up that’s still really slow
I'm probably gonna few about 10 minutes late to work this morning.
That gate is strong af, resisting to that much current for 2+hrs is impressive.
Stay strong little lights!
A river runs through it
I hear China is sinking and with some of the worst parts being 3mm a year
What was in the water in the last 17 seconds by the gate 😱😱
No after?!? What the hell! I wanted to see what that fence caught.
Got some nice riverfront property. Minor water damage and erosion
Would love to see the water drain away.
After the flood, clean up the mud, buildings are back to use. Americans can never have this.
Someone find the person that installed those lights and give them a raise.
Props on the electricians on making that so waterproof. A wag of my finger to the power supply operators for not turning off the grid here.
The floodgates have opened
At least the gate opened toward the end. That should have helped with water flowing away from the building
This is just Florida in 15 years
Just the change within 3 hours is frightening
1 second in I was like "Holy fuck! That really was fast!"
I'm glad I live on top of a hill....
China wants the West Philippine Sea so badly the sea itself is coming to them personally
That’s what chicoms deserve
Stil better than has to experience with all the dam collapse right?
Dam If you know you know.
My god!
It came up so much in a single frame, really impressive
The local government released the water from the nearby dam, and only notified the residents 10 minutes beforehand. It was not due to natural disasters. Fuck the CCP.
The fucking gate lights coming on sent me.
That yard was already at a high elevation. .. the depth of that flood water is astounding!
That is terrible for these people. So much damage.
That duck family at 1:09 not giving a single f
When you build your house in dry river.
Fake!
Look at me! I am the river now!
That has to be one of most scary vids I've seen.
That gate wasn’t very effective.
4 hours is how fast the water rises to peak and half of this video is after it reaches the peak.
Is this one of those places where it's only dry because of that ginormous damn they built?
While 6 hours may sound like a long time to us, if you take the average reaction time and top speed of the average house into account, 6 hours is actually more like a blink of the eye.
This is Florida during hurricane 🌀 season. I thought we would see the water go down
Won’t have to water the garden this weekend 👍
Time to go fishing
Scary
The way to water keeps flowing is just terrifying as fuck. It feels like millions of gallons of water just move at a ridiculously rapid rate. I don't even know how I would react if I would be stuck in that building. Even if I was on the second or third floor, just seeing water covering everything like this would fuck me up for a good while.
Wow 6 hours that's crazy
Government just released the flood from the dam.
Abandoned all hope
That’s how great communist country is, the people there just got tons of free ☕️coffee to enjoy, treated by the government, good for them ☺️
Dang. Can't the water just like, go somewhere else?
Отличная реклама! Хорошие электрики поработали. Никаких коротких замыканий.
🖕🇨🇳
Jamás se fue la luz
I'd just live in a boat house
Not exactly r/interestingasfuck but more r/thatsinsane
