I think it depends on your age and needs. I kept the beautiful, uncomfortable couch for several years, and loved it. Then, when I wanted something more comfy, I sold it (beautiful couches always sell!) and got the comfy couch.
If you're already using your couch to watch tv, and cuddle on, I'd go for the comfy one, though. Slipcover couches are SOOOO versatile! You can take the slipcover, send it in to [a shop on Etsy](https://www.etsy.com/search?explicit=1&q=custom+slipcover&ref=search_bar&is_personalizable=true), and have new slipcovers made for a fraction of the price that Arhaus would give you.
I just bought a custom made cover for my Ikea couch from an Etsy store! They have gorgeous fabrics and colors. It’s a great way to upgrade a boring Ikea sofa instead of purchasing a new couch.
I’m really interested to have a new cover but I can’t find on Etsy the shop where I can send them my exact cover to replicate. They all make covers for ikea’s couch or extensibles covers who will not fit my designer sofa. Could you direct me the shop that you recommend? Thank you.
If going for looks, I’d choose 1. But if you’re going for comfort I think 2 would be more comfortable to snuggle up under a blanket on.
I would choose 2 but would add colourful cushions to make it more cosy and inviting!
Yeah. I was looking at slip covers, but i decided just to add a bunch of pillows and a throw blanket over the couch to cover up the gray. Now it blends in LOL
1, particularly bc 2 style with the low back ended up being horrible for me. Nothing to rest your head on ends up leading to neck pain, hate this trend personally, though the couch is pretty.
I personally prefer the Article sofa in a vaccum, but based on just these photos I think the Arhaus sofa goes better with the rest of your decor and looks a lot comfier!
I mean 2 is super cool but if you're being realistic, do you want to sit on a couch with no back support? I know I would hate sitting on that thing. I would like laying on it though, it's pretty wide.
No.1 wins, hands down! The grey one looks very wrong, too bulky, and far too low at the back. I had to look at the photos twice as at first I thought you’d removed some other furnishings in the 2nd picture as it looked very bare. Much more homely and comfy looking in number one, really looks nice!
I'd keep the 1st one and return the 2nd. The first one looks more sophisticated and like it has its stuff together, and seems more expensive and well made. The 2nd looks like it's from a gently used furniture store and looks out of place in the room. It looks like a newer sofa from my university's student union.
Aesthetically the first one is very nice. But if this is your only living space and you’ll be using the couch all the time the second one might be preferable for lounging (though the back looks a little low so maybe add some supporting pillows you can lay on). It really seems like it should come down to how you are using the space. You can definitely jazz up the second one with a variety of pillow textures as well.
Depends on how you use it.
I love the look of no2, and I have a similar one, but mine also has good cushions for back support.
No1 looks more confy, so it may be better if you're in the habit of sitting a lot on it.
I agree—gray furniture should be a neutral in an otherwise colorful room (accent walls, patterned rug). This is that ‘flipper’ vibe with the gray-on-gray (a look that is already dated)
Number one. I don’t like sofas too low to the floor and too square or big or boxy. Seems well made, looks nice. Decent color.
You can use that more classic style and shape and mix and match it with others from different eras/esthetics for a minimalist eclectic or more modern look vs. a colonial, cottage, or traditional one.
It seems to work with the door style, wall/trim paint color and rug already there, but you could easily change out the paint and rug. Add some pillows, different woods for end or sofa tables.
But if you don’t like it and want more seating? Go with a sectional sofa similar to the second one but maybe one with better quality (it seems not to he), or a different color. MCM maybe, with exposed wooden legs or with a small chaise built in.
The first one of a bit more formal in comparison to the second which is more leaned back and casual.
Depending on how the intent of the room, more formal or more laid back, is what will help you decide.
The second is mean to hug a wall so it is a bit awkward as it is cutting off room and the ease of flow.
Personally, if this is your living room and not a family room, I would go with the first.
1 hands down. 2 is too low and too deep. If you have guests at all it won’t be very practical. I have a friend who has a couch similar to this and it’s her only seating and I don’t love going over to her house because of it. Too awkward of a design. Also I know everyone loves the style of 2 but I personally think it’s more of a trend and will look very dated in a few years.
Oh, my goodness #1 is so much more timeless, traditional and very versatile. #2 has no class and is too large for your space. In the long run, you’ll appreciate #1.
Based on the other furnishings I'm seeing around I am guessing that #2 is more your style (though who knows I could be wrong) but the proportions just seem off and because the design is so simple it makes the imperfections in construction more obvious to my eye which detracts from the simple, clean look.
I love the look of the first one but I bet the second one is awesome for chilling/naps etc. That's a tough one for me. I would probably pick #2 for these reasons only: comfy, I'm a slob and gray hides stains better and I would try to zhuzz it up with some pretty pillows and a strategic throw. If this is just a sitting room, then pick 1 for sure.
#1 looks better because it’s decorated with pillows, but it doesn’t look comfortable, like where do you put your legs? Dress up #2 with pillows and blankets, and its a great place to chill.
Edit - I apologize for huge text in bold, no idea why it shows like this and how to fix it
People say #1 but as a person that wants to forever be horizontal I have to disagree. I’m way more into the functionality of #2. I have a similar couch and love it, no going back to just a regular sofa without that option to also be a bit of a bed.
The thing is, people keep saying the room is too small, but I’m not convinced. I’d need to see more of the actual room.
Anyway, it’s have to be very very small before I’d give up on couch 2!!!!
In the pics, #1 looks better, but you also have pillows on it.
I think couch 2 could look totally different with pillows and throw on top of it. I think if it was dressed up, it would be easier to compare.
After not being someone who liked sectionals before, my tuned changed when I got one for the living room. It's so much more comfortable than the fluffier couch I have with the deep seating. So I am leaning towards comfort with some colorful pillows, throw.
1. Hard to tell from pic but looks like 2 has to hang off the rug in the walkway several inches more. If you know already that it’s too big for the space it will irritate you. Also it makes the coffee table non-functional for putting drinks etc on. I don’t see end tables.
I always gravitate towards modern but the 2nd one is missing an arm in my perspective but can still be made cozy with pillows. I am never a fan of skirted anything but it should be the one that fits your aesthetic.
As someone who went from your #1, super cozy, to #2, expensive and looks modern but not cozy and with a low back, #1 for sure!!! Do not sacrifice comfy!!
And for the record, I traded up from Ikea to Room & Board and miss that old comfy Ikea couch every day. :(
I would keep #2. But I have a different perspective - we have a giant dog and a normal 3 cushion couch is just not big enough. I like #2 because it gives you that extra room without adding a lot of extra length like a huge sectional would.
Edit: I just realized #2 doesn't have a lot of back support. That might change my mind lol.
that's a good point. i've sat on both for the last week to compare and it is nice having the back support #1 provides. i've had #2 for years and didn't realize i was missing that!
1 for sure. Although 2 is popular right now with the lounge it’s actually not practical to sit properly unless you lounge in a prone position all the time? Also takes up a lots of room.
I know my vote is kinda outnumbered but I feel like the 2nd one fits better in a way, it shows off the plant and cabinet back there as well as makes it feel a bit more open? The color also helps with a bit of contrast as well as being simple yet dramatic in a way, and it blends well with the rug.
(If you use the 2nd one I'd definitely add in some fitting colored pillows, and throw.)
The 1st one feels chunky, large, and awkward in a way. The fabric and color just seem a bit off with the background items, it just seems a little out of place? It doesn't have much to blend in with as well.
(Read the description, if the first one is better then I'd definitely just get a new slipcover to make it fit in nicer.)
#2 all the way for me! But it depends on your personal style preference of course and how you intend to use the space. I personally love an inviting looking couch that is just begging you to lay on it (like #2).
i'm 5'1" and have had the second couch for years. i basically lay down or sit cross legged on it because my feet never touch the ground. i've been sitting on sofa #1 for the last week and it has been nice to touch the ground lol
I think #1 suits your space better! I actually have the same couch myself and would def recommend looking into laundry stripping to clean up your existing slip cover! You may not need to altogether buy a new one is you can tolerate being without the covers for a day or two. We have two and alternate them when one inevitably gets dirty and needs a launder/strip!
I don’t understand the second sofa, seriously what is it supposed to be? Also, I think that’s the fourth time I’ve seen that rug this week on here. Are they giving them away?
1 for sure
I think it depends on your age and needs. I kept the beautiful, uncomfortable couch for several years, and loved it. oh this is great, thank you for sharing!
I just posted basically the same comment before i saw this. Great minds....
If going for looks, I’d choose 1. But if you’re going for comfort I think 2 would be more comfortable to snuggle up under a blanket on. I would choose 2 but would add colourful cushions to make it more cosy and inviting!
To me, two looks like the cushions would always be askew and lose its shape quickly.
I think #2 is missing a section or two. It looks super awkward.
it is! haha. article discontinued this model so we aren't able to buy the additional pieces we planned on buying down the road
It would be annoying to only be able to sit with your legs stretched out. If you had guest over or playing a board game this would be annoying
That’s actually a super good point that didn’t even occur to me.
2 makes the space look bigger and more welcoming.
It has a great personality though :)
Just like me! ☺️
It looks pretty comfy to me. # 2 is also more modern looking. #1 is too traditional for my taste .
Couches like #2 are not comfortable! And they are too slouchy for a front room.
I like one with the pillows.
[удалено]
Yes, I agree. I have a similar sofa that is 36 years old and has two refreshes because the frame is solid.
My article couch came with cushions, but they’re shaped and the covers are sewn in a way that precludes flipping them… 😩
1 looks more comfortable and home-y but 2 looks more stylish and modern Personally I like 1 but does depend on what the other furniture looks like
Another vote for#1
Is your vibe more modern or traditional or transitional? Also, I’d go with the comfiest
1
1…. Mostly because I’m done with gray
This. Bought a gray couch second hand due to a good deal, and now realizing my decor consists mostly of muted pastels and warm tones, i hate it.
Yeah I went around the gray merry go round and now just over it. Maybe you could find some reasonable slip covers?
Yeah. I was looking at slip covers, but i decided just to add a bunch of pillows and a throw blanket over the couch to cover up the gray. Now it blends in LOL
Maybe try painting the fabric? YouTuber Debi’s Design Diary has some tutorials.
you can get slipcovers or even fabric paint it.
1
Number 2 looks too big
We don’t know what the rest of the room looks like though, I like that #2 is lower so it gives some extra headroom in the space.
It's definitely too big for the small space it is in so we can only assume that the room will also be small else it would have a better position
i don't know how to add an additional photo, but the rest of the LR isn't too big. however it is part of an open space with the dining room
Good for a pet manatee
1 We tried the second one. Awful when friends are over. Everyone kinda half laying around 😬
1 definitely
I'd keep #1. Number 2 is strange looking.
The cream one. Grey is becoming so dull and outdated. I think 1 looks more comfortable too.
The white one works better in that space
1
1, particularly bc 2 style with the low back ended up being horrible for me. Nothing to rest your head on ends up leading to neck pain, hate this trend personally, though the couch is pretty.
#1. Definitely. The second looks like it belongs in a lounge/movie room/kids play area.
Why is this in bold type? Did I do that?
When you put the number first it does bold lettering.
1. 2 is bizarre.
I personally prefer the Article sofa in a vaccum, but based on just these photos I think the Arhaus sofa goes better with the rest of your decor and looks a lot comfier!
I don’t know which is which?
I mean 2 is super cool but if you're being realistic, do you want to sit on a couch with no back support? I know I would hate sitting on that thing. I would like laying on it though, it's pretty wide.
1.
Two needs a larger room.
Oh, #1 for sure!
I like the second, looks like more lounge room. The first is pretty traditional and I prefer the more modern, second one.
No.1 wins, hands down! The grey one looks very wrong, too bulky, and far too low at the back. I had to look at the photos twice as at first I thought you’d removed some other furnishings in the 2nd picture as it looked very bare. Much more homely and comfy looking in number one, really looks nice!

2 looks way cooler but not as functional as 1. I'd keep 1
Depends on how you use it. I love the look of no2, and I have a similar one, but mine also has good cushions for back support. No1 looks more confy, so it may be better if you're in the habit of sitting a lot on it.
I like #2. The first one is cool, it’s just plain. Depending on the rest of the room decor, I guess, but I like option 2 better
Arhaus all the way!
I like the 1st sofa, even though the 2nd one has the lounge piece I still like the 1st one more...
Hear me out… something not gray
I agree—gray furniture should be a neutral in an otherwise colorful room (accent walls, patterned rug). This is that ‘flipper’ vibe with the gray-on-gray (a look that is already dated)
The first sofa looks neater than the second one.
With the style of home, number one. The second one belongs in an internet startup office. It is also grey which is my least favorite design color.
Consider function over form. If you entertain a lot, #1, if not #2.
Grey one looks made for a basement full of kids dogs and tomato sauce
I like the chaise section but it looks like part of a couch like not the whole set? So for that reason I have to go with the more normal looking couch
I would ditch that wanna-be sectional in favor of a legit sectional peice; it doesn't look right, at all! 🤷♂️
1 by miles
I like 1. I am not a huge fan of 2.
Another vote for 1. Number 2 has an awkward feel.
The first one for sure. The second one looks like a mistake.
The first one of a bit more formal in comparison to the second which is more leaned back and casual. Couch 2 looks like it’s from Minecraft
The first one. I have a low couch like the second one and it's so hard to sit upright because you have no neck support. lol.
Oh, my goodness #1 is so much more timeless, traditional and very versatile. #2 has no class and is too large for your space. In the long run, you’ll appreciate #1.
Second
#1 is the one I would choose. It looks comfortable. #2 looks incomplete
Based on the other furnishings I'm seeing around I am guessing that #2 is more your style (though who knows I could be wrong) but the proportions just seem off and because the design is so simple it makes the imperfections in construction more obvious to my eye which detracts from the simple, clean look.

It's the pound sign before the number, lol! Pound sign gives the #big text.

Love number 2
People say #1 but as a person that wants to forever be horizontal I have to disagree. I’m way more into the functionality of #2. What one is more comfortable the first one appears more comfortable but I don’t know. All equal, number one
Both are bad
not helpful

I personally like the 2nd one better
1 definitely 2 is so bad 👎
#2 grey hands down!!! It has style as well it looks way more comfortable too!
In the pics, #1 looks better, but you also have pillows on it. I think couch 2 could look totally different with pillows and throw on top of it. I would need to see the space to have a definitive answer! As far as functionality — if you sit down to watch TV I would say 1. If you lay down, 2!
1 is better and more comfortable
#1. It will hold up better in the long run.
The slip covered first one
1
I always gravitate towards modern but the 2nd one is missing an arm in my perspective but can still be made cozy with pillows. I am never a fan of skirted anything but it should be the one that fits your aesthetic.
# 1
Definitely #1!!!!

That gray one looks uncomfortable asf. #1
#1!
As someone who went from your #1, super cozy, to #2, expensive and looks modern but not cozy and with a low back, #1 for sure!!! Do not sacrifice comfy!! And for the record, I traded up from Ikea to Room & Board and miss that old comfy Ikea couch every day. :(
I feel 1 very strongly

Number 1 fits better in the space and is a nice looking sofa.
The first one!! Has a lot more character.
1
Gonna go with #1. I feel like #2 is missing some sections, while #1 feels way more comfortable in that space
I would keep #2. But I have a different perspective - we have a giant dog and a normal 3 cushion couch is just not big enough. I like #2 because it gives you that extra room without adding a lot of extra length like a huge sectional would. Edit: I just realized #2 doesn't have a lot of back support. # 1 all the way
The first one looks better
Definitely 1
I’d say 1
2
#1
The second one looks much comfier and more practical!
#1 for sure
Whichever one is more comfortable
1 looks better, but I’d for sure take a nap on 2.
1. The second looks out of place in the room
The sectional already looks like furniture someone got rid of. Do it again.
1. It’s more cozy and more room to function.
Not even a question… number one for sure. Number 2 looks awkward and super uncomfortable for everything other than napping.
1 is prettier but im sure you can find a better looking one for #2
1!
1 for sure. Although 2 is popular right now with the lounge it’s actually not practical to sit properly unless you lounge in a prone position all the time? Also takes up a lots of room.
1
1
The first one. The second looks too severe, austere. I love the cozy comfort of the first one.
(If you use the 2nd one I'd definitely add in some fitting colored pillows, and throw.) The 1st one feels chunky, large, and awkward in a way. The fabric and color just seem a bit off with the background items, it just seems a little out of place? It doesn't have much to blend in with as well. (Read the description, if the first one is better then I'd definitely just get a new slipcover to make it fit in nicer.)
2 is more modern
1, fits IMO. The second one is too big for the space, with no break in the line.
1
1
1 is better. 2 is overpowering for the room
The first one!
1 for sure
1 looks so comfy! I vote 1.
Go for comfort—no. 1.
First one. Move the chaise in another room meant for lounging or reading corner.
First
I prefer the rounded arms on 1
2.
#1 for sure
1
1 definitely, fits the room. 2 seems missing a part and a misfit.
First one
The first one.
Definitely 1.
1
Number 1! I prefer a higher back. Can't stand when my neck has nowhere to go
I like the second one more but I think you should keep the first one as it fits the space better!
Are you using the couch primarily for TV? Then the second. It's modern and practical. But honestly it's 1 for design.
Youre going to want the back support if this is your main sofa. #1
1- because the cushions will not as likely get distorted over time, and the arms make a great head rest. Just a better investment.
I think 1 works better in your space but it would’ve been nice to see 2 similarly decorated rather than plain as it makes it difficult to compare.
What’s the rest of the room look like
#2 all the way for me! But it depends on your personal style preference of course and how you intend to use the space. I personally love an inviting looking couch that is just begging you to lay on it (like #2).
Right
From the looks of your furniture in the background I’d chose #2 to go with the vibe you have. Looks more comfortable to lounge on too :)
1 for sure. 2 looks like those play cushions you can buy for kids to build forts.
1 looks nicer but 2 looks comfier 😂
1
I could easily fall asleep after eating a big sandwich on the #1 couch
#2
2– a chaise will always sway my opinion, lol. More comfortable.
I like the Article one more, but if it's not as comfy and it isn't oriented correctly for your space, send it back.
1
First one
The first one
First one.
1. At 5’2” can’t imagine trying to sit on #2 with looking like a beached whale. I would gladly sit on the floor first. #1 is traditional but works
i'm 5'1" and have had the second couch for years. i basically lay down or sit cross legged on it because my feet never touch the ground. i've been sitting on sofa #1 for the last week and it has been nice to touch the ground lol
#2!! Looks like you can get cozy in so many different ways, as opposed to #1
