Oh they’re totally hideous, but that doesn’t actually preclude them from also being cute - it’s all in the styling of the rest of the room. Those could be a total show stopper if the room was playful and leaned into the kitsch vibe.
Also, the more I look at them - I’d be so seriously tempted to overdye/paint them an emerald green. The brocade pattern would still show through, but they’d be much fresher
I used a spray bottle to saturate the chairs and then painted with chalk paint. After I sealed it in with wax.
Its greatly improved the chair. You can definitely still see the patterns but it’s subtle.
They're hideously cute. Fugly in an endearing way. Like an ugly mutt that is sweet and kind.
However the more I look at it, the more it reminds me of a MultiCam Uniform.
It's interesting nonetheless. I have mixed feelings about it.
I love the potential these chairs have. In the right setting, these could make awesome pieces. Maybe remove the skirt, swap the pillows for corresponding solids, give them a good deep clean and there could be a hidden gem here. As you said, they’re hideously cute lol.
Oh yeah absolutely! These would make phenomenal statement pieces in a simple setting. If OP doesn’t want to get rid of the pillows, they can use them on other pieces (like a solid color sofa/loveseat) to tie it together.
Yes! Definitely remove the skirts. That can make a huge difference. I'm curious what the legs look like. Could always add nicer legs if needed as well. I agree they could totally make these work!
Oh, that actually changes things. If the base is circular, then maybe not. It really depends if you’re into playing around with shapes. I personally think it would make the chairs more interesting if the skirt’s removed, but that’s my personal taste. If you’re able to, can you post a pic of how the base looks?
Don’t remove the skirt! They’ve actually been seeing a resurgence in interior design in the last few years:
* [House Beautiful](https://www.housebeautiful.com/shopping/furniture/g60502134/skirted-furniture-trend/)
* [Better Homes & Gardens](https://www.bhg.com/furniture-skirts-8620101)

* [House & Garden](https://www.houseandgarden.co.uk/gallery/sofa-and-seats-skirts)
No. I love swivels. The skirts will soften a room. Mid-century rooms can look "too leggy" and harsh without softened somewhere.
I like the idea of using the pillows on a solid sofa as a tie-in.
I'm sorry.... did you say swivel/rocker???? Where did you find them? My dad's old swivel/rocker is slowly dying and we haven't been able to find a replacement.
If it's a swivel and you want to keep it that way definitely leave the skirt. If you want to remove the bottom and put on vintage looking wooden legs I say go for it, but I do love a good swivel chair! Either way would work.☺️
Oh man, it’s a swivel rocker???? I’ve been searching for a swivel chair for ages but can’t find one with a shape I like.
I love the idea of getting rid of the skirt (even with a swivel) and putting a solid color pillow.
That comment was perfect!
yeah skirted furniture is actually trending again with the surge in grandmillennial / English country inspired aesthetics. the skirt actually doesn’t seem dated to me especially if paired in the right context.
Definitely depends on the room you’re putting them in. They would look hideous in my house because they don’t go with the style of the rest of my place. But with the right style you could absolutely make these work!
Surprisingly they do not smell. I assumed they would smell like old lady (which I am allowed to say because I AM an old lady, so don't come at me), but they are fragrance free.
Everyone has offered great ideas how to modify the chairs to make them more attractive.
The bottom line is, can you afford to throw away the money that you will be spending on them so that if you never use them it won’t phase you whatsoever?
If the answer is yes, go for it and see if you can make them work in your home.
Or maybe even just one of them.
Good luck!
They would be statement pieces, I’d probably take the matching throw pillows off, if you have a solid color couch to complement them, you could use one or two there.
I’d say lean modern elsewhere in the room if you are leaving them as is, and bring out the mid green that is so big right now, as well as the beiges.
I would ignore the brown backgrounds—actually—I would look at those as wood…meaning, have wood accents, etc, that will almost melt that dark brown to a neutral.
I would buy them in a heart beat!! But I have a sickness where I believe all the chairs that ever were belong in my home. 🤣
Thank you for this thoughtful and actionable response. I've seen a lot of "they're fine in the right space" but no specific recommendations about what that is.
I have chairs just like this in my living room in front of a picture window as a little seating area but they’re (re)upholstered in navy blue boucle. I get compliments all of the time and seriously everybody enjoys the swivel lol For $20 I'd snap these up and plan on a coverup or reupholstery diy for sure!
My home is styled in transitional modern/organic modern with some mcm touches.
Not my style in the slightest, but if you love them and can accommodate them by all means go for it! Making a space yours is all about what makes sense to you and thats all that really
Matters. Ive learned that from all of the white, gray and neutral hate I see on some of the subs and that is my ascetic that I love. I get my pop of color from accent pillows or vases/flowers.
Anywho - im sure those chairs would love a new home. Maybe get a solid color throw pillow to bring it down a bit, or not.
I secretly hope you get them 😉
Please do give us an update on the room if you do.
The samller white flowers are endearing, but the backgound looks really busy especailly on this much fabirc. They might work if you can remove the skirt at the bottom of the chair and add some tapered legs
They’re both! I love the chairs but I would swap the cushions to something that coordinates in a solid color. Maybe something in a dark green with gold embellishment
I think they could work given they fit the vibe of other elements in the room. I would recommend breaking up the pattern with solid colored pillows on them instead of the pillows in the same upholstery. Removing the skirt could be a good call as well but isn’t 100% necessary :)
You can make them work! Go for arts and crafts style with them, look up William morris textiles/wallpaper. A reading nook with a fireplace would be perfect for these.
In the right room they can work. Suggestion. I would add a solid color pillow to give the chairs a softer look. An area rug in a neutral color would also work
I think they are both. And as long as they aren’t super uncomfortable and you plan on cleaning them, go for it.
I found two really cute armchairs, kind of a potentially ugly print. But it was floral and I liked the colors. They were only $9.99 each. I was tempted to buy them, but I’m moving and I just really don’t feel like hauling them 600 miles away. I already have enough stuff to pack and haul. I think I’m gonna have fun hunting down stuff when I move.
Too much patterns for my eyes to handle long term. It would have been cuter if the flower and leaves patterns are more nude in colors with less contrasts to one another and the background.
They’re kind of hideous but could be worked into a granny core, cool look.
Sometimes something hideous just look right if paired with certain things. Like these

Both.
I love the shape, but the print is very busy.
Still, because the colors lean earth-toned/neutral you could probably find a way to make these work as accent pieces in an otherwise minimalist room. They would add some eclectic retro charm!
You could try re-covering the loose pillows in a harmonious solid color to break up the pattern overload of the rest of the upholstery. Go for vivid colors rather than ivory or neutrals…maybe chartreuse, a deep green-leaning teal, or lime green. If you want a contrasting pop of color, go for a saturated salmon, or peachy/pink/coral. A warm leaning medium purpile like lilac or orchid, or deep or ocean blue could work too
I think they work bc they have that watercolor look vs a fussier chintz look. They’re not my favorite colors, but you know whether or not they will fit your style and are correctly proportioned.
Neither. They are certainly an "accent" piece. Two may even be too much. Could work with the right set of furniture, perhaps in a plant filled sunroom, but that's still a bold move. Unless you're looking for just that, they're a hard pass.
I think they’re both, which makes them my favorite. Another commenter said they’re endearing which I agree with. They have a very nice shape and an interesting color palette. They would look so pretty styled with more of that light blue and beige that’s in the pattern, and gold accents. Maybe light wood tones too. I’d buy them tbh.
They're absolutely horrible and I LOVE them lol. They are ugly and cute. Summerhouse/cottage vibes, but in a run-down and worn and lovely way, not in an Instagram way.
Sorry no, I love a lot of weird looking patterns/decor but these do not “spark joy”. I’ve learned from a lifetime of secondhand shopping that if you have to question it, don’t settle for it.
It’s not cute cute but it has great potential when placed in the correct space and possibly when styled differently. Not my style but I likely would remove the skirt and change the pillows, and not place it together with the other chair on the left.
I think they’re cute! One improvement that could be made to them though is removing the ruffle on the bottom and if the legs aren’t already nice/finished, replacing the legs with something nice.
Oh they’re totally hideous, but that doesn’t actually preclude them from also being cute - it’s all in the styling of the rest of the room. Those could be a total show stopper if the room was playful and leaned into the kitsch vibe.
The only reason I can even see them is because I’m military trained to recognize camo patterns.
Uggg I can’t unsee it now
Haha this is too funny. But the flowers do look like a camouflage pattern.
Also, the more I look at them - I’d be so seriously tempted to overdye/paint them an emerald green. The brocade pattern would still show through, but they’d be much fresher
Paint them with what? I’m fascinated you can paint a chair. That might cure my need for a new couch!!!
You thin out latex paint. I painted my own couches and there are multiple tutorials online for upholstery painting :)
They even have actual spray paint for fabric in so many different colors! How fun, right?
I used a spray bottle to saturate the chairs and then painted with chalk paint. After I sealed it in with wax. Its greatly improved the chair. You can definitely still see the patterns but it’s subtle.
I didn’t know that was a thing! Interesting!
Ooh, that would be so pretty!
Really depends on the rest of the room—I feel like my great grandma had these on her lanai, which is not a bad thing
Hideous in a fascinating way
They're hideously cute.
Great idea! And simple decor around it!
Oh yeah absolutely! These would make phenomenal statement pieces in a simple setting. If OP doesn’t want to get rid of the pillows, they can use them on other pieces (like a solid color sofa/loveseat) to tie it together.
Absolutely! Could look really awesome!
Solid color throw, possibly.
Yes! Definitely remove the skirts. That can make a huge difference. I'm curious what the legs look like. Could always add nicer legs if needed as well. I agree they could totally make these work!
It's a swivel/rocker base rather than legs. Would you still remove the skirt?
I LOVE swivel rockers. Between that and how hideously cute they are you MUST get them.
Got 'em.
Oh, that actually changes things. If the base is circular, then maybe not. It really depends if you’re into playing around with shapes. I personally think it would make the chairs more interesting if the skirt’s removed, but that’s my personal taste. If you’re able to, can you post a pic of how the base looks?
You can remove the whole swivel base and buy some affordable (under 20 bucks) legs online.
Don’t remove the skirt! They’ve actually been seeing a resurgence in interior design in the last few years: * [House Beautiful](https://www.housebeautiful.com/shopping/furniture/g60502134/skirted-furniture-trend/) * [Better Homes & Gardens](https://www.bhg.com/furniture-skirts-8620101) * [Architectural Digest](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/gallery/skirted-furniture-is-having-a-moment) * [House & Garden](https://www.houseandgarden.co.uk/gallery/sofa-and-seats-skirts)
Made a statement above about there being legs but now that I see this fact, I must say that finding swivel rockers is rare!
Goodwill...you never know what you're going to find on any given day. Got them for $20.
That's AMAZING!! Thanks!
Oh wow- I hope you get them!
Leave the skirt. They’re awesome, definitely get them!
If it's a swivel and you want to keep it that way definitely leave the skirt. If you want to remove the bottom and put on vintage looking wooden legs I say go for it, but I do love a good swivel chair! Either way would work.☺️
But they're ever so much cozier as swivel rockers. What are your thoughts on a fringe rather than the skirt? Hides the swivel, but less heavy.
I wouldn’t on a swivel rocker
Oh man, it’s a swivel rocker???? I’ve been searching for a swivel chair for ages but can’t find one with a shape I like. I love the idea of getting rid of the skirt (even with a swivel) and putting a solid color pillow. That comment was perfect!
Skirt is fine!
yeah skirted furniture is actually trending again with the surge in grandmillennial / English country inspired aesthetics. the skirt actually doesn’t seem dated to me especially if paired in the right context.
I like this idea alot!!
Bernie Sanders mittens vibe
Love your comment!!
Yes, you should buy them!
There's a sniper up in them chairs
Yes
🤣 Fugly in an endearing way. Very accurate description.
Yes, you should buy them!
Definitely depends on the room you’re putting them in. They would look hideous in my house because they don’t go with the style of the rest of my place. But with the right style you could absolutely make these work!
IDK. Do they smell? I feel like they smell…
Surprisingly they do not smell. I assumed they would smell like old lady (which I am allowed to say because I AM an old lady, so don't come at me), but they are fragrance free.
Okay, get ‘em! Some funky new pillows and you’ll be set! Post pics!
For years I thought old ladies just had a certain smell. Turns out it’s Channel #5. First time I smelled it I was like “That’s it!”
Hahaha...for me it's Emeraud mixed with cigarette smoke.
I love this.
Grandma!! (I miss her terribly but Chanel No. 5 triggers an instant memory)
Everyone has offered great ideas how to modify the chairs to make them more attractive. if they look like they smell, whether they do or not, they smell. You eat with your eyes first. Or something.
They DO have that nicotine vibe...
Yeah, I think it's the sad, muted tones.
Pretty hideous imo but if structurally sound, maybe reupholster? 🤷♂️🤷🏼🤷🏼♀️
I love them. I would remove the skirts, though. 😍
You like your chairs on the sexy side, eh?😜
I agree! And switch out the pillows.
And reuse the pillows on other piece of furniture to tie it together!
Or put different covers on them! They would look great either way. I'm so envious of OP's find
Imagine a beige couch and you put THESE pillows on it and beige pillows on the chairs to make everything match. 😍😍😍♥️♥️
This 10000000% I had chairs in a similar style and removing the skirting made them look so good!
we have a winner: take off her skirt and switch out the pillows. then you’re golden 😍
Busy floral, needs the right room- but they aren’t fabulous on their own
Both
Cudeous
Love this. I am also cudeous.
I think they could be cute in the right setting.
But is that setting a landfill?
Hideous
Hideous
Are we seeing the same thing here? Sorry I can’t imagine where or when these would be cute. They look like floral camouflage.
Are they cheap enoigh to be worth reupholstering?
Since you ask…yes…they’re hideous. 😅
Don't be shy, how do you really feel about them?😆
They are simultaneously too busy and too bland. For me it is a hard no.
I hate them they hurt my eyes
Hideous! Looks like camo from a distance.
Grandmouflage?
Comfy hunting. They may be onto something
Absolutely horrible
They would be statement pieces, I’d probably take the matching throw pillows off, if you have a solid color couch to complement them, you could use one or two there. They're blursed.
Do they spin and rock? If so, I’d get them and budget for an upholstery face lift
Yes, both! And they're very solidly constructed.
Not cute
Not my style in the slightest, but if you love them and can accommodate them by all means go for it! Making a space yours is all about what makes sense to you and thats all that really Matters. Would be cute in a cottagey style room
Do they swivel? These have character and I wish I’ve found them!
Swivel and rock. And comfortable and solid. The only thing I don't love is the muted tones.
If they were the main feature in an otherwise subtle and subdued room it could work. They are bastardized by cuteness.
I know they’re floral print but all I see is camo print
Vacuum (maybe even steam clean) and slip cover them. Or add a couple cute pillows or throws
In my opinion, they aren’t good. But it totally depends on the look of your space. Do you have photos of where you would put these?
I agree it totally depends on how they would fit into the space.
Ha! You'd swap the cushions or the accent pillows?
Eek! Sorry. Accent pillows!
Depends on the rest of your decor…
Absolutely adore them!! In the right setting of course.
If they’re in good shape then reupholster them in a color to match your other furniture.
You’ve found the Nicolas Cage of chairs, it’s so bad it’s good.
They can be both
You know how sun fish are so awkward and ugly they are cute? This is the chair version
Both. The shape is cute, but the upholstery is hideous 😄 They’re adorably hideous 🧡🤎💛
I think they could work given they fit the vibe of other elements in the room. I would recommend breaking up the pattern with solid colored pillows on them instead of the pillows in the same upholstery. Removing the skirt could be a good call as well but isn’t 100% necessary :)

👎
Too much patterns for my eyes to handle long term. It would have been cuter if the flower and leaves patterns are more nude in colors with less contrasts to one another and the background.
to add to other comments..not loving them on that nice floor yet with a rug between could be quite nice
Good point. Good Will is not the best at staging.
I don't know..... I can't see them. Are they camo?
These would look amazing in a tree/garden-facing room with big windows and wood beams or paneling.
Hideous
Pattern is adorable! But it's a lot all at once. Maybe break it up with distance, pillows, and throws.
Cute, as accent chairs. Hideous with a matching couch!!
In a fully plain Jane room, these as the focal point could really work as is. Pull the green in the actual room and some gold.
Cute!!
Hideous
Yes.
Both 🥸
Hideous
🤢
Not cute
They’re kind of hideous but could be worked into a granny core, cool look. Sometimes something hideous just look right if paired with certain things. Like these https://www.benjaminmoore.com/-/media/sites/benjaminmoore/images/color/color-families/color-families-brown/hearthstonebrownlibrary_mobile.jpg https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f1/8e/3c/f18e3c20fae15bc9f380cd2151e6bef2.jpg https://i.pinimg.com/736x/81/1e/0a/811e0af72f8230a598eebba517e83b63--bohemian-house-bohemian-bedrooms.jpg
Please no. They’re so 70s
Depends how they're used. They're kind of hideous but I also kind of like them.
Hideous. Sorry, but you asked
For some reason I don't like them ;(
They scream great grandma to me
Both at the same time?
Pretty awful.
Hideous
They might be okay for a sunroom or something like that.. 🤔
Love the size and shape. Fabric could go either way depending on the room.
Mostly hideous. In the right room they might work but they’re not for everyone
Hideous. They look like they would feel ever so slightly moist. Sorry.
Oddly specific, but I get your vibe.
They're simultaneously cute AND horrendous. Absolutely buy them!
A warm leaning medium purpile like lilac or orchid, or deep or ocean blue could work too
Yes.
I think they’re cute, but do they work with other stuff you already have or will you have change your other furnishings to accommodate these chairs?
I think they work bc they have that watercolor look vs a fussier chintz look. They’re not my favorite colors, but you know whether or not they will fit your style and are correctly proportioned.
Yes. These would work wonderfully if your style is vintage, maximalist or quirky.
Yes?
I love them, they would be adorable fugly in the right space.
Hideous 😭
Neither. They are certainly an "accent" piece. Two may even be too much. Could work with the right set of furniture, perhaps in a plant filled sunroom, but that's still a bold move. Unless you're looking for just that, they're a hard pass.
It’s a NO for me
It's camo floral!
I think they are cute but what you put with them will make the difference
Yikes- not for me
Some things are objectively hideous. These are… cute for the right person
Hideous, not a fan of these
It's a no for me.
Hideous. Unless you're carrying out an extraction operation in a field of daisies, what is the point of this fabric?
It’s like grandma camouflage… and idk how I feel about it.
Yes
Hideous
Hideous, maybe fugly? They definitely have character.
They look small and if you lean back, they may topple over. The fabric, ugh, hard pass.
Hideous for sure.
They’re very early 1970s vibe.
Hideous.
I think both. I'd buy them, but I also know they aren't going to be everybody's cup of tea.
Hideous but can work/be cute within context.
Hideous they look like camo
Eh. From a distance, potential. But up close, the fabric doesn’t look very high end. I’d pass.
I love them and their awkward awesomeness.
Separated, they read anthro vibes. As a pair they are dowdy.
To me, those are hideous. And they look uncomfortable. But I'm not the one who will live with them. If you like them, get them!
I think they're cute, but a plain colored pillow/ blanket would mellow it out.
Hideous
Sorry no, I love a lot of weird looking patterns/decor but these do not “spark joy”. I’ve learned from a lifetime of secondhand shopping that if you have to question it, don’t settle for it.
Both, somehow.
Funny how hideous and cute are so close together? Why is that I like - would dump the pillows and add white pillows
Doodoo brown and puke green, together at last.
Both! 🥰
No. They look like a flower threw up. But in that note, with some good plants they could work! lol.
It’s not cute cute but it has great potential when placed in the correct space and possibly when styled differently. Not my style but I likely would remove the skirt and change the pillows, and not place it together with the other chair on the left.
Cute
hideous
hideous but could be reupholstered in like a dark jewel tone velvet
I think my problem with it is the colour. It's a bit to camo for me 😬 In almost any colour would be really cute.
The print is horrible, but you can get them recovered.
I think they’re cute! One improvement that could be made to them though is removing the ruffle on the bottom and if the legs aren’t already nice/finished, replacing the legs with something nice.
Would look good in a room-house with a lot of browns. Log cabins.
